Guest Reviews
- Ross (5/5): Potentially great stay but some little things let it down - The room is spacious and the bed is comfy, although the double bed was actually 2 single mattresses put together. The bathroom was big and had supplies. The room, landing, bathroom and staircase have emergency lights with bright green LEDs. They are bright enough to disrupt my sleep. I'm not sure why this needed to be installed in the room as the room itself isn't a fire escape route. Other hotels seem to be OK with not installing them in every room...
Also, the central heating wasn't working, which at Christmas was a bit of a disappointment
- Marta (9/5): -
- Peter (9/5): Good place to stay at reasonable price - Nice people, clean, well kept room and comfortable bed
Central to Wallingford, just what I needed at a reasonable price
- Richard (7/5): - Need to be aware that you are staying in a pub, which implies noise from below in the evenings. It took a while to contact the staff in the morning, but the problem was solved in a timely fashion.
- Samantha (9/5): A good stopover whilst walking The Ridgeways - Well located approx 1 mile from The Ridgeway National Trail so great if you’re walking!
THERE WAS A FRIDGE IN THE ROOM (and it was quiet) No food served… though there were plenty of options in town..
- Charlotte (6/5): - Pretty reasonably priced shops around the area especially the community shop. I paid of a price of a single in cardiff friendly local made me feel welcome
- Muir (7/5): -
- Guest (5/5): Pubs Great room not so much but alright for a night ! - Max and the staff behind the bar were very pleasant an accommodating as were the other regulars in the pub. Good selection of drinks. Hotel is very dated and needed work carrying out in the room i stayed in (number 1 ) Radiator was on solid and required a plumber attending. Shower dripped constantly and dial came off in my hand. Other items needs updating or removing.
- Christopher (7/5): -
- Anne Sartori (4/5): - Draps propres
Salle de bain propre Établissement dans son jus
Très cher pour le service
Aucun petit dejeuner de proposé malgré ce qui est indiqué sur booking
Pub en dessous des chambres avec bruit intenable jusque tard dans la nuit
- sandra (4/5): Never again - nothing esoecially not clean, small rooms, see-thruigh curtains in bathroom ( so we didnt use the light).
no breakfast ( we booked for 2 days including breakfast, be they cancelled it).
- ANNA (8/5): Good value bed for a night - A warm welcome. Really comfy bed. Quiet. No breakfast but there is a nice cafe a couple of minutes walk away.
- roy (8/5): -
- Stephen (2/5): - Unacceptable ! Unacceptable
- John (8/5): -
- Giedre (8/5): Decent choice for short stays. - Decent size room, clean, friendly staff. Mattress was not good.
- Maggie (8/5): Very good -
- Fishburn (10/5): Exceptional - Staff were very helpful, and the place was good and pity they don't do breakfast but plenty of places to eat in the town. Nothing really just lacks breakfast facilities. And parking could be a problem.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - very welcoming!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely big room for the 3 of us, comfy beds, very hot due to weather and on main road with noisy trafiic but they had put a fan in the room for us. Couple of spiders in bathroom window and could do with a hook on bathroom door to hang towels/clothes, but apart from that would visit n stay again
- Annette (8/5): Very good - How friendly and accommodating the hosts were. We arrived early so left our bags which were taken upstairs and put in our rooms. It was a hot day and fans had been placed in the room to cool it down. The rooms were small but equipped with a fridge and hot drink facilities. The location was great. Only a couple of minor things. The bed was uncomfortable, the wallpaper was peeling off the walls and the main lights flickered.
- Michael (7/5): Good -
- Sandra (2/5): Very poor -
- Niall1001 (7/5): Nice room but hot and noisy - Nice clean room room No hot water when I arrived. Room was very hot (admittedly the weather was very hot). As the rooms were above a pub it was quite noisy until 11.30 as might be expected but a conversation went on outside until after 1am. Building work outside started at 8am.
- Keith (3/5): Great staff, but disappointing value - The staff were very friendly and helpful The rooms were cramped, extremely hot (due to the time of year), poorly ventilated (the staff had provided a fan) but with the window open traffic noise was loud. This for £57, without breakfast, not great value for money....
