Guest Reviews
- Trevor (9/5): A comfortable stay with character - Could have done with a glass in the room for drinking water
- gary (9/5): -
- Dawn (6/5): Ok for an overnight. - Close to town, restaurants and walks. The breakfast was excellent. Room was very creaky, floorboards and bed. No hangers in the wardrobe. Also very noisy from music bar outside on the Friday night and revellers on the street.
- Abi (8/5): Absolutely lovely. Would visit again. - The accommodation is well situated. It's really nice having a wine bar downstairs! The room was clean and had everything you would expect. The parking was difficult. Although the parking is in short supply all round llangollen.
- Zoe (8/5): Short but sweet, we enjoyed exploring a new place, and the staff were helpful, breakfast was lovely and the room comfort - Very central, lovely character There is no parking, there is a car park that fits about 5 cars but no space available when we arrived
- Nicola (4/5): Over priced compared to other hotels in the area as we stay most weekends . - Have stayed here before this time had a completley different experince .
Room was poor hot water was a tricle that took ages , the bed was awful and not comfortable at all , there were tiles off in the bathroom , electrics such as lazy betty held on with a brace . I gave never given a bad review before but my partner and i agreed that it was the worst night we have spent in a hotel , the room was number 5 .
- Benjamin (8/5): -
- Kathryn (9/5): Easter break - Great location, a nice room. Loud music from outside bar.
- Warwick (9/5): Really enjoyed - Friendly atmosphere with great staff and cosy wine bar Nothing
- william (8/5): Great little town with lots to see and do - breakfast was excellent. Staff very friendly A little noise from night life Saturday night
- Fitzpatrick (8/5): - Location and simplicity
- Christopher (10/5): -
- Bryony (7/5): - Lovely staff, very happy to help. Room was comfortable and functional. A little bit tired and basic. That was fine for us - we just needed a bed before a race - but probably not somewhere we’d choose for a holiday visit. Very fair for the price, though.
- Whinham (10/5): -
- Lydia Langgaard (8/5): Perfekt beliggenhed og hyggeligt sted! - Beliggenheden er perfekt! Og vi var heldige at få en parkeringsplads i gården. God seng, godt tryk i bruseren, hyggeligt værelse. Lidt fugtskader på væggene. Tæppet var beskidt eller også trængte det til at blive skiftet ud. Man får 6£ til morgenmaden, hvilket vil sige at “hele morgenmaden” ikke er inkl i opholdet.
- Elise (6/5): - It needs to be clear if Breakfast is included. Our booking said it was, until we got a message about vouchers, we never got the vouchers and in the end when we asked after the breakfast it turned out we only got a £12 discount, even when we pointed out that the booking and message where confusing and contradicting.

- Rob (10/5): So different from the other bland hotels. - 4th time staying and I’ll be back. Character of the place, food and good vibe. I stayed when it was talent night so nice to experience. Nothing
- John (9/5): Comfortable room in historic building- friendly staff - Great location- comfortable room.
- Nicole (6/5): Beds were comfortable, location was good. Morning staff were very lovely and breakfast was very nice. Woukd stay again b - It was in the centre of the village We requested 3 times to have our rooms next to each other. We had 2 children with us and needed rooms close which we were told would be fine. On arrival we were on 2 separate floors so could use one room . We all had to sleep in the one room. We are unsure why we were made to book to rooms on booking.com as we were happy to share a family room with 4 beds but this was not an option. We mentioned this to staff the next day and we had our breakfast refunded and offered a possible refund of the 2nd room which we never received.
- chris (10/5): - Again an excellent overnight stay. Fantastic location with parking. Our go-to gaff for an overnight in Llangollen. Location.Excellent breakfast and Parking.
- Mike (8/5): -
- Chloe (8/5): - Very nicely decorated room with a really comfortable bed. All the staff we saw were very friendly. Great location in the town.
- Bernard (9/5): Had a lovely stay. Would definately go back. Thanks to all at Gales. - Great stay. Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast. Great location in town.
- Tom (10/5): -
- Jen (6/5): Lovely location and staff but the room was lacking storage and a way to cool down - Location was great and enjoyed the food and music The room was way too hot as the window couldn’t open properly, and when we requested a fan bone was available so its was pretty uncomfortable for three warm nights. I was also surprised not to have any wardrobe space.
