Guest Reviews
- Michael (6/5): NR Headphones Advised - This is a fantastic location for travelers. There is only one drawback... at night, you might have difficulty sleeping with the noise from the neighboring nightclubs. Plan accordingly and enjoy the rest of the great benefits this place has to offer.
- jason (6/5): - For the price point of staying in downtown Vancouver, you're really just getting a bed to sleep in.
The staff are friendly and accommodating. The shared bathrooms are small. My mattress was so worn that the middle had a massive dent in it, and the building is always loud; bring earplugs with you! If you're looking for a very convenient, central location and a bed to sleep in for the cheap, this is the place.
- Dave (8/5): - My private room was adequate. shared bathroom and kitchen was clean and tidy. Location is superb as its right down town close to the waterfront, train station, skytrain, cruise ship terminal etc. I would stay again
- Eric (8/5): - Room was clean. Great shower rooms. Good location
- Owen (10/5): - Great location
- David (10/5): - Location was my main purpose for selecting this spot but i was very happy with my room I will be staying here again I’m sure
- Neda (2/5): - Mouse in my room , this so disgusting. I stay here for more 20 day , no change sheets, no mop & cleaning my room.
- Abdulaziz gh a kh a (4/5): - Bedroom fans have so much gunk in them they start getting burned off due to the wiring and makes place smell like it’s burning.
- Luciana (10/5): - Kitchen, family friendly! Near the most of attractions.
- Marisol (2/5): - The alley stinks and there were a mouse at the room. The personal is educated and collaborative.
- Anne (2/5): - This property is adjacent to a very noisy bar. The website is misleading because it suggests you can get a free SIM card, which is not true. Suggests that you can have one person per room, which is not true. I felt completely misled by the information on Expedia
- John (8/5): - bed was comfortable, room was a fine temperature during my visit. Wifi was a good speed too
- Antony (10/5): Clean, comfortable in great part of town - Clean and comfy bed, we have private room so whole room was great for space though small as like any accommodation in an older style building. Service at front desk was friendly with each passing as well as check in and departure. Bathrooms well equipped & extremely clean and looked after.
- Kate (10/5): - I really enjoyed staying here. It was cleaned and neat as well as well organizing all the places, loved kitchen interior. I loved my room. The employee was super nice and let me stay one bedroom alone when there is a space available. This is fantastic customer service that I had. My experience was really good and easy to acess everywhere. Thank you combie to make me a great experience in Vancouver.
- karen (8/5): Great for attending events - Booked this with a friend to attend a concert. It was clean and comfortable and a good choice for a quick overnight stay. would stay here again.
- Margaret (10/5): - Great location. Could walk everywhere.
Had a 2 person room. Was noise from restaurant/bar below and no A/C but knew before we booked. There was a fan in the room and we slept fine.
Front desk people were nice. Room and bathroom down hall were spotless.
- Saara (10/5): - Liked the food options nearby
- Kristen (10/5): - Great place to stay and a great location
- shana (4/5): - I got eaten alive by BED BUGS during my stay. Place is not very clean and many of the security doors are broken and or out of use. I would not stay again or recommend to another.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff is nice and friendly! Clean bed and great location. No air conditioning but it had a fan to keep cool.
- Anastasia (8/5): - N/A
- Sue (2/5): - The sheets aren’t washed, find some hair on it but the worst part is bed bugs. Me and my husband were both been bitten. And find some bugs crawling on the bed and I have took some videos of it.
- Maria (6/5): - The music and singing from next door was so close to the room and was hard to fall asleep. The room was too warm at night even though outside was ok.
- Linda (8/5): - Not a place for older people.
- Jason (10/5): - Great location, great staff, very friendly, overall very happy with my stay.
- HaeJung (4/5): - I didn't know that 2nd floor is more than 3rd floor.
- Kelly (8/5): Great location - Great location. Walked from the hullo ferry and to our concert at Roger’s centre. Neat to be tied to a pub next door. Nothing luxury but gave us what we needed. Felt slightly over priced for a shared bathroom. But it is downtown
- kenneth (8/5): - Clean and felt safe.
