Guest Reviews
- Jane (8/5): Friends together 😁 - Celebrated my 50 with a bunch of friends really roomy and comfortable stay
- Patrick (8/5): Very good value , clean and tidy. - Very Clean and tidy , location was Quiet which we expected and would recommend to friends.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I have stayed at Ellison halls for the 7th time now and this was by far the best one. Property was immaculate compared to last visit (old owners) hadn’t cleaned it at all before arriving. This time we had tea milk & sugar to arrive to. Nicky couldn’t have been anymore helpful or friendly to us and we felt literally at home. We can’t wait for our next visit and thank you again. See again soon x
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Plenty of beds, clean and comfortable. In one bathroom, taps difficult to operate, no plug in bath. Kitchen basically equipped, oven filthy. WiFi connection ineffective, a real problem as arranging a funeral. Ok for an overnight stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stayed in the three bed cottage. Beautiful building. Beds really comfy. Shower brill. Really spacious. Looked to be newly decorated. Nicky was our host. Lovely lady. Very welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Won’t be going back - not a hotel room - Not a nice place to stay - this is a self catering apartment with lots of single beds not a hotel room.
- Sarah (2/5): HORRENDOUS - AVOID - - Two bathrooms, one with bath and shower, the other with a bath only. The one with the bath only didn't have a plug!!!!! So one bathroom, 10 hens!
- Because we moaned we were told we could use another apartment to shower.... NOPE! One shower was freezing cold and the other didn't even work!
- chipped paint, holes in the wall upstairs (recent refurb apparently - absolute rubbish!)
- when we went to cook breakfast there was no frying, the toaster didn't work, the kettle was quite frankly vile (smelt funny and spat out boiling water), dishwasher didn't work, NO WASHING UP CLOTH, ONE tea towel, oven was FILTHY, two trays in the oven were manky and covered in food and crumbs... This place was faulty towers!!
- several plug sockets were wobbly - HAZARD!!!!!
- We contacted Nikki and she brought us a couple of toasters, an hour too late, as well as some more loo roll (we had two between all of us for the whole weekend!).
We had to bin £70 worth of food because the kitchen was so filthy and ill-equipped … livid!
- Jane (8/5): Lovely weekend with my family - A family gathering where the rooms are spacious for us to sit and chill and not be on top of each other
- Anthony (4/5): Cold - I have stayed before and it was fine but this time no heating no hot water no iron board that worked no towels nothing to drink. V disappointed
- Paul (10/5): Great stay - Stayed on business great location. Close to supermarkets. Very spacious.
- John (6/5): Good Apartment in a large house - The apartment was situated off the main hall way. There was a massive lounge with a TV and piano. The kitchen was in the centre of the appartment and well equipped. Above the kitchen / dinning room is an open plan mezzanie floor with 4 single beds and large bathroom. Off to one side is a large enclosed bedroom with 3 more single beds. An ensuite from this bedroom contains the same as the upstairs bathroom; bath with shower over, sink and toilet.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Dirty and didn't feel secure. - Not a place I would re-visit. I checked in and checked out within half an hour. The grounds didn't feel secure. This place needs a total overall. Looks like it has been used for Hen and Stag parties.
- Robert (4/5): Sorry excuse for a hotel - I was text on the day of arrival (whilst already en route to the destination) to be told my hotel stay didn't include the rent of towels. Being already on the road when being told this is not great. After years of traveling I expect towels to be as available as a bed in a hotel, is part of the basics.
The area isn't great, police will milling around, people hanging about.
The building was in complete darkness and I left the room upon entering thinking I'd gone to the wrong place.
It could only be described as a house that someone used to live in and is no longer being looked after. Although it's big, it's I need of a renovation, or if nothing else, a lick of paint !
Won't be staying again, sorry.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not well kept accommodation. - Condition of the building, furniture and cleanliness was bad.
The handrail on the stairs to the top floor was very lose it moved about 6 inched in every direction, very dangerous!
Ripped furnature, broken dining chair leg, kitchen utensils not washed since last occupant, dishwasher had unwashed dishes with mold.
Expanding foam holding a door into the wall, the frame moved when the door swung open.
Floors had not been vaccuumed.
Front door lock was lose and had been forced open at some time but never fixed.
Overall not well looked after. Poorly maintained or not maintained at all!
- Verified traveler (8/5): A bit shabby but overall pleasant and peaceful - Stayed here recently for just 1 night with friends. The hotel was ways to find close to the metro station. Neighbourhood is okay, there's an Asda on the way.
The key is collected from the safe box at the entrance, can be a bit tricky to get into with long nails but easy enough to use. The PIN was texted to me around 8am and we arrived in the morning and were fine to check in early.
Apartment was huge! The kitchen and bathrooms were both large and very recently renovated to a modern style. The lounge and bedrooms are also large but in the old fashioned style. The bedrooms and entrance hall were a bit tatty and run down, but at £80 for a 2 bed apartment stay we weren't bothered.
Parking outside is free, we brought our own towels which wasn't a problem. I'd recommend bringing your own pillows too as I had 2 extremely flat ones.
Kitchen is fully equipped and even has a washer drier.
The hotel was very peaceful, this is definitely not for the traveller expecting a 5* standard. You do get what you pay for and we got a large apartment which suited our needs with lovely bathrooms and kitchen, could turn a blind eye to shabbiness of the hotel (perhaps it's part of its charm). Self check in and self check out, we didn't see a member of staff during our stay which is fine by us.
Will definitely use again if we need a quiet cheap stay.
- David (2/5): beware photographs do not tell the whole story - on arrival we were very excited with what appeared a lovely place however that was dampened whenwe entered the first appartment, ceiling damaged and leaking water carpet soaked, couch ripped wardrobe damaged bathroom floor trip hazard damaged and faulty oven and in disgusting state of cleanliness. complained and moved to second appatment, No wifi no television due to sockets in livingroom not functioning,No plug for bath also bathroom full of mould and showe screen useless. Carpets filthy and covered in cigarette burns. bedroom furnature falling apart and no electric socket working.
On challenging the managemrnt by phone asking to be moved following original complaint received text with code for Keystore called back to thank him for the move then found state of second unit as bad, tried to contact manager with NO reply or further assistanxce
- Samuel (6/5): good - there is a leakage from somewhere on the roof.
- Chris (4/5): Ellison Hall review March 2015 - Stayed for one night in apartment. Boiler not working so no hot water when we arrived. Eventually got boiler to start, took about 40 minutes of continual resets. Basin in en-suite blocked and full of dirt backed up from blockage. Beds were incredibly uncomfortable although all the beddding was spotlessly clean. Carpets were filthy and overall the entire apartment is in dire need of sorting out and redecoration
- Noel (6/5): Plush...but who cares? Certainly not the owner! - It is such a shame that this once elegant set of apartments has been the victim of countless stag and hen party guests. It is worthy of so much better. 15 minutes from central Newcastle on from the local Metro Station, it should be marketed to the family market...but it appears to be other clientel that the owners pursue. Be warned, you will get a text just as you arrive saying that they do not provide towels for guests (ouch!). They need to decide whether they are a hotel or a doss-house and market it accordingly. I would stay again, though....it is just that the owners need to decide what kind of business they are running.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Spacious, lovely property, could be fantastic. - Great family friendly apartment, in a stunning location. Short walk from shops and Metro. However, checking light bulbs would improve the overall experience. And towels would be nice as well. OK value for money.
