Guest Reviews
- Garry (4/5): - The staff was great. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The place is not very well maintained. Mosquitoes ripped me to shreds in the bathroom and bedroom. There were roaches in the bathroom at night. The bed was not very comfortable. Although the staff was great, I would not stay here again.
- Alphonso (2/5): Don’t do it !!!!! - That place look nasty and should not be on any site for rent cause u gone be so disappointed please shut it down or use it for a homeless shelter or some cause that made no since I had waist my money like that I wish I would have took photos but we got up out of there so fast
- Melvin (8/5): - Very quick check in and access in general. Rooms were perfectly fine, as were the beds.
- RODNEY LEE (10/5): - Great
- lucio (2/5): They never sent me the check in instructions. - Hostel H1 Miramar never sent me the information to check in. Before I made the reservation, I called them to ask them if I was going to be able to check in after 10:00 pm. They said "Yes, we will send you all the necessary instructions" When I made the reservation, I wrote them a note telling them that I was going to check in late and that I needed them to send me the instructions to do it. They also sent me a link to provide them with my information and picture ID. I filled it out. Unfortunately, I never got an email with the instructions for check in. I got to San Juan and I never got an email with the check in instructions. I DON'T recommend this hostel to anyone.
- Daniel (10/5): - Great location, only 10-2 mints away from main attractions!
- Diane (2/5): - I was there earlier this year and the place was fine. I had a similar private room on the main floor. Last time I had the room with a king size bed with a shared bathroom, this time when I was booking I saw that some of the rooms with a full/queen bed had a private bathroom so I opted for smaller bed with the hoping for private bathroom turns out none have that. The bedroom had only 1 working outlet & a light far from the bed (broken light on the wall and broken plug near bed). There was a window that faces the side yard and street with no curtains or shades. As a woman traveling alone, this is alarming. The bathroom was beyond filthy. Dirty water on the floor, filthy drenched towel sopping up some of the water, sink basin broken at the base and boosted up by pieces of stacked wood attached by nothing and ready to fall apart.
When I checked in I was pointed to my room the door was open. Then I realized I did not have the code for it so I went to the desk and asked and the guy announced it out loud as several male guests passed by. I also had to ask for the code to the front door too as I was stepping out to buy a few things. Why would they not write these codes on a piece of paper when you check in?
One doesn't have very high expectations when staying at a hostel hotel but this place has gone downhill unfortunately. I was scheduled to stay there five nights I stayed 1 night and barely slept because I was searching for somewhere else to stay & could not wait to leave.
- Xinia (10/5): - My stay was comfortable enough. I enjoyed the small yet sun-filled balcony.
- Richard (8/5): - I liked the location, WIFI, balcony, the peacefulness and the friendliness of the staff. No complaints.
- Frantisek (2/5): - Paid higer price for room with breakfast included - indicated on reservation confirmation - property refused to prepare it at all and did not dive us money spent for breakfast back till today
- Yavonne (4/5): - It was not clean
- McKenzie (8/5): - I had a great time here. Close to everything I wanted to see. A quick bus ride to old San Juan. Many great people to meet, an artsy neighborhood. It is not the cleanest place, but the cleanest spaces are usually stale in spirit. If you book here just understand that you’re getting what you pay for.
- Miguel (8/5): - Nice cool spot in the center of San Juan. Parked on the street and was close to many attractions in the city. Less than 15 mins away from Old San Juan, 10 mins away from kayaking/paddle boarding in Condado, 5 mins from Plaza las America’s (huge shopping mall). It was nice to meet folks from various places that were staying at the hostel and learn about their trip/adventure. The room had AC and it was in a quiet place but the bathroom could use a little TLC but like the saying goes, you get what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Place its a very nice place to stay on a budget its close to everything . Staff are pleasant.. Some stuff i see need to be fix like the bathroom but other than that its great place to stay.
