Guest Reviews
- Darren (10/5): - For £70 we wasn’t expecting much but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, very friendly atmosphere met some lovely people the room was small but it did the job and breakfast was in with the £70 which you could not fault it was lovely and the landlord was friendly to, so yes a great place to stay
- Dennis (8/5): - Nice pub,food was very good.
- John (6/5): Ok stay - Some noise from downstairs and not ensuite . Comfy bed
- Colin Paul (8/5): - Very enjoyable stay again staff very friendly and helpful breakfast very enjoyable and food too
- Colin Paul (6/5): - close to work commitments
- Steven (8/5): - Quirky!
Low ceilings, uneven floors, very old building.
Landlord is friendly, as are the staff. Good breakfasts! Live music some evenings. Enjoyed the stay. Very convenient for visiting my mum!
- lynn (8/5): - Beautiful old pub with comfortable, clean accommodation and friendly staff.
Food was very basic, no fruit for breakfast, or even fruit juice but did do full english.
Location was beautiful.
- william (10/5): - The building dates from the late 18th century, so mind your head when you enter! Room was very comfortable, and the service from the staff was very good.
- James (10/5): - Very comfortable mattress... Friendly staff and locals.
- Stephen (8/5): A real character inn - It's a lovely place - the location in Broughton village is perfect. It's an old building, some wonky floors, low ceilings - it has character and i loved it.
Full English breakfast was high quality and all the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
There is plenty of parking
- Mari Ann (2/5): - The booking said that it includes free breakfast but on the day they said that they cant serve breakfast for us…
- P (10/5): A lovely, welcomong place to stay - We absolutely enjoyed our stay. The staff were absolutely lovely and welcoming (Thanks Cathy & your husband). The room was quaint but just fine, the bed was comfortable and we slept well. And the food was great.
- Colin Paul (8/5): - Very enjoyable stay close to work commitment, staff vey friendly & food very good (cooked breakfast vey good)
- m (10/5): Charming cosy pub - Charming village location when I booked I thought we were in st Ives town but glad we were in Houghton as did a lovely circular walk to st Ives from here. Full of character this pub was cosy and welcoming. Great breakfast too.
- Angela (8/5): - Very clean, warm and the shower was good. Staff friendly and welcoming. Served a good breakfast.
- William (10/5): - Lovely warm welcome. Reasonably priced bar. Great setting. Historic ambience. Would definitely like to stay again.
- Jason (6/5): Average Hotel - The Young Barmaid and her Sister were Pleasant too talk too and Friendly. The Room was Clean and they provide you with Toiletries and Bathtowel. The Breakfast was Ok,Not a lot too choose from. The Owners did not Speak Much. The Little Village was Pleasant.
- Liz (6/5): Basic accomodation - My stay was OK. The room was comfortable and the breakfast I had was decent. They were only able to provide breakfast on one morning but refunded some money to compensate. The place is dated with uneven floors which may be an issue for some people. The decor and furniture are well used but clean.
Ok for an odd night stay in a pretty village but nothing special.
- Alison (8/5): Lovely quirky pub - The pub is situated in the heart of the village.
Leanne was really helpful and was really good interacting with eveyone.
Breakfast was nicely cooked.
Would happily stay again
- Paul (8/5): Quaint property - Charming property. Very quaint. All rooms have sloping ceilings and little windows. Difficult to sleep in the heat. The team are very attentive and welcoming.
- Olivia (2/5): - The property hadn’t been cleaned we got but we couldn’t stand up in room staff was rude requesting a refund
- Ian (6/5): - Booking in was fine shown to room, room and bathroom does need attention, Not really a suite , but large room with double bed and a single in it. sloping roofs made for uncomfortable experience and cramped bathroom . Breakfast excellent, no food on night due to private function
- Barry (8/5): Overnight stay with dogs - We were visiting family and we have two dogs, the location was perfect and the pub was old, quirky but ideal for our purposes. It was clean and comfortable, breakfast was good and our host couldn't do enough to make sure we had everything we needed. We did take our own dog cage so that the dogs did not get on the bed, which I think is courteous The bell in the square outside was a bit annoying as it chimed every hour.
