- Stephen (8/5): Really fine staff including the housekeeper. Quiet functional bedroom out back. Secure parking. - The breakfast was good, especially the sausages and black pudding. Jamie the breakfast chef was particularly helpful. The evening meals were well cooked and the waiting/bar staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Parts of the main pub building looked a bit tired and the modern arty bits were out of character with the rest of the decoration.

Bed was comfortable and having the private bathroom was a real plus. Overall a very good quality price value. Bathroom could have been cleaned a bit more, there was some hair left. The first night people were loud in the room next to ours so we could hear them, we banged the wall and it stopped. The last morning, we didn't have hot water available for the shower, maybe it was fixable but we signaled only on departure.

Cleaners obviously couldnt be bothered to reach it. Breakfast was abysmal,"hot food"was stone cold and no attempt by girl to replenish items until fuss made by other guests.Coffee had run out same issue reluctantly resolved...Worst Breakfast experience ever.A brilliant location and premises with no love whatsoever.All residents were of the same opinion...Would not return.

- Felstead (10/5): Fits the Bull perfectly, Enjoy - Excellent purpose built accommodation behind the 16th Century Public house. Peaceful location, on site secure parking. Our first introduction picking up the keys was met with helpful interactions in the public house. Had previously ordered an evening meal for 19.00 that evening, enjoyed the food and drink with great table service. Finished our meal with drinks seated by a log fire that was kindly lit for us! Great atmosphere matched by lovely and attentive staff. Spent 2 nights at the Bull on the Green and enjoyed our stay immensely. Recommended! Good in all ways!

- John (8/5): A good base for a five night stay whilst exploring the area. - Characterful pub in nice village location. Excellent vegetarian option for Sunday lunch. The room was nice and warm which was important in January. Limited vegetarian options on other days.
- Charlotte (5/5): Disappointing - Cosy room and comfortable bed. There was an electric heater which meant it was warm enough. The shower room was disappointing. The loo seat was falling off - I think it was not even attached - and the shower was a dribble. I found an empty can of drink behind a table when I plugged in my phone and plenty of cobwebs. I had a quick dinner in the restaurant and was disappointed that a small bowl of brown soup, which was clearly leftovers, cost £9! Breakfast we equally disappointing. Coffee could have been mistaken for tea it was so weak, no toast and a pre-cooked hot breakfast on the hot plate which looked rather measly when I was the only guest and rather wasted on me. Would have been just as easy to offer to cook for me on the spot…with a lot less waste.

- Harry (10/5): - This pub is a little gem in the Sussex countryside. The staff were very friendly, the bed amazingly comfortable and the breakfast of eggs benedict delicious. My dog and I loved our stay and will be returning.

- Tina (7/5): Damp issue in the bathroom in room 2 not acceptable and so room was over priced! - Room was bright and a good size. Plenty of tea and coffee sachets provided. Damp issue in the bathroom which smelt awful. We were in room 2 which had a fully accessible bathroom (wetroom) which was not a problem in-itself and looked fairly new but did not have a window and evidently an ineffective extractor fan. Rooms are in a separate building behind the pub so no noise could be heard from the pub but we could clearly hear the guests to each side of us and the elephant in the room above.
- Susan (3/5): Very disappointing and overpriced. - Good location and plenty of free parking. Good evening meal in restaurant. Very poor continental breakfast. Breakfast room was dirty, lucky not to put foot in the dog bowl. Available fruit consisted of 2 apples, 2 oranges & a rock hard kiwi fruit which was put out each morning until it finally had a taker. Croissant, pain au chocolate and 1 slice of toast brought out to me on a plate which I felt was my quota for the day. Ran out of milk on first day so given one small UHT instead. No croissant available the next 3 mornings. Order for cooked breakfast, at extra cost, ordered the previous day were lost on 2 of the 4 days we stayed. Mixture of staff, some very helpful, others required some training. Order for evening meal in pub placed on line and accepted was cancelled as pub would be closed that evening. Black mould in shower. Mounting dirt behind radiator pipes, under bed and top of wardrobe. Christmas decks and hoover sitting in breakfast room. Cigarette butts littered around outside areas. No comfortable chair in room to sit in. Stuffy room and windows hard to open so scared of breaking them. Small tv in bad position. Very overpriced. No room service during the 4 days we were there. Such a shame as with a few easy changes, this could be a wonderful place to stay.

