Guest Reviews
- James (8/5): - Nice lace, good value, comfy room and great internet.
- Damaine (8/5): Snugged away - This is my second time at this hotel. The location is in Zona Colonial but snugged away into a quite corner. This is an older building but modern conveniences. I am happy to return.
- Donna (8/5): Great location In colonial Santo Domingo - Walking distance to all of the colonial historical sites and great restaurants.
- James D (10/5): Portes SD July 2017 - Three nights, not luxurious but good value.
- mjh (10/5): Perfect location in the colonial zone - Hotel Portes 9 is a delightful boutique hotel. The evening desk clerk, Marvin, connected us with a tour guide, enabling us to have a delightful, informative tour of Santo Domingo. Walking the entire colonial zone from Portes 9 is easy. Its a safe neighborhood and Portes 9 is located on a beautiful, small plaza. The room was spacious. Breakfast was amazing consisting of eggs cooked to order (omelet or fried) with fresh fruit. Immerse yourself in the Santo Domingo culture and stay at Hotel Portes 9.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Reasonable - It was a small but nice place. Close enough to walk over the beautiful Santo Domingo.
- Luis (10/5): Excellent location, excellent hospitality. - Excellent location , excellent service. The manager and her personnel are very professional.
- sc (4/5): Terrible hotel don't stay here - When my husband and I first arrived they tell us that we can't use the AC because they were fixing something with the light. So that was very aggravating since it was so hot. Then around 7pm the lights go completely off, we had to run outside to see what was wrong and they us the same story. Breakfast was terrible they served moffins and cereal and that's about it. Would not stay here even for free.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Old town Santo Domingo - Hotel in a great position. Good wifi, good shower, clean, helpful staff, good size room. Only downside was bed was hard. But overall very nice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice Hotel - Nice Hotel near all the Rest and and Bars in Zona Colonial
- Frank (10/5): Best value in Santo Domingo - This hotel is small but very clean and well appointed. The rooms and hotel are tastefully decorated. The water is hot and the AC is cold. It is in the safest and most interesting part of Santo Domingo. You can always count on a comfortable and safe stay here.
- Nelly (6/5): Nice and simple, perfect location - very friendly staff, very good breakfast.
We stayed in room number 1 which was just up the stairs. You could hear everything from the front desk, or the rooms nearby...every time someone is opening or closing a door. The room was fine, quite old, but clean.
Bed wasn't very comfortable. There was one hanger in the closet. I asked for more, but never got any.
Front desk people were helpful, helped planning the day. Definitely worth the price.
- Peter (10/5): Intimate, perfect location, friendly staff. - The Hotel Portes is a small hotel in a quiet corner of the Colonial Zone. It fronts
a small park, and, because it is not directly on the street, has no through-traffic
which makes it quiet. It feels a little bit removed from the main tourist area, even
though it is just three blocks from the main Cathedral and the Parque Colon; the
location is really terrific.
I found the staff extremely friendly and helpful. It helps to speak some Spanish,
of course. Breakfast is cooked to order, which is nice; I asked for, and received,
extra towels; wifi was strong and consistent. In short, it is a really solid place
to stay.
If you do stay there, please keep your expectations reasonable; the Dominican
Republic is still a Third-World country, so if you want the Hilton, go there instead.
My room safe was not big enough to fit my laptop; the electricity failed twice during
my stay; my shower had only hot (!) water, no cold; my toilet did not always refill so
I flushed it with a bucket of water; the bathroom door did not fit the opening so
privacy would have been impossible.
If little annoyances like these are going to wreck your day, choose another hotel.
But if you like the idea of a quiet little gem, perfectly located and staffed with
friendly people, give this one a try.
- Nga (8/5): - Has good air condition in the room and the bed was comfortable in a quiet location, very central to walking distance in Colonial area with great restaurants.
- Victoria (8/5): - check in was easy. shower and bathroom are tiny-- requires some flexibility to get things done. nice roof top patio with jacuzzi.
- Connie (6/5): I wouldn't stay again - The included breakfast is good. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants, art galleries and the Zona Colonial. Our room needed repairs. The wood trim entering the bathroom was disconnected. The curtains and rods fell down when I tried to open the curtains. We never had enough towels and had to ask for more all three nights. The facility is clean.
