Guest Reviews
- Brian (8/5): - Good basic accommodation. Provided evening meal despite not booking it. Very friendly staff and super nights sleep
- Sarah (10/5): - I had a really peaceful overnight stay here. Super hosts and excellent breakfast.
- Alexis (10/5): - Incredibly kind hosts that went out of their way for me, allowing me to check in early as well as giving me a lift back into town for a wedding. Real, genuine people. Delicious home cooked breakfast arranged the night before. Secluded property off a gravel lane with only nature's noise to be heard. A real off-the-beaten-path gem. Loved being able to see donkeys, rabbits, and other wildlife right from my window. Great shower, warm bedding, and comfortable bed. Only qualm was that the walls were a bit thin and I could hear some other guests chatting in the middle of the night, but wasn't too loud so was still able to sleep. Will definitely stay again if we are in the area. Thank you for a lovely stay!
- Stephen (10/5): Nice quiet place to stay. - Very quiet location. Away from everything. Friendly and helpful host. Enjoyed cooked breakfast too. Tea and coffee available in the dining area. Rooms comfortable. Had a good night's sleep.
- John (10/5): - Lovely stay at the Woodlands. The owner and his wife couldn't be nicer people. It's a nice change from the homogenised and impersonal experience you normally find at the typical chain hotels.
The setting of the place was so nice aswell. Lovely trees, beautiful countryside and the nice older buildings... it made it feel unique.
Breakfast was excellent and the whole vibe of the place was relaxed. I would stay here again!
- Tony (10/5): Relax... - Great place for an escape, great host, lots of walking tracks around, and routes into Ely, very relaxed atmosphere. 10/10
- Christian (10/5): - Fantastic property and great owner who went above and beyond to make our stay a pleasent one.
Stayed to watch a concert at Audley End. Good transport options. Lovely breakfast.
- ANNE (8/5): - The hosts, Sean & Jane were most accommodating and very friendly. Our accommodation is pretty much self-contained. Could do with a little bit of decorating but on the whole very good
- J (10/5): - My stay was excellent. The breakfast was really very good and Sean the owner went 'above and beyond' to ensure everything was done to make my stay perfect.
Will I be going back? I certainly will.
- Manoj (10/5): - Excellent breakfast. Very friendly owners. Suggest you call before for precise directions as the location from Expedia on Apple Maps is about a mile before the hotel
- Paul (8/5): Nice - Good
- David (8/5): One night in Ely - A lovely spot , very peaceful friendly owner and good breakfast.
- mark (8/5): - Suitable for us. Track to property needs a lot of work
- Stephen (8/5): - Pleasant stay, facilities are adequate enough for me the buildings could do with a bit of touching up but everything works
- Nigel (10/5): - Great stay really quiet in the middle of nowhere which for us was great. Nature was all around us (rabbits everywhere) the only down side was the WiFi yes they are on copper cables but maybe they could do with a WiFi extender as we couldn’t get WiFi in our room but that does not detract from what a great place it was.
- Christopher (10/5): - Although I arrived very late the host was very helpful. There were no problems with the accommodation
- Peter (10/5): - This was an an enjoyable experience, particular for a sole traveller. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and the proprietors were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast (which was very good food) was an enjoyable social experience meeting other guests that you do not tend to get with staying at a larger chain hotel. Very relaxing and quiet rural location, easy for getting out and visiting Ely or Cambridge.
- Cheryl-Anne (8/5): - Host was very welcoming and made the stay easy & comfortable. Very rural and basic facilities but charming, relaxing in its own way. Breakfast was well cooked and delicious. I would stay again.
- Daniel (10/5): Amazing stay! - Stayed over for the night as I working in the area. Incredibly fantastic price for what I got. Beautiful stay in countryside. Really nice and friendly. Amazing cooked breakfast in the morning! Couldn’t recommend enough. Would definitely stay here again.
