- peterfH2067DZ (8/5): Now has a reception area - The hotel now has a reception desk and receptionist. This should of happened when they renovated the hotel as they had no reception there. It was so hard to discuss checking in or changing a booking as you were dealing with an overseas call center. This time the receptionist was most helpful and the response to my emails was prompt and accurate.
- jamesn195 (2/5): A one star review saved by one woman - During my stay at the statesman, I experienced some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. So, on the second night of my stay for a work trip I came down with food poisoning (Not the Hotels fault) However after a terrible night I decided it would be smart to rearrange my cleaning time to give myself some time to get some sleep and not have the cleaners wake me up. At 8:30 in the morning I go to reception and tell the girl what happened she sympathises and tells me it’s no worries and she can move the cleaning time to 2:30, so after some much needed rest I leave my room about 5 minutes before 2:30, give the cleaners some space I come back to my room about 20 minutes later to realise that my room has not been cleaned, I head down to reception to check and I am greeted by another woman, who I tell the situation and she says she is unaware of the arrangement but will call the other worker, so after 15 minutes I’m told that the cleaners have clocked off and that they came to my room but when they knocked no one answered so they didn’t go in (I think this is a porky because they cleaned my room the day before while I was out at work in the morning) but whatever I ask the receptionist if I can have some clean towels as my others have nasties on them, she proceeds to tell me that she doesn’t have access to the closet with the towels but the night manager who comes in at 7pm would. Come 7pm now feeling a bit better I trek down again to reception where I am greeted by a sign that says “Reception is now closed come back tomorrow” with a phone number at the bottom, which I ring only to go to a voicemail prompt. So at this point I am quite upset and still feeling very under the weather just wanting a nice shower and to rid my room of the vomit towels and the smell. I walk into the bar below and ask the bar staff if they could grab me the night manager and explain the situation. No one knows where this “Night manager” is until one amazing member of staff comes and helps me out saying she’ll ring him and try to find him. She then spends about 10 minutes trying to find him before coming back with an arm full of towels and cleaning supplies. She informs me that she couldn’t find the night manager and he must have clocked off but luckily her mum is the cleaner so she was able to access the towels and she even gave me some cleaning stuff the help me clean up the floors. She was the only member of staff throughout that entire day that actually cared and I’m sad I didn’t get her name because she was an actual angel. While I rarely give reviews and even rarer for me to give a bad one, I would recommend anyone stay far away from this establishment as on the odd chance you do have an issue you’ll find 99% of the staff flat out don’t care and will palm the issue off onto the next person until there is no one left.

- Peter (10/5): - Lovely well maintained older hotel/motel. Great staff, very clean with a bit of character. Despite being a hotel, very quiet and well located next to a small shopping centre with a decent supermarket and a small collection of other shops. No toaster or microwave, while the room (lower queen room) is compact, it is well suited to a 2 or 3 day stay. Helpful staff. Recommended as a good value stay close to Woden and the Canberra Hospital.

The adjacent small shopping area has a great supermarket...

Suggest staying at back of hotel on lower level away from the noise of pub at the front Also to note - no lifts so if on top floor its four flights up. Location to shops, pub (dinner) and areas around Canberra made this a great location.

- Samantha (8/5): A great value, comfy and friendly stay - We had a family trip to Canberra for 3 nights and really enjoyed our stay at the Statesman. The Statesman is a hotel/motel in the traditional Australian 1960's-80's style and has had a real glow up to bring it up to modern specs. We had interconnecting rooms to accommodate 2 adults and two kids. The rooms were very clean, had good amenities and the beds were very comfy. We enjoyed dinner in the Policy Restaurant in the Hotel one evening and it was great. Very good pub food and a lovely atmosphere with local families and groups also enjoying the cosy, friendly ambiance. We also ate one night at Two Blind Mice, which was a great casual restaurant a one minute walk from the Statesman. Evoke Bakery two doors down, was also fantastic for croissants and coffee and pies and breads, a really good bakery! Coles is also in that same set of shops, so the Statesman is really well served by local shops. Close to all the cultural institutions in Canberra City as well as the Zoo and Arboretum. The Statesman is a different style of accommodation, to say, a Meriton, etc. But for a very economical and pleasant stay, I would absolutely recommend the Statesman.

- lyndalb2013 (6/5): One night stand - The room was clean and air conditioner worked well. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. I didn’t realise that there was no lift and rooms were up stairs, which was an issue as I have a shoulder injury. Dined in the restaurant/bistro. My companion had the Bangers and Mash, which looked great. I had the black bean nachos with chicken. The chicken was dry and hard and the cheese within the nachos had not been warmed enough and was hard. Tasted ok, but was disappointing for the money. The view from the room was lovely.

