Guest Reviews
- Peter (6/5): - The place is ok. But the staff were difficult to find if at all
And although it does say on the web-site after paying £400 you have to pay £10 per day for parking. Which I think is a bit cheeky
- Loulia (10/5): - Luxurious and cosy at the same time! Very close to the city center and not far from the airport, so very easy to get around either by bus (very efficient ones) or walking. The bathroom is magnificent, very comfy bed, great breakfast, it was perfect. Really great value too!
- Julie (10/5): - The property was clean. Room was clean and updated. Staff was very friendly!
- Sandra (6/5): - On a noisy road. Room just too small. Parking expensive.
- Bonnie (2/5): Worse Hotel in Edinburgh - The hotel was poorly maintained, mattresses were very soft, carpet smelled like mold which has lead to sinus infections for both my husband & me.
There is not ventilation system, so the humidity from the shower was not captured.
The location is on a major bus route with the bus stop for all bus right outside the building.
Expensive room rate not reflected in the accommodation. Worse than a Motel 6 could ever be!
- Carol (8/5): A quiet room and a good night sleep - The bedroom and shower room were very clean. The water pressure in the shower was variable right down to a trickle at times. The lighting in the corridors was too low for safety. Breakfast was tasty, waiter was pleasant but felt he was new to the job.
- Lewis (6/5): - The only issue was lack of staff to answer questions and assist. There was no way to get drinks other than walk down the street. I know that's being picky but you get what you pay for. Other than that, the price was fair for the stay and location.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Meh - No service hotel. No one at check in or check out. No housekeeping stay over service (don’t mind that, but they should let you know.). Quiet and clean. Not much going on around that area of town. Convenient airport access via 100 bus.
- Collette (6/5): - Parking is not free- £10 daily charge. Staff very friendly , room very comfortable. Good choice for breakfast menu but very small portion scrambled eggs/ mushrooms served as part of cooked breakfast. Shops within easy walking distance
- Ashley (8/5): - Room was very small even by European standards but clean. Within a half hour walking distance to many things. Edinburgh Castle was about 20 min walk away. Front desk is rarely manned if you need anything like towels or a water refill. Though staff we did encounter were pleasant. I left a souvenir bag in reception with over $100 of stuff in it and they saved it behind the counter for me. That was a huge relief!!
- Thomas (8/5): Edinburgh trip - Was surprised to find owners were only 2 days old and not previously experienced in running a hotel.
- Mabel (10/5): Great stay! - I had a great stay. Looking forward to stay there again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Easy to get to and from for watching the Women's Six Nations rugby or to go to the city centre, with car park in front. Superb building, with great bathroom and great service. A most pleasant stay, thank you very much.
- Paul (10/5): - Very clean and quiet
- Diane (10/5): Great stay - Despite some of the reviews, we had the room with 1 double bed and 2 single beds. Plenty of storage what you need for a weekend away, beds were comfortable and clean and breakfast was lovely. Taxi was only £4 to princess street if you didnt want to walk. Overall was brilliant and would stay again.
- George (8/5): Not Great - I never saw anyone from the lodge during our entire three night stay! No one at the front desk. No one from house cleaning. No one!
That said, our room was adequate. The walls were a bit thin but not terrible. The location was not ideal. Still we enjoyed our stay. I’m just not sure I would stay there again.
- Chris (10/5): Great - Really night hotel clean and comfortable staff very friendly would recommend this hotel to family and friends
- Jemma (10/5): - lovely hotel & room. will stay again
- Heather (10/5): - Very friendly staff
Immaculate room
- Amanda (8/5): - Very comfortable and clean hotel. On our second morning the hot water was not very hot so perhaps it can't cope when everyone is up at the same time! The free parking was most welcome. Breakfast was good too. It's only a 30 minute walk to the centre of Edinburgh so nice and convenient.
- Stephen (6/5): - Good location for us to central Edinburgh
- Brian (8/5): - The hotel was very clean, easy to access and get parked.