- Darrell (8/5): Very good - Great location for our work. Clean & tidy, staff very friendly and helpful.
- Philip (7/5): Great location for our rambling needs - The location was great for our rambling needs.
Comfortable room. No Breakfast or evening food
- Paul (7/5): I didn’t stay there but the guys who did liked it - I had some employees staying there and was charged for an extra bed. All I need it an invoice which I’ve asked for numerous times with no reply.
- Andrew (10/5): An outstanding place to stay with kind, friendly and efficient staff, very high standards of accommodation and excellent - Everything about the property was great: the staff, the room and the cuisine. Nothing
- Iain (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (8/5): - A clean and comfortable place to stay for the night. Rather late check-in, and early check-out, to accommodate the owners, who do not live on the premises. Breakfast was not included but we were given a good recommendation. Staff friendly and helpful and a very reasonable price.
- Margaret (3/5): Good location for our Thames walk - comfortable bed Rooms very tired and in need of TLC
- Sarah (8/5): Very good -
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Alison (8/5): Convenient clean and comfortable - comfy bed
- Lorna (10/5): HIGHLY RECOMMEND - A warm and helpful welcome. The room was extremely clean, with all facilities I required. I was particularly pleased to have a bath as well as a shower. A large, very comfortable bed. Excellent position to enjoy Wallingford.
- Linda (10/5): Very comfortable with excellent service, I will go back. -
- Cathy (10/5): Great, quaint pub in Midsomer country! - The location was perfect for exploring the area and there was a reasonably priced overnight car park nearby. Staff (Luke) was very friendly and helpful and the restaurant across the road (The Royal) was very nice for dinner and breakfast The only negative comment was that the staircarpet leading to our room was quite dirty and stained - room itself was very clean, so no problems there, but it was just a poor first impression and it needs replacing with something more hard-wearing and easier to clean
- Graham (10/5): A very enjoyable stay. Good beer. Recommended. - Very friendly, knowledgeable and professional bar manager. The sort of guy who keeps the conversation going and making sure everyone's enjoying themselves. Good for the punter, and good for the business.
- Jane (8/5): A great base for Wallingford Winter Blues and Jazz - This is a pub with rooms. It also has a good selection of draught and keg beers, We were looked after by a bar manager who successfully dealt with rooms, customers, cellar and staff simultaneously. He also seamlessly transferred us to a room above their sister restaurant opposite, because there was a problem with the heating in our room. He went the extra few yards and steps to get our luggage back when our room was sorted.
- James (8/5): - A lovely pub and excellent associated restaurant across the road, both with exceptional staff.
- Susan (4/5): - Bedroom very small . Bathroom size adequate but sink did not drain well and toilet had weak, inadequate flush.
Had to access room by narrow steep staircase via the garden. Garden sounds good but just area of outside tables for the smokers.
Breakfast was served at restaurant opposite The Royal.
Breakfast was good. Wish we had stayed there.
- Julie (7/5): Pleasant stay in a friendly locals pub - Nice pub. Bedroom has been recently renovated. Bed was comfortable. Nice bedding and towels Bathroom needed some tlc. Road noise between 5am and 10pm
- Faye (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caroline (7/5): Good - Staff were great, friendly and helpful. Location was great. The room wasn't made up daily. It was basically clean but look in to the nooks and crannies and places hadn't been touched in a long time.
- Karen (9/5): Would come back - Our host was very helpful and our room was very clean , had everything we needed for our night stay. Its location to the town perfect. Lots of eating places in the town or we could have had breakfast opposite. The rooms are in a separate building so there is no noise from the pub Sadly owing to its position and age there’s no onsite parking albeit there is a paying car park close by.
- John (10/5): - Superb "Inn Style" accommodation. Above a local pub so access to food really easy. Cosy well kept room with fridge, very comfy bed and clean bathroom.
Really close to the main town, shops, places to eat.
- Amanda (8/5): Overnight stay in a pub - did exactly what it said on the tin! - Comfortable room Nothing really- room was a bit hot for us
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I stayed three nights and each night woke uo 3-4am because of the cold. No heating and i needed all clothes to go through the night. Very unpleasant and not providing the rest I needed during my business trip.
