Guest Reviews
- Tessa (9/5): We gaan zeker terug! - Lekker eten , super vriendelijk personeel.
- A.H. Niets
- Martin (10/5): Great, thanks. - Lovely people, extremely welcoming. We arrived on bikes and our hosts were very accommodating, finding us a space at the back of the building to safely secure them. The balcony attached to our room was great, and the breakfast was the best I have ever eaten whilst away! Superb cherry tomatoes...
- Srdjan (8/5): Very good, very nice pub and location - Very nice rooms and friendly staff Noise as it’s above the pub
- Mik (10/5): Fantastisch!
- Jan (7/5): - Location was superb. Easy parking and friendly staff. Food was good too. Easy to get to the sea and the places we wanted to visit. The pub didn’t close until nearly midnight, which meant voices could be heard in the room from the bar until then.
- Alan (9/5): - Lovely cosy traditional country inn. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good choice of drinks and food was excellent, one of the best ribeye steaks I've had in years! We visit family regularly in the area and I think we've found a new go to stay over! We had a room directly above the bar which was a little noisy, this didn't bother us as we stayed late in the bar however, it may not suit everyone.
- 7a830e1ee95173b2c52c3455a4ade056 (10/5): - How friendly all the staff were . The oub atmosphere was fantastic. Our room.was light airy and plenty of space. We tea coffee and water in our room and on the landing was milk in a fridge and extra water. The bathroom.was well.stocked with toiletries lovely Great big bath towels and was very clean. We also had a decanter of chocolate wine .in our prive was breakfast which they are more than happy to adapt for you with tea coffee and fruit juice.

- 0e3817a342947086ed760499a69db333 (8/5): Had a very enjoyable stay at the Duke William and have no hesitation in recommending it to others. - The hotel was set in the very pretty little village of Ickham.
It had a very olde world charm and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The room was nicely decorated and was very well stocked with things such as toiletries, towels and bottle of water. Breakfast menu was a little limited.
- 8fb8e898a8f471627e568477504a49c2 (10/5): Countryside perfection - I was made to feel very welcome on a quick trip away, as was my little dog.
- 81d2ce1f4d59731ce4eea54ab1fef938 (10/5): Lovely overnight stay for dinner, bed & breakfast - Lovely cosy room. Friendly staff. Fantastic dinner and breakfast.
- Rachel (10/5): We had a beautiful stay with our 3 labs, definitely go back x - It was very homely and clean Could have had bigger cups in the room 🤷♀️
- Victoria (8/5): Great stay in a lovely location, would return ! Thank you for the warm hospitality. - Super friendly welcome from front of house & great tasting food. Lovely products in the bathroom & a free taster of chocolate wine in our room. The room was really noisy as soon as there were people downstairs in the pub. It was silent overnight though so sleep wasn’t disturbed, just woke a little earlier than I would have liked & the pillows weren’t the best !
- Tim (8/5): - Food was very good The bathroom was a bit dated
- Andy (9/5): - Staff super friendly and helpful, made us feel very welcome. Great dinner and breakfast. Car parking limited as it was very busy
- Shane (10/5): Very pleasant; great location and lovely staff. - Lovely welcoming vibe in a nice village location. Nothing.
- Jack (10/5): A gem of a pub in the Kentish countryside! - Really helpful. Booked for my son and his girlfriend to celebrate a special birthday. They even arranged a breakfast hamper for the morning as they had an early start the next day. Fantastic service and a lovely meal in the restaurant. A gem of a pub for an overnight or a just a meal and drinks. Thank you!
- anthony (10/5): A fabulous village pub with nice rooms a great lively atmosphere and wonderful staff. - Everything Nothing to dislike
- Jonathan (9/5): Wonderful stay will certainly be coming back - Breakfast was very nice extremely tasty.
Great decoration and feel about the place Reception on the tv which also could have been larger
- Katie (10/5): - Quirky, friendly attentive staff. Great food and drinks menu. Everything you wish for in a country pub stay. Would wholeheartedly recommend.
- Charlotte (10/5): -
- Olivia (10/5): -
- Spencer (10/5): Beautiful place , lovely relaxed ambience, top notch food, great staff, very comfortable accommodation!!!! - Duke William is charming in a beautiful little Kent village. The staff are great and the food is phenomenal considering you’re not sitting in some high end restaurant with high end bills . To top it off you can bring your four legged friend. Only downside side is it’s difficult to park as there’s limited on street parking but that wasn’t a surprise as the advertise that , I certainly wouldn’t let that put me off going
- Nigel (10/5): - Great village pub that is still a village local, a rare find. This is mostly due to the manager, whose name I've forgotten, and his excellent team.
