Guest Reviews
- m (10/5): Top Marks to the Saddleworth Hotel - I have never stayed here before but it looked perfect for my stay which was two nights to visit family.
I had travelled from london.
The hotel was everything as it said it was.
The hosts were even better.
As I was to find later working as a family team is how this hotel is run.
It works wonderfully well in such a fabulous house and grounds.
I'm certainly gong back and this time I'll stay longer and explore the beautiul countryside too.
Top marks to the Saddleworth Hotel for me.
- Mark (8/5): Worth a stay - Lovely place & great service
- Chris (10/5): AMAZING - amazing location, amazing family run business, will be going back.
- nicholas (4/5): Freezing cold bathroom, overpriced. - It worth the price, more like a 3 star hotel paid over £200 should be a £80 a night max. Please note that breakfast is not included in the price...wasn't work £15! Go have breakfast just down the road at Albion Farm Shop & Cafe. Probably won't every stay there again.
- Mick (10/5): Idyllic location - One night business trip, excellent value hotel in idyllic location. Evening meal was very good (Steak n Ale Pie)
Staff had very professional attitude to customer service, will definitely be staying again in the near future
- Steve (10/5): Wow, what a stunning hotel - Another last minute booking for me. Was expecting a small cosy hotel but this was a very glamorous and was still cosy and very friendly. My dinner and breakfast were both delicious. Thank you AJ and family x
- Verified traveler (6/5): - What a strange place. Beautiful hotel, classy decor, stunning views, delicious food, but... Something felt odd. Nice chap on reception didn't seem terribly engaged. Felt he was going through the same process. Even repeated a couple of things. Waiter (owner?) seemed a bit too full of himself. You get the feeling you get what they want to give you. Dinner menu was very male-friendly. No light options. But my veggie burger and tri-cooked chips was excellent - provided I liked pepper. Breakfast was the same. Very little choice and eggs covered in pepper whether you wanted it or not. Toast arrived already buttered. I was the only female guest that night. Not sure they get many females. Lighting room difficult for doing make-up and hair. No easy access to power sockets by mirror (in dark area). But having said all of this, the hotel itself is beautiful. The bedding is stunning. No money spared on decor and furnishings. A series of contradictions!
- James (10/5): - Lovely setting and views, arrived in the dark but got the view the next morning. Dinner was great. Would recommend!

- Marina (10/5): My first stay at the Saddleworth Hotel - I loved the hotel. The service was exceptional. However some minor issues - I don’t like duvets with a top sheet as I strongly suspect only the sheet gets changed each time and not the duvet cover. For a hotel of this class I did not expect that. I have had comfier beds and would have expected not to have to pay for extra coffee pods. I also would have expected matching coat hangers!!! However none of these issues alter the fact this is a really lovely place to stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I stay in a lot of hotels and I cannot remember the last time that I was referred to by my first name during every conversation be it ordering a drink from the bar or food in the restaurant.
Fantastic service, thank you.
- Jamie (10/5): - Brilliant stay made better by the fabulous employees of the hotel. Would highly recommend.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great view - Odd place. - more suited to a wedding than a stay.
- Tricia (10/5): Top hotel - Absolutely love staying at this hotel which I have done on several occasions now. The staff are very helpful and the accommodation is first class along with that the food and wine selection is excellent :-)
- Peter (10/5): Beauty of Saddleworth - An excellent stay at the hotel in what were trying circumstances. Friendly staff, hospitable, excellent conditions. The owners could not have been more helpful.
- Peter (10/5): - I had a very late arrival, this was no problem and everything was organised without any fuss
- karen (10/5): - lovely location, friendly staff, very comfortable room. Love the coffee machine- not so keen on the mirror on the ceiling! Restaurant menu had no vegetarian option listed but there was one when I asked. Think it would be sensible to include at least one veggie option on the menu.
- Tricia (10/5): Excellent hotel - Very much enjoyed my stay here no complaints at all from the friendly staff to the spotless accommodation and the delicious food it was excellent!
- Vanessa (8/5): Lovely hotel with the most amazing views - Checked in for 3 nights - most amazing views, lovely stylish hotel with very friendly, accommodating staff - family run and these shines through into the overall experience of the hotel. Great food, the most comfortable bed. Would stay again
- Kevin (8/5): - I picked this hotel on the strength of some other reviews. I had a very warm welcome and was shown to my room. I booked for dinner right away and was brought a drink while I perused the menu. I had the mushroom soup to start and lamb rump which were both delicious. I went back to my room to try and watch some TV on my iPad but the WiFi was not quite fast enough to stream. I turned off the lights around 22:15 and went to bed. Unfortunately, the guests in the room above were having a fine time treading the floorboards [marked for fixing I'm told] which did keep me awake. To make matters worse, when the WI function in the hotel was finished, one of the hotel staff decided it would be a good idea to run the hoover outside of my room from 22:40 until 23:00! This also had the effect of causing several room doors to slam as I assume other guests left their rooms to complain! This was a shame as otherwise the hotel is very well appointed and the quality of food was superb.
- James (10/5): Convenient bit of seclusion - Second stay as in the area for work again. No thought where to book this time. First choice when visiting the area. Last time we went for the lamb, this time the rib eye steak. Worth the 4 hour drive just for that. Shame about the weather this time. Great walk down the valley from the hotel that I couldn't do this time.