- Peter (10/5): Fenland Retreat - Lovely stay in Fenland. Loved the field full of rabbits.
- Mr (6/5): Not what we were expecting. - Not what we were expecting from the photos and reviews. The host was really good and the breakfasts were lovely excellent, but our room was anything but. There was mould on the bathroom ceiling, and the radiator was coming off the wall. The furniture in the conservatory is falling apart.
- Frank (10/5): Woodlands mar 25 - A bit off the beaten track with a rough road but excellent accommodation and nice breakfast.
- David (8/5): Good value room near Ely - Exceptional value stop over for the night. En suite room in a row of cabins, comfortable and warm room with easy open window if ventilation needed. Very friendly welcome from host. village of Witchford within a few minutes drive or equally easy to drive into Ely city centre.
Had to leave early so didn't get to sample breakfast but had sausage sandwich in fridge of breakfast room which has 24hr tea / coffee making facilities.
- Gordon (10/5): Well worth a visit - V good value. Friendly and welcoming. Basic room with 2 friendly mules outside.
The only slight negative was extremely bumpy 200 metres unsupported road to premises. No problem if careful but don't bring your Ferrari! Would definitely recommend for a stay.
- David (10/5): Very good - Very nice stay. Great location for Ely. Welcoming host and lovely breakfast. Would definitely return.
- Darren (10/5): A warm welcome, and well looked after - Comfortable cabins, and a fantastic home cooked breakfast. Yes, the drive is a bit potholed, but the welcome is second to none. I had a home cooked evening meal, which the host will provide for a reasonable cost. It is lovely to be out in the countryside - and I felt totally at home. Unfortunately I experienced a flat tire whilst there (a really old tire went pop) and the host was so kind - he sorted me out with a replacement tyre to keep me on the road for my meetings. I will book again, and take my wife for a quiet retreat to the country - and look forward to meeting the host once again. A lovely man.
- Malcolm (8/5): - Will visit again.
- James (10/5): Great welcome - Great welcome, comfortable clean room and a good night's sleep. Really good cooked breakfast.
- Alan (10/5): - Lovely warm welcome when we arrived. Breakfasts brilliant and vegetarians catered for. Only had to ask out host if we wanted anything extra. Very efficient radiators that warmed the room and en suite very quickly. Would definitely stay again.
- Allen (10/5): - Excellent accommodation, just right for a stop over.
- Patrick (10/5): - Very peaceful and quiet. Excellant service.
- Zarine (8/5): - You - Hotels.com - list the property as Wilburton. That's wrong. It's Witchford, about 4 miles from Wilburton.
I learned that I have been charged for two people in a twin room whereas I booked for just myself. I'd appreciate a refund. Your website isn't terribly clear.
The property is very pleasant. Enjoyed my stay. Lovely breakfast, friendly & accommodating host, excellent shower and good night's sleep.
- Brian (10/5): Woodlands September 24 - Great place to stay. Area is quiet and breakfast is available from 6.30am which is good for those of us that are working
- Alan (10/5): - Great host, lovely breakfasts and good size rooms.
- Brian (10/5): The Woodlands September 2024 - Nice small chalet style unit in good condition. Breakfast available by request at 6.30am which is great for those of us that need to be on site early. Nice breakfast freshly cooked to order.
- Keith (10/5): - Wonderfull host,we were made to feel very much at home. Didn't want for anything.
- Yvette (10/5): - Fantastic location for peace and quiet after the hustle and bustle of sight seeing. A very friendly welcome from the owner who also does a great breakfast included in the price. The rooms are spot on for what you want it for. Always stay there the owner can't do enough for you highly recommend it.
- James (10/5): - Peaceful and quiet.
Lovely people.
no noise
nature sounds
Good Conversations
Interesting other Quest and conversations..
- Steven (6/5): - Host was very friendly and helpful.
Room was rather cramped. Bathroom door needs easing/rehanging. 100m pot-holed track from road to property.