Great beer, cider, and food. Nothing
- Adrian (8/5): Fine - Good food Heating
- Debbie (8/5): -
- Bonnie (8/5): -
- Nick (9/5): -
- Natalie (8/5): Comfortable, relaxing, laid back atmosphere. - Friendly and attentive staff, good facilities in room (complimentary drinks/bottled water, fresh milk, coffee machine, powerful shower) Lovely breakfast. Great location for visiting Canterbury. Bed was a little creaky, and some noise from pub below during opening hours, but that's to be expected.
- Mariana (10/5): Bello lugar - Beautiful village, delicious breakfast, nice staff!
- Karine (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable room.
The breakfast was amazing.
Parking just outside the pub.
Close to Dover where we had a crossing to France. The burgers weren't the best we have had...
- Abigail (10/5): Perfect pub getaway in great location - Cosy and welcoming pub with very comfortable rooms. Friendly staff and the breakfast was so delicious!
- Ian (8/5): Would definitely stay again, lovely village and friendly and welcoming people - Breakfast was excellent and plenty of it,Staff are attentive and not over barring . 5 star Nothing
- Laurence (5/5): Disaster! But then if you definitely won’t use your room while the bar is open, it’s a great pub 👍 - Good bar atmosphere, nice rooms, good breakfast Where you’d expect noise from a pub with rooms whilst the bar is open, this was ridiculous! They have taken down the ceiling in the bar and exposed the floorboards of the bedrooms above. There is no plaster, or plasterboard, and no ceiling void with or without insulation, so all that stands between the bar and your bed is 20-odd mm of reclaimed pine floorboards and some thin contract carpet. Noise-wise your bed may as well be in the bar! 🤣
Got back to the pub in the AFTERNOON to find it rammed with 40th birthday in progress, with a band! Now the happy revellers had to shout to each other over the music.
You have to have the volume uncomfortably high on your ear pods to block out the shouts, swearing, cackles, etc!
It was too much so we checked out, losing another night’s paid accommodation.
- Kathy (7/5): We really enjoyed our stay particularly the pub itself, the food and staff. - The pub was really lovely. Really competent, attentive staff. It had a nice atmosphere and felt cosy and warm despite it being freezing outside. The bedroom we stayed in was nice but small. It needed bedside lamps but only had a reading light or bright ceiling spot lights. Tea and coffee but no biscuits.
- Olivia (10/5): -
- Sylvia (9/5): Amazing stay in a very cute pub! 😍 - Very nice b&b inside of a very cozy and lively pub. The breakfast was absolutely amazing with all fresh ingredients. There was a nike hike 9km to do from the pub. Our doggo enjoyed it a lot. The room was a little too hot on arrival, but no problem turning it down.
- Francoise (5/5): Food great but not a great rest. - The Duke William is situated in a small village near canterbury. It is great if you are travelling with your dog. Most staff are very friendly towards your animals. We spent 2 nights there. The first night was great. Staff lovely, food great and customers very friendly. Our dog met up with many friendly pooches too. The second night was disappointing as the pub seemed to carry on with the noise till midnight. Our room being above the front door we had noise from banging doors, shouting youngsters and even the booming voice of a man who was using the "f" word every 5mins ! Being a pub you expect some noise till 10:30 maybe 11 but not midnight. Other paying g guests were annoid as we heard them banging on the floor but to no avail. It was obviously not heard above the music being played until, it sounded, like around 4 people decided to leave or go to bed!
- graham (8/5): Good experience - Excellent staff p To irrelevant to mention
- Frances (10/5): Our second visit & doesn’t disappoint! - Fabulous pub! Warm & friendly. Lovely rooms with tea, coffee etc & even complimentary chocolate port!! Nothing
- Jeremy (9/5): - I left really early. But they kindly provided a hamper Not much
- Peter (10/5): very confortable night with a good dinner and breakfast. Thank you -
- Martin (10/5): - Great place to stay, great food and great staff. Not applicable.
- Natalie (8/5): A fantastic village pub to stay in with a cosy, funky vibe - A wonderful pub - with four lovely guest rooms. The Duke William is the perfect balance of traditional pub with a modern aesthetic. Friendly staff, great wine list and food menu - and an amazing breakfast the next day! We'll definitely be back!