- Ashley (2/5): - This hostel was not at all as described in the listing. The room we booked was nothing at all like what was there. The window did not close and latch. The room was the size of a closet. The bed did not have bedding. The whole place felt dirty. I’ve stayed in a lot of hostels and this is the worst I’ve ever seen. We did not stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - For the cost this place wasn’t bad. I wouldn’t recommend it for bringing your wife/gf but if you are a dude traveling by yourself for a few days as I was, then it’s ok. Super basic but it’s a bed, AC and available bathroom. Make sure you bring a laptop
- Verified traveler (2/5): - My plane arrived at 2am and I made them aware the day prior and the day of, I was told I would get a email with my check in information due to the office closing at 10pm, and they never sent it, myself nor Expedia couldn’t contact them so I had no where to stay on my first night the hotel only offered me points and Expedia said there nothing they could do to help me so I paid for 5 days and stayed for 4 days and didn’t get any type of refund I was only offered points to stay again and a invalid email address to attempt to reach the owner which I never did
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Miramar is a nice artistic and convenient neighborhood. Casa Miramar is a cool place, great staff, typical communal living shared kitchen and bathrooms. Everyone was very respectful and while they played good music during the day in the lobby area, it was very quiet at night not even street noise or cars going by. Good internet.
- Cheyenne (2/5): Bugs. - Horrible stay. Worst experience ever at a hostel. No breakfast as advertised and paid for. Bug issue forcing me to check out early. The room was dirty and had exposed electrical outlets and wires. When I asked the staff about breakfast I was told they don't have it because if they did they would be included. When I asked them about the bugs and the best type of bug spray I was told they didn't know because they weren't local. I was bit 9 times within 15 minutes of laying in bed. Filthy conditions.
- AliBabyyyyy (4/5): - I got a 4 person dorm for 4 nights & lucked up to no dorm mates until my last night! I had no idea that the dorm wasn’t gender specific so they definitely need to advertise that it’s mixed. Every night someone stole something that I placed in the fridge, they need cameras around so that when you ask what happened you can have some answers & the thief gets kicked out! The don’t give you a key to your room which makes absolutely no sense smh. The bathroom was small, no tub just a shower. Bring your own hand soap and toilet paper because they didn’t supply you with any. They advertised free dinner and there definitely wasn’t. Overall, I wouldn’t stay there again: 2 out of 10 stars (1 star for the close proximity to Walmart & 1 star for having A/C in the room).
- R (6/5): Cool ppl, nice vibes - I thought this hostel was okay, but not as good compared to their other hostel, Casa Santurce for me. I stayed in the other one for two nights and then switched to this one because a couple of guests told me it was better. I disagreed, and switched back after one night. When booking, it said “multiple bed” and didn’t specify how many. My room turned out to be a 10 bed mixed, same price as my 6 bed female only at the other spot. In the room, the sink was outside of the bathroom, which I found very inconvenient when wanting to prepare for the day early or coming in extra late without waking others up. No lockers in the room, my biggest issue was that once inside the main gate, the lounge/common area is inside but outside so ppl can smoke cigarettes there and I hate cigarette smoke so it wasn’t ideal for me. I loved that both of the locations offered dinner every night for the guests!! That was super cool and the couple of nights I had it, it was pretty good!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Service ok, belongings not safe - Overall it was fine. Free dinner a huge bonus. Building was nice with areas to relax. And staff was very friendly.
However, I had items of mine stolen from the dorm style room and was told maybe the housekeeping moved it. Then was told they didn't know what happened. I know it is a risk to leave things out in the open, which is why I used the lockers to lock up passport and camera. But I was very distraught to have a bag of simple items stolen. Not hostel's fault, but I will never stay at a hostel again.
- Iris (8/5): Recommend for backpackers - Great environment, nothing fancy but very friendly. Had no issues with the parking which is very important.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Ineptitude Knows No Bounds - Expecting much from a hostel is a bit of a travel faux pas; what, exactly, should one reasonably expect from accommodation the price of a dinner entrée? A functional emergency number would be a nice start. So, too, would be an accessible staff to let one in the front door. While some may deem a solid, non-leaking ceiling a bit of a luxury item, the absence of solid streams of water flowing from plaster might be a nice touch. If one can detect the passive aggression coursing through this review by now, they’ll comprehend that the Hostel H1 Miramar has gone 0/3 on all these counts and struck out. What they might not comprehend is just how much I would’ve rather bought an entrée. So go ahead, splurge on dinner; I would’ve been more contented to have slept on the sidewalk.
- Kapil (4/5): Falling apart condition - I have stayed at multiple hostels across the world. I am well awarevof the hostel living and setvmy expectations right. But this particular hostel was in a bad condition. The building is falling apart. Doors were rotten, bedsheets and covers were not washed maybe for a decade. There was nice all night until 4:30am so You won’t be sleeping. If you want to party all night then you are fine. Staff was good thats the only plus.