- Roger (8/5): - Loved the location, 5 minute walk to the tram and was very happy with the layout
- R (8/5): Nice place to stay - Once you find the B&B, which is a trick in itself as finding numbers on the road is nof the easiest . But once found its s nice place to stay and within relativly easy walk of the center. Rooms were not big but nicely finished and ckean. I would use the place again
- Bjorn (10/5): Nice and friendly hotel - The hotel staff was very friendly. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Walking distance into city center.
- Roman (10/5): - Amazing stay with very accommodating staff who assisted me with tips about places to visit and also stored my luggage briefly upon discharge. The room was very clean, modern and spacious. The place itself is relatively close to the city centre with easy access to the bus.
- Emma (8/5): Okay - We booked the quadruple room, although the room was clean, there was a smell of damp in there, not to sure if that room gets used often. Also we weren’t able to open the windows. Beds were comfortable. The room was freezing when we arrived but once I had WhatsApped the number that was provided, the heating was sorted. The keys were left on the reception desk when we arrived and there was no one there to welcome us or manning reception.
- Simon (8/5): - Clean and tidy, 25min walk into Edinburgh old town. Good breakfast £12 per person. Would stay here again
- Nikoleta (10/5): Exceptional Breakfast - Everyone was very friendly and helpful! Our room was spotless, modern and very cosy. The location of the hotel is excellent- just 10 min walk from Haymarket. The highlight of our stay was the delicious breakfast in the morning. Probably the best scottish breakfast I've ever had!
- Sui (10/5): - There's everything you need. Priscilla is very friendly and a good host.
- Paula (8/5): - excellent price and 1 mile from Edinburgh centre
- Yaseen (10/5): - The owner was really nice, and the room was very clean. The room theme was nice.
- Stuart (8/5): Size Doesn't Matter - A great little hotel - very conveniently located near Edinburgh Zoo with free parking on site, all at a reasonable price - surely a rarity in Edinburgh! Our triple room was clean and well appointed although we did get a bit of noise from the room next door through the wall. I would usually choose a bigger hotel for city stays, but this was a very pleasant alternative to the big chains, which did the job well for a one-night stay and was good value for money.
- Karl (10/5): Excellent hotel in a great location. 5 star. - Excellent service, we can't tell you enough how great the room was, the bathroom was excellent and super clean. Check in excellent and helpful management. Baby cot was excellent and set up on arrival. Thank you.
- Karen (10/5): Great family stay, superb place. - Family room, very well furnished, clean, spacious and very up to date facilities, comfy beds. 1mile flat walk into Edinburgh. Staff very helpful & hardworking. Hotel building well kept & clean throughout.
- Alex (8/5): Good location, well decorated. - Self service check in. Never saw a single member of staff.
Room was very well decorated. The room was humid & the windows were in poor condition.
Breakfast ended earlier than we were able to be ready for, so didn’t make it.
- Michael (8/5): Review - Staff great, room comfortable
- Donna (8/5): Great place to stay - Lovely lady and easy process of accessing room without contact. Room was great but drawback is thin walls to next room. Breakfast was nice but not really worth the money and no toast offered on second day. All in all lovely stay with free parking and not far from the centre of Edinburgh.
- Michael (8/5): Overnight stay in Edinburgh - Great location for being just outside the bussle.
One day and night in the capital was brilliant.
- Ruth (10/5): Would definitely recommend - Loved The Edinburgh Lodge! Great location, 30 mins walk or so from city centre. Nice room with comfy bed and plenty of easily accessible sockets/charging points. Got the feeling that a lot of thought had gone into providing what guests need (plenty of useful maps available). Although our room wasn't serviced due to COVID (we were made aware of this ahead of time), replacement toiletries and towels were available on request. Bathroom was spacious and had opening window and powerful shower.
- Toni (8/5): - The location was perfect, the room a little on the small size but was very clean. There was free parking at the hotel, the car park spaces a little tight if you have a big car.
- paul (10/5): - Room was perfect clean tidy and comfortable with a great shower.