- Andrew (8/5): - Lovely setting in the countryside only drawback is the terrible road conditions driving in to the property. Apart from that I would stay here again. Bed was comfortable
- Sharon (10/5): - Don’t expect the Ritz but be sure to expect a warm, friendly welcome. Breakfast wonderful. Lane is a bit of a challenge that you have to drive down to get to the property, but would we go back…………of course we would!
- Elizabeth (10/5): Best place to relax - What a delightful place to stay, I had travelled all day and the whole setting made me wind down. Hospitality was second to none.
- Janis (10/5): - Amazing service :)
- David (6/5): Good value but.......... - Lovely friendly host, and very good value for money. But I do want to point out a few things you should know.
You won't I've staying that the lovely house your see in the picture but a wooden chalet building to its side.
The walls are pretty thin and you can here even small noises from your neighbouring rooms, including TV and toilet.
The bedside lamp had seen better days and bathroom radiator was full of dust.
By default there's no kettle or tea making facilities in the room. You can take them over yourself.
WiFi was very bad and I could not stream any TV. No usable phone signal with Three.
Breakfast was not brilliant. Veg sausage were awful and no baked beans.
- Rod (10/5): - Great place.
- Jonathan (10/5): - Shaun was a lovey host, and the compact, cozy room was placed in the middle of some beautiful bits pf nature.... rabbits, owls, donkeys, the lot! Thank you very much.
- Verified traveler (4/5): An experience - Stayed one night clean room but a bit musty smelling , Owner Shaun very friendly and helpful, food was not to our liking and was undercooked for our taste , Road approaching was a dirt track filled with pot holes full of water, All in all a weird experience.
- Joy (8/5): - Made very welcome. Warm. Parking and breakfast all fine. An armchair would be nice, but ? enough room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A really warm welcome from the hosts who were great with our late arrival and friendly at breakfast. The family room worked really well for us with two teenagers.
- Robert (10/5): - Absolute gem of a place!
Gorgeous quiet location and wonderful friendly host.
Room was immaculately clean, and the bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in!
Breakfast was fabulous.
Cannot recommend highly enough.
Sean even gave us some carrots to feed the donkeys!
Thanks for a wonderful stay
- Stephen (10/5): - Nice surroundings , comfy bed , hosts were very pleasant and good breakfast , great value for money
- Azaria (10/5): P - Absolutely loved my stay. Lovely host and would definitely stay again. Hidden gem 💎
- ALAN (10/5): - Fine
- Jacqueline (8/5): - The shower was really good and the beds comfortable, though I'm used to a firmer pillow. Breakfast was plentiful (though' no jam for the toast brought ready buttered with the full English.)
On the down side it was odd not having tea/coffee biscuits in the room; that breakfast was brought across outside from the house; there was no hairdryer in the room.
- Dan (10/5): - My stay was very comfortable, the host was very accommodating and friendly and the Breakfast was most enjoyable. The surrounds are lovely and the facilities and amenities very comfortable. Would definite stay again should my work bring me to the area again
- Philip (10/5): Would return to Woodlands - Struggled to find a bit in the dark but otherwise great
- Dale (10/5): Nice spot to stop at… - Friendly, welcoming and helpful.
Stayed before and will stay again…
- Ian (10/5): - The property is well described on the sites and is in a quiet location near to Ely and fairly close to Cambridge.
The proprietor is very friendly and helpful.
- Samantha (10/5): - Lovely quiet countryside location, spotless, comfortable bed and welcoming host
- Fiona (4/5): Sorry but not really our cup of tea - We were really disappointed. The picture made us think we were staying in a farm and we were not. It just felt unloved; although the owner was friendly, the effort put into the accom was really a shame to see. For example the decor was drab, no pictures, a blind had been cut to size with no hem and was left fraying. It does not cost a lot of money to show love and care and creativity. This was really over priced as well. This might be suitable for people away for work but for a couple it was definitely not. We will not return.