- Louise (9/5): We’ll be back! - Comfortable and the staff were great. We were travelling with a dog and he got the same warm welcome as us
- Helmut (8/5): -
- Kandice (9/5): We would stay here again :) - 2 night stay The property is Fabulous through out, Clean rooms perfect shower, comfy beds Tea coffee facilities inc complimentary Port. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had dinner here 1 evening and it was delicious. Breakfast was also superb
- Yanping (9/5): - This hotel is located in a village. The building is a bit old, and the soundproofing could be better. However, the overall stay was quite pleasant. The service was excellent, especially the elderly staff at the bar downstairs, who were very helpful. For breakfast, we ordered fully vegetarian options, which were particularly delicious.
- Tim (6/5): The staff and dinner were excellent, shame the other issues let it down - Breakfast didn't start until 9am which is late if your staying on business. A breakfast box was provided but it was a bit poor Very noisy room over the main bar, there was only the floor boards and carpet to keep the noise down
- Shananne (10/5): -
- Jemma (10/5): The loveliest place to stay and to eat in - It’s the loveliest place!!! We had such a great stay there. Clean, well priced, comfortable, great food. It was just brilliant. Nothing
- Fiona (8/5): Good value accommodation in a charming pub. - Lovely friendly pub with a good atmosphere. Our room was nicely decorated although quite small. Nice touches like the port and pantry to help yourselves.
Great breakfast.
Overall good value for money! Not much room to walk around the bed.
A doggy smell on the landing.
Noise from the pub below.
- Robert (8/5): -
- Tom (10/5): Recommend - Great stay. Beautiful pub and location. Great breakfast. Would recommend.
- Caroline (10/5): - A lovely county pub in a nice setting. Clean, comfortable rooms with lots of little extras, fresh milk, free water and a little bottle of chocolate port. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The pub itself served good food. Would highly recommend.
- Arno (9/5): - Mooie ruime kamer met badkamer met goede douche. Heerlijk ontbijt. Pub was nu tot 19:30 open. Was wel gehorig. Maar daarna was het doodstil.
- Charne (7/5): Lovely - The little touches, food was nice. Very noisy, Could hear every word spoken in the bar and kitchen from my room.
- Pepita (9/5): Apart from missing dinner, our stay was very comfortable and the breakfast good. - Charming rooms, welcoming and helpful staff No chair nor trestle to put case in our room.
We arrived at 8.50 due to delay of ferry from France, the restaurant was already closed and there was no alternative - we had to make do with a packet of crisps for supper
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Kerry (9/5): -
- Nico (9/5): -
- Andrea (10/5): - Atmosphäre, Freundlichkeit, Frühstück
- Shananne (10/5): Last minute stay - Thoughtful touches with complimentary liquor and fresh bottled milk. Staff were so attentive and welcoming. Breakfast was one of the best, great quality and very tasty! Catered for my gluten intolerance with no issues. Nothing.
- Nicole (10/5): - Wunderschönes altes Pub.Wir wurden sehr freundlich Empfangen.Zimmer sooo liebevoll ausgestattet.

Good breakfast.
Nice location.
Games & books in room.
Pantry with fresh milk & cold mineral water. Noise from pub.
Nonchalant bar staff.
Price of a glass of wine exceeding £15.
Bathroom needs re-tiling.
Cheap looking vinyl on bathroom floor.
No biscuits.
- John (10/5): - A fantastic stay. Rooms just perfect. Lovely touch with the coffee machine and the fridge in the pantry with fresh milk and additional bottled water. Breakfast was excellent and far far beyond anything that you would expect at a pub type of stay. Location was quiet and a great base to explore Kent and the coastline. Staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Full marks for the Duke William’👏👏
- Andrew (1/5): A bad night rest - The village is nice I write this as I booked considering the reviews of others and honestly I was very disappointed .
There are 5 rooms in total
One was used by a member of the staff who at 1.00 am come upstairs banging the door of to the stairs which was locked for guests when the pub closed at 11pm.
Room was noisy after 11pm in till 1.00 am due to the loud talking of the staff downstairs and kitchens.
The carpet in the room was unbelievably dirty and the bathroom no better. The bed which was reviewed as comfortable was not... we had a very bad nights sleep. Parking can be difficult.
