• Andrew (6/5): - The room layout is worse than in a typical college dorm - two beds are together and not separate. Practically no closet space and drawer space. Rooms on top floor are under the roof slant that decreases room volume. But the worst thing is the scarcity of bathrooms - there is only 1 bathroom on the 3rd floor and only 2 bathrooms on the 2nd floor. Completely inadequate for the number of rooms in this guesthouse. The quality of rooms and amenities is only 2 stars (or even 1 star). The only nice thing about this guesthouse was the restaurant (good food and service, very reasonably priced) and the friendliness of staff (even though the front desk closes at 9 p.m.)

We wanted to rest and ended up having a terrible night. No one cared about the noise. I asked them if it’s normally like this. Terrible place to stay.

• Audrey (6/5): - Just be aware that this is not a hotel, it is a hostel. We booked a family room and shared a bathroom with the entire 3rd floor which meant it was occupied the majority of the time. Plus there is no shower on the 3rd floor, only on the 2nd. The building itself is nice and the restaurant was actually quite good. The accomodation itself is clean but basic and the bathroom situation is limiting.

• Chris (6/5): - The Guesthouse is situated near the lake with great surroundings. The check in process is quick and the guest room is clean. The staffs we met are very friendly. The continental breakfast is decent for the price. The issues to us were 1) the shared shower rooms and bathrooms; 2) noise from next door. It looks there are only one shower for male and two for female for the entire second floor of more that 20 plus guest rooms. We feel these bathrooms and showrooms are least clean ones we encountered in Iceland. The property is a conversion of a historical building and was not fully sound proof, so you can hear what the noise from next door.

The onsite restaurant was good (there are not many options in this small of a town). Breakfast was oatmeal, cereals, cold meats and cheeses, fruit and vegetables. And pancakes. Very walkable to the Fontana hot springs. Easy access point for the golden circle also.

The shared bathrooms were well maintained and not too hard to find a free shower or toilet. Rooms were huge but the artwork is vintage and could be unsettling for some. Our rooms had an embroidered clown wall hanging… This was a great stay for my group as it was close enough to popular attractions.

• Polly (10/5): - This hotel is also a youth hostel on the ground floor, so there was lots of great energy during meals and in the common areas. Our rooms were comfortable and decorated in the style of an old school- we had a chemistry book on the wall! Delicious meals and warm hospitality as well as a location 1 minute from a great geothermal spa made this first stop on our vacation a favorite. We stayed two nights and enjoyed every minute of our time. The pool table in the basement was a favorite spot.

It was nice having everything to ourselves. We also had a vegan lasagna in the restaurant area and it was delicious. Thanks for a great stay!

• Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay - We had a very nice stay here. Staff were friendly and helpful. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. the bed was comfortable. Tasty breakfast with plenty of choices. It was a short stroll down the hill to the Fontana geothermal baths.

We ate dinner there (not many other options nearby) and were pleasantly surprised! Definitely would recommend if you're in the area!

• Wesley (2/5): Hostel, not Hotel - This is not a hotel and it does not have a pool. Showers are only on certain floors and usually locked. So you will have to take a shower at an odd time of day. Pics are of neighboring Lantana wellness center with pool for additional $40/ day. Worst hotel out of 500 hotels that I have ever stayed in. I asked for full refund due to fraudulent advertising, but was rejected. Motel 6 is better. Also, tiny bathroom towels.
• Tonani (6/5): Beware - This is a hostel. I did have a private bath but I was not expecting a hostel. It was VERY expensive and the online add was misleading with photos of a pool and hot tub. They were advertisements/photos for nearby hot springs that charge $50 per person to use and that's after the discount from the hostel. Would not return.
• Tim (8/5): Great location - This is a unique and interesting place to spend the night. Beautiful location by the lake and walk to Fontana geothermal area. Our room was small, clean and comfortable. Restaurant has delicious pizza. Shoes off at the door, shared bathrooms were not a problem. We would definitely recommend it.
• Craig (8/5): thin walls - The only issue we had was the noise in the hall coming through the door and walls till everyone settled down at night. Otherwise a nice stay and location. Hot spring pool just down the street. Also several restaurants close by.

It was far too expensive for being what it is. Basically toast and yogurt. There is also no hot springs. The pictures make it seem like there is but it’s a place you have to drive to and only get 10% off. It should be mentioned in the posting.

• Courtney (10/5): Great location, clean and comfortable stay! - This guest house is very clean and well maintained. The location was excellent, and we lucked out with a great northern lights show in mid-Sept. Our room was on the 3rd floor, there was no shower on that floor so we went down to the 2nd floor for showers, but not a big deal (no waiting, though the inn was pretty full). The breakfast was excellent, and the house spacious and truly historic. There are many rooms and open areas to relax and read, even a yoga room in the basement. The guests were all quiet and peaceful. Shoes are removed at the entry, which helps to keep it clean. If stairs are a problem, you should request a room on the 2nd floor, an elevator goes up to that level.

Great shared facilities (bathrooms, dining, lounge / library). Also close to fontana - a must visit for a hot springs bath - with a 10% discount. You will thoroughly enjoy your stay!
• Chris (6/5): - Not bad based on all the other hotels I stayed in, but quirky rules and facilities here. Misleading pictures. I thought the pool was part of their facility, but it is a spa near the hotel, not an actual part of the fee of this hotel. Also, no shoes inside the facility is just weird after a long day travel, but thats fine. Just letting the people know.

Has a library etc. This place has sumptuous meals and has nothing to do with being a hostel. Our room had a sea view and we were awoken by the chirping birds each am as we left the windows open. Highly recommended

• Patricia (10/5): Wonderful place to stay - The staff was amazing. Friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. We drove to our guesthouse in Laugarvatn. Check-in was easy. The front desk staff was so helpful. The guy even offered to go home and get his US converter for me and he let me buy it from him later. We brought ours, but the fuse must be blown because it isn’t working. I choose to book us in rural places because our primary focus is looking for the Northern Lights and you need to be away from the light pollution for that. This spot was good, but the hotel is not for light searching. The guesthouse is lit up at night in each of the windows, which make the hotel look super cool, but it would be nearly impossible to see the lights with those shining right in to your windows like they do there. We could see the lights form the parkging lot, but too much light polution there prevented good photographs. We headed out both nights to the south end of Laugarvatn on a desolate road with the lake in front of us and we sat to watch the aurora. God showed us the aurora both nights we were there. Amazing beauty.
• Tam (6/5): - The limit on hours usage was both a plus and negative. The general use area was fun with many games but it's often reserved for first come first serve. I don't like the fact that the whole area's electricity was shut down in the morning. I had to fun for a workable outlet for hot water. On the side note, the location is closed to Bruarfoss--which we hiked twice during our trip!
