And our hosts Steve and Karen were warm, welcoming and so generous with tours and sharing the history of this lovely historical home. Our apartment (cos it definitely wasn't a room!!) was so roomy, beautifully furnished with lovely views of the greenery outside the room and Queenstown. Our breakfasts were great with lovely homemade granolas, great coffee and plenty of extras. It was a real treat to stay in such an historical and important house in Queenstown and meet Karen and Steve. Absolutely recommend. Nothing at all. Just wished we could have stayed longer

Karen and Steve are genuinely warm and welcoming hosts. From the moment we arrived, it felt relaxed and personal, not like a standard B&B. You feel cared for, not managed.
The house is beautiful — an elegant old home with a calm, peaceful atmosphere. Everything was spotless and well looked after, with very comfortable rooms and lovely linen. Nothing felt rushed or overlooked.
Breakfast was a real highlight. Steve is a natural host and clearly enjoys what he does. The food was fresh, generous, and thoughtfully prepared, and it was something we looked forward to each morning. I even surprised myself by enjoying the mushrooms.
Penghana is a place with heart. It’s quiet, gracious, and run with real care. We’re very grateful for the experience and would happily stay again.
Highly recommended for anyone visiting Queenstown who wants something special without fuss. I hope to return before too long, this time with my paramour.

- Helen (10/5): - Steve and Karen were the best hosts. Nothing was too much for them. They gave us great advice on what was available locally and even booked for us. The history of the building is something that both Steve and Karen are passionate to keep alive and were more than willing to take time out of their busy day to talk and show us around. Just that it rained 🙂
- Barry (10/5): Fantastic and relaxing - Loved the history of the place, the hosts were great and very accommodating, the room was very clean and the facilities were very nice. The shower was top notch. There was nothing we didn’t like.
- Suzanne (10/5): - Breakfast was especially nice, and Stephen and Karen were outstanding hosts.
- Alloway (10/5): A great stay at a historic, beautiful B&B. - Wonderful historical house with large comfortable rooms and guest lounges. Nice, quiet location with great view. The included breakfast is delicious, very filling and served beautifully. Nice, quiet location with great view. Friendly, helpful hosts with plenty of advice on local attractions and eateries. The hosts gave us and our friends an informative tour of their 'mini museum' (room) onsite which explains a lot of interesting aspects about the National Trust house and its occupants.
- wayne (10/5): A beautifully presented house beyond my expectations - Beautifully presented period house which was warm, comfortable and quiet. The room was immaculate and the shared spaces were welcoming and filled with historic reminders of the past. The hosts were friendly and engaging and went out of their way to see that I was comfortable. A rare experience in this modern world. N/A
- Errey (10/5): Amazing views, even more amazing people and truly the highlight of our Tassie trip! - Steve and Karen were so wonderful, they went above and beyond to make our stay so lovely! They recommended things to us and even booked us in for dinner reservations, you can see how passionate they are about what they do and they truly care about their guests. Steve is also an incredible cook and provides the most amazing breakfast, they both truly made us feel like we were at home, we'd stay here again in a heartbeat! The rooms are spectacular and the views are even more so, honestly the best place you could stay in Tassie.
- Morris (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts were very accommodating and helped in booking excursions. They also explained the origins of the house nothing seemed too much trouble
- Everett (10/5): The quintessential B & B - the way one might hope staying in a B & B should be! - Staff, location, ambience.
- Laegis (10/5): Charming, large and excellent Historical House, now a B&B - Historical house with a long history. Excellent facilities and the Bed was good. Room was huge as was the wardrobe area and bathroom also excellent. Hosts made you very welcome and explained the history of the house which was very interesting. There was also a guest lounge and kitchen that could be used any time. It is a B&B so breakfast was 5 star and made to your order in the morning. A very nice place to stay. If we come back to this area we would definitely stay there again. Nothing. Everything we wanted was taken care of.

- Sharat (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tracey (8/5): It’s a very traditional bed and breakfast - beautiful and quiet and worth visiting more than one night! - Wonderful house and beautifully cared for by the friendly knowledgeable couple who manage it - they really have done the community a favour, it’s sad that the national trust don’t spend more on the upkeep and garden.
I usually prefer modern properties - so was reluctant but loved all the little touches and the decor feels like a big elegant family home. National Trust really need to step up the maintenance - the windows are deteriorating and need attention.

