Guest Reviews
- Connor (10/5): -
- Dawn (10/5): - A superb warm and friendly welcome. Rooms are cosy with comfy beds and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was delicious as our evening meal. Looking forward to going back next year.
- Derrick (6/5): -
- Michael (10/5): It was a real pleasure to stay at The Village once again. Wendy made us feel really welcome, and we will definitely book - Cosy rooms are spotless and well furnished. Exactly as described. Off road parking. Friendly and helpful staff. Both breakfast and evening meals were available and were tasty and great value. Nothing.
- Norman (3/5): I would never recommend this place. - The room was extremely small. I noticed just before going to bed that my bed was dirty from a previous customer and found an eyelash on the pillow cover. In the morning, my brother found a piece of previously chewed gum, in his bed. I was not stuck to the covers so it must have been left there after the last customer. My brother took a picture of a 1/2" long bug in our bathroom and took a pic of it. there was no shower in our room but there was a nice shower room across the hall. the mattress was old and lumpy. The establishment showed it's age.
- Claire (6/5): -
- kay (9/5): Overnight stop - So friendly, convenient, dog friendly, comfortable beds Had to miss breakfast because of our early start 😕 . Not their fault . Shame no food available in evening
- Caroline (10/5): Lovely, welcoming and friendly - Lovely pub in a really nice local village, really nice walks nearby, bed was very comfy and the room was lovely and cosy, room had tea and coffee, Wendy the owner was very welcoming and friendly, and couldn’t have been anymore helpful with anything I needed and recommendations on the area. Dog friendly too and I found it affordable. There’s also some lovely walks nearby. Thanks for a great stay!
- Valerie (8/5): We came Christmas Day, because we don’t do Christmas and the beds were amazing staff really good - It was Terrible, toast burn no TLC
But it was Christmas Day maybe hung over
Un edible.. but other than that was excellent Only breakfast
- Martin (5/5): OK for one night - Pleasant staff Very small rooms
- Mary (7/5): -
- Paula (7/5): - Frühstück war gut! Die Matratze war nicht in Ordnung!
- Iain (9/5): -
- Steve (1/5): appalling - Nothing It was closed on arrival no lights on, no staff there, could not get in and had to find an alternative hotel at extremely short notice - we do not expect to be charged for this - dreadful after a days work
- Alistair (1/5): Won’t be back. - Location Lights out and nobody about on arrival. Nobody answering phone. Had to use messenger to response. Found out no longer did evening meal. No WiFi, tv no signal and shared bathroom: such a shame as location great and so much prospects.
- Steve (9/5): Excellent stay with much appreciated Breakfast to go do my early Starts. - Good location and Excellent Breakfast to go. No Complaints.
- Tyra (10/5): -
- Tyra (10/5): -
- Kirsty (9/5): - Very comfortable stay, delicious breakfast. There was a park just over the road for the dog so it was super easy.
- virginie (6/5): - Petit déjeuner inclus très bon et copieux
- Jim (8/5): Good value and breakfast - Quirky village inn Unusual check in
- Paul (10/5): One of best places I’ve ever stayed in. - Everything - hosts were amazing too! Nothing I didn’t like.
- stephen (10/5): -
- Michael (10/5): This was our second stay at The Village Inn and we were not disappointed. We spent a relaxing couple of days touring and - Cosy room. Cleanliness. Friendly and helpful staff. Traditional Scottish breakfast. Off street parking. Value for money. Nothing.
- Lee (5/5): Ok if want no sleep - Really comfortable bed clean tidy room Both nights had very little sleep for work purposes not ideal, probably didn’t help it was a weekend. First night loud music, 2nd night loud music and a woman crying and shouting till 5am can hear every little noise in other rooms and Iam a heavy sleeper.
- Frank (8/5): -
- Gerhard (8/5): Great value-for-money location for visiting the Pentland Hill - Great location for visiting the Pentland Hills.
Clean room with annex toilet and shared showers (very clean!).
Good pro-active communication by host Breakfast area was non-inspiring.
- Alex (8/5): - Breakfast
Free WiFi
Room comfort and coffee/tea provisions
Friendly staff
Free car parking Poor first impression. Overflowing bins in car park. Unemptied ashtrays on outside decking.
