Guest Reviews
- karen (10/5): Really nice place to stay. - A really nice olde worlde style pub. Lovely food, plenty of choice on main menu or carvery. 2 large
, very nice room with lovely countryside side views and lovely breakfast the following morning. Really enjoyed my stay here. Nothing
- Neil Walkling (10/5): Short break - Very comfortable plenty of parking well furnished rooms. Really good food menu and would definitely come again. Nothing to dislike.
- Gary (9/5): - Easy to find, access and room size and clean. Food menu good. Nothing on this visit
- Judith (10/5): Excellent - just what I needed and great value for money. - The Down Inn was excellent - clean, comfortable and very friendly staff. Lovely food and definitely value for money. I had a meeting in Bridgnorth and it was only a short drive away. The Inn was in lovely countryside and very quiet at night. Nothing
- Ann (9/5): We are a group of friends who meet up once a year, we came her last year, returned this year and hope to be back next ye - The location is great, plenty of parking, not too far from Bridgenorth, friendly staff, good food etc
Liana our breakfast server deserves a special thank you, nothing too much trouble and just like last year a cheerful face. The only thing to be aware of, and this only applies to some people, is that the bath is quite hard to get into. They do have an accessible room so if you think this might be a problem would suggest you request this room.
As I said most people would not have a problem.
- Roy (9/5): All of the food was lovely and clean comfortable room. - The Breakfast was excellent The shower blasted you with cold water before you could turn it to the hot position then you had to turn it to the cold position to turn it off.
- Martin (9/5): Shropshire break - Room 8 was really spacious and the bed and linen were exceptionally comfortable. There was a bath and shower, which is rare nowadays. The paintings and furniture gave the room an old world charm.
The cooked breakfast was delicious and there were lots of other breakfast options too.
Plentiful parking spaces.
All the staff were friendly and helpful.
£90 per night for a spacious room and breakfast is very good value, particularly for a bank holiday weekend. Can't think of anything.
- Joy (8/5): Nice country style break - Traditional pub with nice, large rooms which were very clean. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Nothing
- Stephen (9/5): -
- Oddy (10/5): Overnight stay for a family funeral - Beautiful location, full of character. Spacious bedroom , spotlessly clean, great food and really friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent Nothing
- Glyn (9/5): -
- Paul (9/5): -
- John (8/5): - Good-size room, excellent breakfast, good evening meal menu & food. The mattress has seen better days, it was somewhat uneven.
After my wife had a bath the shower was not as warm as it should have been for me and our friends in the next room.
- Andrew (9/5): -
- Alan (9/5): A great find & we will return at some point in the future. - Great breakfast. All good
- Fay (9/5): -
- Robert (9/5): -
- Li (9/5): A good place for a night stop with lovely breakfast and friendly staff - Location, big clean room, comfortable bed, friendly staff, lovely breakfast The pub area wasn’t very comfortable to sit at and relax
- Sharon (10/5): Great break away. - Amazing break away from home.
Staff were helpful, friendly, and very accommodating.

Lovely surroundings. Staff friendly . Food excellent There is nothing to not like
- andrew (10/5): Give this place a try - Our first time visiting the down inn and we weren't disappointed. Surrounded by fields and very tranquil.the staff were very pleasant and welcoming.our room was very clean and comfy and warm with good tv and Internet signal and a nice view of the countryside the beds were comfy and we had a good nights sleep.. A good selection of menu options We opted for the carvery which was very tasty and great value for money. The atmosphere around the bar/restaurant was very relaxing not to noisy or to quite. The breakfast was outstanding maybe the best I've had in a pub we opted for the full English but were lots of other options available. Cereals/fruits/yogurts/jams/juices/ and more all included in the price (£81 for bed and breakfast on a bank holiday BARGAIN)
Overall for a last minute night away on a Bank Holiday Monday couldn't of wished for more and already looking to book again for a few nights next time give the place a try you won't be disappointed. Honestly their wasn't anything to dislike apart from not booking more nights.
- Andy (8/5): Comfortable stay and good food. - Clean and comfortable within easy reach of Bridgenorth. Calvary food option was very good. Breakfast was very nice.👍 Nothing to dislike.
Decore is a little oldie worldie.
- Andy (9/5): Comfortable stay in a great location - Very clean room and comfortable room.
Staff were very happy to help.
Good was lovely and good value for money. Decore was dated
- Jennifer (9/5): Comfortable and welcoming, popular with the locals which is always a good sign. - Lady at breakfast was a great personality, which started the day well. Breakfast was exactly what we ordered. Nothing really. I do prefer a separate shower but the one over the bath was good, so no problem apart from my own leg limits.