- Arturo (8/5): Boutique Hotel in Zona Colonial - Nice little boutique hotel in the heart of Zona Colonial. Close to everything (bars, restaurants, sites). They have around 8 rooms. All different in size but with private bathroom, A/C, safe and minibar. WI FI service in all property. The staff personnel is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is eggs (sunny side, scramble or omelet) with ham and chesses. Cereals, coffee, juice and a plate of local fruits. The room is well illuminated (at least #6) and very spacious. The bed is comfortable.
- beverly (8/5): Great hotel, dicey area - The hotel itself was a good value. I traveled as a single female to Santo Domingo, and I would not recommend staying in this are. I did not feel entirely safe outside of the hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very noisy and could not sleep. - The hotel's location is within walking distance from the main zona colonial attraction. Our driver could not find it and it took us a while driving around to find the hotel. The room itself was nice and spacious but we did not get any sleep due to the noise from outside. It is so noisy with people drinking outside that it is impossible to get any sleep at all. The staff was friendly. It is a cute hotel if you do not intend on sleeping much.
- Rey (4/5): Cold Water Ritz - I choose this hotel based on reviews and on price. Even though I paid for four nights I left after spending one night. As I enter my senior years I want a shower with warm water. I know it is the tropics. So What. I also expect the shower to drain. How much is a can of draino?
The staff was friendly. The breakfast was good. The location was not bad for the historical district. Still, I would recommend spending a little more for a better hotel.
This hotel is best for young people and European tourists. The only body odor I unfortunately encountered was not from the locals.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Excellent hotel for goid value - I only stayed one night which made the small size of the room doable. The hotel was wonderful. Friendly, professional and welcoming staff.
The bathroom was quite small and there was space to put a table or shelves to provide space for toiletry bag.
- Rémi (10/5): Great hotel, very fair price - Great staff, very nice and helpful.
The location is excellent: not too close from the main square (which makes it very quiet), but close enough to get there in 2 minutes.
The roof is a very enjoyable place to relax and enjoy the sun!
Breakfast was very good as well, and the coffee was memorable!
- Matthew (8/5): Perfect location and great staff - Perfect location, great breakfast, helpful staff. We went in somewhat blind, booking from the US, but we were really happy with our choice. Great value for the $.
- Ana (10/5): Nice cute like home stay. - This is my second time in this house. It is really nice to be in a place where you feel like home...Employees are so nice and are always please to serve you all the time.. Rosa, the manager is wonderful. The breakfast is keep the same every time I go very good. IF I recomend to change something, it would be the bed which is so hard but most people like that but I have problem sleeping on a hard bed..so That would be my only complain about the hotel everything else is perfect for me.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location is great. Value for money. It still can improve on the cleanliness part.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cosy small family hotel - Nice reception, friendly personell.
Good breakfast.
Airco,
Price reasonable, not realtime cheap!
Location is good.
A lot is omwalling distance.
- Nicole (8/5): Hidden Treasure - I arrived very early so my room was not ready. I was invited to have coffee/tea. Shortly after I was lead to my room. More spacious than I could have imagined. You could tell that they were all very different just by the layout. Everythign felt personal. Even down to breakfast. Eggs cooked to order how you wanted with a selection of muffins and your choice of fruit that they would cut fresh. There is a cat which I an scared of but he was nice and did not move around like he was on a hunt. Warning, they do close the front door at night so you have to bang to get inside but that let me know that you were safe once you were in for the night.
- Frank (8/5): Best value in santo Domingo - Hotel Is charming and clean in safe area. Everything works well.
- Frank (8/5): Pleasant enough stay - A good value overall for santo Domingo. Most of the staff are great. The night guy can be off putting and acts like an over zealous cop. Sometimes bordering on rude. Kristian, Rosa and the girls are great.
- Victor (8/5): Nice Hotel in the Old City - The hotel is beautiful, all in the hotel it is restored, is colonial and you breakfast it's great
- Erick (10/5): Excellent - Incredible small hotel perfectly located in the heart of the old city
- Frank (10/5): My favorite hotel - I am a world traveler.I have stayed in very fancy hotels and flop house here in Santo Domingo and this hotel is my favorite. The quality and standard is very high and the price is fair. The people are lovely. The location is very safe and close to the zona colonial without being in your face. The rooms are well appointed and very clean. No hidden charges like many other hotels on Agoda in SD. Stay here it's the best.