- Fay (2/5): - AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! Sheets were rough and bobbly, flat sheet had crumbs in it so they just made the bed they didn’t change the sheets between occupants! When I asked for a change of sheets the man came to the room and asked to see when we pointed this out he argued “so what?!” When I said I can’t sleep in someone else’s filth he responded “so what?!” When I told him we saw bed bugs and a flee he said “so what?! What you want? Refund and cancel?! Good because we don’t want you to stay here!” Absolutely terrible hygiene and an even worse service.
Also at our 10 minutes there a Junkie almost gained entry to the building as no staff on site if it weren’t for my husband stopping her to ask if she was staying there and of so where her key was! She didn’t know how to lie fast enough and went on her way! Shocking!!
Felt like I was paying 5* rates for a homeless shelter. Photos are clearly of the place when it was first opened with no updates to what it currently looks like.
Please avoid if you want to enjoy your night and not leave with bed bugs hitching a ride home with you.
- JKim (10/5): - My partner and I had a lovely stay at The Edinburgh Lodge! Highly recommend as it’s so close to town / hay market with free parking! What can you ask more when you’re visiting Edinburgh :) we will be back!
- Laura (10/5): Bargain!! - Great value for a really lovely modern room with Netflix and all things you need (lotions, hairdryer, and nice toiletries)
- John (8/5): NC500 stop off - Excellent stop off in Edinburgh. Great breakfast. Would stay again.
- Ka Wing (10/5): Nice view and spacious little hotel - Excellent hotel, spacious, clean and with good view. The staffs are super friendly and considerate, will definite recommend to anyone coming to Edinbergh.
- Mcleish (6/5): - Contactless introduction to hotel, getting key via intercom on a key safe system which I’m assuming was down to Covid 19.
- Lauren (10/5): - Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 2 nights. The lodge was perfect, the onsite parking saved us a fortune in parking costs in the city. They have adjusted things slightly for covid so the staff weren’t there the entire time but at check in they let us know that we could message any time. It was still very welcoming and a great stay. Would definitely recommend.
- Peter (8/5): Very pleasant stay - Very pleasant stay - nice rooms.
Nobody on the premises, though - it seemed.
- Darren (10/5): Edinburgh Lodge - The hotel is located in the Haymarket area and within walking distance of the city centre and attractions. With a small amount of onsite parking and easy to find the hotel is in super condition with very modern interior decoration and very comfortable rooms and amenities. The staff were pleasant and friendly.
- Garry (8/5): - Convenient location, friendly staff and nice clean room.
- Adrienne (10/5): - The only thing I’d like to talk about is that the sound proof doesn’t seem to work well as we can hear guests from other room. Other than that it was a pleasant stay!
- lynn (6/5): - Absolutely overpriced, marked up significantly for Hogmanay. Bathroom was tiny but the space was used really well, all appeared to be new fittings, great shower, bathroom mirror was lit from behind, excellent for applying make up. The bedroom itself was small with a double bed which was so soft my partner and I lay on it and rolled I to the middle, not great. It was clean but the bedding was old, had bobble over it from long time use. Pillows were soft and comfortable.
Well situated for access to city centre, walking distance to princess street. Nice enough place to stay, not sure what the normal price is, but over $400 for one night. Not worth it!
- Michael (10/5): - Nice hotel within walking distance of Edinburgh's attractions clean and comfortable with friendly staff
- Hannah (4/5): No heating! - It all started off really well. I’d rang earlier in the week to check a couple of things and the person I spoke to was so helpful and I was really pleased with the service. When we arrived we were able to check in straight away. The woman on the front desk was lovely and I couldn’t fault her at all. However, when we got to our room it was really cold. There was a heater in the corner and the heating wasn’t on which made me think it might be broken. As we were going straight out I didn’t think too much of it and we went off into Edinburgh centre. When we got back later in the afternoon the room was really cold. We tried the shower and we couldn’t even use it because it wouldn’t get warm. I rang the number and the person I spoke to said to try it again in an hour as she was sending someone out. We couldn’t get a shower before we went out for our evening meal. When we got back in later that night the heating still wasn’t on and the room was really cold, even with the heater on in the corner. We were able to get a warmish shower in the morning but the heating didn’t work all weekend which made the stay really quite uncomfortable. Which is a real shame as everything else was really good but when you can’t get out of bed because it’s so cold in the room it kind of spoils your stay.
