Guest Reviews
- Carmen (8/5): Buena experiencia !

- Katerina (10/5): -
- Arianna (9/5): This is a lovely well-crafted set of wooden buildings showing great care and creativity. The buildings could use some ma - Gorgeous views from most rooms toward Castro. Very peaceful and quiet. Staff was very enthusiastic and eager to help but at times not very helpful.
- Eduard (9/5): Looking forward to come back - Great staff, amazing views, not far from Castro yet it felt nice and quiet -
- Peter (8/5): Great oasis in rural location - Rustic, in keeping with rural setting. Very comfortable. Stunning view
The lounge/ reception area with open fire was superb. Would have like a full length mirror in the room. A kettle would also have been welcome
- Arvin.v (10/5): Excellent stay, friendly staff, great ambience. 10/10 would recommend for couple getaway. - I appreciate that they take note of what the purpose of the stay was (I went there with my partner for her birthday) and they welcomed us really nice. The OCIO staff team was accommodating and friendly. the location is beautiful, plenty of things to do on site, you can walk around the property and see some sheep, hidden gems in the forest, all the way until the beach. the hot tub was comfortable, the room was super comfortable. it's so nice and quiet there. Nothing! Just FYI the bedroom to bathroom shares an open air (separated by walls and door of course, but no soundproofing) therefore with all the peace and quiet in the property, you might want to be silent in doing your business in the toilet.
- Benedikt (9/5): Superb -
- Hidehshiro (8/5): Excellent view and staffs - Good facility and services. As for restaurant menu, it would be nice to have different menu for lunch.
- HeideB_11 (10/5): Feeling welcome … - We stayed here the last two nights and I can only recommend this place! It lies on the hills of the peninsula Rilan with a perfect view of Castro that lies on the other side of the sea! We had a standard room which is a super nice cottage, warm and cost with a perfect big window view - sleepy nights garantiere. Dinner was wonderful as was breakfast - especially the fruit platter! But the best was the top friendlyy service of all people here! Always there for you to help you with whatever you might need.
We had a wonderful stay!
- Robert (9/5): never heard of Sabanilla Beach - amazingly sited place; rolling hills, nature, open space with Castro 'over yon'. tree blocked view from room
- Peter (10/5): We had a great time.We highly recommend the place. - Location:quiet, beautiful landscape and with a very nice view over the water.Yet only 20 km from Castro.Due the to location, availability of a car is highly recommended..Staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant serves really good food.Recommend the use of the hot tub which is located in a beautiful spot.
- Raimundo (9/5): Superb -
- Luis (7/5): Good - Location.....but building not though till end Expected much better....need more staff ....girls don't their best ...but only 2 for guests not enough
- David (10/5): Exceptional hotel near Castro - Truly excellent hotel at a very reasonable cost. We had two dinners and both were exceptional. The views are also quite outstanding. Nothing
- Daniele (8/5): Very good - more lights in bathroom
- I6892UAcatherineb (10/5): A very good experience - Beautiful hotel and extremely friendly staff . Within a natural forest , we stayed here longer than we had planed as it is so relaxing . The dinning room is gorgeous. Our room had its private balcony within the trees canopies . All the ladies at the front desk are very sweet and helpful. Strongly recommend.
- fernando (10/5): - The location
- Pedro (8/5): Very good -
- Craig (10/5): Loved it - The room location was private, located in a vineyard. More light in the bathroom.
- Jparmas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paula (8/5): Very good -
- Wedel (9/5): Superb -
- 51michelw (10/5): Chique hotel with fantastic views - We stayed for 4 nights, 2 nights in room 12 and 2 in Bosque. Although Bosque is the larger room (suite) with a bit more privacy, we really liked room 12 which is at the end of the row of rooms on a corner. It’s a bit easier to keep warm and the bathroom has a door in the shower stall. A coffee maker in the room (which was in Bosque) would have been a nice addition. Both rooms are very clean and quit with a very comfortable bed. Furnishing in wood gives it a clean country feel. The rooms have a fantastic view over the forest, water and onto Castro. The location of OCIO is about 25 minutes outside Castro. The last part of the drive, maybe 10 minutes, is on a dirt road, doable with a regular car but a SUV makes it a bit easier. The location makes it very quiet but there are no shops or restaurants in the direct vicinity. The hotel restaurant is very good. It has a nice selection of seafood dishes that are well prepared. The pulpo is highly recommended. Breakfast is a buffet, with a good selection of bread, cheese, cereal, and egged made to order. Service is very personal and efficient, and several members of the staff speak English. We had a really good stay and would visit again if we’re on Chiloe island.