- David (10/5): The Best Hotel I've stayed at this year with work - We stayed on business - This was an outstanding hotel in every detail. We stay in hundreds of hotels a year from local Guest Houses to some of London's best 5 star hotels and this hotel is equal to any we have stayed at.
- Janet (6/5): Great food but hotel overall focused on weddings! - The hotel is in a good location on saddleworth moor, despite a busy road outside noise was not an issue. The best thing is the food which is excellent and the standard of the rooms and friendliness of staff which was also very good. We were however disappointed in some aspects bearing in mind the relatively high cost of our stay, for example we were not offered morning newspapers, the bar was not manned so we had to go and find someone to get a drink in the evening. Also there was a very large billiard table in the bar/lounge, luckily no-one was playing but still odd and a reflection of the target audience (weddings). In summary, a comfortable country hotel that seems to make its trade from hosting weddings, but is putting less effort on those wanting a relaxing, pampering weekend. Also if you want a quiet weekend stay you might make sure there isn't a wedding on!
- Ian Andrew (10/5): Countryside hotel - Situated in the Saddleworth countryside it is a very pleasant place to stay if you want peace and tranquility, though if the weather is wet you don't get the chance to see the countryside much. The room was excellent with a four poster bed which one could sink into with pleasure.
The owner was at hand throughout the stay and along with the staff made the short stay very pleasant indeed, and the quality of service was excellent.
Not really a hotel for the very young children, I think, as there are lots of stairs being an old converted country house.
We shall be returning there on our next trip to the area.
- Joe (8/5): Stunning hotel - Business overnight stay, the hotel is more sumptuous boutique..
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful, quiet and relaxing stay - Fantastic stay at a beautiful hotel. Run by an incredibly friendly family who went out their way to make sure you felt welcome and were looked after. Perfect for business in the north as 30mins to an hour from major cities, and a clean quiet friendly place to stay midweek when they aren't hosting weddings.
- Matt (10/5): - Lovely hotel and room stunning location and very friendly staff
- tetsuya (6/5): Thank you - We experienced British style of staying. We had to look for the reception staff every time, but really appreciate for the young waiter who served us kindly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A great little hotel in a quiet location - A very lovely hotel in a remote secluded location, about 45 minutes drive to Manchester city centre.
My room was clean and comfortable. Had a fantastic view.
The dinner in the restaurant on site was very tasty and perfectly presented.
Staff members very polite and welcoming.
- Nicky (10/5): Great find - Beautiful hotel with the most comfortable bed!! Service .. Evening meal was slightly disappointing but scrambled eggs for breakfast were very good
- Anna (10/5): Tranquil surroundings, excellent hotel. - I've really enjoyed my stay in this hotel. The staff were very attentive and friendly, room immaculate with a beautiful view. Delicious food in the restaurant too. I would recommend it to anybody looking for a quiet and relaxing stopover. A drive to Manchester in the morning takes 45minutes.
- Paul (8/5): Characterful hotel - Pleasant hotel in the hills. Much better than staying in one of the chains. Good value for money.
- Malcolm (10/5): First class! - A superb location and a warm and friendly reception, great food and great company.
This is a gem in the heart of a beautiful location and is always a pleasure to stay here.
- Dave (10/5): Beautiful hotel - Absolutely stunning hotel, spectacular morning views. Friendly staff. Highly recommended.
- Chris (10/5): Gem of a hotel - Booked this last minute, what a gem of a hotel, very clean, friendly staff, great relaxing stay
- Martin (8/5): Mediocre - Was ok, mouldy smelling bathroom, dirty glass left to use and old cartridges still in the coffee machine, lovely surroundings though
- Clive (10/5): Perfect - Stayed on my own for business, the owners couldn't be more helpful! Really nice food too :) will stay again.
- Mark (10/5): great place - As usual a great experience.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A short but fun stopover. My booking was a last minute one, the staff were all really great and very hospitable. Great service. Would recommend to anyone.
- Mark (10/5): Little gem... - Very nice stop over trip whilst on business. Owners are very nice couple and made you feel welcome, home made food. The hotel caters for weddings and I can see why you would have it there the grounds and hotel are in a beautiful location.
If there was a slight criticism the floor boards do creak when you walk over them, and the person above my room did a lot of walking ;-)
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic hotel! - Full of character and comfortable.
Very nice surroundings, good food.
- james (10/5): fabulous ! - Fantastic place run by the loveliest of people !
- Terence (10/5): The Saddleworth in May - Fantastic location, Hotel was immaculate. Staff were very friendly and the room was spotless. The next time I travel to Manchester I shall make a point of going back..
- Mark (10/5): hotel stay - Superb stay. Fantastic hotel and service
- james (10/5): luxury on a budget. - fabulous family run hotel, great location, lovely people.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely hotel in beautiful setting. Hosts couldn't have been more helpful and dinner was superb.
- Mark (10/5): impressive - Alot of the time the hotel looks great outside but not inside. This wasnt the case. The food was very good. Room was well presented. Staff very friendly and area had great views. Will defo stay again.
- Derek (10/5): Excellent - An excellent independent hotel with a feel of luxury at a very competitive price.
Great room, not given full marks because I struggled to get hot water in the shower. Could be operator error.
My evening meal was fresh and tasted great. The cheese plate fantastic.
- Paul (10/5): Relaxing - Booked at arrived late, after 12. Was looked after from the moment I arrived even though my booking hadn't even arrived from hotels.com at the time.
Breakfast was lovely and they couldn't do enough for you.
