Guest Reviews

- Paul (1/5): - The breakfast. Eldon is probably the rudest guest house manager I've ever known. When arriving, the first thing he asked me on the phone was 'will you be using your car the next day' to which I replied 'er.......' and without giving me a second said 'there's no er about it, this is serious......there's 9 cars needed'. It was exceptionally condescending and from reading the rest of the comments he's been rude to other people. He said 'sorry for being abrupt' but by then we were already put off as we'd had an exceptionally stressful week with a family funeral. How someone running a guesthouse can speak to guests like that is beyond me.
- we were baffled by the sign that says 'you will get charged on your card if you eat in your room' when it was cash payments only and there were biscuits with the kettle.
- being told the day youre arriving that you need to pay cash is frustrating when everyone you can see in the comments has the same need. The payment was taken by booking.com and then refunded.
- having to work out what youre doing with your car for the weekend is frustrating because who plans out what youre completely doing with your car for the whole weekend?
- the beds were uncomfy.
- the breakfast was very good which redeemed it. After the initial rude welcome he was better.
- Julia (9/5): - Great room and lovely breakfast Just a bit far out to walk back on an evening
- Janet (8/5): Great location - comfy for short stay - Bright room - clean en-suite- Internal hallway decor dated
- David (10/5): - Good location for walking into keswick. I liked all of it.
- Geoff (8/5): -
- Laura (7/5): -
- Armstead (10/5): - Everything location, value for money, great host, great breakfast Nothing
- Salameh (9/5): Cozy place to stay if you plan on discovering the area around - The whole guest house was quite comfortable and the host was very accomidating. Personally, I spent the whole day out so I was only there in the morning and at night but at both times the house was quite and a lot more lively in the morning. The windows in the room dont stop so you hear mostly all the cars that drive by. The stair steps are also not that wide, its not THAT much a big deal but you do have to take care a bit.

- gillian (10/5): Comfortable - Clean Nothing
- Daphne (7/5): Nice guest house, but bedroom got very cold from 8pm. - Craglands guest house was extremely clean and breakfast was lovely with lots of choices. Also had off street parking. A 15 minute walk into Keswick. Bedroom was very cold from 8pm. We were very appreciative of the extra blankets and hot water bottle in our room.
Also, the fact that we only found out on the morning of our stay we could only pay with cash so had to go looking for a cash machine.
Also, I didn’t like the fact that host asked us to leave car key in case he needed to move our car. Not sure where we would stand with insurance if something happened to it!
- H (6/5): OK for the price - Location was good - 15 min walk to Keswick. Bed was comfortable The check in involved calling the host and following a series of laminated signs to find the keys - all of which could have been communicated via email as the signs were very hard to miss.
Payment was taken through booking.com then refunded and had to pay in cash instead…
Parking was awkward and required leaving car keys available in the room in case the host needed to move your car to let someone else out. This felt like an infringement on privacy and has implications for insurance.
The entire hotel and room was full of more laminated signs dictating what you could and could not do. One of these was not eating in the room, which I found to be very restrictive and inappropriate.
The rooms were relatively dated and the bedside lamps were so dull that they may as well have not been there at all.
The rooms were freezing as the heating was hardly ever on and there were no blankets - only a thin duvet. A request for the heating to come on was ignored completely with not even an explanation for why not. This was not ideal for us after a winter walk in the lake district!

- Doganay (8/5): Good price for Keswick - Comfy beds

Nice breakfast Small shower
Lots of steps up to the room
- J Miguel (8/5): Very enjoyable - Very friendly and welcoming, clean, warm room and very good breakfast. Nothing at all
- Rob (7/5): -
- Diane (8/5): A pleasant 2 night break. - Breakfast was good, hot and as expected.

- Laura (2/5): - I couldn’t leave this place fast enough. Room was so small you could barely turn around, and was not as depicted. Parking was a nightmare! Host was not happy that we were arriving at 9 (check in close), and made sure that we knew we had inconvenienced him. Earlier I had let him know it would be evening before we would arrive and he was fine. After a long day of mishaps, we decided to grab dinner before checking in, which apparently was not the thing to do! We arrived at 9 and were treated very poorly. Perfect ending to what had already been a bad day. Left at sun up and skipped breakfast so we wouldn’t have to interact with Eldon! Worst stay in our two week trip to Great Britain.
- David (8/5): - Practical, well placed. Very friendly owner. Great views from the front. Good breakfast.
- Mansell (8/5): - Useful location. Friendly staff. Quiet Having to phone to get a code for the door.. A lot of do's and dont's posted on the door
- Jenny (6/5): - The proprietor was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fine however the room was nothing more than a cubbyhole and not very soundproof. Was hindered by snoring and plumbing noises
- Saied (1/5): - We didn’t get a resolution with him
We called booking the same day we had problem, we got a commitment that we will not be charged and we will hear back within 2 days. Nothing happened. Very disappointed and dissatisfied

