Guest Reviews
- Krystle LeeAnn (10/5): - Rusul was truly an amazing, attentive host who provided hospitality and made Devonia Express feel like home. I would definitely return.
- Susan (10/5): - The manager was very welcoming and helped with our luggage to our room. Clean tidy and our room was perfect. Superior and balcony with sea view
- Iain (6/5): - Basic room but quite clean apart from some mould in the shower. The water pressure in the shower was very low. Good location, staff friendly when they were there.
- Davina (9/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - All good
- Duncan (1/5): poor and not cared about. - no staff around, left to my self even when I rang the staff bell. Like really they did not care and just left me to myself, they only wanted the money and did not care about me. quite isolating location and hotel as no one there, did not feel welcome.
- Yvonne (10/5): Loved our stay at Devonia Express - Great location, right by the sea front. Close to some cafes and shops. The cleanliness of the room and property as a whole. Usage of the fridge in the breakfast room. Excellent Wi-Fi. Quiet and peaceful. Comfortable bed. Nothing really. But if I absolutely have to mention something... I'd say that had I travelled alone instead of with my partner, I might have felt a wee bit uncomfortable/unsafe as there was no staff around. We did get a phone number from the person who checked us in, whom we phoned once regarding the heating and they helped us out straight away. They were very helpful.
- Jayne (10/5): Stay - We booked in and didn't see anybody until we left. We were left to our own devices which suited us.
- Julia (9/5): Superb -
- Nota_bene (8/5): Very good -
- Ruth (8/5): Great location, clean and friendly staff ! We will definitely come back! -
- Ann (8/5): - Hosts were very hospitable very clean and quiet . Very enjoyable stay .
- Robin (10/5): Wonderful place - Charming hosts that were friendly and helpful. Clean well equipped room, and a wonderful view of the sea from our window.
Will definitely return and would thoroughly recommend! Nothing!
- Ewa (9/5): Great stay close to the promenade - Breakfast wasn't included in the price but I got a nice surprise, it was available for free every morning. Good selection. Continental: bread, croissants, yoghurt etc. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Tea/coffee was available in the room, which was exactly what I needed :) There was no electricity/hot water in my room, but I got a different room so the issue was solved
- Robert (10/5): - My wife and I had a really good stay at the Devonia. We would stay again and as we were there for Glyndebourne, probably will next time.
- Shell (7/5): Good -
- Craig (8/5): Hosts were friendly and welcoming the accommodation was clean and location close to beach. - Spacious and close to amenities comfortable and welcoming Very close to a busy main road so sleeping with the windows open was rather difficult
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - Room is comfortable and has everything I need. The staff are friendly, helpful and very welcoming. Nothing
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- David (8/5): - It was good to have the reassurance of a parking place (although this is on a first come basis). Although they did not do breakfast, the hotel offered cereal and toast with plenty of tea and coffee in the room. We did struggle with the TV (which only seemed to get certain channels, although this might have been our lack of IT skills). We were on the top floor which may have been responsible for the lack of water pressure in the shower. However, overall good value for money.
- Jill (3/5): We were disappointed with our stay. - The room was clean. The location was good. Check-in time was incorrect so we were left waiting for an hour. The information
about the Devonia in the room was muddled. Eg name of hotel, check in time.
The shower had very poor pressure. The TV had no signal. The milk in the room had gone off. The breakfast facilities were very limited downstairs. There was no-one in the building to help.
- Geoffrey (7/5): Good -
- Andrea (5/5): Adequate but rather dingy. Clean room though. - The room was clean. Bed comfortable and lots of biscuits! Road was noisy. Very dingy entrance and staircase. No help with the luggage ( my husband has a dodgy back).
- Harbinson (9/5): Superb -
- Mike (8/5): Great sized room and a nice location on the seafront with easy access to the town and promenade. - Nice location right on the seafront with easy access to the town and promenade. Great sized room, had a nice stay. Room only with no breakfast service, but a selection of cereals and bread for toast available. Plenty of places to eat out for breakfast or supermarkets to buy food.
- Peter (6/5): - Ok, maar niet spectaculair. Wel op wandelafstand van het centrum en parking achter het huis. De kustweg is wel druk.