- Natasha (6/5): Average - Location was good - not too far to walk from tram/haymarket station & bus stop right outside.
Service was average, not overly welcoming and reception desk barely managed.
Room was cold - radiator not working so a small heater was placed in the room (this was not discussed with us on arrival) - heater was not adequate.
Sheet was stained so had to get that changed apparently they use a third party laundry company but they should have noticed when making the bed that the sheet was stained
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Only a half hour walk from Edinburgh city center so ideal for me and my partner. Well kept property and friendly staff whenever we saw them.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cute Place, Great Prices - Overall the place was good, especially for the price. The room was neat and tidy and a gorgeous redone bathroom. The location was ideal with bus stops right outside. The only complaint I have is lack of someone working reception. When we got back to the hotel one night around 7 they were already gone and we had to check out early when no one would be there either. So we just left a note and the key, but I was definitely worried about doing it that way. Otherwise great place to stay.
- Tracy (8/5): Nice friendly clean hotel - Stayed here 2 nights Friday n sat arrived after 6 so didn’t meet staff left keys for us in deposit box we had room 15 n 16 15 was exactly like pics 16 wasn’t old furniture n not as nice but did what you needed rooms are very clean have tea n coffee and bottled water all your little extras in bathroom as well in case u forget yours nice and warm for this time of year had to get up during night to turn radiator off so hot met staff next day nice n friendly didn’t go for breakfast so can’t comment was £9.95 as well we all went out for breakfast long walks Edinburgh is a beautiful city loads to see and do would recommend this hotel it’s about 25 min walk into town but can get bus outside overall nice clean friendly hotel
- Brenda (10/5): Sons 30 th Birthday weekend - It was lovely . Very clean , comfy beds, good shower. It was also quiet for Edinburgh no traffic noise in room 👍😁
- Matthew (10/5): - Best hotel we stayed in over a week of traveling around Scotland and England. The room was beautifully decorated and luxuriously comfortable; and VERY reasonably priced!! Highly recommend it!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean, comfortable and affordable rooms! Convenient check in process and the essential amenities were provided
- Heather (2/5): Avoid: Terrible experience - Avoid room 12 at all cost. Bed had pubic hairs in it. Sheets very rough.
Bath room had black mould.
Damp.
Photo of bathroom completely different from the ones in the website. No comparison
- John (10/5): Perfect Accommodation - Receptionist was very welcoming & helpful. Room was very clean & bathroom impeccable. Had a great sleep bed was comfortable, pillows were immense not cheap soft ones.
For breakfast I had the full Scottish which was hot & tasty.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff/owners incredibly helpful. Nothing not to like
- Pat (10/5): - Beautiful BnB in great location, good size bedroom & fabulous new bathroom. Staff very attentive & helpful. Only thing was the lumpy pillows. Would highly recommend! Thank you
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The walls are thin and one night we listened to our neighbors TV till he/she decided to go to sleep. The staff was very friendly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Modern and upto date, very clean and staff very helpful. Only downside was Room 2 was quite small and bed tucked into a small space but that’s the layout of the hotel and so can’t complain really. Was a quick stop and go stay but met our expectations. Thank You.
- Andrew (10/5): Nice place - Really great place
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Was put in a small ground floor room with blocked window. The mattress was horrible! Slept terribly! The only good thing was the bathroom! Can’t understand how this is a four star listing!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The twin room was very spacious and clean. The bathroom was updated and modern. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The only thing I wasn't aware of is that the staff are only on site between 9am-6pm. The breakfast, which was not served until 9am, was good but nothing extraordinary.