- Thelma (10/5): A great place downtown - The location for downtown is fantastic, my room facing the street was loud a night from the bar below and street noise. The kitchen/ lounge was fantastic, lots of room for food and complete kitchen to cook in and friendly atmosphere to meet new friends. The bathrooms were very clean and the showers were hot and spacious. The bunkers were comfortable for bunk bed and the bedding was fine. The security storage under the bed fit my open carry on bag and other personal items. I purchased a lock they offered for $10 and felt very secure with my belongings. The security was excellent and the staff very helpful. I checked out and left my bags in a secure space until 5 pm.
- Howard (8/5): - really hit & miss... one night was terrible with the "roommates" but the next was excellent
- Howard (8/5): - It depends on the nights "roommate" if the stay will be enjoyable or not
- Dexter (10/5): - Good place to stay in Vancouver at affordable price will definitely be visiting again
- Ivan (10/5): - I had a good time and experience at this hostel. Close to downtown and important attractions. Just make sure to pack a towel with you. They have towels but you have to pay. Otherwise, it is a nice hostel.
- Heather (10/5): - Great staff… comfy room, stayed in the Seymour suite and it was lovely… clean… shared bathroom looked brand new… super clean… attached pub had awesome food… was a quick walk up the street from the waterfront station at the end of the Airport Canada line and pretty short walk to the cruise port. Great value!
- Lisa (8/5): - Clean and close to cruise terminal!
- Joshua (10/5): - Great place to spend the night and go out to tour Vancouver.
- Melanie (10/5): - Very handy location in Vancouver, 10-15min walk to Canada Place & train station, Gastown, etc. Rooms & bathroom were kept very clean & you can do your laundry from 4pm to midnight daily (so housekeeping staff can do necessary laundry first). Bunk bed was comfortable, plenty of local food outlets available until late & the bar downstairs has something on every night. That can get a bit noisy with karaoke, etc echoing thru the building, but not a huge issue. Enjoyed my stay 4 days & would recommend!
- Molliere (10/5): - Loud music coming from bar below.
- Chau (8/5): - The Deluxe Double room that we got is a corner unit, newly renovated and is charmingly decorated. It is spacious, nice firm bed, and comfortable enough with nice bench along one wall where there is a window looking down at the street.
It would be nice to have at least a sink in the room at the price that it is at, especially since it is a large room and the farthest from the communal bathroom as well!
The staff was very helpful and efficient and the bars on the main floor are cool and unique.
The noise of doors shutting and people talking in the hallway started at 7 am and is non-stop unfortunately -- so you need to be prepared to wear earplugs or to rise early. Also there is no shampoo or any washing liquid the showers.
- Renae (4/5): - Had a private room: beds were not comfortable, very loud street noise and could hear the other guests. Shared bathroom was somewhat clean but run down. Would not stay longer than one night. Excellent location to the cruise terminal and easy and quick access to the sky train.
- Jessica (2/5): - If you like hearing music till 2:30 am this place is for you. Staff were friendly, centrally located, but awful because of the noise.
- Kian (10/5): - Very good for the price.
- Linda k (6/5): - Easy in Vancouver city
- siyasphe (10/5): - I liked the cleaning and quietness
- Beatrice Mai (6/5): - We only stayed 2 nights and had a private room in the Cambie Hostel. It was clean and the staff we friendly but in some areas for the price and well sort location it didn’t do very well. It was small and a bit dated in some areas including the women’s bathrooms which the showers didn’t work. Probably wouldn’t consider staying here again unless the price was better, especially if location is your top priority.
- Francisco (8/5): - Very well located, with many possibilities around for dinner and going out. Old building with basic cleaning. Convenient price and near to sky train stations. Attention was very nice and kind. I will be back there someday 😁
- parmeet (2/5): - Very congested rooms not clean rooms
- Jing (6/5): - Hi,
FYI, when we left, yesterday morning and went next door to Parking garage, our car was broken into with broken glass all over. It cost a lot of money to repair!
- thao (6/5): - convinience
- Darren (6/5): - It’s good in a pinch and for the price. But go with Low expectations
- Allan (10/5): - Handy to public transportation to the airport.
- Jill (10/5): Would stay again - Great place! Very friendly, helpful and clean. The beds were surprisingly very comfortable 😊
- Howard (8/5): - Loud but can't beat the location or price
- David (6/5): - Close to everything and small lounge with kitchen on first floor. Was noisy though! You must wear ear plugs or noise canceling airpoda if you want to sleep properly! You literally hear everything around!
