- Thomas146 (10/5): Tolle Lodge mit phantastischen Blick - Wir hatten ein "Chalet" gebucht ohne genau zu wissen was das ist, diese sind einige Kilometer entfernt von Rezeption und Restaurant. Netterweise habe wie ein kostenloses Upgrade auf sehr schöne Zimmer in der Lodge bekommen. Die Anlage ist sehr schön, tolles Haus, sehr schöner Aussenbereich mit Pool und phantastischen Blick auf Landschaft mit Fluss. Abendessen und Frühstück sehr gut.

- Stefanie (1/5): - Das „Chalet“ zu finden war bereits eine Herausforderung, da der Zugang stark zugewachsen ist und die Beschilderung kaum bzw. gar nicht erkennbar war. Das Zimmer selbst ist deutlich in die Jahre gekommen und dringend renovierungsbedürftig. Beim Betreten fiel sofort ein unangenehmer, modriger Geruch auf. Die Nutzung von Solarenergie ist grundsätzlich positiv, allerdings bringt dies wenig, wenn die Anlage offensichtlich nicht zuverlässig funktioniert. Der Strom fiel bereits nach weniger als einer Stunde aus – und das bei lediglich einem (!) eingeschaltetem Licht. In der Folge stand auch kein warmes Wasser zur Verfügung.Aufgrund der Dunkelheit und der Wildtiere sowie auch dem nicht vorhandenen Signal war ein Kontakt zur Rezeption nicht möglich um sich direkt zu beschweren. Besonders enttäuschend war der Umgang mit diesen Problemen am nächsten Morgen: Hinweise darauf und Lösungsvorschläge zur Verbesserung wurden schlichtweg ignoriert. Insgesamt steht das Zimmer in keinem angemessenen Verhältnis zum Preis. Gerade bei einer Unterkunft, die als „2-Sterne-Chalet“ (oder höher) beworben wird, darf man deutlich mehr erwarten.

- SERGEI (4/5): Цена и качество не соответствуют - Великолепный завтрак! Неудобно и трудно подъехать. Достаточно ветхий номерной фонд, явно требует обновления, автомобили для сафари также очень старые. Тема совместного ужина за общим столом нам не подошла, хотели сидеть за отдельным столиком, своей семьей, вопрос решился, но лучше заранее уточнять у посетителей из потребности, чтобы не создавалось неловких ситуаций.

- Ilona (5/5): - Die Lage ist ausgezeichnet, mit sehr vielen Wildtieren. Morgens und Abends überqueren oft Gnu-Herden den Fluß, was man von dem Speisezimmer aus gut beobachten kann. Die Zimmer sind in die Jahre gekommen und brauchen dringend eine Renovierung. Das Badezimmer hatte keine Tür, Fenster und Türen klemmen und sind kaum zu öffnen und zu schließen. Moskitogitter zerfetzt und provisorisch mit Klebeband repariert. Kaum Licht im Zimmer, unmöglich abends etwas zu lesen. Auch kein Licht auf dem sehr steinigen, stufigen und holprigen Weg vom Speisezimmer im Haupthaus zu den Zimmern. Dringend eine gute starke Taschenlampe mitbringen!

Die unzutreffende negative Bewertung einzelner (deutscher) Besucher bei Booking com, deren Erwartung riesig zu sein scheint, ganz im Gegenteil zu ihrer Bereitschaft, sich auf das außergewöhnliche Konzept dieser Guestfarm einzulassen.

Perfect and nice bungalow next to the common lounge & kitchen house and a great pool, overlooking the vast lands. Just incredibly surprised by the excellent dinner and bf cooked for us and served outside... The staff was so nice, well informed about everything on the farm and kind. The place is a sunset and sunrise place. It could not have been nicer and better. I recommend to book these bungalows, it is with the additional 11km.... You will be surprised. Honestly nothing.

Auch die Ausflüge sind absolut empfehlenswert. Das Essen ist Spitze! Eine gewisse Person an der Rezeption könnte etwas freundlicher sein. Der Rest des Personals ist absolut liebenswürdig!