- Andrew (8/5): - Friendly staff Nothing really all fone
- Paul (9/5): - Nice room comfy bed staff were great chef cooked some great food
- Phil (8/5): Peaceful - Old fashioned N/a
- Charlotte (10/5): -
- Helen (10/5): Excellent weekend break - Location was excellent
- Darbyshire (10/5): - Staff helpful and friendly. Food brilliant. Bed and pillows were so comfortable Nothing
- Jamie (5/5): Obviously in transition between management - Food was good as was the central location The facilities were tired , the shower control didn’t work properly.
Friendly but disorganised
- Paul (9/5): - Great to see the Gales team again, treat yourself to a comfortable weekend away in a charming town, with plenty to do. There was a bit of rain, but it's Wales!
- Cathy (9/5): - Friendly staff and comfortable accommodation
- martine (1/5): -
- mike (8/5): Very pleasant stay, as previouus experiences at Gales. 👍 - Great location and nice accommodation, have stayed before and will return. Lovely place with good atmosphere. Poor lighting in the room and windows a bit draughty, but it was warm enough
- Nick (8/5): -
- Chris (9/5): Comfortable and welcoming- would certainly recommend. - Location was excellent- very central. Staff always around and very pleasant and helpful. We were able to park the car in the courtyard behind the bar. Breakfast was excellent, freshly cooked to order with the best ingredients, with a £6Voucher each towards cost.
Characterful feel about the wine bar with music most evenings. Our washbasin had no plug🙁
- Polly (9/5): -
- Michael (9/5): -
- Mandi (10/5): Excellent, fully recommended - Great facilities and lovely staff Nothing
- Benjamin (7/5): -
- Johnston (10/5): -
- Phil (1/5): Get rid of hotel from here to stop others getting caught!! - When we got there the property was closed and looked abandoned
I don’t know why it’s still on booking. Com??
We were also asked for payment before we went which we paid!!
We are expecting a full refund.
It was also upsetting as I had been the person who arranged this and several other stays and I have little confidence with booking. Com at the moment It was closed!!!!!
- Rose (9/5): - Great breakfast
- John (8/5): -
- Dave (9/5): -
- Shirley (8/5): - Fantastic location for us. Breakfast was really lovely with a great choice. Rooms were very clean and the bed was really comfortable. Staff were really nice and friendly. N/A
- Aidan (10/5): Great stay, we’ll look after by Steve. - Lovely hotel, perfect location. No dislikes
- Beverley (10/5): -
- David (8/5): Great location and easy to check in - Good location. Easy to check in. Key was in the room so didn’t have to find anyone to check in Pillows on bed were very hard and there wasn’t a light near the bed
- Steve (8/5): - Friendly staff, good food
- Matthew (10/5): If you’re coming to Llangollen then this is easily one of the best places to stay. It’s that simple. - Quaint, clean.
The loft room (7) was stunning.
The staff are excellent. It’s hard to fault.
- Lauren (3/5): Avoid - Coffee at breakfast.
Comfortable bed. No parking - remove from advertising, false claim - it's first come 1st serve for 5 spaces Inc patrons of bar.
Music on til late and no double glazing / no sound proofing so not restful (bar/garden which rooms above full of teens/ underage drinkers). WiFi didn't work in room. Bathroom, carpet and cups dirty. Pubes and hair in shower and bathroom, carpet stained and needed vacuum. Complained but sent no one to get sorted. Feel ripped off for price - would have gone somewhere cheaper with no parking as standard if known. Pretty easy going but expect a level.of cleanliness for that price!
- stephen (8/5): -
- Toby (8/5): Weekend Stay - Central Location, character property, small car park and great coffee!! Weak shower.
- Karen (10/5): - We loved our stay at Gales. Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic and location brilliant. We hope to return again. Thanks for having us.
- Doug (5/5): - Quite spacious with character.lt was in a good location. It was advertised having parking which was important to us.When we arrived there was nowhere to park as all the spaces were taken. When I enquired they just said parking was on a first come first served basis and l had to find parking elsewhere. The place didn't look particularly dirty but there was a used Elastoplast on the window sill so cleaning must of been poor.
- Paul (7/5): -
- Sabina (10/5): - The location is perfect. The room was good and breakfast is excellent.
- Carole (9/5): -
- Anna (6/5): -
- Sandra (8/5): - Omgeving is er prachtig! Had een langer verblijf verdient!
- Anne (8/5): -
- Damien (7/5): -
- Louise (1/5): At £120 a night I absolutely expect far better than we experienced, wI not use this one again and e booked here on the b - The location was central We knew parking was minimal so we telephoned that afternoon to advise we would be checking in at around 5pm and to aka if there would be parking available and if not to ask where the closest carpark was. The person that answered the phone immediately said “you do know you haven’t paid yet” to which we explained that we had booked through booking.com and our reservation was payment on arrival. To which he responded“well before you do anything when you arrive you need to pay, and we are very busy so you’ll have to find somewhere else to park”. He was not at all helpful and didn’t offer any alternative carpark locations.