- Elizabeth (10/5): Stay Here if You Want to See Parliament Area!! - A+++ on customer service. The price was more than fair. I don't think I've stayed in a hotel room that was cleaner or as well-maintained unless it was a 5-star luxury hotel. Great location and extremely convenient as there was a fantastic restaurant on-site (try the curry chicken dish!) and a mall with restaurants and other amenities right around the corner.

- Heather (8/5): Suitable for our needs - The hotel was in the perfect position for our stay - in walking distance to shops and good cafes. Room was spacious, bed/pillows were extremely comfortable, bistro was good. A couple of little things though - towels were placed on floor when instructed to do so when needed but they were not replaced, dirty cups left dirty throughout our three night stay, heater didn't really make much of a difference to the temperature of the room. Otherwise a good place to stay.

- Fearless02094059895 (10/5): Friendly stuff - I stayed at this hotel last night and I would like to mention that the service was excellent from Finn and Kate who were working in the restaurant area. Finn offered to help me with my suitcase without asking since it was a bit complicated since I have a back injury. Finn was very friendly and kind. Kate on the other hand served me with a beautiful smile when I went to order my dinner she was very kind and patient with me since i didn't understand the first time about the different type of chips. I felt very comfortable with the attention of these two young people. Thank you for making my stay pleasant. Yasna =)
- Barry (8/5): - We have stayed here before because it is a great location and the hotel facilities are very good at a very good price. The staff are very good. The only issue was the difficulty with using the television. Could not view any TV stations. The staff offered to help but we were away through the day and hence did not have the opportunity to take up their offer. I do not blame the staff at all.

It is very convenient to have the bistro downstairs. Likewise, it is incredibly convenient to have a DC electric vehicle charging station less than 100 m away. Will definitely stay again.

- Sean (10/5): - The property was one of the cheapest online ,so i wasnt expecting much ,but i will say is i was completely surprised, very clean and the room was large with very good linen ,who every is in charge is keeping the price low and turn over is the key ,well done to the staff and management.
- Lorraine (8/5): - The room was very quiet even though it was road side. The room very clean and handy for the facilities in the hotel. The hotel menu was pricey and limited, but the food was good. Yes I’d stay here again for one night.

I would have appreciated a guide to advise available services around the area - shopping centres, restaurants, etc. I did not appreciate 7am sunday morning vacuuming outside my room when i wanted a sleep in
- Christine (6/5): - Location suited my travel needs but also offered easy access to public transport into Canberra CBD. Missing was information prior to arrival about the self-service checkin proceedure using door codes in place of collecting keys from reception. Missing was any printed information about housekeeping proceedures and details for contacting Reception staff.
- Jenny (6/5): - We have been to the Statesman many times over the years usually when in Canberra for doctor appointments and were very happy with the service.This time it had been upgraded and felt very impersonal, we had trouble using the code to open the door of the unit and there was no one on the desk to ask but a staff member happened to walk past and gave us a demonstration. Luckily we were eating with family nearby as the dining area was closed. The little fridge in the unit could not freeze our cool blocks that we needed for travelling when we left. We would stay again but be prepared for the changes we hadn’t anticipated.
- Danielle (10/5): - It was super easy to stay at Statesman hotel. My favourite thing was the showers, second to the black our blinds. You wouldnt know youre staying at a busy hotel at all. Plenty of parking, easy check in and check out. Would recommend for all travellers on a budget!

- Wei-Tsen (6/5): - Pros: 1.The room featured a large TV, perfect for unwinding. 2.The pillows were incredibly comfortable, ensuring a great night's sleep. 3.Ample car parking made the stay stress-free. 4.The use of a phone as the room key was impressive—an innovative and eco-friendly solution that also removes the risk of losing a physical key. 5.The shower water pressure was excellent, providing a refreshing experience. Cons: 1.The Wi-Fi password was not provided at check-in and only became available close to check-out, which was inconvenient. 2.The windows couldn’t be opened, making the room feel less ventilated. 3.There was a water leak in the sink that was hard to turn off. 4.The kettle wasn’t clean when I wanted to prepare morning tea. 5.The decor felt outdated and would benefit from modernization. Overall, the hotel offered some standout features, like the innovative phone key and great shower, but a few improvements in cleanliness and maintenance would significantly enhance the experience.
- Dushianthi (8/5): Stay at Statesman Hotel. - Overall we were happy with everything, only disadvantage was we had to climb stairs with the bags! There was no lift.