- Barry (1/5): would not stay there again, would not recommend this place to anyone - no breakfast, location was good we stayed at devonia about 10 years ago and it was lovely then, now it is dirty, rubbish in the front garden, bedding was dirty, no hot water until we asked, on one came to service the room for the 2 night stay
- Wendy (5/5): Room for improvement - Good room space, no signs of wear. Downstairs lounge and breakfast an added unexpected bonus. Lighting in room good. Chairs useful. Freeview TV reception was awful. Nextdoor had to check us in as owner was called away. There were only 2 rooms occupied (us and another guest) and we both got put on the 2nd floor! No room servicing, no Xmas decorations, found a cake bar wrapper under the end of the bed, not enough hangers, mattress quite old/thin, no blackout on window, light in shower not working, shelf in shower useless, WiFi code in guest info in room wrong.
- David (7/5): Good -
- K (9/5): Nive - Great staff, clean and reasonable price It's good
- Peter (9/5): Superb - Clean, quiet, nicely furnished, good quality. No breakfast
- Lewis (7/5): Good -
- Freyaa (7/5): Good -
- Horley (8/5): Very good -
- Kyle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Diane (8/5): Great location and great base to explore - Great location, off street car parking When we initially booked, the property was a bed & breakfast. It now no longer provides breakfast which is fine as we are used to self catering. However, sufficient breakfast bowls do need to be available each day. They were available for 2 out of 3 days. Otherwise, everything was great.
- Sarah (7/5): Nice place but won’t be going back as no breakfast - It was very nice a shame we didn’t have breakfast as we booked for breakfast and then they said not doing breakfast anymore which was the reason we booked to stay there,so won’t be going back there Breakfast
- Anonymous (5/5): All in all a very disappointing break. - The people running the property were very friendly and helpful, and it was clean The room was not serviced for the three days we were there, so tea bags and coffee weren’t replenished, although available in the lounge, but no English tea only speciality tea like Earl Grey or Camomile so landed up buying our own teabags more expense. Stairs were a bit dangerous as it is an old house, so the stairs are not straight up but with sharp bends so have to be very careful especially for elderly people. Didn’t find out until too late to cancel that breakfasts weren’t provided anymore, were stopped a couple of weeks previously. Booked it as a B&B but ended up as just B !! so had to walk 20mins into Eastbourne to get breakfast which added more expense to our break.
- David (8/5): Lovely stay - Great hosts
Lovely breakfast
Very clean
Comfortable bed
Great location I understand that from August this G.H.eill be an express not serving breakfast , I think this would be a mistake the breakfast in the relaxed dining room was a great start to the day.
- Ian (9/5): Very nice stay and hotel - Lovely location and a great view from the room. perfect for seeing Eastbourne and area. Breakfast was very nice, the scrambled eggs with tomato are excellent. Pillows a bit flat and could do with refreshing, it would be well worth putting a fan in the room as if there is not a breeze it gets a bit hot
- Jennifer (7/5): The bed and breakfast was ideally suited for visiting my family. - The breakfast was cold but a good variety .
Just in the right location for me. Nothing
- Linda (10/5): - Had a fabulous stay at the Devonia. I was very late arriving and the staff kindly waited for me. Nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely stay there again 😊
- Terry (8/5): Very good -
- Lisa (8/5): Ok - Hotel was clean and very friendly and helpful.Have only run hotel for 3 weeks so the breakfast wasn’t what I expected would of liked a cooked breakfast as detailed but was basic cold food and toast.
- James (2/5): Wouldn’t recommend. - A few weeks before our stay we received an email explaining that the new owners had just taken over and they were unable to provide a cooked breakfast as the kitchen was being refurbed. We never heard any drilling or banging nor did we see any tradesmen’s vans. We had what we would loosely call a continental breakfast. The meat and cheese was not covered, which is basic hygiene. Not impressed. We stayed for 4 nights. After the first night, our room had not been cleaned, we were told it was due to covid and no other places cleaned rooms which is rediculous. It was cleaned on subsequent days. The previous reviews were made when the previous owners were there. It states there is a car park, yes there is, but only 3 places are available.