- Matthias (10/5): Ein Juwel nahe Windhuk- echtes Busch-Feeling - Durch Zufall haben wir diese Lodge gebucht, da wir unsere Tochter vom Flughafen abholen mussten. Niemals hätten wir eine solche idyllische Lodge zu diesem Preis erwartet. Wir bekamen sogar ein kostenloses Upgrade für in Zimmer nahe der Rezeption sehr freundlicher Empfang. Wir hatten am Game Drive teilgenommen und ich kann sagen wir haben bin 10 Minuten die komplette Palette afrikanischer Tiere gesehen. Diese Farben ist wunderschön, liegt direkt neben einem Fluss. Abends kommen die Tiere dort zum Trinken und nachts in den Busch. Ein wunderbarer Aufenthalt und wir kehrten gerne dorthin wieder zurück. Diese Lodge ist sehr zu empfehlen, wenn man ankommt oder kurz vor dem Rückflug bucht. Wir haben dort Leute getroffen, die sogar eine ganze Woche dort verbracht haben. Auch das können wir uns sehr gut vorstellen. Tolles Team und wunderschöne Natur.

- Benninger (9/5): Wunderschöne Farm mit vielseitigen Tierbeobachtungen - Wir hatten eine sehr schöne Zeit in Düsternbrook mit sehr interessanten Bekanntschaften, leckeren Essen und vielfältigen Tierbeobachtungen. Beim morgendlichen Ausritt haben wir Gnus, Impalas und Schakale ganz nah gesehen. Beim Gamedrive konnten wir von Gnus, Zebras, Impalas, Giraffen, Oryx, Sableantilopen, Eland, Warzenschweine, Rock Dassies, Salamander, Nashörner, Nilpferde und am Ende noch eine kleine Wildpferdherde so ziemlich alles sehen was das Reservat zu bieten hat. Man kann auch mehrere kleine Wanderungen rund um das Reservat machen oder zu einer Leopardenfütterung fahren. Die Pferde haben ein sehr gutes Leben auf der Farm und sind zum grössten Teil komplett frei im Reservat unterwegs. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Eine rundum gelungener Aufenthalt. Sehr zu empfehlen. Wir waren leider nur zwei Tage dort

Es gibt eine Reihe ausgewiesener Wanderwege. 90 minütiger Ausritt am Morgen: ich hatte Glück und war alleine mit den Guides unterwegs. Pferde werden gut versorgt. Alles gut.

- Bettina (5/5): - Das Frühstück sowie das Abendessen waren ganz hervorragend. Das Personal war sehr aufmerksam, jederzeit hilfsbereit und sehr sympathisch. Die Unterkünfte waren teilweise unzumutbar. Viel zu kleine Betten in manchen Chalets und vor allem sehr heruntergekommen. Das Preis- Leistungsverhältnis ist in Bezug auf die Unterbringung völlig unangemessen. Hier muss dringend investiert werden. Die Schauvorführung des armen, fast 20-jährigen Leoparden hat mit Forschungsarbeit nichts zu tun.
- Bernhard (7/5): Simple accommodation, ideal for walks in nature. - The location is away from the main road, allowing for a truly peaceful night's sleep. The menu and breakfast were very good and plentiful. The accommodations exude a family atmosphere. The riverside room is ideal for families, but very simply furnished. After the tour, we chose a room near the lodge.
- Katja (2/5): Nicht wieder! - Toilette war defekt. Dusche war defekt. So hatten wir uns den letzten Urlaubstag nicht vorgestellt. Schade, das Quartier war sehr ungepflegt und sah vernachlässigt aus. Die Empfehlungen in den Büchern können wir überhaupt nicht nachvollziehen. Essen war okay. Der Bereich um den Pool ist gepflegt, der Rest nicht ansprechend. Erst auf unsere Beschwerde hin kam uns der Besitzer entgegen! Aber bei unser Rundreise war es mit Abstand die schlechteste Unterkunft!

- Anke Hirschberg (10/5): - Tolle einsame Lage, 10 km vom Haupthaus entfernt steht diese wunderschöne kleine Anlage" point of View", tagsüber trotten ein paar Pferde vorbei, wunderbarer Pool, sehr leckeres Essen wird gekocht von einer Köchin vor Ort. Wir hatten das große Glück hier die einzigen Gäste zu sein. Der perfekte Ort um 4 Wochen Namibia ausklingen zu lassen❣️
- Carlotta (10/5): Wunderschön und wir kommen wieder - Wunderschönes Farm Haus, mit traumhafter Umgebung. Alle sehr zuvorkommend und das gemeinsame Abend Essen an einem Tisch war so toll! Man kommt mit jedem ins Gespräch und kann sich toll austauschen. Ein Ausritt mit Pia ist sehr lohnenswert, so kommt man noch näher an die Tiere in dr Umgebung. Unser Highlight waren die Hippos! Mit Google Maps nicht zu finden, aber wenn man weiß auf welche Straße man abbiegen muss, war es dann auch kein Problem.