- Gunnar (9/5): Nice stay in beautiful and tranquil surroundings with excellent attendance - Nice, atmospheric and tranquil place in beautiful surroundings. Attention from hotel staff was generally excellent during our stay. The manager on duty exceeded her normal working hours to solve a wifi connectivity issue the night we arrived. Furthermore we were contacted about a left item after departure with an offer to ship it. All strongly appreciated. The food was generally good, however still with a potential to lift the overall experience to an even higher level. Some biofilm releasing from the jacuzzi pipes revealed a potential for improvement on this specific area. Apart from this the level of cleanliness was very good.
- harrietd321 (10/5): A special place - What a special place. Beautiful grounds, wonderful restaurant, fantastic rooms, friendly staff. Loved all the sheep, chicken, ducks that are all around and walking through the meadows to the beach. We went kayaking with the owner, and learned he built most of Ocio himself! We heartily recommend a visit here.
- Sam (10/5): Absolutely idyllic, would highly recommend - Stunning location, super helpful staff, great food.
- Renee (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the staff - especially Felipe & Scarlett. Price transparency could be a bit better. We didn't know they charged for the hot tub time.
- franciscam372 (2/5): Súper expensive - Carro y poco profesional
We Had to threat the worker to get a ventilador…..
The place was the most expensive of the región and its only a 3 stars the didnt offer us nothing at the en try like water or a juicio even siesta the recepción the bar and the hotel was empty
- l_op625 (4/5): Super expensive - As simple as this , the price is incredibly expensive for what it is , its the most expensive hotel of the region and you are getting a poor experience …
Thanks god the view is amazing but its not worth 260.000$ for the night without breakfast .
Think twice before booking in this place
- Andreasschliessler (10/5): Exceeding our expectations - This is an absolutely phantastic place which by far exceeded our expectations. It has a great view over the Casto bay and onto the small town of Castro at a distance. We loved the beautiful trails within the very large nature area which belongs to the hotel and which provides access to the beach. The beach itself allows for long hikes. Lots of wild birds to observe, and the hotel has sheep, chicken roaming on the grazing area. The restaurant is excellent.
- ShortStack12 (8/5): A Little Remote, Showing Its Age A Little, But Still With Inspiring Ambience - We spent 5 nights in a suite overlooking Castro. We would have breakfast and then would be gone for the day. My general feeling is that the hotel is not as "luxurious" as advertised, or perhaps it used to be. For example, when walking to/from our suite we had to be careful not to step in animal feces on the grass path. Granted, we were staying in a natural environment, which was part of the attraction, but you couldn't look around at the beautiful environment if you had to watch your feet. All they had to do was clean the pathway from time to time. The breakfasts were good, but only adequate for the price we were paying for the suite. We had dinner only the first night; they didn't seem to have enough customers to justify having a first-rate chef. Our suite was magnificent if a little worn. There was a water leak under the sink (we should have reported it, but didn't) - anyway I'm just using it as an example of wear and tear. The bathroom was huge but could have used a few more places to hang clothes. The bedroom had a throw rug with an extremely high pile - which to us seemed unsanitary. I wish we had rolled it up and put it aside as another reviewer suggested. We took a walk down to the water and it was an ordeal - the path was not well maintained. We made it OK, but it was clear that it was not well-travelled. When we left the hotel each day, at the top of the dirt road, at the T-intersection, our car tires would spin out because of the steepness. The short steep section of the gravel road should be paved - another indication that they don't seem to have the resources for proper upkeep. With better maintenance and a better breakfast I would have rated it Excellent. It is not pleasant to be honest at this time when the hospitality industry is suffering. Finally, the staff was very friendly and welcoming - as we found all Chileans to be. So this seems to more a reflection of the country than the hotel. This hotel must have been spectacular when it was new. It still is very good if you enjoy quiet nature.
- belliker (10/5): Magnificent location - excellent service in Chiloé - My husband and I stayed at Ocio Territorial near Castro for 3 nights in mid March. We arrived with one of our car windows smashed by robbers in a remote National Park, and the receptionists Ramona and Joana went out of their way to help us compile the police report and finding a mechanic shop that performed a skillful and speedy repair for a very reasonable charge. The administrator/owner of the hotel, who personally ensures every morning that guests have all they need, also got involved in the quest of getting the window replaced asap. I must stress that the this car issue had happened far away and hours before we reached the hotel.
The cabin style rooms sport a beautiful view of Castro's bay, sheep graze nearby and Castro's cathedral bells can be heard tolling from across the water several times a day. On clear nights the starry skies offer up the Southern Cross and Tres Maria's constellations unpolluted by big city lights.