- Jenny (7/5): Generally all facilties available on site. - Breakfast was reasonible, with several choices, but no cooked breakfast available due to works in kitchen. Cooked breakfast being available.
- Teresa (9/5): Superb - Staff friendly Was having kitchen redone so no cooked breakfast has provided with a continental instead
- Gary (7/5): All in All a good 2 night stay - The bed room was very clean and a good size room. The bed was large & comfortable. Tea & coffee tray , always a good touch. Its just across the road from the beach. we walked into centre, but for those less able a car / Taxi would be wise. we were in room 3 over looks the back street, but it was fine with us. We did have crossed wires regarding keys on arrival, but the issue was soon sorted. The owners are new ,they have only just taken over this b&b, so it is understandable they will have teething problems. the owners were friendly & polite. This is not a criticism, The shower was not as hot as we like it & not very powerful. But the bathroom was clean and it had heated towel holder. there was only room for 2 cars as they were having work done. It was not a problem to us as we got a parking space on the side street at side of the b&b .( Private parking is on a first come first served basis.).
- Alistair (8/5): Very good - Clean and fresh Distance to to town centre
- Shubham_gangpuri (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): when we checked in it was a great welcome very kind well spoken took us to our room very good room -
- Clare (10/5): Great stay - Beautiful room, very clean and staff were very friendly. Would recommend to family and friends There was nothing we didn't like
- Terence (10/5): Exceptional -
- Justin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Judy (9/5): very good - convenient for shop and beach, also for visiting relatives. nothing
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional - Hotel was lovely and cosy, we enjoy our stay and the food. Definitely use again. Lovely friendly owners
- Vicki (9/5): Superb -
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Freddch (9/5): excellent place - Excellent place to enjoy the traditional English lifestyle.
Charming landlord
- Andrzej (9/5): Superb - clean, nice duvets, tea and coffee in the room, free bottled water, nice breakfest room a small library/reading room would make a good addition
- Mick (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was good food accommodation and close to all amenities
- Surinder (8/5): Very comfortable - excellent breakfast.
- Nyasha (10/5): Devonia rocks! - The host was friendly and accommodating. We got a standard room.It was spotlessly clean,we stayed for 3 nights a cleaner would come round replenishing toiletries and making the bed. The beach is a stone throw and the city centre is a leisurely walk away.
Breakfast was amaizing, a few choices.
We will def go back to Devonia N/A
- Judy (10/5): Lovely - All was good
- Katharine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (8/5): Relaxing break by the sea - Lovely seaview. Free parking.
- Malkit (8/5): Great place to stay for a short break -
- Anonymous (10/5): this was our first time staying here and found the hotel to be very clean, lovely staff and a good breakfast. - very clean room, really good breakfast and friendly staff nothing
- Colin (10/5): Could not have been better😊 - Breakfast a Great a meal to set you up for the day. Plenty of tea & coffee and biscuits in room. Lovely peaceful hotel with very friendly owners. Will stay again All of it 5 star
- Terry (10/5): Very good a lovely experience - Very good every thing you could think of Nothing
- Steven (6/5): Pleasant -
- Arline (9/5): Superb - Lovely welcoming staff and excellent breakfast
- Lesley (9/5): Most enjoyable - Breakfast was very good a nice variety. The location was great close to most things. Nothing I can think of
- John (10/5): Excellent guest house. Can highly recommend - Well managed homely guest house. Nice location and not having a bar saved me a few quid. Brisk walk to Town was welcomed bonus
- Janet (10/5): Excellent stay in a clean and comfortable guest house with lovely hosts. - Excellent stay. From the moment we arrived, we were given a warm and friendly welcome. The room was large and comfortable. The bathroom, although small, was clean and functional. The breakfast was superb. Quality ingredients, cooked to order. Plenty of choice. There was a small fridge in the dinning room for guests to use, and complimentary bottled water.
- Sarita (10/5): wonderful stay, lovely hosts - excellent breakfast - lovely bright breakfast room. hosts were very engaging - even made an omelette for me - which was great. everything very nice.