- sarah (4/5): out in the wild - the breakfast was nice Of all 20 accomodation it was the lowest standard on our trip for a high price. I would not book it again & can not recommend it. You need a good car to cross three rivers, it's 30 minutes off road, the hut had three geckos that we caught before we went to bed. Cold showers, no internet for 2000 NAD not worth it.

- Monique (5/5): Stunning location, but expensive and falling into disrepair - The location is absolutely stunning and the vision of the property is fabulous. There was also quite a lot of wild game wandering around so that was super cool. The place is pretty rundown and deserted - definitely in need of some maintenance and care. Service was great when you could find someone. Food was not good at all and the most expensive we encountered in all of Namibia. The glamping tents are literally falling apart, and the campground facilities are scarce, clogged and smelly.

- Kerstin (10/5): Exceptional - That is an amazing place to stay. At Hippo Chalet 1 you are next to the Hippo Dam. It's just amazing. They have a large selection for breakfast. Its a wonderful landscape. Düsternbrook is a wonderful place to stay. They have a huge and clean swimming pool.

Staff very good and polite. A lovely wilderness retreat. Would return. From the website it is easy to think that the infinity pool is at the main farmhouse but its actually at a satellite location a number of km away. However the pool at the main farmhouse is lovely.

- Alfeus (6/5): Loved it, will go back, but with a larger group this time. - It’s not far from the Windhoek city but when your there it feels like it’s kilometers away from the city, which we loved. The property is fine, they just need to give their guests at least three meals (dinner) to choose from. Currently, guests eat whatever the chef is preparing. The breakfast is awesome with lots of options.

- Jennifer (10/5): - We stayed in a Double room (Point of View) at Düsternbrook and very much enjoyed the tranquility and the incredible view at the pool and our room & deck. The staff are all kind, helpful and happy to answer all questions. Whilst driving to the lodge we already spotted heaps of animals like giraffes, warthogs, all kind of birds, baboons, Kudus, springboks etc., so driving slowly pays off. Breakfast was delicious and the lady servicing us was an absolute gem. We’d come back for the room, view and the animals we saw, when driving through the park by ourselves.
- Leanne (5/5): Passable - Christian the guide that did the leopard and Hippo tour was great, the dinner was very pleasant and the young lady that served it was polite. Unfortunately that was all. On arrival we were met by a very unfriendly unhelpful receptionist, I think all she said was "your name?" and "you must pay $100 key deposit" we asked to go on leopard tour and book for dinner and asked where a toilet was. We were told we could use the toilet in our room and sent on our way, not told of any tours, what time or place dinner and breakfast was, not offered wifi or any information. We were unaware of the pool area until we tried to find dinner. After our leopard drive, which was good we asked reception where we went for dinner and were told "upstairs" we asked if we could have a drink at the bar before dinner she said yes, upstairs, the bar was closed, we were offered no alternative. Dinner was served in the main house and at 2 large shared tables with other guests, we were not comfortable with this at the start however we did meet some lovely people at dinner, they were also not happy about being seated at a shared table, once we both expressed our initial discomfort it was a pleasant evening. The room was comfortable but very old and tired and could do with some new linen and pillows. A good quality towel and some white quality linens would make a big difference. This is a property with so much potential but let down by it's reception and lack of passion and service. The bathroom was fine however a curtain that didn't fit the window and was see through meant you had no privacy. We had a fantastic experience in Namibia with a variety of different accommodations and camping sites, all were great, finishing our trip here was disappointing.

- John (10/5): Nice Old Farmhouse with comfortable rooms and excellent meals a short drive from Windhoek - Really nice facilities and comfortable rooms. Very good breakfast and dinner. Nice game drive that included local Hippos, Giraffes and many more animals. You can get there with a 2nd but I highly recommend a 4x4.

- Richard (7/5): Back to colonial German time - Mixed feelings - good food - extremely friendly and helpful staff - stunning location - house where diner was served felt like an museum, really something unique - cleanliness… dining room windows were very dirty for instance and also in the room the bed linnen was not 100% clean - interior of the room was outdated. This would be ok if it was in good condition. But it is not. Dressoir is damaged, matras is very old. And a plastic chair inside a room is a no go for me.