The wooden hot tub in the middle of a meadow overlooking Castro Bay is well worth the extra charge - rain or shine, night or day.
The breakfast buffet offers an ample selection, and while the dinner menu has relatively few items, they are of excellent quality.
On the day we left, the receptionist called ahead to a hotel which was difficult to contact online, to make a reservation over the phone.
We can reserve this paradisiac spot without reservation
- 275ChristopherL (10/5): Peaceful, Vistas, Sustainable, Service - Visited the area at the end of summer....so little rain interruption. A boutique hotel nestled into a hillside forest. Rustic reception, dining and casual areas with modern capabilities. Unobstructed views of the bay and town. Walk along natural paths to stand-alone cabin/rooms. Each cabin is spacious and has views of the bay from each room and a private deck. The wonderful hosts arranged a guided boat tour of the bay. We walked down a path to the bay’s edge to board the board. In the evening, the hotel provided a wonderful fresh seafood buffet in a rustic house halfway down the hill towards the bay. Perfect for families or business offsite gatherings (have cabins set up for meetings). The staff are over-the-top attentive.
- FrancisD743 (10/5): Stylish atmosphere in beautiful natural location - Besides the unique location overlooking the fjord of Castro and the beautiful room surrounded by nature, an important asset of the hotel is the friendliness and helpful attitude of its staff. Also the individual excursions organized by the hotel are interesting and personalized, aimed at responding to the personal interests of.the guest.
- 987lucyl (8/5): A lovely hotel in the country - We stayed at Ocio Hotel for two nights in January.
Every single member of the staff was friendly and did a great job. A special mention for Isidora and Leyla, our servers at the restaurant, for excellent service.
We stayed in Room 10 which was a well laid out room with a beautiful view of the channel that separates the peninsula from Castro on the main island, and loved waking up to that view. We never closed the blinds. The only sounds we heard were occasional birds.
The garden setting is lovely and peaceful.
The hotel is a 30 minute drive from Castro, most of it on a secondary (paved) road and the last few kilometers on a narrow gravel road.
While we very much enjoyed this hotel, we cannot give it 5 star rating because of the deficient wifi and because of the menu and food.
Over our two day stay, the wifi was continually on-and-off. It would show a strong signal but was not connected. It would disappear. One afternoon and evening it was completely off. The young lady at reception explained that it was an internet outage on the whole island, however, we went to a neighboring hotel for dinner and their wifi was excellent.
The Ocio restaurant’s menu is almost exclusively local seafood. For those of us who are not nuts about mussels and clams, it can be a problem. I had the chicken soup for lunch. The presentation was ghastly. A bowl of broth with a shriveled chicken leg, skin and all, with one potato and one piece of carrot. The broth was tasteless, the (local) potato was hard and the chicken meat was tough and stringy and clung to the bones. And it was expensive. I only ate half of the soup because I was so hungry after a long morning of travel. The homemade ciabatta-like bread saved the day, it was fresh and tasty. My husband ordered the beef steak and said it was ok. For dinner we ordered fish and were not impressed. The next day we went to dinner at the Quilquico Park Hotel, a ten minute drive, which has a better menu and out entrees were delicious.
There are a couple of other issues which could be improved. The bedroom is separated from the bathroom by a sort-of saloon style door which is only a bother as you have to keep pushing the door the get in. The 3 hooks on the wall to hang your towels are in the doorway and the towels get in the way of the door, so the hooks are useless.
We also did not like the wool rugs in the room. I think they must be a local product. The rugs are shaggy, clumpy, dark wool which look unclean. We rolled the rugs up and set them against a wall.
- Melissaontheinternet (10/5): Five stars in every way - Our stay at OCIO was truly magical. From the moment we checked-in, you feel taken care of. The grounds are immaculate and gorgeous. A perfect option for those who want to be out of the city, but close enough to venture out for a day trip or dinner. The grounds were so beautiful, we decided to cancel our plans the first night and relax at the hotel. The dinner at the restaurant was also world class, with an incredible view to match.
I would absolutely recommend this to anyone traveling to Chiloé and will definitely be coming back.
- ar573 (10/5): Great boutique hotel in a spectacular setting - My wife and I had a fantastic time staying at the Ocio, the staff was super helpful and accommodating. We had a great asado with another group of guests that were visiting from Switzerland, a very nice meal and overall a great experience. The hotel is not the cheapest option around, but you get what you pay for.