- Susan (8/5): - Lacked some cleanliness...especially kitchens and bathrooms.
- Nia (4/5): - The patio was nice and the young lady from Italy who checked us in was friendly. The room was a joke and the amenities were sub par for what we paid. We were hoping for a free breakfast as advertised when we reserved but the management had changed apparently and this was no longer available. Be advised when booking. The sheets were the wrong size and kept coming up from the mattress. The walls had a window and was right in the middle of the commons area so I wouldn’t actually call it a private room. The shower smelled awful not sure if its bad pipes, or clogged drains but I was surprised by how bad the smell was. They made you pay for towels and pay for water too. And then they charged us more for taxes when we arrived that weren’t included in the price, supposedly. Just really bad service and amenities on part of the management. We were paying half the price in an air bnb and I wish we would have stayed there.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Everything! Checked in and OUT the same day. BUNK BEDS WAS NOT FOR ME. THIS HOSTEL WAS MEANT FOR YOUNGER GENERATION NOT A SIXTY YEAR OLD INDIVIDUAL.
- Michael (6/5): - The rooms are good and the AC is good. Dinner served for free at night is cool, they organize outings to parties every night. The bathrooms need lots of work in terms of the amenities and cleanliness. Location of the hostel is fine -Close to Condado-.
- Marissa (8/5): - The staff and atmosphere was very welcoming. Had lots of fun at night with everyone, and they always had great recommendations. The facility could use some upgrading, but for the price you really can’t ask for more. Thank you, Elena, Eric, Luis, Jhan & Ashley for a great trip.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I liked the location of the property, t could use some remodeling
- Gabriel (2/5): - We had a delayed flight so we arrived at the hotel past midnight and no one opened up for us. We had to book a completely different hotel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - did not check in, due to hotels living conditions, terrible.
- rus (10/5): - the staff honestly made everything much better. they were friendly and you could see they really enjoyed what they do.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location, in walking distance to the beach. amazing staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was my first time staying at a hostel hotel it was an experience I’ll never forget because the staff treated as if I was family. That is against as if I was there person to stand for one night but as a member of the group who went out on a different activity status it was five star treatment that I’ll never forget thank you
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The ambience was amazing the people, the staff amazing as well never stayed at a Histrl before definitely recommend after my stay here
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This is an older hostel. But the staff makes up for the actual rooms, which are bare minimum. After all it is a hostel, I am just looking for a place to sleep overnight. The staffs are friendly and every night they cook dinner together and then go out as a group.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property was within walking distance of Condado Beach.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff are pretty nice, kudos to Carlos for the fantastic breakfast, to the handsome man working the reception before Carlos for his excellent recommendation for lunch, El Camarón. It was delicious.
The place will benefit tremendously with some deep cleaning. My bed was clean but under the bed, no so much. Yet, I will stay there again.
- Eglis (8/5): Tiny but friendly - Although the place is not a 4 Star room, the staff and service was fabulous. The people that I met there were absolutely fantastic and fun to be with. But the best part of it all was the price, very inexpensive. I will visit again.
- RY (6/5): - cleaness is a big issue, so is the shared bathroom. staff is friendly, but doesnt speak very good english.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hosts were so nice! Social yet professional. Everything was clean and laid back. I’ll defini be back. I made friends here!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was ok I really wanted to stay with my family so I wasnt trying to stay
- Luis (10/5): - H1 is an awesome place to stay while in Puerto Rico! Well located, great amenities, really cool staff! Carlos Villarreal, the guy from Venezuela, is an awesome dude! He’s always willing to help with whatever you need! Great and clean rooms! This is my second time visiting H1 and the place keeps getting better every time! Good job guys!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very friendly helpful staff, solid place, tasty food trucks nearby.
- DJ (8/5): - Not the cleanest place ive ever stayed, but well worth the price.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Nice & simple, the staff is awesome!!
- Verified traveler (2/5): There was no hotel!!!! - I showed up and there was no one there. No way to get in. No answer on the phone. Orbitz u need to update ur contacts and information. I want my money back!!!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - showed up late, after hours, but staff was still helpful and accomodating.