- Steven (9/5): Staff friendly and welcoming, food very good. Facilities clean and comfortable -
- Tracy (8/5): -
- Marie-line (8/5): -
- Stratten (9/5): - The breakfast was lovely and the waitress was delightful. Bed and pillows were comfortable and facilities like hairdryer etc were great. The bathroom size was small. I am heavily pregnant so shutting the door to be able to access the loo required me almost to lean into the bath. But it is an old building so perhaps I should have asked for a more accessible bathroom in my booking.
- Richard (10/5): Large comfortable rooms, great food, polite friendly staff. - Remote property with plenty of parking. Rear door to car park can be difficult to latch closed. Sounds like an extractor fan left running over night.
- lindsay (10/5): Will stay here again when we are next in the area - Everything! TV was a bit small and not a lot of accessible channels
- Colin (10/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): Very comfortable and delicious food - Easy to find and lovely welcome. Nothing
- Paul Turner (10/5): - Friendly staff and lovely breakfast
- Joy (10/5): Fabulous place to stay. - We stayed at the Down Inn at least 10 years ago and were pleased to find it was still as good as we remembered - very clean and comfortable. Lovely atmosphere in the bar and restaurant. Good food reasonably priced. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. An excellent stay. Nothing!
- Josephine (9/5): - Friendly staff, comfortable room. Very good value Room 7 bathroom small and difficult to get in there. Door hits toilet. Would suggest taking door off and just have door from lobby as your access to bathroom
- Darren (9/5): Very enjoyable - Lovely breakfast cooked to order.
- mrs tracey (10/5): COUNTRY English PUB lovley - Lovley comftable bed great bathroom the carvery is excellent breakfast 👍 OK eggs benediction ( to vinegar for us)
Fried breakfast is fried traditional all round good breakfast Eggs Benediction to vinegary
To greasy cooking on the breakfast for me..
- Stephen (9/5): - The location was great staff very friendly and had a great breakfast Nothing
- Erik (10/5): A Great Place to Stay - Stayed in Room 5. Was worried about the sound of an extract or ductwork in the wall, but it turned off about 10.00, or 10.30. Possibly the extract from the kitchen? Last dinner orders were 8.30, so it was a very nice quiet place to stay, before an early start and a long day the next day. Dinner and breakfast were great, as was the service for both. Everything was very clean, and I had the best nights sleep I've had for a long time. I'll definitely stay here again, when I'm next in the area for work. Nothing!
- wayne (9/5): - The room was very nice clean warm and spacious the staff very friendly. The evening meal was very good as well as the breakfast. An excellent stay will go again. Nothing.
- Sean (10/5): -
- Tony (10/5): Beyond expectations, value for money. - Absolutely amazing time staying here, I have used a lot of hotels and this one hands down is the best. Room was big and facilities was very clean. Nice touch with tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the room. Nice big towels and complementary soaps and shampoo. Staff could not be more friendly and inviting. Breakfast was beyond expectations with a vast majority to choose from. Again staff could not help you more and made sure we had a good stay. Definitely using theses again. Nothing it was absolutely amazing!
- Jane (8/5): Really enjoyed this overnight stay at a really welcoming environment. - Friendliness of the staff and a warm and homely environment. Food was good and reasonably priced. Parking on site is always a bonus. TV controller did not change channels and no on demand services.
Shower screen was awkward when trying to turn the shower on and off.
- Christopher (6/5): -
- Lesley (8/5): - Friendly service. Good food selection. Definitely stay again if we stop in Bridgnorth.
- Sue (9/5): -
- Charlotte (9/5): Great stay! - Lovely large bedroom and welcoming staff, had a great nights sleep Nothing
- Trevor (10/5): -
- Alan (10/5): I've stayed here often and it's always excellent -
- Valerie (10/5): - The Down Inn is a beautiful traditional inn, with partial wood panelling, very cosy ,with 2 open fires, very warming.
The room was a very good size, very comfortable, clean ,with a lovely view of sheep from our window.
The food ,including breakfast was very good, served promptly.
Very quiet peaceful location, you do need a car to get around.

- Lorraine (10/5): Perfect. - The property is in lovely surroundings. It’s cosy and comfortable. Welcoming with an open fire. The food is always of good quality and cooking There is nothing to not like. We have been to the downs many times and will keep coming back.
- Richard (10/5): Looking forward to our next stay! - This is our forth over night stay at The Down Inn. The Inn is out of town with a large park area. The rooms are large and well furnished. Access to the bedroom corridor from the bar is by a flight of stairs and from the car park is by a steel emergency style (short) flight of stairs. A very good choice of food and friendly staff. What’s not to like?

