Adam (6/5): Overpriced and unclean - I had quite high hopes for here as the photos suggest a certain feel and quality. For £154 for the night, that's what I was expecting. Check-in was smooth, staff were polite and friendly. We were accommodated in the restaurant despite our late arrival. Food wasn't anything special but very expensive for what it was: £93 for fish and chips, lamb shank, 2 dishes of 3 ice cream scoops, pint of Pepsi, pint and half of Amstel. The room looked nicely decorated however it clearly hadn't been cleaned properly in a while. Cobwebs near the tea making facility and on the radiator. Dust on most surfaces including copper bath, bedside table and lamps. You'd be anaphylactic if you had a dust allergy. The bin hadn't been emptied from the previous guests. A fan was supplied as none of the windows open, making the room very stuffy in the recent hot weather. The bathroom taps had areas of black grime/mould - in the pic. The shower heads hadn't been cleaned in a long time with evidence of orange mildew and limescale; black mould in the shower tray/grout/seals. Some wall fixings in the bathroom also coming away from the wall. The bed was comfortable at least but didn't dare check the cleanliness under the sheets after our sleep. Unfortunately all the above was noticed on the morning we were leaving. Was £247 for the above worth it? Definitely not. Even when I used my accrued £67 OneKeyCash rewards to lower the room price, I'd still say I felt ripped off.

Brian (10/5): - Great rooms and nice food. Was a little confused as to where reception was as just someone sat at the bar. Despite that, it was a very nice stay with well furnished room and some lovely coffee to go in the morning.
Tiffany (6/5): - Room and venue was lovely. Room was small but especially well resourced for short stay with lots of amenities. I really liked its interior. We were in what seemed like a converted barn. Only minus side was that the only natural light came from one window that was overlooked by the pub window and entrance to the beautiful outdoor seating area, so moving around in a towel post shower and using hairdryer (that was at the window) all felt vulnerable and exposing. Breakfast was £16.50 a head and in honesty was the worst I’ve had somewhere. Served by a young staff, we were asked what time we’d like to be served and chose 8.30am. Orders weren’t taken until 8.45am and another half hour later an overcooked full English arrived. Half the items were hardly edible due to their brittle and oil soaked nature. It all took so long we were pushed for time on leaving. Staff were so young and nervous, it all felt unfair to complain. I’d stay again no problem. It was a genuinely lovely atmosphere, gorgeous and private room, but I’d skip the breakfast.
Stephen (8/5): Good little spot! - Stayed last minute. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Nice bar/restaurant area. Room was clean and modern. It’s located on a main road through the village so it can be noisy.
Anna (10/5): Night Away - Lovely comfortable room with excellent facilities. Parking was tricky but managed to find a space on the road a short walk away (note: only one side is free parking). Food in the pub was lovely with a good selection.
Verified traveler (10/5): excellent - we were attending a wedding nearby so was only a overnight stay. The young lady who checked us in and out, , served breakfast ,made coffees , cleared up, was excellent. Unfortunately i forget to get her name, but she went above and beyond and could not do enough for us under a very busy breakfast service.

Katie (6/5): - The property is lovely but our hotel room was the family suite, it was very dark, very dusty, no coffee filter, no spoons and no coat hangers for our cloths. Only one sink worked and the room was very dusty. The bedding had holes in the duvet cover and the duvet was ripped. Oliver the manager is lovely and helped out with certain things we needed. Overall it was a very expensive room and was not impressed at all.

Verified traveler (6/5): - Room was painted dark green from ceiling to floor, limited lighting so room felt very dark. Room was very hot, even though radiators were all off, and only small fan provided. On a busy road so take ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. Had dinner in restaurant and service was incredibly slow, took ages to get served. Food was quite bland and expensive for what it is. Breakfast is really limited if you didn't want a hot breakfast. Tele didn't work in room, and no phone in room to call. You have to call from mobile and have no reception on phone. When I did manage to call there was no answer and no voicemail option. Bathroom door was broken so couldn't close the door. Water pressure in shower was also very poor.

The bed was absolutely one of the most comfortable and afforded a very good nights sleep. The breakfast in the morning was excellent and only had to ask for anything from extra tea to toast whatever no problems at all.

Verified traveler (6/5): - I do like the Fox and Coney and stayed a few times before. Sadly this time I felt my room was looking and feeling tired. The TV did not work. More accurately there was no signal. The loo roll holder was loose and fell on to the floor. I was in room no.1 which was above the dining room so very noisy and near a huge extractor fan chimney thing. I chose to stay there. Perhaps I may stay elsewhere next time. Two big positives, the food was good and the staff very pleasant.