- Sam (6/5): - Nice pub, booked in sat evening at 1900, meals closed at 1930, went to a pub down the road for a meal great night, room nice, shower didnt work, and the bar shut at 21.00, so we took a drink to our room, the picture on expedia web site isnt the picture of the pub which is a bit misleading
- Julie (8/5): Good location quaint property - Although all staff very friendly our room was not made up when we arrived. Also be aware a private bathroom does not mean en-suite as it was a short walk walk past another room which had en-suite. Meant to be private but can’t leave items in there just in case.also other guests walk past it.
- Nicholas (6/5): - Friendly staff, good breakfast, comfortable bed. Room was in eaves of pub, cramped bathroom space for taller people (I am 6' 4"). Shower didn't work.
- Ian (8/5): - Nice pub. Good menu and drinks. Quiet.
- Willem (8/5): ruime voldoende - Oudere accomodatie met veel trapjes.
kleine lage doucheruimte
vriendelijk bediening en goed ontbijt.
iets te prijzig voor het gebodene.
- Deborah (2/5): - Don’t stay here. Host unfriendly and the worst breakfast ever
- Stephen (10/5): - Our experience was great. Landlord and Landlady were very accommodating towards my wife’s food allergy and ran a friendly bar.
For the critics (mostly on other sites) – yes it is old, which I would call character and uniqueness, and in keeping with the countryside area that it is situated in.
We will be back.
- Vivien (10/5): - We loved the breakfast! English ...the full works with extra toast
The room was cosy and full of character. We'd stay there again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely old village pub with quaint but comfortable accomodation and helpful staff. Breakfast is great and overall very good value for money.
- Lisa (6/5): Disappointed with lack of communication - Site showed check in at 5 p.m. We arrived at 12:30 on Tuesday hoping to leave our luggage and walk around village or sit in their pub until check in time. Unfortunately, we got there and everything was locked up! We walked across road to a store and found out they don't open u til 5 on Mondays and Tuesdays!! We tried calling but received no answer. We had to drag our luggage down the road and sit in another pub until we finally got a hold of someone. Had to wait until 3 then had to drag everything back to the inn. Very disappointed that they didn't reach out to us to advise us on this! Rooms are very tiny and the bed was too hard.
- Peter (6/5): - The evening meal was very poor but breakfast a lot better.
The room was heated until just after 11 pm but did not reheat until 7.30 am. The bedding was just about adequate but of lower quality.
Service and hospitality was very good.
- Tony (10/5): Loverly friendly traditional pub 😁 - Stayed there on business for 3 nights, found the staff very welcoming and friendly, the facilities and room were very good considering the price, good parking facilities, very nice breakfast and ate there each night in the bar, locals very friendly and had a great time, I’m booking up again on my next trip,
- Diane (8/5): Pleasant overnight stay - Very cosy and friendly. Love this place as they welcome dogs and it’s a great location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A quaint pub in a picturesque village with comfortable bars and a restaurant with a decent selection. The room was comfortable, warm and clean, with all the facilities you would expect (tv, toiletries, hairdryer etc). You have to remember the age of the building - so some floors aren't quite level, some ceilings are low, and some of the doors have low lintels - but it all adds to the general ambiance and quirkiness. The breakfast was superb - full English with tea and toast, and the hosts were helpful and friendly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Helpful and friendly staff. A top cooked breakfast, no filter/ cafetière coffee, but generous pot of tea. Quaint and characterful accommodation. Tall people may find the bathroom facilities a challenge, but it was not an issue for us. Evening meal was tasty, red wine very drinkable. The property is well located for exploring the lovely Hemingfords and St Ives. Very good value for money.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pleasant stay - Quirky room with low ceilings and bathroom along the corridor (private though). Clock in the square chimes every hour! Host was very pleasant and breakfast good. Cannot comment on the evening meal as they had stopped serving by the time we got back. Pleasant stay and ideal location for what we needed.
- Alison (8/5): houghton village pub - a very quaint beddroom with seperate but exclusive use of bathroom. Sloping ceiling and beams. lovely breakfast
Village is very quiet
- Alan (8/5): - Good experience, excellent food, comfortable room and friendly hosts
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovey, local, traditional English pub in a beautiful, friendly village complete with thatched cottages and a national trust owned mill for fabulous walks. Was just me and my dog on our way to a show but I was given such a friendly welcome and had a very pleasant evening eating a lovely meal in the bar.