- Jenn (10/5): Great Edinburgh location - Loved the location and we needed the parking. The service was super helpful and helped us figure out umbrellas and bus schedules. The TV worked and it was quiet - which we now appreciate! The breakfast set up is great too.
- walter (10/5): Our Stay - Amazing
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely warm welcome. Helpful. Room lovely. Bed very comfortable. Amazing bathroom. Towels, toiletries good quality. Highly recommended
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a beautiful old house that has been renovated nicely maintaining the old charm in the public places and the room updated to today modern standards
- Cameron (10/5): - Quiet yet on a major road. The staff were incredibly hospitable and checked to ensure that we were settled. The car park is a little tight but we had hired an SUV which we were inexperienced with in driving. The only minor thing, it is minor, but the tv often pixellated which meant we couldn't watch tv at night after a day's sightseeing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean, neat and modern! We checked in easily and didn't really need anything while we were there, They allowed me to choose my room.
- Lorraine (10/5): Ideal location... - Perfect if you want to be close to Murrayfield and still within walking distance of Haymarket too, really friendly staff, would definitely stay here again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room and hotel were nice and located close to the city transportation hub.
- juliet (10/5): - A brilliant find. Friendly staff. Very clean, lovely room
- Verified traveler (10/5): - all very good! handy car park and near bus stop
thank-you
- Gary (10/5): Surprised Birthday visit - Daughters birthday surprise. She was staying at a different hotel which turned out to be opposite the Edinburgh Lodge Hotel.
Hotel well located & easy to find with good car parking. Very good comfortable bed room finished to high standard. Good WiFi
Well located for access to the city which is easily walk able or if you prefer by public trabnsport.
Welcoming staff and good value cooked breakfast
- baileypeter (6/5): - Fine hotel for what we needed. Just stayed one night when circling back to Edinburgh with an early flight the next morning. Best part was the price. Great price for clean, comfortable room with parking.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable hotel close to centre. - Had a great time, very convenient, no fuss.
Not a great deal more to add
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Accommodation available at short notice. Host that greeted us was friendly and efficient at checking us in, even helped carry one of our suitcases to the room which was appreciated. Quiet location despite being on a main road.
- Rick (10/5): - Great location, very close to bus stop which made it easy to go to and from Edinburgh city center every day. Also walking distance from Haymarket Station. Staff was very helpful
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We just had a quick overnight stay, but it was clean and very pleasant.
- Donna (10/5): - Service, cleanliness & room size were all outstanding!
- Michael (8/5): Nice accommodation - Nice old building that has been restored, rooms are very comfortable
- Travis (8/5): - Didnt know that the staff left at 6pm/1800. Other than that, i enjoued our stay
- caroline (8/5): Lovely hotel - Very clean and beds were comfortable. Staff really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ok but a bit tasteless and not very hot. But all in all definitely stay again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff here we're wonderfully welcoming, helpful, and pleasant. They heard that my wife and I were on our honeymoon and gifted us a fabulous bottle of champagne. The rooms were clean and spacious, and the view from our room was spectacular. The dinners they serve were excellent too. Overall this was an excellent place to stay!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cozy atmosphere. Quiet. Relaxing. Close proximity to the historic old city center.
- KENNETH (10/5): Lovely place - It was too short but we loved it!
- Sara (10/5): - Beautifully restored historical house with a super helpful owner! Bus stop at the front door to get into Edinburgh town center or to the airport. Excellent full Scottish breakfast. Even the haggis was good! Highly recommend!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Convenient, clean, interesting architectural details, tight but available parking. Very nice and friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): easy travel from hotel - easy to find and use as base of operations, didn't try food but room tidy, stocked with all requirements.
- Lee (10/5): Great hotel and nicely situated - Staff were lovely, room was perfect and overall stay was great, will definitely come back if I'm ever in Edinburgh again.
- Craig (8/5): Good location - Very easy check in and good room and size especially on suite, Netflix for free and close to tram which is cheap to use