- Verified traveler (2/5): I couldn't even stay at the hotel, no where to par - Terrible experience! I called the hotel with enough time to express that I was going to have a late check in and arriving around 7:00pm, when we got there there was no parking and the streets where absolutely full of cars, I spent 2 hrs driving around and could not find a parking, I found a parking 1 mile away from the hotel and there was no way in hell I was going to walk with my luggage 1 mile, I called the hotel to express my discomfort and to tell them I was going to have to cancel my reservation and reserve somewhere else, they tell me Expedia might charge me even if I cancel to call Expedia to avoid fees, I call Expedia and tells me that hotel might charge me, I then told rep that I spoke to the hotel and they told me that it's Expedia that will charge, agent then tells me ok no worries Sr we will call the hotel and sort things out for you. The hotel then calls me back which I inform Expedia will be reaching you shortly to short out my issue, i then book the night with another hotel which was triple the price but was worth its price... guess what the next day I get charged for the room for this hotel!!! This is the worst experience.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Was a beautiful, the staff everything was perfect.
- Valentina (10/5): friendly and cozy - clean, good and economical stay
- Valentina (10/5): Convenient and clean hotel - Quant little place, well maintained and very friendly staff with great breakfast and economical. Located in tourist desired historic Zona Colonial all in walking distance.
- Dolores (10/5): - The hotel is very nice and cozy, the staff made us feel part of a family. Breakfast was fantastic and the love they put on it is what made me fall in love with the place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The room was in excellent conditions. Very clean. Everyone was very polite.
- Ray (8/5): Nice small hotel, close to everything - Small boutique hotel in nice, safe location. Very helpful staff with decent facilities. Quiet comfortable room (#6) with king bed, premium cable TV with many English channels, refrigerator, good AC. Lots of closet space. Small bathroom but good water pressure in shower. No pool but rooftop jacuzzi and outdoor lounge area. Great breakfast with eggs, omelets, muffins, juices, and delicious fruit plates. WiFi in room worked perfectly.
Hotel is a converted colonial house so lots of steps, no elevator. There is a 24-hour front desk. This is not a luxurious hotel, but it is safe, clean and comfortable. Finally, although personable, only a few staff members speak passable English, so be warned. (Not a problem for me since I speak Spanish.)
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very nice hotel close to everything - Nice hotel, close to everything and the staff was very helpful
- traveler (10/5): no complain - can't complain with this price of the room, location friendly staffs, not too bad internet
- Ignacio (4/5): Disappointed - There is nothing really wrong with this hotel, just my disappointment about what they are showing in pics and what's really in person. Not even front view of the hotel are the same, rooms are very distant from what I got. I suspect they selected certain rooms for Travelocity prices and keep the good ones for walk in reservations. Breakfast was fenomenal great. Location is good for a history explorer. I cancelled my second night and was well treated by Travelocity based on my fair allegations.
- Fleur (10/5): Quiet hotel in Colonial Santo Domingo - We stayed for two nights in this cosy hotel. The hotel is not big, and the staff is very friendly, attentive and helpful. Therefore we found that is felt much more personal than when we would have stayed in a big hotel. It was absolutely charming. The building is old, but we'll maintained. The rooms are modernized but with the charm of an old house.
When we arrived I recognized a bottle of the DR's drink called Mamajuana. When I pointed at it, the receptionist poured us a glass, on the house. She didn't speak English very well, we speak Spanish very bad, but together we were able to figure out what we needed, and she helped us very well. Her sweet giggles made our stay even more pleasant. There is a very sweet house cat. I am allergic to cats, but I didn't feel a thing, so the place must be very clean. We would definitely return here if we had the chance.
- David an Elena (10/5): NICE AND QUIET HOTEL IN THE COLONIAL ZONE...!!!! - Portes 9 is a small Hotel close to the most important historic monuments in the Colonial Zone.
Portes 9 It's like secret gem hidden in the historic area of Santo Domingo. the staff are pleasant but not to intrusive.
When you wake up in the morning Ana Norka and her staff are waiting to serve your breakfast which consist of eggs any way you like them fresh coffee and fruit. cereal muffins and fresh juice are also on the menu. Ana Norka has a very sweet personality who will engage in conversation and has a very vibrant personality. she is also very accommodating. I felt very safe in this area and it was very conveniently close to everything. we would definitely consider staying at portes 9 on our next trip.