- Quanita (8/5): - Nice clean room not very good if you r tall as sloping roof and walls and floors but it’s was comfy and clean. Breakfast was good
- Andrew (10/5): Superb - Allthough disabled we were made very welcome. The food is superb and we slept well helping me prepare for operation the following day
- Stephen (2/5): Watch out for extra costs - Booked and paid for a family triple room, 1 double bed and 1 single bed. When we arrived, myself and work colleague, had to pay more, to get the single bed made up, it was a joke. Owner said, we had only paid for the double bed cos there were only 2 of us, 2 blokes at that, it was ridiculous.. Room was very small, also, to say it was a family room. Breakfast was good but would not return.
- Michael (10/5): Houghton - Great place. Friendly staff and a great village for walks and scenery. Local bus into Cambridge along the fascinating Busway.
- Kelly (8/5): Country pub - Very quaint old pub. Comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was lovely. If you're tall these rooms are not for you. If you want to eat there book a table or they'll send he chef home early.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very old character property but still with all the facilities you need , but would like more choice on breakfast eg yogurt fresh fruit
- Barbie (6/5): Ok for single occupancy - Queues at the bar to get served or to book in.
Only one mug in double room, only one bath towel, one hand towel and one bathrobe which was needed as bathroom down the corridor.
Sloping Ceiling in bedroom a problem as constantly hitting head. As were the stairs.
Good outdoor entertainment facilities.
Food was delicious.
- William (10/5): Great place to stay. - Last minute booking, great service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We were extremely well looked after and made welcome.
- Zoe (10/5): - The hotel was very nice & clean the staff welcoming & helpful we'd really enjoyed our stay only problem low ceilings but other than that would really recommend it
- ALISON (8/5): - Quant village B&B, due to being very old, very small and very low ceilings so beware if tall, however, staff were pleasant, room was comfortable, breakfast was delicious (10/10)
- Michael (8/5): - Friendly staff, great landlady and lively debate in bar. Would definitely stay here again. Breakfast was superb!!
- Kevin (8/5): Friendly village pub with a couple of bedrooms. - Two rooms available at a village pub, friendly staff, good selection of real ales, good food in the restaurant. My bedroom and nearby private bathroom were spotlessly clean. mind your head when you go down the stairs, I am not tall and gave my head abit of a clatter prior to checking out.
- Mrs K N (8/5): - Adequate accommodation in village pub. Friendly people. Adequate breakfast. Large room and comfortable bed.
- terry (8/5): Huntington - Such a warm welcome from staff and locals, as soon as I got there. Quiet and peaceful.
- Sharon (10/5): Lovely welcoming stay - Really welcoming atmosphere when I arrived. My room was up two little flights of narrow stairs, in the attic, but was lovely and spacious. Nice roomy ensuite, and roomy shower. It could be awkward for any tall people, due to the sloping roof, but there are advantages to being short!
Very comfortable, and the food in the bar downstairs was delicious, with a lovely filling breakfast the following morning. Would definitely stay again. Just beware of the creaking floor for any light sleepers!
- stuart (8/5): - very nice stay with lovely room and breakfast
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very Quirky old pub. Rustic with squeaky floors.
Nice village.
- Ricky (6/5): Fire escape? - Comfortable accommodation albeit cramped attic style. No means of escape in the event of fire other than the only staircase. No fire doors evident!!??
- Lyn (10/5): Lovely old pub in a small village. - From the check-in with the Landlord, to the room with tea making facilities, hairdryer and bathrobe, to the comfy bed and the breakfast the next morning with the landlady it was a very positive experience,
The bathroom is not en suite but it's an old building and it was a few steps away and not shared.
I would stay here again
- Liz (10/5): Quaint English village B&B - Our stay at the Three Horseshoes Inn was fantastic. The building is filled with character and the staff were incredibly welcoming, and cooked up a great breakfast each morning. It makes a great base for exploring nearby villages with its proximity to the Ouse Valley Way and other walking paths. We would definitely stay here again if we're in the area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Hidden gem - Really enjoyed our stay at the three horseshoes. We were staying the night to visit friends in the local area. The owner gave us a friendly greeting and the pub is located in a charming quiet village within easy drive of Huntingdon and historic St Ives. Room and bed was a perfect size for an overnight stay and had a clean and modern interior. We could come and go as we pleased and we slept really well as there was no noise at night (either from the village or the pub/restaurant below). Breakfast was really good and checkout was easy. We would stay here again and highly recommend to anyone passing through Cambridgeshire.