- 770rayt (10/5): Words cannot adequately describe the beauty and tranquility of this place - We selected this spot at the last moment while on Chiloe based on the Trip Advisor reviews and were not disappointed. Ocio and the staff here far exceeded our wildest expectations. We booked an excursion with the hotel guide de tourismo Lothardo, and could not have been more pleased with the experience. He is extraordinarily friendly and giving of his person to his job. We enjoyed our day on a penguin expedition and city tour of Ancud searching the markets, visiting the Ancud Museo, a local family museum and getting to know Lothardo a bit. Our meals were always very satisfying and delicious. Breakfast is included as part of the stay. Cannot recommend highly enough the experience at Ocio.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Calm and peaceful - Very natural setting. Calm and peaceful. The hot tub was wonderful! The guide, Maggie, did a great job explaining everywhere we should go and booking us reservations. She really knows the island well!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great view, staff excellent ‘ - Great place... views, the staff was super friendly they wait for us late night! Spectacular room and bath.
Super clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Most enjoyable - but expensive - A delightful eco-friendly hotel perched on a hill overlooking a fjord and the city of Castro. Excellent food, and service. The view from every room is outstanding. You must have a car to stay here and it is a long drive to Castro, making it difficult to come and go for evening dinners. You can take a boat from the hotel to Castro ($60 US) and return in a taxi ($20 US) which we did one evening but it is an expensive undertaking. Dinners at the hotel are excellent but very expensive as well. The hotel has a spa (which we did not use) but there are few walking trails on the property so most of a guest's activities are through daily excursions. Castro and the surrounding area is fun to explore and there is lots to do.
- Caio (10/5): A truly chic, peaceful and great service hotel! - The hotel and their surroundings are truly exceptional, we had a great stay and really enjoyed our bedroom (which was a standard suite). The room had a great view, immersed in the nature of the hotel, the room is also very spacious!
We also enjoyed a hot tub which was heated the old way with wood, very nice. The hotel has some short trails which are also nice to take small walks, you can see some sheep very close by, which is very cute and also, they have their own orchard where they grow organic veggies.
We had a great time in the hotel, and decided to enjoy it more than we normally do (we tend to stay in hotels, just to get out of bed early and start exploring the area), because we really think it was worth it!
- Thomas (10/5): Beautiful architecture in bucolic setting! - Check-in was flawless. We had texted ahead to ask that hot tub be ready and they confirmed promptly. At check-in we mentioned that this vacation was to celebrate our wedding anniversary. When we came up from the hot tub, we found in the room a bottle of champagne on ice with two glasses, complements of the hotel. The architecture of the hotel includes traditional elements of southern Chile and lots of glass to take advantage of the spectacular views across the bay to the city of Castro.
Dinner and wines were superb and reasonably priced. The staff well trained and very attentive.
We will be back!
- sebastian (10/5): Excellent Hotel - We stayed with my family 3 nights. The place is wonderful!! From the beginning to the end the staff maid our stay fantastic, worried about every detail. We stayed in the Lodge; a great house. For anyone staying in th Catro area, I'll recommend to stay in this great hotel.
- Richard/Glenda (10/5): Beautiful View - We loved staying here! As we drove away at the end of our stay, we were making plans to come back for a family trip. The view from the dining room was spectacular and the food was unbelievably good. The room was very comfortable and we enjoyed the natural, local items such as wool blanket and a collection of woolen dolls on display on the way to our room.
Since the hotel is down a long dirt road, we were worried about having to drive "into town" to get dinner in case we did not like the food. Actually, at dinner, there is a "prix fix" menu which changes daily along the regular menu (you can order from both menus if you'd like). Turns out the food was so good and affordable that we had all our breakfasts and dinners at the hotel. The dining room has a spectacular view.
While there, I had a cold and so they made me tea with lemon/ginger/honey at our request and put it in a pot to bring back to our room-I appreciated the care and concern.
Even though the hotel is not in the city of Castro, it is close to everything-the market in Dalcahue on Sundays and a famous café.
I recommend following the map they will send you to get to the hotel using the southern (not the northern approach) approach to Dalcahue (W-55) off of Ruta 5 and then turning right at Rilan. If you do this, you will see all the signs they put on the road to get the hotel. We had a GPS which "gave up" once we got off the road-doesn't matter since the map and signs were super helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excelente stay and wonderful view. - Centro de Ocio is on a hill overlooking Castro and the fiord below, a beautiful vista from all the rooms and the lodge.
The lodge/restaurant serves good meals and the staff is helpful and responsive.
It's a great location away from the city but close enough to access both Castro and the national park with ease.
- Verified traveler (10/5): beautiful hotel, total escape from everything - great hotel, helpful staff, good food, beautiful views, trails to walk
- Christian (8/5): Mucho ocio.