- Margaret (10/5): - Great B&B quick check in by phoning the number on the door, keys in keybox after owner supplied code, spacious very clean room/beds ,tea & coffee, towels, shower gel, cotton buds & cotton pads (great extra).Great cooked breakfast, very friendly staff, 15 min walk to town centre with loads of restaurants.Free parking at the side of B&B
- Elisabeth (8/5): Further out of town than I would have wanted but for a short stay it was good value for money - Good value for money and very attentive host.
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Dianne (3/5): Arriving here after a long journey on the rain and having to contend with getting access to the house was very off putti - It was reasonable value for money. The owner was not there and entry was via key in key safe which was difficult to operate. We didn’t see anyone till breakfast and it all felt a bit weird.
The house itself was tired and in need of updates .
Parking was limited and awkward.
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - Everything couldn't fault it
- Ken (10/5): Good value with breakfast variety and good host. - The owner was very organized, which I appreciated with the number of guests being served, Not a big deal because I like to walk but it’s a 20-25 minute walk to the City centre with retail and eating places,
- Emma (10/5): - Thank you
- Wojciech (4/5): Disappointing -
- Kenneth (8/5): - A very nice start. Perfect for our trip to Keswick
- Kay (9/5): Clean and comfortable, and eldon was very friendly. - Clean and comfortable and very close to where we wanted to walk to
- Jennifer (7/5): Good -
- Emma (8/5): Very good -
- Jack (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jack (10/5): Nice short flying stop - great value n - About 15mins walk from the middle of Keswick - a great garage about 5mins walk
Super friendly host and very easy to communicate with about checking in as I was arriving a little later than normal
Room was as expected good value for money given I booked less than 24 hours before arriving. Small single room was nice - TV - coffee etc and clean towels etc Nothing
- Cath (10/5): - Great comfortable clean place to stay easy pleasant walk into Keswick. Lovely breakfast very tasty sausages with vegan ootion. Very well organised host
- Delwyn (9/5): Superb - Nice room, lovely breakfast,
- Zoe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kenneth (8/5): - Nice for the money. Owner:host was very nice. Noisy neighbor in next room ruined it a bit.
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - Great location. Host very helpful but not intrusive.
Basic but had everything necessary and some lovely touches in the bathroom.
Bed was comfortable , and the cooked breakfast was great. If I am going to be really picky, I would
say fresh boiling water is needed for tea at breakfast time.
- Christine (9/5): Had a comfortable stay and would definitely stay again - Very clean. Room was comfortable. Breakfast was good, lots to choose from. It was a little dated. Could do with a revamp.
- Julie (3/5): Poor - Really didn’t like it. Owner wanted cash even though booking.com allows payment by card. Found owner rude. Wanted us to leave car keys for him to move if needed, not insured so no. GB news awful at breakfast.
- Ele (1/5): Awful. Would strongly advise anyone to avoid, or at very least fully research this place. - It looked nice on the website. Rang the guesthouse. Asked a reasonable question in a calm and polite manner. The man on the phone from the guesthouse was as rude as you could possibly imagine. Within the first 30 seconds of the phonecall he told me I was "talking b***cks". When I asked if I could cancel because of how disproportionately rude he was being he told me "do whatever the f** you want" and hung up.
Was as unprofessional as you could get. We opted not to stay. The guesthouse did not grant a refund or reply to any further communication.
- Emma (9/5): Lovely wee night away, lovely wee walk into town via the old railway so no need to walk on the road. - nice choice for brekky, freshly made, very organised system for food only scored the price down a bit because Keswick is so pricey - compared to places to stay in Keswick then the price is reasonable, just a shame keswick is so dear
- Marie (10/5): Perfect - Perfect location, friendly and welcoming
- Dean (8/5): Nice stay over friendly owner and staff rooms kept well . Thanks for a good stay - Bedrooms and facilities were good for a short stay . Located 12-15 mins walk from centre
- James (5/5): Lovely spot, shame about noisy group staying in the hotel with no noise control by staff. - Excellent view. Lovely cooked breakfast. Adequate parking. Nice central location. Woke up by a group of men in the corridors at 1am who continued shouting to each other for 30 minutes, b&b owner did nothing to tell them to be quiet.
Juice/bread/non-cooked elements of the breakfast had room for improvement but still good breakfast overall.
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Shuyun (6/5): Pleasant - Unfortunately room is too small and old
- Laura (8/5): Very good - Rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very tasty. The parking situation wasn't ideal.
- Steve (9/5): Superb - Eldon was very helpful with good communication (both online and off), to assist with my friend and I who stayed there this weekend gone.
Very comfortable single bed, a lovely spacious bathroom and a good breakfast to start the day off with. I'd recommend the place overall, especially for the price and I'd stay there again. Fairly quiet location considering it's on a main road and either a 15 - 20 mins walk into main town area or a 4 or 5 min bus ride with the bus stop just around the corner 👌🏼 The room was small and I'm a big guy, but it was a single room after all and still just about big enough. The bathroom was shared and on the first floor (I was on the second). But again, considering the price, it was all very reasonable.
