Guest Reviews
- Gary (10/5): - Working locally. Excellent food, comfortable beds and a great shower
- Andrew (10/5): Well worth the trip! Knockout pub / hotel - Very welcoming. Friendly staff. Comfortable and well appointed room. Good service, brilliant breakfast, will stay again AND recommend to others
- John (10/5): Quaint pub with good food and comfortable rooms - What a lovely old school pub and hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was great (a lot of locals seemed to be eating here too). Room was simple but comfortable and very clean. There are a few areas that are a little tired and worn, but not to the level of impacting guests. I would be happy to stay here again
- David (10/5): Simple and friendly with good food. - Quaintly old fashioned, which we like, with very friendly cheerful staff. The amenities were simple but perfectly adequate. The breakfast was delicious. We also ate an evening meal in their restaurant which was simple but very tasty. We felt welcome and enjoyed our stay.
- John (6/5): Review - The hotel was very tired and stuffy. The bar, food and friendless of the staff were second to none. Our bedroom was directly above the kitchen and the noise was out of this world!!
- Jack (8/5): - Good sized, clean room with comfortable beds. We slept well and used the bar downstairs (good beer on tap). Food menu also available and short walk to alternative options for dinner.
- Paul (8/5): Nice spot - Excellent bar and restaurant. Seems this is the place for an evening meal in town (provided you book). Good breakfast too. Room clean and good sized. Friendly staff.
- Philip (10/5): - I stayed here whilst doing the C2C. Its perfectly located for this and the staff were really accommodating and even put my bike in the basement so it was safe.
- A (10/5): Cycle tour - Great food and really helpful
- Adrian (8/5): BUDGET AND PET FRIENDLY - Stayed overnight with my dog. Spacious and comfortable room, with en-suite. Very clean, though not the most modern furnishings. Could have done with a shaving mirror above the bathroom basin. Evening meal was Ok - typical pub grub with large portions. Service was very friendly and helpful, and the beer was good. Had to park 10mm away in public car park. Good for travellers on a budget.
- Verified traveler (8/5): C2C stop over - The hosts at the Cumberland Inn were friendly and helped with securely storing our bikes, as part of our C2C trip.
Both rooms were clean, but were showing damp & water damage in the bedrooms & bathrooms and so could do with some TLC. Toiletries were provided which is always handy on a trip like this when you need to keep weight down.
I didnt have any of the beer, but it was a popular choice with the other guests with lots of local options.
There is a nice terrace to sit out on with views across the fields.
Alston itself is nice wirh a cafe and Co-op if you require supplies.
- Michael (6/5): - Wonderful food and service. Unfortunately the property could do with modernising which lets it down
- Dave (10/5): - The Cumberland was very friendly and the off road parking very useful in Alston - it is quite a small town and other accommodation in the town lack the option of parking. Would definitely use again.
- Lee (8/5): Friendly staff decent beer.. - Friendly staff.. Big room.. Unfortunately it was extremely dated and in major need of updating.. But you know its not intended on been the ritz
- S L (8/5): Well worth the effort to get too. - Lovely staff and locals. Good food and reasonably priced beer for an independent free house. Lovely location and lovely view out of the rear bay window in the bar.
- steve (6/5): - Good stop off if doing the C2C but Alston seems a little tired but very accomodating. Could be something special.