- artyk (6/5): Friendly service with full breakfast, budget b&b - When we arrived the booking was mixed up, we are a couple but the booking seemed only booked for one person ! The host seemed annoyed as 2 of us arrived, blamed expedia - which it probably was. We had to pay extra, but they didn't tell us this just charged it when we left.
We were walked up a few narrow stairs to the top loft room with low head height no good for tall people. The room & bed was fine and comfortable. Everything was clean with plenty of tea, coffee & towels.
The shower stopped working at 7am so we couldn't have a shower and we had a long day ahead so that was not good. Maybe the cold weather affected the pipes.
We were offered a full English breakfast with tea & coffee, a touch oily but nice.
The hosts were very friendly & welcoming in this old cottage style public house, this place is more of a budget stopover but fine for this price.
- TREVOR (6/5): - The Bathroom was not in the Bedroom which when they advertised it as partly open Bathroom I thought.. no door or panelled off you had to walk down a hallway so for that reason I will never stay there again.
- Martin (10/5): Business trip - A lovely, quaint hotel situated in a scenic village
- Michael (8/5): - Room was rather cramped but the mattress was one of the most comfortable ever experienced; lovely duvet and cover gave us a good nights sleep. Dinner menu adequate pub fare; superb breakfast ccoked to order. Owners friendly and obliging. Would stay again.
- Gaynl (8/5): Cozy English Inn
- My stay was limited by committments. I only had time to sleep and eat a wonderful proper English breakfast. The room was comfortable. The bathroom was well done and clean. It was quiet. I loved the tea and bathrobe in the room. It would be a great place for a family. Wish I had the time to eat dinner and walk around the charming old square and down to the river.
- Steve Hayman (8/5): A lovely pub and B & B - A lovely B & B in a village pub. The owners were very friendly, the rooms very clean and the food of an excellent quality.
- Sally (8/5): affordable alternative to Cambridge - A charming location and pub/hotel. Checked in at the bar then carried our bags upstairs via the windy corridor to our room with ensuite. Enjoyed the pint and game of dominoes downstairs before calling it a night. Breakfast was to order taken the night before and served hot. Checkout easy and quick.
- Phil (2/5): Not greatest start ! - The main gripe was after arranging a breakfast time the cook didn't arrive until I had to depart for work and when it was explained I had to leave for work the cook got snooty and said. "I got up to cook for you". Even though she was 15 minutes late just getting there. The meal would have been the cooking time on top of that. Very poor attitude, not even an apology just attitude at my having to leave. A half day shift then had to be completed on an empty stomach. Oh and this was my very first day at work 200 miles from home. Not greatest start.
- keith (8/5): Great breakfast :-) - stayed one night, and spent a total of 8 hours in the room - did the job
- Edna (10/5): Worth a visit and can recommend. - Small and friendly B&B in a very old pub that is over 300 years old. Worth a stay. Good range of food and real beers. As my visit was just an overnight stay after a long drive, heading up to Lincoln, I did not see much of the area, but St Ives nearby is worth a visit. Pleasant room, comfortable bed. Room had a sloping ceiling - could be a problem if very tall. (but that is just a comment) as the room was spacious. Easy place to find, parking good. Enjoyed my short stay and would recommend, especially if you like staying in old buildings. Thank you.
- Lawrence (8/5): 3 horseshoes stopover - Needs a stopover a few hours from Kent en toute from Edinburgh. Hotel fitted the bill and I will use it again.
- Jonathan (10/5): Lovley overnight stay - Lovely stay at the Three Horseshoes inn, stayed in the en-suite room which was spacious and well appointed the beds were comfortable, the whole place was spotlessly clean and staff were great, the breakfast was very good quality and we even got offered seconds.
Only minor downside the shower heat control was set at scorching and did not seem to respond to the controls.
- Graeme (10/5): Good value - Nice old hotel in a nice village. Lovely breakfast and very reasonable price. Staff were very good.