Not sure if i use the app wrong, but mo ody reacted to my message asking for longer heating.
The room was spacious and clean.
- Martin (8/5): - The hotel was good and excellent value. However, with limited mobility I found the stairs almost impossible as was an area of the courtyard.
- Simon (10/5): - Good allocation, excellent staff, decor tired but clean, no on site parking
- Libby (1/5): Terrible waste of money - Found woodlouse in the bed, the automatic light kept going off every time you roll over in bed, the radiator in the bathroom leaked, the fridge was extremely loud all night. I tried to contact them multiple times via booking.com and email but have had zero response
- Miriam (10/5): Perfect location, service and very welcoming - Friendly, clean and very helpful Nothing
- Monica (10/5): Very good value - The room is modern, clean, bed and pillows are comfortable, it has a mini fridge and it’s very quiet. Staff is lovely.
- Joanne (5/5): Passable -
- Chris (10/5): Wonderful Cathotel in Wallyworld - Large comfortable airy room. Large bathroom, with natural light. Central location. Friendly helpful and welcoming staff. Good pizzas. Fun locals. N/a
- Savannah (10/5): Excellent value. Definitely recommend. - Great location.
Lovely helpful staff.
Wonderful breakfast hamper.
Really nice bar food.
Clean warm and comfortable room.
- Trevor (8/5): Very good - Location is good if walking the Ridgeway. Had an evening meal and thought the food was good pub fare. Friendly staff. Shower was excellent after a hard days walking. The extra beds are perhaps a little small for adults of a longer stature.
- Sandra (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (10/5): Will stay there again in a heartbeat. - Great room in a quiet are. Shower was fantastic. Friendly and helpful host. n/a
- Sandra (8/5): Quaint room, narrow staircase was not a problem. All expectations met. - Comfortable bed, clean room, spacious bathroom with dressing table. Nice atmosphere in pub downstairs. Great beer and pizza. Nice entrance through beer garden. Good value for money.
- Elisabeth (4/5): - OK if you want a budget option.
- Paula (8/5): Very good - The manager was great. Friendly and helpful. The location was central and within walking distance to shops pubs and restaurants Could do with somewhere to store clothes or more coat hangers
- Anne (5/5): Passable - Great location and staff. Very warm day, and no air conditioning in the room. So didn’t sleep well. The bed was a bit soft for my taste (and back:-).
- Paul (9/5): Excellent. Helpful staff (Luke?). - Good location
- Malcolm (7/5): Very good relaxing stay - Nice feel about the place.
Great location with easy parking nearby. Little too warm as no A/C in room.
Cooked breakfast would be good but short walk to Dolphin which was great.
- Craig (10/5): - Staff are super friendly and helpful!!! it is old so you have to expect things don't work like new (part of the charm of the place) only stayed 1 night but would recommend. would have loved to try the pub but we were tired from travel
- Christian (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff
- John (7/5): Good -
- Rob (10/5): Comfortable - Friendly welcome. Nice room. All that you need very comfortable
- David (2/5): Absolutely not acceptable and certainly not worth the room rate. - There was no breakfast on offer. Apparently we were required to book ahead for a “breakfast hamper”! However this was not made clear in the booking information. The room. The temperature in the room was 29 C with an inadequate fan which was too noisy. The evacuation lamp above the door was too bright and bathed the entire room with green light. The carpet was dirty and stained. The beds had clearly seen better days. Noise from the garden and bar persisted until midnight.absolutely
- Jane (10/5): Good room - The room was lovely, newly updated, but the hotel required a little update.
- Dawn (9/5): Little gem - Lovely room, small but well equipped (including a fridge and fan), great shower pressure and lashings of hot water. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the bathroom and everything spotlessly clean. Would stay again in a heartbeat, thank you to the whole team. Nothing
- Robin (8/5): Delightful stay - The welcome was good, and assistance was given with taking our luggage up the stairs. Room 2 is a good size with an amazingly comfortable large bed. The towels are large, and the toiletries good enough. Best of all, they are not attached to the wall. Great hot water in a bath or shower, with a safety mat. Fridge, tea, coffee, kettle and biscuits. Nice hanging space and hooks as well. Two issues that needs to be dealt with...the stairs are narrow and steep with poor lighting. The latter just needs adjusting. Check in is at 3.00 when the pub opens. It's not clear how to manage an early check-in or leaving luggage as the accommodation has changed hands. Some further information is needed for guests who booked under the previous ownership. I'd stay at the Coachnans Arms again...and again. Oh, lots of eating places nearby!