When we checked in we had to queue at the bar behind customers who were buying drinks, which isn’t a problem but the fact that the person behind the didn’t look up once to acknowledge anyone waiting was awful.
The room: the light switches did not work, we had to leave the bathroom light on when we went out so that we would have some light to see by when we returned later that night. The bathroom door did not close properly, when you are sharing a twin room with another person that is just not good enough in terms of privacy! There was no plug hole in the sink - it has been removed. The sink was cracked. The seal around the show tray looked like it had never been cleaned.
There was a huge oceans print on the wall, however the frame had clearly been broken and had been glued back together and looked awful. One wall light looked like it had been pulled off the wall and stuck back on, with paint and plaster chipped around it .
There was a large TV on the wall but it didn’t work properly - the bottom 6 inches of the screen just flickered constantly suggesting that the tv was about to die.
- Lynn (8/5): -
- mark (7/5): Overnight stay in Llangollen - Great location in the centre of town plus parking too. Rooms a little dated and expensive for what you get
- Gail (9/5): -
- Peter (5/5): A bit disappointed with the condition of hotel. Expensive considering no breakfast included - Location Out dated,
No wardrobe, no plug in sink,
Looking a bit tired
No breakfast included
- John (8/5): -
- Tomas (9/5): - We had wonderfull breakfast (extra paid). Becuase during our stay there was a concert in the backyard, we experienced full english pub atmosphere :) Bar also serves a variety of local wines. Parking place was limited just for 4 cars, so we parked at the street.
- Alex (10/5): Fantastic room, just what we needed! - Location, facilities and easy access Nothing, it was great
- Catharine (8/5): Good location - Great location with convenient parking, quirky room with character (possibly a bit too much character) Bed frame in room 3 makes very loud noise when you sit on the bed/get in or out. No hot water in the morning & a bit tight for space in the bathroom...& a lot of stray hairs =/ A bit shabby for the price.
- Yvonne (6/5): Convenient - Location convenient for event Change in focus of the establishment was disappointing. Felt more like a room in a pub rather than the wine bar it was last year.
- Suzanne (10/5): Lovely hotel - Courtyard bar area is a hidden gem The cost was hugely inflated due to a band on at the Pavilion that weekend
- jay (10/5): -
- Janet (10/5): - Lovely room , full of character, four poster bed exposed beams, breakfast was fantastic.
- Carys (6/5): -
- Roy (8/5): -
- Helen Mair (1/5): Did not happen as we could not access the property located - Unfortunately we were unable to stay as, although we booked earlier in the day through Booker.com the info did not pass through to Gales so we were left stranded. We had to find alternative accommodation which was short notice and stressful m As above
- Nicholas (6/5): Old style bar with bed and breakfast. - Hand for the town and railway line. The small car park with tight entrance. Not suitable for disabled, no plug in sink. Noise from other guests returning in the early hours.
- Ian (8/5): - Food excellent. Staff vey friendly. Parking. Central location
- Ian (8/5): It was perfect for a short stay, but I would like more for longer. - Location and car parking in the town. Limited breakfast and uncomfortable pillows.
- Sharon (7/5): -
- Kirstie (10/5): - Fantastic character accommodation.
Great bar, delicious food.
Perfect location.
Highly recommend.
- Geoffrey (7/5): - Really enjoyed the veggie breakfast.
- Steve (8/5): -
- Head (7/5): Clean and tidy room good amount of teas and coffee available just disappointed with the car park sit - Location was fine for what we needed Didn't like the car park situation as I had to leave my car a couple of streets away as only about 6 spaces this wasn't described very accurately
- Tony (10/5): Tony - The room was lovely and homely lots of character. Very comfortable bed and th staff were very helpful Right in the middle of town
- wilson (9/5): -
- Jane (5/5): - Location Tv didn't work place needs lots of work
- gerry (8/5): Nice friendly bar/hotel- great staff, nice food in a great location. Very enjoyable stay aand would definitely retu - Nice property in a perfect location. Great staff and lovely breakfast. Comfortable bed. Very small bathroom and weak shower. 10am check out.
- JennieP (10/5): Great place to stay with friendly staff. - Friendly staff, huge comfortable bed, and most importantly safe storage inside the building for our 2 bicycles. The staff went out of their way to provide safe storage for the bicycles. Nothing- all good.