Everything got better on entry.
- Annette (9/5): Exceptional; location is fabulous too - The location; the warmth - felt like home. Indeed, I was pleasantly surprised when I walked through the door. The outside looks ordinary but nothing prepares you for the interior; the photos do not do it justice at all. Nothing.
- Darren (10/5): Perfect - We got exactly what we paid for - host was 10/10 food was 10/10 - I would stay there again. If you want a posh hotel book one - this did the job. And I give top score. For all that I experienced and will go again 👍 More food options - but it is coming
- Evelyn (8/5): Great location, lovely staff, good facilities and would stay again ! - Helpful and friendly staff. Extremely comfortable bed. Great location and good breakfast. Would stay again. Nothing
- Sophie (8/5): - Easy and friendly
- Kevin (7/5): Clean & comfortable. - Very clean & nice breakfast.
- john (7/5): Beautiful village inn - The room was very clean and well stocked with biscuits and drinks, the locals are really friendly and the staff excellent. A lovely village setting. Excellent for commuting to Edinburgh and walkers. The room was above the pub entrance which was extremely noisy. The bed was too soft so I was unable to sleep and the shower had very low water pressure.
- eugenio jose (10/5): Simplemente excelente - Una hernia propiedad y con excelentes instalaciones.
- Jaume Vaque (8/5): - Desayuno bueno
Amabilidad del personal
Entorno tranquilo
- Lucrezia (7/5): - Ottima colazione e disponibilità dello staff Le dimensioni della stanza
- Nicole (9/5): Relaxing stay in easy striking distance to Edinburgh. - Room was very clean and comfortable and very welcoming staff 😊 Lots of lovely touches so caramel wafer each in the room and extra towels as well as a robe for the shower. Looks a little tired from the outside
- Vivien (8/5): - Very friendly staff, very clean and tidy room. No where to have an evening meal,
no on suit shower.
- baillie (9/5): A perfect, quiet, relaxing stop over after an 11½ Hr drive from the deep south. Would visit again. - The village was quiet and picturesque, The Village Inn was clean, tidy and comfortable. The Landlady was charming and the breakfast delicious. A perfect stop over after driving from the Isle of Wight on my way to the Highlands. I didn't enjoy thee M6 but I can't blame anyone in Scotland for that! No complaints here!
- Mckinnel (8/5): Very good -
- Chris (10/5): - Very friendly staff and lovely cafe
- Kate (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (9/5): Superb - Grand , friendly , clean , staff very helpful !
- Charles (5/5): Passable -
- Michael (4/5): Disappointing - The younger staff were very pleasant. Breakfast was good. Although I got there early, I was made to wait way past the official booking in time. No one seemed to know what was happening. Twice staff tried to come into my room with other guests. I never saw anyone actually in charge at any stage. There was wild and aggressive shouting outside later in the evening as though a fight was breaking out. I feared for my car parked below. The shouting went on for a while and disturbed my sleep. In addition, there was nowhere in the village to get any food at night. I just felt it was all overpriced and not a pleasant place to be.
- Carolyn (9/5): Superb - Kailey looked after us and was an absolute gem. We had a really fun night in the bar before heading up to our comfy rooms. Complimentary breakfast the next morning was a lovely bonus. Totally recommend xx
- Lloyd (9/5): A hidden gem - Clean, friendly, comfortable and pet friendly. A win win . I will definitely keep the number for next year's Scotia cat show.
Lovely choice of freshly cooked breakfast and beautifully cooked too. Only downside was the traffic noise with the window open. A slight problem which can't be helped due to location.