- chris (8/5): Clean and comfortable. - Fantastic welcome, extremely friendly host. Clean and comfortable room. Really good shower and an extremely satisfying breakfast.
- Raymond (10/5): Highly Recommended Stay - The room was clean, fresh and comfortable. The breakfast freshly cooked and the surrounding fields full of interesting wildlife. Don't miss the donkeys.
Our host was very welcoming and a good conversationalist. They did everything possible to ensure our stay was enjoyable.
It is ideally located for visiting Ely and surrounding areas.
We look forward to returning on the near future.
- G (10/5): - A very friendly couple and a better one-night stay than any previous B&B s in recent years. simply excellent....
- Patrick (10/5): - Quiet comfortable stay. Excellent value included a cooked breakfast. Less than half an hours drive from Cambridge.
- Bethany (10/5): - Great for nature lovers, lots of wildlife around. Very friendly and accommodating owners.
- Duncan (8/5): Great value - Nice out of the way setting down a potholed farm track, but still walkable to the village pub (15mins). Sean the host is very friendly. Room was clean but basic and needs a refresh: towels were threadbare, radiator in bathroom a bit rusty, door stuck. Breakfast was fine. Shower was excellent. Overall great value for the price.
- Steve (10/5): Ely trip at Jubilee - Friendly host great English breakfast and beautiful country setting. Approach road bumpy but otherwise perfect for my one night stay.
- Andrew (10/5): - Very relaxing lovely breakfast
- Wendy (10/5): Lovely - Lovely place, friendly owner, tasty breakfast and comfy bed.
Really enjoyed my one night stay.
- Ruth (10/5): - Loved the location and the wildlife. Beautiful surroundings
- Alan (8/5): Visit to Ely - Enjoyable country location
- Grahame (10/5): Excellent Stay - Excellent stay and would recommend.
Nice clean room, excellent warm shower and a nice comfy double bed.
Nice quiet location and an excellent full English breakfast in the morning.
Sean was a fantastic host.
- Daniel (10/5): - Once you’ve made it up the potholed drive, you are warmly welcomed by Sean the host. The room was very nice and bed was excellent. Breakfast in the morning was fantastic. Lovely, quiet location and you even have donkeys for company.
- Sandra (10/5): Fantastic, warm, friendly stay! Excellent! - Lovely clean, comfortable and quiet stay. The rooms are located outside the main building. Heating is very good and shower is perfect temperature and pressure. Breakfast was delicious, served very prompt and the owner was very friendly and comical which was lovely. There is 2 lovely donkeys that come to say good morning to you which was also a nice treat. There is nothing bad to be said about this place at all. If i was going to be really picky and this certainly wouldnt put me off returning but the road up to the woodlands is very bad with potholes so just take care driving up it. In all..fantastic couple getaway and look forward to next time!
- June (10/5): - Love this place. So peaceful. We love the rooms and breakfast.
- Francis (10/5): - Great place
- June (10/5): - We love staying here. A great welcome. Breakfast food.
Relaxed place.
Our only complaint....wish the telly was bigger.
- Francis (10/5): - Friendly Host Clean Comfy Warm Room , Lovely Breakfast and Quiet Location. Highly Recommend.
- Lindsey (10/5): - Beautiful, quiet, setting! Perfect for a small break and comfortable accommodation. Host was super friendly and breakfast was fantastic!
Would highly recommend this lovely little retreat.
Great nights sleep and hope to stay again soon 😊
- Vicky (10/5): The woodlands - Sean the owner made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived.
The room was clean and tidy.
The cooked breakfast was one of the best I've had.
The road is a bit bumpy but don't let it put you off.
- Linda (10/5): - Loved everything about my stay. Wonderful hosts, lovely room, great breakfast and lots of wildlife to see. Who could ask for more!
- Paul (10/5): - The Woodlands is located in quiet countryside in the fens very close to Ely. The room was clean and comfortable and the hosts very friendly and helpful. Plenty of choice for breakfast including a vegetarian cooked breakfast.