- Harman (8/5): First stay at craglands.guest house. - Lovely friendly host breakfast was excellent and he is so well organised.breakfast ran like clockwork .guest house had a nice homely feeling and was warm . The bed in our room was a rather uncomfortable.the host is aware and is going to attend to the problem .
we had a hitch with parking but the host will rectify this on our next visit so not really a problem .
- Buddington (5/5): Passable - Grumpy host. GB news on tv at breakfast..... .. yuk.
- Julie (10/5): Great budget option - Last minute decision to stay over in Keswick after a long walk in the area. Craglands was a budget friendly option. Clean, warm and comfortable rooms. Attenttive, friendly host and superb value for money.
- mark (10/5): - Very pleasant stay. Clean- with a top breakfast. I stayed in January-so there was ample parking. Ill be staying again
- Mackenzie (8/5): Very good -
- Emma (10/5): Great little B&B - Friendly welcome Eldon was very accommodating! Manged to get checked in early. Room was very clean and fresh; good selecting of tea/coffee in the room.
Location is great just 15mins walk down into Keswick. Great value for money. Would definitely visit again.
- David (5/5): Fine for a base to explore Keswick. - Great breakfast, clean and comfortable rooms. Parking is available. Don’t advertise on booking.com if you don’t want to pay the platform fees and demand cash instead. I had to call customer services to clarify that I shouldn’t pay any more after the money was taken out of my account.
1 bathroom between 6 rooms is a little steep. But in all fairness, I was able to use it when I wanted to.
The use of heating timers in cold weather is unacceptable. I was cold most of the time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good B&B and excellent host. - Very helpful with early check in and help with parking. Eldon made us very welcome. The breakfast was excellent.
- Phil (7/5): Enjoyable and host was very accommodating - Clean and tidy and presentable Parking was a bit tricky
- Lourdes (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robins (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): - Very friendly owner, knowledgeable about local area. Very nice breakfast. Room ensuite, clean and comfotable. Good views over Keswick from room window. Easy parking.
- Lesley (10/5): Exceptional - Everything, eldon was so welcoming and helpful, made us feel really welcome. Nothing to comment about
- Sam (8/5): Very good -
- Stephen (8/5): Very good -
- Vicki (8/5): - Had a lovely couple of days staying at craglands , Eldon our host was spot on with us, even helped carry one of our cases to our room which was on the top floor ( view was fantastic but the stairs are a killer lol ) cooked breakfast has to be ordered the night before with plenty to choose from ,cereal and toast available as well which you just help yourself to , room was lovely and warm and clean, parking is at the side of the property and bear in mind you're reversing off the main road , but thats just the location of the property, really convenient for keswick town centre , its about a 20 minute walk downhill, we got a taxi back as we had been for a few drinks and that was cheap ( less than 5 pounds) all in all a great stay
- Stephen (8/5): Very good - Excellent host and very good breakfast. The room was very small, but manageable.
- Charles (8/5): Very good -
- Adrian (8/5): Very good -
- Tim (7/5): Good - Friendly host, good value GB news at breakfast was not to everyone’s taste!
- Jane (2/5): - WE did not stay there despite having paid for the room, the property is very run down , there was a horrible smell in our room and a notice on the window saying it could not be opened because there was a wasps nest outside.
Do not believe the rating or the so called verified reviews for this property on Expedia!
- Kenneth (9/5): Superb -
- Alastair (7/5): Comfortable and clean with good breakfast - Good value for money GB News on at breakfast
- Qidan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Terry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Clara (9/5): Superb -
- Lyn (4/5): Not a pleasant stay. Our room had lots of issues. Lots of demands from the owner who was not easily accessible, communic - Breakfast room was nice
Cooked breakfast was okay Shower needs shelf or dispenser for shower gel - pump bottle on floor of shower inconvenient.
Heaters only on for a short time - off by 7am and 7pm - not good for cold mornings and nights.
Cash payment only due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’. No explanation why and appears to have been a requirement for a while based on previous reviews.
Parking inadequate. Requested to leave keys in room for owner to enter our room and move car if required. Not appropriate for hire car regulations.
Owner told us he would enter our room in our absence to place breakfast menu, said he was servicing our room, but all he did was empty one bin - felt this was a breach of privacy.
Stains on one bed sheet.
One Bedside lamp not working.
Spare toilet roll on low ledge behind toilet wet due to a leak. Had to search linen cupboard in hallway for replacement roll.
Mattresses uncomfortable - sag & sink to springs.
Light above bathroom sink not working.
Owner did not respond to some messages through Booking.com supposedly due to his internet issues, yet I was able to contact him through What’s App (I didn’t have phone access).
Overheard owner tell a guest to not make their review too good as people would expect more.
- Stuart (10/5): Exceptional -
- Will (8/5): Very good -