- Alex (4/5): NO FREE PARKING NO INTERNET IN THE ROOM :( - I chose this hotel because it said free parking when I arrive I had to pay for parking else where very disappointed. also NO internet in the room I had to go in the hot lobby to use it for few minutes very disappointed too I will never give there info. to my family of friends to stay here NO MATTER WHAT :(
- Tab (10/5): Very comfortable - I really enjoyed my stay here. Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was also good. It's a calm environment and the hotel is close to most historical landmarks. There weren't any rodent problems when we were there, however there are water bugs that creep onto sidewalks at night. Overall a great experience.
- Gloria (10/5): Nice hotel, pleasant staff, close to all - Excellent experience, would stay there again. Staff very accommodating and pleasant.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Really liked it - It felt very safe and secure. Like every hotel in the area, they do not have parking. They had a wonderful, free breakfast. The air worked great, it was clean and comfortable.
- Kelly Joy (8/5): A really unique hotel located in the Zona Colonial - Really enjoyed stay here. Was a little tricky getting to the hotel as there is a square in front of it (no drive), but once we found it - really nice. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Walking distance to Plaza de Espana where there are nice restaurants. The terrace (rooftop) is great. Grab some snacks and a bottle of wine and you'll enjoy yourself.
- lawrence k (8/5): good location in the colonial area - I would term this as more of a guest house than a hotel; but the place was very decent and clean considering its from the colonial era. Location is great and is close to several restaurants and sights.
Overall a great place to stay with a friendly and homely touch...
- prgirl (6/5): If you have a car don't stay here - Hotel doesn't have parking so we had to park on the street and had mirror covers stolen. The suggest a parking lot nearby but you have to get the car out by 6:30am. Staff was friendly, ceiling fan in room was dusty, bed was really hard, bathroom could use a remodel, air conditioning worked well. They only gave us two water bottles the first day, second and third day, nothing. Breakfast was good. Would not go back.
- antonio (8/5): fantastic place!! - good location and great service, nice and cozy, loved it, i would definetely stay again!!
- Ralph W (4/5): Good location, good breakfast, bad everything else - Honestly, we picked this place due to the mostly positive reviews, but were severely disappointed. Service was appalling--on the first day, we asked a staff member how to use the safe, and then asked how to use the TV, and he replied with "I can't explain to you EVERYTHING." Things only got worse from there--cleaning staff didn't bother to replace toiletries and didn't give us a trash bag in the bathroom trashcan (oh yeah, there's a sign that tells you not to flush toilet paper down the toilet). Also, air conditioning didn't work very well, and no telephone in the room. Really, we are not demanding travelers, but this place was truly a severe disappointment, and we would not recommend it at all.
That said, on the plus side, breakfast was tasty, wifi worked fine, and it is located near many of the tourist points of interest. The 2 stars we are giving this place is still on the generous side, however.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel in a great location - The staff was very kind and polite.
The location is perfect to walk to the major tourist places.
- ashok (4/5): Bad - It is worn out hotel, with no parking. My car mirrors were stolen because I had to park next street. Faucet shakes. Staff is wonderful, very friendly. Other than staff, nothing is good.
- AMOS H (10/5): Clean, Charming and Friendly - This is a small, clean hotel. the staff was very friendly, struggled with our lack of spanish , but also have very fluent english speakers to make life easier. It is not a fancy place , but it is charming. Was a wonderful base for steeping ourselves in history
- Sor milani (10/5): Great location and customer service. - We had a great time Andjy was great he oversees expectations.
- Fabian (8/5): Solo getaway in Santo Domingo! ! - When I arrived at the Hotel Portes 9, I was surprised by how clean and how comfortable the rooms were. Breakfast was provided each morning which was delicious. I enjoyed the moment I checked in with Andjy who was very polite and so helpful, to having my room ready at an early time. The location is perfect for eating, shopping and it was blocks away from Old Town. I suggest that all stay here if and when I come back, I sure will.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Enjoyed enough. Nothing to complain. I actually needed a desk in the room, but they didn't have. I found a desk outside the room, and did work. But there are some mosquitos!