- Criss (6/5): Lovely location, great staff. Bed extremely uncomfortable - Setting
Staff
The actual pub
Food
Cleanliness especially bed linen and towels No windows to open at night
The bed v uncomfortable pillows terrible
Basic tea in the room would have been preferred
- KAREN (10/5): - BEAUTIFUL HOTEL .
would definitely stay again, Breakfast just too late for business requirements.
- Peter (10/5): - Bigger TV please and a fan or HVAC
- Steve (9/5): - Great short stay All good 0
- Melanie (9/5): -
- Steve (5/5): Lovely village, poor stay. - Loved Ickham. The pub has good ambience and in general the decor is in keeping. The flowers are always a good idea. The staff were friendly I have never stayed anywhere with less sound proofing. Our rooms were above the bar and we could hear every word, every clink of glasses, every time the doors slammed. We were woken at 6.15 by the bin lorry right outside our window. It was followed by food deliveries accompanied by shouting drivers. Why can’t they just talk quietly at early in the morning? We got little sleep. This pub has no manager just waiting staff. Somebody needs to speak to the delivery drivers to tell them paying guests are trying to sleep. Another person who controls budgets needs to invest in sound proofing.
On the wall there was a Michelin plaque 2019. Hard to believe now as the menu is bog standard food out of a delivery truck. The food was so slow in coming the waitress reduced our bill. It wasn’t worth waiting for. The menu was poor and the quality of food ordinary to poor. The breakfast was better but not much. Call me picky but I don’t want my poached eggs hard boiled.
For £175 I expect better. Just a whole night’s sleep would be a start. I knew something was wrong when the waitress asked us to pay within sixty seconds of us arriving. The booking was already guaranteed with our credit card.
- roel (9/5): Very good - Perfect location for travel and nice room and welcoming staff Very noisy, but luckily from 23.30 it went quit
but no big complaints that can be expected in a pub
- Edward (10/5): - We were made to feel very welcome and our room was very comfortable. We stayed in Braeburn which was lovely and quiet
- Phil (10/5): -
- Les (10/5): A lovely stay, shame we couldn’t sample the food in the evening but the breakfast was very nice . Would stay again. - We were very surprised how busy it was, and how large the property is, full of charm.
Plenty of room to sit, either at a table, on a sofa, or in the garden. Nothing
- Karen (8/5): -
- Sandra (10/5): - Colazione eccezionale, staff gentilissimo , bellissima esperienza , tornerò sicuramente . Wi-Fi non funziona bene
- kayte (8/5): -
- David (8/5): It did what it said on the tin - Facilities with fresh milk available from the pantry No cereal or toast with jam/marmalade available at breakfast
- Andrew (8/5): - Really quaint property with nooks and crannies - lovely garden area. Room was spotless as was the bathroom. The only negative was it was on the front over the bar and there was a very loud 'stag' party taking place underneath our room. We could hear the Landlord asking them to keep the noise down but eventually when they left around 11pm it was very quiet with hardly any traffic noise at all.
- Sam (10/5): Comfy stay - We were allowed to leave our bags in the room prior to booking in as we were returning later - which was handy. The staff were attentive and helpful. The room was comfy and the shower was nice an spacious and powerful. It was a lovely stay. The breakfast was delicious and the whole atmosphere of the place was tranquil and calm. Nice place to stay. no issues
- Pearl (8/5): The restaurant was exceptional. Lovely warm welcome. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay but just a couple of things would have - It’s English pub atmosphere & decor Bedroom on the small side. Space between end of bed & wall seemed about 2 feet - very narrow. If I were larger would have been an issue walking round it. Carpet in bedroom quite stained. Perhaps wood effect flooring an option?
- Neil (8/5): - Friendly reception from all staff encountered. Room clean and comfortable, breakfast excellent. WiFi and Tv connection could have been better
- Joanna (10/5): Just what we wanted for a birthday night away - Loved everything!
Great pub in a quiet village. Live music on the first Friday of each month. Stayed in the Empire room which has its own double doors out to a terrace on the first floor overlooking the garden & fields. Coffee machine, long mirror, fan, chocolate wine & a very comfy bed. Food, staff & service 5 ⭐️, highly recommend. N/A

- Michael (10/5): -
- Tim (9/5): grear pub excellent stay - great pub with lovely staff, very nice room well equiped and comfortable. Food was excellent and 15 mins from Canterbury. nothing
- Maria (10/5): Great find. - I loved everything about my stay. As others have posted, exceptional breakfast. I would have preferred a pot of coffee rather than a cup with my breakfast. Nothing not to dislike. Next time I may stay longer to explore the area.