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Deborah (9/5): The place perfectly matches the photos and excellent reviews - The bedroom and dining room we're spotlessly clean. Everything is so well organised, from water in the fridge to the allocated tables for each room. The owners were so helpful. Didn't eat breakfast which is why iam not commenting on the food! The room was warm even with the windows open. There is a small fan in the room which was definitely appreciated.
- Louise (8/5): Value for money - Lovely little guest house! The lady who runs it was hospitable and nothing was too much trouble. Cleaning lady was also very friendly and chatty. We visited during some very hot weather, there was a fan ready in the room and bottled water available in the dining area - this was much appreciated. Breakfast was nice, lovely fresh fruit and cooked to order hot food. The location is quiet and about 10 mins walk from the town centre, which was a bit rowdy so we were glad to stay a bit further up the promenade. The room was basic but comfortable and exceptionally clean. Would recommend this place as it's good value for money. Parking could have been better explained and the wifi signal wasnt great.
- Barbara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (10/5): Lovely stay on the sea front. - Lovely breakfast cooked to order.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (10/5): Lovely stay would recommend Devonia. - Breakfast was delicious. Room was lovely and Carolyn was lovely too.
- Davina (10/5): Fantastic - The owner was very helpful, polite and was only to eager to help in what ever the question or request Everything was lovely. No issues
- Roland (10/5): Exceptional - The best breakfast I have ever had - no wish left unfulfilled.
The room was very clean and tidy and furnished with love. We slept very well, like babies.
Carolyn and Terry were also very nice and it was always great to chat with them. We enjoyed it very much and if we are in the area again we will not hesitate to come back.
- Karen (10/5): Great Accommodation! ⭐️ - Good all round guest accommodation, friendly, good service, clean, good location across the road from the promenade, plenty of free parking and the breakfast was fab! absolutely no negatives…but my single room was up 2 sets of stairs, so that may be a consideration for me in the future…but I hope not!
- June (7/5): lovely two night break - breakfast was lovely when we booked we new the room was small and shower was small my husband kept bading is arms on the size shower' will need a bigger room next time.
- Tamer (7/5): Good - Cooked breakfast was nice. Breakfast room could do with music perhaps. it is awkward to sit and eat there as it's so quite. Perhaps I had too high expectations when I saw a 4 star property. it's a nice and clean B&B. That's all.
- Carole (10/5): Comfortable and friendly stay - We chose a continental breakfast as weather very hot. We were given a range of options to have.
- Guy (10/5): - All good
- Michael (10/5): All good would say again - The breakfast and choice was great
- Kerstin (10/5): a wonderful stay. I would really recommend this price worthy and nice bed and breakfast - So nice hosts! and the breakfast was delicious! Our room was a bit warm when the sun came in.
- Rema (8/5): Very good -
- vicky (10/5): Lovely stay - Very comfortable and a treat to have a seaview.
Breakfast simple just right for me really delicious Carolyn was very helpful
- Jane (10/5): - There is nothing not to like about this property. Friendly & welcoming owner, delicious breakfast, comfy bed & the room was lovely (ours had a super view of the sea). We would stay here again on any future trip to Eastbourne.
- Rodney (10/5): Excellent Hotel - A very comfortable room with sea views.Excellent food at breakfast time with my wife fully suported with Gluten Free items. Would come back for a 2nd time. Nothing was too much trouble. Well done.
- David (10/5): Pleasant 3 days in Eastbourne - My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the Devonia. Our room was very clean, and well appointed. There was plenty of choice for breakfast, the cooked breakfast was lovely and there was plenty of it. Carolyn and her husband were very friendly. We would go back.
- john (8/5): - The Devonia hotel is a lovely clean hotel , well run by Carolyn Jane and her husband , breakfast was lovely , rooms are well equipped , literally over the road from the beach , quiet area , would probably benefit from using a car if not a great walker as it is a fair distance from the town centre if walking , good bus network though aswell
- Rose (10/5): Highly recommend. - What a beautiful place to stay. Definitely will be coming back. Fantastic view and scenery. Would highly recommend staying here. Caroline was a great host and so friendly too. Our room was beautiful and both had great night sleep. Thankyou for having us.