- Vicky (7/5): Good for a short stay - The room was spacious and accessible bathroom excellent too. It is a good location in the small village of Newick, being right in the centre with its own free parking. It was good value for what we paid. There was confusion about the breakfast, which was included with our room booking but not with other(more expensive) rooms. The croissants were good, and the coffee, but the cooked offerings were dry and not hot enough. The bedroom needs a second bedside lamp.

The kettle was dangerous over an electric extension lead. The bulb needed changing on the bedside lamp & while trying to reach it to turn on we noticed that behind the headboards had not been dusted for a while.

The sink over toilet was useless to wash in and impossible to get water into the kettle. TV on bureau was very makeshift. Bedside lamp was regularly flashing and needed replacing. We have had to stay in the area many times in the last 6 weeks and this was the worst value, even with some health and safety concerns.

- Coast to Coast (7/5): I enjoyed it because Newick is such a good location, a quiet place for a country weekend. - The building with the letting rooms is separate from the pub .... so it was quiet ... no matter what might be going on at the pub. You can do country walks straight from the accommodation and there is lots of stuff on your doorstep eg Sheffield Park Gardens, fishing ponds etc. A nice cafe and restaurants in easy walking distance, and a lovely bakery almost next door. I booked last minute and got a really good price. My room was so small that there was no chair in it ... so you have sit on the bed. On Saturday night the boiler did not work ... but a guy came out and fixed it, so all good by Sunday morning. I had booked in a hurry and hadn't taken in that the private bathroom for Room 8 is separate and not en suite! So watch out for that. Also, anyone with mobility issues might find some of the rooms a bit tricky to get to. I booked late and got a really good price.

The room is so picturesque with a large bed and stylish bathroom. The beds a little creaky, but its very comfortable...I will be definitely coming back in the future.. The bed is a little creaky, but other than that, its wonderful.
- Christopher (7/5): Good pub but rooms lacking TLC - Staff were helpful and friendly. The beer and food in the pub was good. The room needed a bit of TLC especially in the bathroom, lots of damp damage and a loose tap. Mattresses are too soft for me but that is personal preference.

Just the lack of windows and a view. I get that though as my room was upsatairs in the roof. I am a budget travellor. Id like to have eaten in the pub in the evening but couldnt stretch to their prices. Be good to have a slightly cheaper option.

The mini-basin inset into the top of the toilet cistern was difficult to use for anything other than handwashing and tooth cleaning.

- Helen (4/5): Would not recommend hotel for a stay. - Some of the staff were helpful and friendly. Location and parking were good. Attitude of one member of staff. Fact that room was literally in car park so noise of cars and people talking. Toilet did not flush although rectified immediately. Toilet seat was loose although rectified immediately. Room was very small for price paid. En-suite was in desperate need of an update and redesign. Pillow was so lumpy it couldn’t be used. Well past its sell by date! Mattress was hard (although acknowledge this is up to individual taste). Although booked B&B, on arrival we found out that if we wanted a cooked breakfast there would be an extra charge.

Continental breakfast was a good selection, with a full cooked breakfast an option. Our stay was limited in time as we were passing through and staying for only one night. However, we will stay again in the future. There was nothing we did not like. It was all good, and suited us very well. Next time we will try the menu.

En-suite tiny, basin is so small and is inbuilt on the toilet cistern, impossible to use! Noise from keys in door locks is very disturbing. Window really difficult to slide open, is on the ground floor and large opening so you have to close it at night. You could clearly view one bed through a large open keyhole.

- Tracey (3/5): Disappointing stay - As a family of three we stayed for 3 nights whilst working in the area. Our room was never cleaned, or replenished with new refreshments, such as tea bags, milk or water. We had to make our beds and request clean towels. On our first night, after finishing a days work we came in for dinner to be told the kitchen was now closed. It was 8.30pm. I advised their web page said the kitchen closed at 9pm. The staff were surprised it said that. The second day we returned from work and clean towels were left on an unmade bed and the bathroom light was left on and the ground floor window left open. This window was big enough for anyone to climb through and help themselves to any of our belongings, as our room was at the back of the building. We told the staff about this but all we got was 'oh, sorry'. There was mold in the bathroom, and a large stain on the ceiling we presume was from a leak from the bathroom above us. All this for over £100 a night, I suggest you book elsewhere, as we certainly will.