- Amanda (10/5): Convenient, comfortable, and affordable - Helpful receptionist, good breakfast, great view from the top floor, comfortable room with AC, and friendly housecat
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel was nice and safe/secure. The staff was not very talkative, but polite, and the breakfast was good.
- Ana (10/5): excellent hotel and service. - I would rate this hotel a 5 star because their service and very nice front desk personnel very helpful..The most things I enjoyed was my room and the morning breakfast included in your stay is more than continental that other expensive hotel don't offer for free. I really enjoy my stay and you feel like your home. I would come back for sure in the future...It is worth it for the money you pay.. A lot of place near to visit and shopping..very entertaining..They make shows at Colon Park about 3 blocks aways from the hotel and a lot of different restaurants.
- Sly Francis (10/5): A hidden gem - extremely satisfied, this hotel is a bargain for a botique hotel. the staff is very responsive and the rooms are very nice. breakfast is very good although I would enjoy a Dominican breakfast
- glenn (10/5): - 3 blocks from zona colonial and main drag.excellent restaurants safe area .employees of hotel very friendly.will recommend to my friends.
- Carlos (10/5): Great hotel at a great location. - This is the best Hotel for it's price in Santo Domingo. Great location at Zona Colonial, nice rooms with fully functional Wi-Fi and A/C, good breakfast and exceptional staff. Victor was very helpful and accommodating. I will definitely come back to Portes 9.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great deal - This hotel is a great deal. It is walkable to a lot of restaurants, sites, and shops. The room is spacious with a comfy bed but not perfect (for example, the shower door didn't close properly). The neighborhood is fine. I would definitely stay here again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): In the heart of the Conde area. - Centrally located this is a nice hotel for a short stay. Overall the hotel was very nice. The only problem is the TV reception was poor. You might ask why this is a problem on vacation, but the walls are thin and you can hear every noise. The TV is good to have to create the illusion of more privacy.
- rasec (10/5): Good hotel - Excelent location , very Good breakfast, friendly staff , is kind of old but in very Good condition
- Christine (10/5): Best kept secret - My husband and I stayed in Santo Domingo for the one night. We arrived late at night so the place is a little hard to find - it's around the corner at the end of the street Calle Las Damas. Zona Colonial is an amazing place. It will take you back to the time of explorers and pirates - 1500's.
Breakfast was included in the very amazing low price. Just the breakfast itself was worth all the money paid. It was the best meal we had all day.
- Mary (8/5): Colonial Zone Hotel - Hotel is located on a pedestrian walkway in the Colonial Zone, making it nice and quiet. Comfortable beds and furnishings. Air conditioning works very well. There are safes in the rooms. Bathrooms are ample.
Jacuzzi was very relaxing and the view from the terrace is beautiful. Breakfast is included in the price, consisting of fresh fruit, fresh juice, muffins, eggs with ham and cheese, toast and jam, cold cereal, coffee and tea.
Overall maintenance and cleanliness is excellent and setting is lovely.
This hotel doesn't have an elevator. Stayed 3 nights and loved this hotel. The only negative was that it is difficult to find because the sign is on the pedestrian walkway, not the street.
- Petra (10/5): In the center of culture - Just one night stay, but wil for shure go back, perfect location
and safe in the old City !
- Sebastian (10/5): Great location and Great Service - The hotel was peaceful, lovely and charming. Just a few blocks away from many historical landmarks, restaurants and bars. It is a great place to stay if in town for a few days and want to be near the action but not in it. You may have to get lucky with parking, but we didn't have a problem. The Best part of the hotel is the service. They were very helpful and attentive. Breakfast was cooked to order and delicious.
- Miguel (4/5): Stay somewhere else... - The gentleman at the front desk when I arrived was the only highlight of my stay. He was friendly, and helpful.
The bathroom always smelled like raw sewage, and flushed very slowly. I complained about this every day, and it was never fixed. Every day I would come back to my room and the whole room smelled like raw sewage.
The TV didn't work. It's there, but with no channels. The bed is tiny. The location is so far off from everything else that locals don't even know where the hotel is. The barrio is awesome, but there are countless other hotels to stay at in the area.
Very bad policy- if you bring a girl up to your room, they automatically assume it's a hooker, and they take her ID. This can be very embarrassing if it's not a hooker, and once you make friends (which I did) this policy just gets more uncomfortable.