Jane (6/5): - Staff were friendly and helpful and the room was pretty nice although a bit dark. Biggest disappointment was the cleanliness or otherwise of the room. The sequins and fake rose petal that were clearly visible on the carpet showed it hadn't been properly hoovered. The bathroom could have been cleaner on arrival and after the room had been done the next morning the bathroom hadn't been cleaned again. As an FYI the road outside the pub is very noisy from early in the morning - not the fault of the pub - but unfortunately it is used as a rat run for HGVs on their way to York. It's a pity because the village is otherwise nice and quiet.

Be aware that older visitors,especially with mobility issues, may find the stairs challenging. Would definitely come again!

D (10/5): The Fox and Coney - Great stay at The Fox & Coney. Good food, excellent room,lovely helpful, friendly staff. Well positioned for Hull, York and the coast. Highly recommend. Better than a 4* that I stayed in in Copenhagen. Only downside was the WiFi which wasn't always so great.

Comfortable and well presented room and bathroom (with rain shower). Fresh coffee provided. Welcoming and warm ambience in the bar and restaurant and the food was outstanding. Parking either behind the premises in the dedicated car park or otherwise safely on the street. Didn't cost the earth to stay here either. Had an issue accessing the WiFi in the room (if there was anything to find fault with the place !). Will definitely be returning

John (8/5): Good stay. - I was pleasantly surprised by the whole place, the food and beer were both good. I have two minor gripes about the room. Firstly it was painted a drab dark grey which felt a little depressive, and secondly the window could not be opened (a fan was provided but it would have been better to have had some fresh air). Also my meal was rushed through. I hadn't finished my starter when the lad wanted to take my plate, and as soon as I finished, he took it and within a minute my main course was on the table. I do find that as a single traveler my meal is often pushed through quickly, but I was there for the whole evening and had plenty of time to enjoy my evening.

Lovely village but in the immediate area there is very little to do or walk to. Previous reviews had mentioned the front rooms could be noisy but although there was some traffic noise it wasn’t an issue. The room was an upgrade and was delightful. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful.

Richard (10/5): Gem of a place in lovely friendly village - Arrived early afternoon on Saturday and got parked in the car park Went to the bar and was warmly greeted by 2 members of the team. Got checked in nicely, added breakfast to the bill for the following day, and walked to our room and shown both out of hours entrance and in hours entrance. Room was lovely, room 1, family room. Lots of wardrobe space, iron & board, great products in the room from toiletries to lovely ground coffee and biscuits. Had lunch there just before 3pm which was a lovely steak and ale pie, chips and veg. Top marks ! Very nice indeed. Service was great too. Went out for work and came back about 9.45pm and had some well deserved drinks before bed. Bar staff great and prices reasonable too. Lovely comfortable bed and good nights sleep. Then breakfast was amazing. Service a little below par to previous but food was amazing and well worth the money. Would easily stay here again
Ann (10/5): Great stay - Great service, breakfast, staff and manager very professional and friendly. Lovely interiors and when I left my glasses and a button they sent it to me that same day and I received it in the post the next day. I would strongly recommend this hotel.

Plus expecting to pay £13 extra for a breakfast when charged over £100 for a room was never going to happen

Verified traveler (8/5): Bed type - Room was not as the confirmation email said… said it had a double and 2 single beds in it. As I was travelling with my daughter we wanted separate beds and when we checked in we were told it was a cosy double. The staff were helpful and separated the bed making it in to 2 singles but I would have phoned the hotel directly asking for a twin room had I not been told in the email confirming the booking that there would be 3 beds in the room!

My room was right next to the garden which meant that I was unable to sleep until some noisy guests left. I was disappointed that no packed lunch was available which shouldn’t have been a problem as there was a restaurant on the premises. I had to make do with unhealthy pre packed food from a nearby shop

Toria (8/5): Nice stay, be mindful of parking - There is limited parking, once you drive into the car park and find that its full it's tricky to manoeuvre to leave and drive down the street to a local car park. Staff were friendly, helpful and the food was lovely. Room was lovely, but be aware it's a period building and on a main road
Debra (10/5): Great place to stay. - Lovely clean room and en-suite. Large comfortable bed. Great hot drink selection in room. Staff helpful and doing a great job. Breakfast great. We will return if ever back in this area.