- Michael Lees (10/5): - Food and the ambiance were very good. Pleasent and courteous staff. Rooms very comfortable and in keeping with the age of the property. Clean and quiet.
- Brenda (9/5): All in all very comfortable. Freshly cooked food to order. Staff extremely pleasant. - Room was large and very comfortable. Plenty of hot water Stairs were narrow and wound upwards. Not easy for the older guest.
- Andrew (9/5): -
- Mark (10/5): Really enjoyed our stay - well done - Easy to find, great location and plenty of parking. The food was fantastic 😊 Nothing
- Jane (8/5): -
- Georgina (8/5): Nice size rooms, perfect for one night stay - Our room was a good size, and had a nice natural light. It was perfect for a nights' stay. We were staying as it was close to a wedding we were attending nearby. Breakfast was a generous size, but we didn't eat lunch or dinner there. The bath/shower had hair in it from a previous guest so we didn't use it.
- Rosalie (9/5): Really lovely place, great rural location. Nice food. - Enjoyed the roast dinner on the Sunday evening, and breakfast.
- annette (9/5): Fabulous food and friendly helpful staff. Great stay in a lovely part of the world. - The accessible room/bathroom had everything as described and was perfect. The mattresses on the bed were not particularly comfortable.
- Maria (10/5): Lovely room, nice staff, excellent food and a good price. Very pleased! - hd dinner in th restaurant and was very pleased with both the food and the price paid. Very good value for money.
A week later, I had the carvery on Sunday which was once again, good value for money and the food was excellent. Well done! I can't think of anything they could do to improve on the excellent service and facilities.
- Katie (10/5): Wouldn’t hesitate to book again! - Lovely place to stay. Big room! Attentive staff! Such a powerful shower! Delicious food, we had both breakfast and dinner at the Down Inn.
- Julian (7/5): Shame about breakfast left a bad experience - All good for work no frills I went down to have breakfast before 9am. The waitress arrived 5 minutes later and told me breakfast was finished.
Staff rude and not acceptable
We were offered breakfast 15 minutes later which was too late.
The evening staff are ok the breakfast staff are terrible
- Mark (5/5): Unexpectedly disappointing. - Efficient check-in. Good breakfast and pleasant team. Quiet location away from any built up area. Overall, the pub area is very dated and perhaps needs a refresh whilst keeping the current theme.
We had room No. 9 - designated as accessible to all but looking at the layout, facilities, positioning, etc., the room needs to be re-visited. There were several aspects which would present a challenge to those with disabilities so I don't recommended a single occupancy if you have mobility issues.
The room was adjacent to the restaurant so was quite noisy through to closing time - additionally, someone kept jamming the access door between the bar and residential area open exacerbating the problem. Also it is on the ground floor with other rooms above - lots of overhead noise to deal with as guests arrive and depart.
Whilst we don't wish to disrespect the owners we won't be staying in the future.
- David (7/5): -
- Michael (8/5): Nice place ideally suited to visiting the local sites and railway. - Breakfast was excellent the evening meals well priced and very traditional. Room was clean and tidy the bathroom was a little too small accessed via a narrow hall and wardrobe. All in all very good value for money. Small bathroom.
- Sandra (9/5): You can't get it perfect for everyone, but it was very close for me, spot on for hubby. - The amazing staff, food and cleanliness, with the added bonus of being in a quite relaxing setting. For my husband the bed was fine, for me it was too hard.
Nothing wrong with it, just personal preference.
- Pauline (8/5): Lovely, comfy stay - Lovely clean rooms, dinner was excellent and breakfast was very good. As its an old building, we had a room upstairs and our floorboards creeked at lot when walking on them, making a lot of noise.
- Ian (8/5): Lovely place -
- TERENCE (10/5): A very enjoyable stay a usual The place was superb when we first stayed in 2011, and still is. - The room is good, as expected the disabled facilities are ideal. The Breakfasts are wonderful, varied, flexible and tasty. The dinners, especially the carvery, are great- about the best I know of. The location is ideal for the Severn Valley Railway, which was what we required this time. The car park. The gravel is hard to walk on, and the slope awkward for a person like me with limited mobility.
- Geoff (9/5): -
- Bradley (10/5): We enjoyed very good food in a very comfortable friendly hotel - Very quiet and comfy room All good
- Norman (7/5): -
- Christine (7/5): Nice place to stay as a base for touring the area - Location
Clean and comfortable Accommodation fine but pub very tired.