I did not like staying at this hotel at all. The entry is invasive. It's like a small house where the guests are your brothers and sisters, and everybody can hear at any given time everything that's going on in the hotel. This is not a 2 or 3 star hotel. It is more like a 1 star with internet access.
The breakfast was ok, but no reason to stay here. Just trust me... this hotel sucks. Stay somewhere else!
- Debbie (10/5): The very best boutique hotel! - Hotel Portes 9 is a wonderful boutique hotel in the colonial ciudad. The staff is outstanding, very friendly and caring. Included is a wonderful breakfast with the best coffee. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We arrived very late, 3:00am in the morning and someone was up to let us in and carry two big suitcases up the stairs. We had been traveling for 18 hours so it was nice to get to bed and rest. The room also had air conditioning, a safe, water bottles for us, and comfortable pillows. I was told they will have a jacuzzi on the rooftop terrace next week. The hotel is also walking distance to all you want to see in the colonial ciudad.
- Alessandra (10/5): - Nice and cosy hotel right in the the Colonial City. Best location possible for touring the city and enjoying night life in Santo Domingo. The staff was very friendly, specially Norca. They would assist us with any matters during our stay. I definitely recommend it!
- Dane (10/5): Surprisingly Fantastic - The Hotel staff was incredibly friendly and the whole stay went surprisingly well. We expected a continental breakfast and couldn't believe the staff cooks breakfast for all guests everyday. The eggs and fruit platter was fantastic and I would stay here again in a heart-beat.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Convenient location, nice breakfast - Well located in Zona Colonial. Staff are very nice, but it helps to know Spanish. Excellent breakfast including eggs and fruit.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This was a nice hotel, close to the colonial and stores within walking distance to many stores. Staff friendly and helpful breakfast excellent made to order . Air conditioner worked but shut off at intervals . I recommend to others.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - No issues, staff was friendly, good breakfast, nice neighborhood, close to a lot of things.
- Jim (8/5): Nice hotel "in" the colonial zone - My first trip to the DR, was looking to stay in an area in or near colonial zone....this hotel was the one I chose, found it to be a quaint hotel....different from the traditional, each room unique with all the modern amenities; quite area, beside a park, walking into the heart of colonial area.....lots to see and do in close proximity.
Initially finding it was a little difficult as it is not on a street....this is a good thing, walk out the front door basically into a small park...
The staff were very friendly, my only unfavorable remark would be that there is no hot tub as shown in the pics...which was really a let down because after the long bus trip I was looking forward to relaxing in it...and there is a question as to whether the water is actually free or not, still trying to figure that one out.
I would most definitely recommend the hotel, good deal for the price you pay.....and the breakfast is better than
most restaurants you would eat at.....way beyond the traditional continental....eggs made to order, toast, sausage, ham, cheese, fruit platter with 8 varieties of fruit delivered to you/your table....plus muffins, cake, cereal, juice, coffee, tea.... exceptional!
- Dale (6/5): Second Round - still good - Well please read my previous review - I stayed for 2 nights then when out of town and came back for 4 nights
While not more than a 3 star level it is comfortable and convenient I would certainly stay here again
- Dale (6/5): Nice Quite Cozy Spot - This is a solid 3 start hotel located in the south east corner of the colonial zone (old town). The place is in good condition but not up to 4 or 5 star quality.
It is easy to get to and from
Very quiet corner of the town (very important as other hotels have cars / bars / noise right next door or on the street.
The room was small but comfortable with both a nice fan and a good air conditioner
The employees are great
Breakfast which is included is eggs, toast, fruit, coffee, juice, cereal, pastries - which while good never changes -
There is a colmado (spelling??) across the street which has water, beer, sodas, alcohol, tissues, cough drops, razors etc the little things we forgot to pack.
2 blocks away in the main plaza is a pharmacy
- CGM (8/5): Cute Hotel - It was good, the staff is Very friendly and helpful.