- Julia (10/5): Comfortable stay - This was our second stay here and it is comfortable and Luke was very accommodating and we left our luggage a bit earlier than check in time which was a big help. Our breakfast was a hamper with granola, croissant and fresh orange juice. There was a small fridge and tea and coffee. Bed was comfortable overlooking the beer garden
- Kevin (10/5): Friendly welcome. Cosy room. Great location. - Clean, comfortable. Great hosts.
- Paddy (5/5): Passable - It was a quaint pub The room was insanely hot, there was a thermometer which said 26degrees all night (assume that why there was a fan in the room). The fan helped a bit.
Half of the mattress was basically broken and when you sit down you go straight through.
One of the pillows on the single bed had no pillowcase and was stained yellow.
- Dickie (10/5): Good room and facilities in a nice little pub - Great location A bit expensive for a lone traveler
- Henry (9/5): Superb -
- Smith (4/5): Please update your info the place is good you misinformed me - Liked the pub.Liked the staff Your reviews said breakfast was great .No breakfast. No parking
- Lawrence (7/5): Good - About standard for a local pub stay Quite cool until heaters were on
- Andrew (10/5): - Very quiet, clean, and comfortable room. Slept well after a long walk. Steep stairs, which I’m perfectly fine with, but to be aware of if it’s a challenge for you!
Convenient for a wide choice of places to eat in Wallingford
- Jens (8/5): A lovely overnight stay. Could imagine to spend more nights if used as a base to explore the area. - Cosy room right under the roof. Very friendly staff in the coachmakers arms and in the restaurant on the other side of the road. The restaurant can be recommended. One of the best we had during our trip. -
- Wayne (9/5): Superb -
- Megan (9/5): Superb - The hamper breakfast is a great idea. Our room was quiet. Great for tired Thames path walkers
- Flydutch (5/5): Quaint pub b&b, good location for walking Wallingford, pay for parking nearby (6pm to 8 am free) - En-suite bath was modern and clean.
Breakfast basket was good, contents tasty (croissants, fruit, granola) - fridge had juice, yogurt and milk. Our room was at the front of the building, facing the street. Traffic noise was very bad - buses, commuters, trucks and street cleaners started about 530am. The windows could use an update to mitigate the noise (old wood sash with single pane glass does not cut it). Those with physical limitations should note the steps up to the room are very steep and narrow.
- Cheryl (8/5): - Seemed a bit busy/disorganised during the booking and payment process so I was a little worried but it seemed this was due to a change of management and all was fine. If fact, they were very helpful in amending our booking and carrying luggage etc. The room was quaint and quirky, quite quiet and comfortable.
- Andy (7/5): Good solid pub accommodation well located in the centre of town - Well located in the centre of Wallingford, excellent food in the twin restaurant across the road but not cheap. Breakfast was a pre-prepared continental style to be eaten in the room which wasn’t really clear from the description
- Sue (10/5): Loved it! -
- Jason (9/5): Superb - It was a amazing place. Clean and tidy. Good size room. None
- Joost (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (8/5): Nice old pub in centre of Wallingford - Great location, the room was a little dated or quirky but clean and comfortable. Luke, the manager was excellent and very helpful and friendly, didn't eat at the pub so can't comment on the food. Steep narrow stairs
- Cristina (8/5): - Very nice and cozy bedroom at the top floor of the building. everything was clean and cozy! Surrounding area does not allow you to park.
Check out: no instruction on where to leave the keys...
Overall, I would very recommend it!
- John (8/5): Very nice thanks - Location, comfortable room, friendly welcome and a decent pint. Nothing
- Josh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Denise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gordon (8/5): Clean, tidy, all we needed - Clean and suitable for our needs If I’m
Being “picky” then a walk in handheld shower preferred.
- Andrew (9/5): Superb - Atmosphere.