Comfortable
Hosts thought of everything

- Min (10/5): If you're looking for a place for an absolute relaxation, I highly recommend this place! - I loved the breakfast at Penghana. Every item on the place was cooked to perfection, leaving me feeling well-fed and energised for my hike up Cradle Mountain. As a self-proclaimed coffee snob, I found the coffee delightful as well! Although I only stayed overnight, I had the absolute pleasure of talking to both Karen and Steve. They shared their fascinating their journey of relocating from QLD to Tasmania, as well as their family life and hobbies. I discovered Steve's huge passion for Arsenal football!. I couldn't find a single fault about this place; It was a heritage-listed gem brimming with character. I truly appreciated the numerous small touches that Karen and Steve provided for their guests. From the thoughtful amenities such as a spray for cleaning glasses to the delightful treats available at the kitchen, every detail was carefully considered. I was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome gift - a slice of fruit cake - and the unexpected but much appreciated essentials like a packet of candies and a toilet cover for my journey to Cradle Mountain. I also enjoyed having a glass of Tasmanian produced pinot noir at the bar while conversing with both Karen and Steve. These gestures truly enhanced my experience and made my stay even more enjoyable.
- Joy (10/5): An exquisite property with all a traveller could wish for. - Penghana B&B was exceptional in every way. From the status of the house high on the hill overlooking Queenstown to all the exquisite furnishings and facilities that Karen & Steve provided and the sumptuous cooked breakfast we could not fault our stay. True treasure.
- Peter (9/5): Highly recommended as an exceptionally comfy and welcoming place to stay - The ambience and extravagent spaciousness of the bedroom and public rooms was exceptional. The breakfast was excellent. The view from the room and the history of the house were fascinating. No shortfalls. The path to town was a little neglected but usable nevertheless.
- Paul (10/5): Comfortable, convenient and historical accommodation lodge. Friendly hosts. - Port and sherry up for grabs in the dining rooms.
Very nice english breakfast and how it was setup in the morning. Had current Netflix.
Wonderful views of Queenstown and the mountains.
The old history, architecture and heritage of the building itself.
Karen and Steve were friendly hosts. The only thing we can think of is that it seemed like any noise outside our room was too audible.
- Dave (10/5): I have photos to remind me of our wonderful stay however I do regret not asking Stephen for his scrambled eggs recipe. - Honestly it’s easier to list what I didn’t like!

They emailed very clear instructions on how to get there plus all the information regarding dinner requirements and what to do in Queenstown.
From the grand sense of arrival and the personal greeting at the Front Door, to attending to your every need, I immediately felt at home.
I loved the home made fruit-cake, (by Karen) waiting especially for me completed with a nice cup of tea.
Not only does the building have so much interesting history, (So Much History!!!) Karen & Steve were the ultimate hosts & tour guides.
The offer of an Umbrella, (so may little things) and I'm sure I have forgotten to mention so many others).
The personal tour, by Steve, of the attic and secret rooms was a real treat for me!!!. I will forever treasure the commentary.
Their attention to detail in the guest bedrooms, (including full toiletries, full bath room and hairdryer and specific decor), skipped nothing, including hot-water bottles, fluffy dressing gown, etc, if needed, but my room heating was more than adequate.)
The thoughtfulness given to every room, & amenities (common kitchen with all one would need) can not be overlooked.
Fully stocked licenced bar and the 3 course silver service Breakfast was one of the best!!!! Steve cooks the breakfast himself.
My only regret was not staying longer...

Walking to and from the premises to town via the rain forest gardens and steps.
We greatly appreciated the offer from Karen and Steve to drive us both ways from in town dining.
Good recommendations about places to eat in the evening in Queenstown. We especially enjoyed the Thai
restaurant with its gregarious "ORANGE man" owner. The breakfast was absolutely perfect. At home we grind our own coffee and use a really nice coffee machine, that produces lots of coffee flavor. Its an Spanish Expobar machine from Medhurst Kitchen Supplies in Hobart - So yes we like strong coffee.-