- Charlene (10/5): Excellent choice! - Excellent choice in Santo Domingo. It's just a couple blocks from the heart of the Colonial Zone with all the historical sights and great restaurants. It's in a restored older building, nicely done. And a fabulous breakfast is included. The only disadvantage is that there are a lot of steps to climb, but at least there are good railings to hold on to.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean and cozy! - Clean and nice hotel in the middle of Zona Colonial. All the cathedrals and forts are within walking distance from the hotel. There are quite a few restaurants near hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): great location and very nice room - It was a little difficult to find since a lot of the roads are one way and there was some road construction going on in the Colonial Zone. However, we were very pleased with our room. The only problem we had was the AC unit wasn't working 100%, but with the fan, we were ok for the night. Easy to walk to all the sites and it felt very safe in this hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Pleasant hotel in the heart of Santo Domingo - Clean comfortable rooms, very nice staff. Good part of town that is very walkable to the sights. Great breakfast included. For the price, location, and amenities, this is a great deal.
- Christian (10/5): Wonderful small hotel with great breakfast...... - Great small hotel for a 2 day visit to the colonial zone of Santo Domingo.
A perfect safe location on a park with no traffic on the street. Two short blocks from the center and the best restaurants. No need to stay anywhere else unless you have to have 5 stars. The breakfast they serve that comes with the room was the best we had on the entire trip....
- Verified traveler (8/5): It's in a good area - This is a great place for a couple, not single individual's. Breakfast is the best.
- Jake (10/5): Great value, clean, cozy, pleasant. - I had a very pleasant three nights here, the hotel is clean and comfortable, the staff were all very friendly and the free breakfast each morning was delicious. The hotel is located on a quiet street in the Colonial area (was a little difficult to find for our taxi driver but wasnt a big deal as the locals were all very helpful in pointing us in the right direction). Its very close to great bars, restaurants and historic sites.
- Antonella (8/5): Beautiful and convenient - We had a wonderful time. The hotel is in a great location , quiet and very well tended. Staff was very helpful and friendly . I definitely recommend it .
- Raymond (10/5): Colonial, DR - I've been to a few hotels in the colonial section of Santo Domingo and for me this one is the best. Insofar as the price, the cleansiness, and the service I haven't been to one better. My mistake is I had a rental car and being that there really is no parking except for the streets you're subjected to vandalism. There is a lot which one can park at for a couple of 100 pesos. I found this out after havig both side view mirrors ripped off.
- saran (10/5): Lovely hotel in a great location - We stayed here for 3 nights last week and thought it was a lovely hotel. The staff were very friendly and helped us with anything we needed. The room was clean and pleasantly furnished and the building is characterful. The breakfast was great especially the large fruit plate. It's located in a pedestrianised area, 2 mins from the cathedral and old fort so everything is in walking distance. Only downsides are that the roof terrace is a little tired, and both the fan and air-con are really loud so I found it difficult to sleep with either on.
- Taryn (8/5): Great Stay in Zona Colonial - This was a super cute boutique hotel. Perfect for staying one night in Santo Domingo. The staff was helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was included and delicious.
- Michael (10/5): Great hotel - The hotel is located in the southeast corner of the Zonal Colonial. It could be renamed Hotel on the Southernmost Corner of the Old City. Knowing that makes it easier to find. There is a small park out in front with trees and benches, and a colmado right next to that where you can buy anything you need at fair prices. The hotel is also about two blocks from the Cathedral and the Conde pedestrian mall. Location is great, yet this hotel is very QUIET and cozy. The people working the desks gave extraordinary and friendly service. Anytime I asked questions about the neighborhood and things to do, I got very informative and thoughtful answers. Fantastic people working there. The room was clean and cozy, and had a safe. Bed comfy. Breakfast good, and the price was great. By far, best of the three small hotels I stayed in in the DR. If I went back to Santo Domingo, I would choose this hotel, for sure.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel hot tub wasnt available for me to used , the breakfast was but it would better if was a buffet for me to have multiple choices I feel like I ate the same breakfast every day , but overhaul it's not bad hotel to stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice, clean, and safe - very cute, close to historic sites. Staff was very pleasant, the breakfast was good and filling.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A very nice hotel in a great location, close to everything. good breakfast and friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice little hotel with friendly staff - Nice little hotel in the heart of the Zona Colonial. Very convenient to restaurants and touristy spots. Staff was very helpful and breakfast was excellent. Room could be bigger/more comfortable by US standards, but this isn't the US. I will note that the parking is really just street parking, but seemed safe enough and it was easy to get a spot. There is also an awesome cat that hangs out around the hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): You cannot find a more pleasant, helpful staff. - Portes 9 does not have all the amenities of a more expensive hotel, but it more than makes up for it with its wonderful staff.