- mary (10/5): - A return visit to this rural retreat. A very peaceful night spent and we enjoyed a delicious breakfast.
Host Sean is very hospitable and friendly. The local village pub is also worth a visit. Will definitely return and heartily recommend
- Jennifer (10/5): - Great host very friendly and welcoming, the room and breakfast were very good
- Ian (10/5): - I was visiting Ely to attend a James Bond-themed birthday party. When I mentioned this to Shaun (the guest house owner) he offered me a free lift to the party in his Aston Martin!
Very relaxed, nice place. I really enjoyed my 3 night stay.
- Mary (2/5): -
Room was double booked when I tried to check in so could not stay and had to find alternative
- Shiraz (8/5): The Woodlands - It was good
- Allison (10/5): Superb - The accommodation was clean, comfortable and in a lovely rural setting. The breakfast was very good and the proprietor, Sean, was friendly and extremely helpful. We will certainly stay here again if we are in the area.
- Richard (10/5): Nice cointry stay - Excellent breakfast and stay ! Room Lovely .
- Richard (10/5): - I had a most pleasant one-night stay at The Woodlands. Room was clean and comfortable - and it was very quiet. Excellent breakfast in the morning.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Friendly host and comfortable stay ! - We had a lovely stay at this farm cottage. Host was not there when we arrived but had left clear instructions for us. We absolutely did not have any problems finding the place and settling down. Breakfast was good and had a variety of items to choose from the menu. All in all we had a very good and comfortable stay at this place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Sean is a fantastic host. Made to feel welcome from the offset. Free parking on site and a very good standard of room - this booking was for the family suite. The breakfast is good and Sean will even ask for a personal order - catering for dietary requirements very well.
The site itself boasts a great variety of wildlife and the communal areas include plenty of space to sit and watch over the garden.
Sean's knowledge of the local area and willingness to share makes it very easy to plan time around your stay.
This booking was for a single night, but we will definitely look to book again.
- Mrs D (10/5): Great place - What a lovely place, quiet location with a couple of donkeys in a field just up the lane. Room was great. I had a takeaway breakfast both mornings which was perfect but the normal menu & little dining room looked lovely. Would be happy to stay there again.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Great accommodation and hosts - Good, clean accommodation. The bedroom block is separate to dining room and lounge, which are very nice. There is an outside courtyard and bench in very pretty surroundings. The hosts are very helpful and the breakfast is excellent.
The accommodation is set down a private lane, that is a bit rutted. However, being in the countryside, you can see many species of owls etc around the property. The property is about 5 minutes drive from Ely.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nothing at all to dislike. Everything was clean and comfortable, and the host, Sean was really helpful and friendly. Would definitely go there again.
- K (10/5): An excellent stay - nothing was too much trouble! - Had a great 2 night stay at The Woodlands with good views of open fields and plenty of wildlife sightings and sounds. Room was spotless and very comfortable. We ate in both nights, you do have to book and choose from the available menu on the previous day, and the food was delicious. Sean was an excellent host, giving us a friendly welcome and hints about things to do in the area. Would highly recommend.
- Sarah (8/5): Lovely stay - Positives - Sean was an excellent host, really friendly and welcoming. The room layout was great for a family, an adjoining twin and double room with a bathroom in between. Breakfast was lovely, and our host went out of his way to provide what we and the children would like to eat.
The only negative would be the mattress on our double bed was very soft and I couldn’t get comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Vey comfortable, excellent quiet location and attentive host
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great hosting, nice quiet rural location. Room very good and use of very nice conservatory area for relaxing in.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Relaxing, comfortable, wonderful! - Extremely warm and friendly welcome, lovely people (and donkeys!), calm and relaxing surrounding. Slept very well after one busy day, and had the most wonderful breakfast to set me up for another. Highly recommended, thank you very much.