- Morag (7/5): Good - Friendly staff clean room Shared showering facilities
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional - Nice cosy wee place, staff were very friendly and helpful, good breakfast and comfy beds
- Jason (7/5): Good -
- Colin (9/5): Superb - Location No shower in room
- Mic (9/5): Friendly welcoming place. I wouldn't hesitate to rebook if ever I was in the area again. - Exceptionally friendly place. Staff, locals in the pub; all were brilliant. Room and shower rooms were modern, clean and above expectation. Breakfast was excellent and good value. Even though no food was available in the evening, the offer was there to make me something simple if I required it. Great wee place all round. Not a lot really. As it was warm, I had the window open at night which led to some road noise and the sound of merriment from the bar. As I'd been part of that earlier, I really didn't mind, and slept well
- Jay (7/5): Great stay before our trip round the highlands - Great little place Didn’t realise that the shower was separate to our room luckily we were the only ones staying
- Allen (8/5): Very good -
- Anita (2/5): Very poor - The bathroom was large and clean. The single beds were comfy. The bath towels were too small. The room was very small and basic. Quite noisy too.
- Peter (7/5): Did the job for a one night quick stop over. - Rooms all close together, comfortable and clean. Breakfast was not that great, was expecting more.
- Anthony (6/5): - Trying to be balanced with my feedback, the room was comfortable and i slept ok. However no ensure shower or bath just basin and toilet. No provision for food in the evening and nearest pub or restaurant was 4 miles away. Breakfast was provided as long as you like your eggs scranbled. Would i use again , no but it was in no way uncomfortable..just very basic.
- Pauline (8/5): Very good - People are very friendly, bed very comfortable, Very clean.
- Claire (10/5): Overnight stay - Cosy, clean everything you need for a stop over.. Lovely, helpful staff good breakfast. Nothing
- Francesco (8/5): Very good -
- Annika (8/5): We would go here again as long as we could chat with owner about the status of the world again. - Nice room with bathroom, clean and tidy. Tea and coffee. Lovely owner that made us feel welcome. Good breakfast.
- Karen (10/5): - Lovely little hotel, great host, very friendly, clean and comfortable room, we chose this hotel because it was Pet Friendly and it didn’t disappoint, the only negative is no evening meals, but you can drive into Lanark 4 miles away where there’s a great choice, there’s also a small supermarket opposite. Apart from that we had a great stay and would definitely use again
- Carol (9/5): Superb -
- Connor (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dawn (10/5): cozy & comfortable - loved our stay, rooms are comfortable, clean and cosy.
Wendy is warm and welcoming.
We will definitely stay again.
- Richard (8/5): Ideal for our particular circumstances. - Just what we needed for an overnight stay on our way up to Speyside from Derbyshire.
Dog friendly.
Nice location.
Welcoming people. Everything was good.
- Parker-smith (8/5): Great value and comfort - Easy to find. Had parking at front. Green opposite to walk dogs. Clean, had all that was needed. Very friendly. Text message with number to ring if no answer when arrived. Sorted an early continental breakfast because I was leaving early. Lots of towels. Love the tartan carpet!!
Don’t be put off by shower being across the hall. Robes are provided and it was not bother at just three or four steps away. Wish the bar had been open but only open Thursday to Sunday.
- Westwood (7/5): Good - the cost expensive with no on suite shower
- Dean (9/5): Superb -
- Helen (9/5): Suited my overnight stay completely. - Room was adequate in size and all that I needed for the overnight. Bed was comfy as were the pillows. Everywhere was fresh and clean looking with extra options for tea and coffee left in shared corridor should you require extra items - nice touch. Seperate shower room from actual room - didn't feel great having to lock-up room to then go into different room for a shower. TV very high on wall so only way you could watch was to completely lie in bed to do so.
- Gillian (7/5): Ok - The location was nice I didn’t like that the bathroom was over the corridor to the bedroom and the shower was falling off the wall. I know they are refurbishing . Also when I have stayed anywhere in Scotland the breakfast is usually hot but theirs was continental one which was disappointing
- Claire (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tony (10/5): Great hotel - Great little hotel , very clean , comfortable bed, bath robes and towels provided staff very friendly and helpful good breakfast although it was continental was no problem to give us something cooked will definitely use this hotel again . All good no complaints 👌 great little hotel
- Adrian (8/5): Very good - Convenient location. Excellent value for money. Nothing
- Rod (8/5): Great value and friendly staff. - Great value for money, easy check in and check out, and friendly staff. Toilet and hand basin en-suite but shared shower rooms.