- Jane (10/5): - I booked a same-gender bunk bed room and, to my surprise, had the room to myself for five out of the six nights. Although the room was very small, it was well-designed, with thoughtful storage and convenient plug-ins—which I especially appreciated having all to myself. Everything worked well, the space felt safe and quiet, and the staff were friendly.
- Marc (2/5): Loud and not as advertised - Private room in a hostel but it appeared to have a bathroom, which it did not - had to go down the hall, which is fine but not at this price and when it says 'with bathroom'.
Then on night 2 it was kareoke night at the bar below. I could literally sing along from my bed at full volume, if the singers weren't so bad.
Sorry.
- Myra (8/5): - When we arrived the young gentleman booked us in was very friendly and helpful. We walked into our room and it was very spacious. The room was very cool. There is not head control in the room. The hallways were so warm that you were instantly sweating. We had booked the Suit. It had, what we believe, was a queen bed. It was the firmest beds I have every come across but it was good to sleep on. We had 4 large comfy pillows and the duvet, even though was very slim and light, was extremely warm. The one wall had a full bench with cushions and a window we could open for fresh air. We had some goodies in the room; 2 bottles of water, 2 bottles of coke, and 4 packages of coffee. The room came with a little broken lamp above the coffee area. There was a small fridge for convenience; we utilized it. There was a kettle that we used for coffee and soup.
The room also came with 2 hand towels; bring your own wash cloth and larger towel for the showers.
The bathroom was down the hallway near the door to the stairs. The keys were very sticky to get the door unlocked to use the facilities. The ladies bathroom had 2 toilet stalls and 2 very skinning shower stalls. We did not use the shower as we were there for such a short time.
The kitchen offered much if you has your own food. The kitchen was full of pots/pans/plates/etc. that you would need to prepare and enjoy food
The booking site was very unclear and I thought I had booked a room that offered its own private bathroom which was wrong.
- David (10/5): - This was a great stay they are a great place to stay right downtown.
- Christine (10/5): - Alvin at the front desk was really nice and helpful during my stay! There's also a front desk lady in the morning who's really nice, but I wasn't able to get her name.:)
Smooth check in and check out process.
- Casey (8/5): - It's a good cheap place to stay if you don't need much. The building is old but it's clean
- David (2/5): - No one should go near Either Cambie hostels they are DISGUSTING inside and outside there is an abundance of Street people around both hostels making no one safe. I left this property and went to a nice clean safe property. Please pull both Cambie hostels from your web page
- Ajay (10/5): - Wonderful staffs. Clean Property. Overall a great experience.
- Kazuyuki (8/5): - WaterfrontやGastownにとても近く便利な立地です。少し古い感じはしますが、過ごすには問題ないと思ます。ただ、近くにナイトクラブがあるので、遅くまでその音が響くことがあります。
- Ernesto (10/5): - It was a great stay overall. Room was as advertised, staff is great. That is if you don't mind the music coming from the bars downstairs.
- Jan (8/5): Choose this one or their other downtown hostel - Cambio have two downtown locations. The trainstation is a block or two away. Bus line outside. Everything is right there. Exceptional cleaniness. Two bars downstairs. Know this: the rooms are small. Very nice staff. I stayed for 2 days and am happy. I came in from Sweden
- Saeth (4/5): - Noisy
- Verified traveler (10/5): Definitely Book This Place! - We happened upon the Cambie Hostel because two VRBO hosts canceled on us, on the biggest weekend in Vancouver's history-the Taylor Swift Era's tour FINAL stop.
We never stayed at a hostel before and were a bit apprehensive. We were SO lucky and SO pleased that a room opened up at the Cambie! The front desk hosts were always pleasant. The room was spotless and so comfy. Everything we needed was within walking distance to the hostel. BEST SPOT EVER!!! Malone's was a terrific spot to eat at before seeing Taylor. The 515 Bar was one of the best bars we've ever been to-what an amazing vibe! Every single person we encountered in Vancouver was so kind and helpful. We will definitely be back!
- Arunav (8/5): - Great place to stay! Squeaky clean!
- Teresia (10/5): - Friendly guest
- brian (10/5): - My stay there was very good. Bed,bathroom, kitchen was good.