- Jannaa2 (9/5): Great animal viewing in a quite magical location - Stayed in the rustic Hippo Chalet 2 and were entertained for hours by a family of hippos just outside. Giraffes, warthogs, baboons, etc etc along the road into the property. The chalet itself was comfortable though understandably basic. Breakfast at the main house was excellent with a comprehensive selection. Google maps doesn’t think there is a route into the property because the road requires a couple of river crossings with no infrastructure. We had read advice from the property that a VW Polo with care would do it fine. Obviously this depends on river height so do check if you don’t have 4WD.

Enjoyed sitting at tables with other guests. Lovely hot shower in the chalet. Pillows were very uncomfortable in the Hippo Chalet :( Could perhaps provide a way of keeping things cold in the chalet. Even a cool box to put drinks in with ice.

- Ishii (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was good. Location-wise, and the view. Food especially freshly baked bread, fruit salad (this was one of the best I had in Namibia over the last three years) was superb. The variety of mammals on the premises was impressive. We saw more than 10 different species including a white rhino and many different species of birds We stayed at chalets near the dam and we were greeted by more than 20 giraffes walking near by. Some of us opted to sleep on the rooftop with our sleeping bags under a clear sky with shimmering milky way. Very pleasant and wish to repeat it again. As well as to walk more distances within the vast farm grounds. The receptionist did not warm us about the rivers we needed to cross to reach the farm grounds. One of our cars stuck in the first river and we had to call for a towing service to get it out. The farm charged one person one way 350 NAD for a ride to the farm. We also met with German tourists who came for a day trip in a taxi from Windhoek but encountered a similar problem (their taxi got stuck in the river) and the farm charged them the transport from that point to the farm as well. We joked about conspiracy. However all in all, including the adventure of trying to get the car out of the river, the entire experience was very exciting. We were in the wild nature so close to Windhoek. Thank you for a memorable stay.

- Isa (9/5): Soul-regenenarating weekend away! - BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL area, heard the river running the entire time we were there, so relaxing in the middle of nature! Staff was amazingly friendly and helpful, probably the best service that I have received ANYWHERE in Namibia. There was a mix-up with our booking between booking.com and the property, but the staff was SUPER helpful. The tent can do with a bit of upkeep.
- Willem (3/5): Poor - Leopard & hippo feedings were the highlights. Our interaction with the receptionist was not pleasant, although she wasn't rude, she explained nothing regarding activities, meal times, bar facilities etc...I had to ask these basic questions,which should have been explained to us upon arrival. Received pool towels with holes in it. Had to search for pool lounger cushions after enquiring from the receptionist & only got pointed in a general direction, I would have preferred someone at least show me where it was in the storeroom, I don't mind putting it on the lounger myself. Dinner - was not asked how we preferred our meat cooked, everyone received the same, well done! Extremely hot (beginning of Jan) and the starter was a hot butternut soup - no other option available. Desert - dry vanilla cake & ice cream. No thought went in preparing a suitable dinner menu which cost more than N$1000 for 3 pax. Guests were seated at the same table for meals, very akward to share meals with complete strangers - no option available to be seated at your own table. We spend almost N$5000 at the property for a one-night stay (accommodation, activity & dinner) & expected better attention to detail & basic hospitality fundamentals. Not a good experience & it is a shame because the property is in a beautiful location.

- Manuela (8/5): - In unserem Zimmer gab es leider keine Teller. Beim check-in erfuhren wir, dass unsere Unterkunft noch 11 km entfernt war, mit unserem kleinen VW nicht zu bewältigen. So waren wir gezwungen, einen Aufpreis zu zahlen, damit wir direkt hier bleiben konnten. Eine Info diesbezüglich wäre von Vorteil gewesen. Das Zimmer war sehr schön, nur der Fußboden staubig

- James (6/5): Could really use a good cleaning - It is the oldest private game preserve, and it shows. Wrinkled pictures in frames filled with dead bugs, the yard needs a serious clean. That being said the bar/dinner area is quite lovely. Game drive vehicles are ancient. (One hour drive is R450, which seems really steep). I stayed at one of the ‘chalets’. As basic as it gets. Choose between sweltering or being devoured by mosquitoes (how about a net?). These are about 3km from the reception along atrocious ‘roads’ and (maybe just me….) the handrawn map got me disturbingly lost.