- Nelly_80 (9/5): Overnight stop - Lovely room. Very clean with tea and coffee making facilities. Wendy is a lovely host and made us feel very welcome. On arrival, we were told there was a karaoke evening and put us in a room furthest away. We could hear it but didn't bother us too much.
There was some noise at 2 in the morning, but Wendy was very apologetic at breakfast the following morning.
- Mark (8/5): nice place to stay, welcoming staff, asked for an early breakfast they were only too happy to oblige - location, view, comfort, staff & price very dog friendly. although there was a toilet and sink in the room the shower / bathroom was opposite the room & it was not a shared bathroom but there was bathrobes provided. there was a quiz night held in the bar the night we stayed but we were warned when we arrived but it didn't cause that much of an issue. there was an issue with the breakfast but due to issues beyond their control we accepted the explanation and would return when kitchen is up and running again.
- Sandra (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - Great place and Mandy was great. Nothing
- Pawel (7/5): Good -
- Laila (10/5): EXCELLENT VALUE ON A PERFECT HOME FROM HOME! - Wendy was absolutely charming, warm and welcoming and such a lovely positive energy - and although I arrived at very short notice - was happy to greet me! The room was immaculately clean and the little toilet and wash hand basin was spotless, as was the separate shower room. The decor was smart, warm and hospitable and I felt very comfortable. There was a dressing gown, tea, coffee, milk and biscuits and superb service, which is more than I got paying 4 Xs more at the MacDonald Houston Spa Hotel in Livingston just a few miles away!! There is also a continental breakfast included so it's a perfect "pit stop" for a good sleep! Thank you Wendy - excellent value for money! Absolutely nothing to dislike!!!!
- Peter (7/5): Excellent value for money - Friendly welcome. Clean room Breakfast could have been better
- Kirk (7/5): Good - Friendly B&B / Pub. Owner is extremely polite and helpful. Nothing as the venue is extremely good value for money.
- Agnes (10/5): Had a Beautiful time would definitely recommend this property the breakfast was lovely Thank you - The staff were Very friendly the room was spotless the breakfast was Beautiful we will definitely come back Thank you for a enjoyable stay.
- Stephanie (8/5): Very good - Owner was very friendly and helpful, room was clean and my dogs were welcomed. Happy comfortable stay
- Graeme (9/5): Superb -
- Michelle (10/5): DEFINITELY STAY AGAIN - The room was lovely beautiful and clean the bed most very comfortable. Lovely wee pub next door staff very friendly and welcoming. Nothing was fantastic from start to finish.
- Gregg (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wendy (9/5): Superb -
- Yvonne (8/5): Very warm welcome. Locals very friendly. Highly recommend - Wendy was lovely and couldn't do enough for us. Would have preferred a could breakfast but we knew it was continental before we booked
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alan (8/5): A pleasant place to stay and although we now know the facilities we would stay again. - The rooms were clean and the proprietor was very approachable. Even giving access to the breakfast room for work after the time of departure. The Wifi was reliable downstairs but not reachable in the room. The hotel was well placed for exploring the surrounding countryside, and the peaceful location ensured a good nights sleep. The description given in booking.com is misleading. We thought we had a deluxe double room overlooking the garden. Apparently these rooms were flooded and no longer available. The three rooms available overlook the village green, at the front, and all three, although having own toilets, share two shower rooms over the corridor. We did not have satellite channels, tea/coffee maker, microwave, DVD player, cable channels or a toaster.
The description states a full English/Irish breakfast in with the price, this was not the case. Instead the offering was a Scottish continental breakfast.
- Andrew (8/5): Lovely host. - Easily accessible. Well heated. Very warm welcome. Newly refurbished and very clean. Nothing
- Donald (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natasha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Calum (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - A remarkable and well-maintained establishment, characterised by its exceptional cleanliness and orderliness.
- Victoria (10/5): Great stay in a lovely venue - Wendy was a great host, check in was easy. Room clean stylish and comfortable with en suite. Breakfast was lovely for continental there was decent choices and we were well fed. Location was perfect for an event we were at Only 2 critiques and nothing major- tv was very high probably could do with being lowered and maybe a coat hook at higher level to put clothes on that don't fit in the wardrobe