Staff were most welcoming & helpful.
What I am still not happy about is I have not recieved C$5 credit to my card for return of the towel issued.
- David (10/5): - Great location & walking distance from everything I wanted to do while I was in Vancouver. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Next time I visit Vancouver (hopefully soon for Grey Cup / Taylor Swift) I’ll definitely try to stay at the Cambie Downtown Hostel again!!!
- Howard (6/5): - The 1st floor accommodations, you could hear every song the DJ was playing until closing time from the bars next door... other than that, you get what you pay for
- Nathaniel (8/5): - I had everything I required for my stay, except for hot showers. I never got any hot water. The best I could do was reduce the flow to a near dribble & get a tolerable tepid. The noise from downstairs was constant thru most of the nights, but I wore earplugs to dampen the sounds. However, on Friday night, they played loud music & I could hear the bass & drumbeats thru my plugs. I was kept awake until past midnight. Also my food was once stolen from the kitchen.
- Paula (8/5): - The property was clean although mold can be seen in places , the area was noisy but the convenience was great for my purposes.
- Joung Youn (8/5): - Good place. Location is great and there are nice pubs and restaurants nearby.
- Damon (10/5): - Affordable but noisy. Loud traffic noise and music from the bar downstairs. Earplugs helped. Super convenient to transit and walkable.
- Sue (10/5): - Excellent
- Zohaib (10/5): - Great location to be in
- Ray (10/5): - Very friendly staff and very helpful throughout stay
- Bruce (4/5): - private washroom
- Drew (4/5): - Very small room in poor condition, s
- Marcia (2/5): - The worst hostile I have ever been to in my entire life and I have been going to hostels for 50 years. Absolutely absolutely disgusting diarrhea all over the bathroom. Horrible rooms just horrible.
- Wendy (8/5): - It was very convenient to where we wanted to be.
- Antony Nikhil (10/5): - Staffs are very friendly & polite.Good place to stay.
- Eric (8/5): - Not a bad place to stay for an inexpensive hostel. Main complaint was no A/C making the rooms hot in summer plus no breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location is great in downtown Vancouver, a couple blocks from the ferry and cruise terminal and a few blocks to Gastown. The taproom downstairs has good brews and food at competive prices, sometimes with live music. The main downside for me was that the room was a bit too warm now during mid-summer though the personal fan they provide helped and open windows made it cooler as the evening and night progressed. At certain times during morning rush, more toilets and showers would have been helpful but were otherwise adequate. Yes, I'd stay here again for the location convenience and price.
- Mohit (8/5): - Great option for Solo Trip
- James (6/5): - Good inexpensive option. Nice to have a room for two but very small.
Bit of a funny layout with doors and stairs required to find bathroom.
Bar downstairs very loud and also street noise.
- HyeRin (4/5): - Location is great but the room is very small and no air condition, no fan. It was very hot. Also, bunk bed doesn't have guard rails. It's a bit scary what if I fall off from the bed while sleeping. Also, at night, it's very noisy.
- lucy (8/5): - Location good
Noisy and hot
- Chun Wing (2/5): - The room has no ventilation, I must keep the windows open, but the room is at 1/F and facing the bustling street, the noise of traffic and cracked head people at mid night makes me have no way to sleep.
And the music from the bar downstairs is loud enough to shack the bed. The power outlet is far from the bed, I couldn’t charge my phone while on bed. Other than great location Overall is not a great stay if you had a long day and require a good rest.
- Azhagan (8/5): - This is good place for single traveler. Not suitable for couples. Cheap and in the center of the town.
- Kerry (6/5): - The outside traffic noise was loud. The facilities were basic but overall it was okay for one or two nights. Very convenient location.
- Elizabeth (6/5): - The women restroom is dirty and old.
- Rebecca (8/5): - Cheap and clean
- Yun Jae (4/5): - Pros
- Downtown, easily accessible
- Affordable
Cons
- Very loud. Windows are kept open.
- Dirty
- Towel service
- Jackson (10/5): - Excellent
- Visruth (10/5): - Access to public transportation
- Christina (10/5): - Very clean common areas. We got a private room and were happy with the bed.
- Ranjit (2/5): - I did stay there room is rate is not good according to room we cant take go inside the room for dinning. its not good for there
