Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Closed with no warning. Long drive, doors locked with no redirection
- Graham (10/5): Great Over Night Pit Great. - Another highly recommended pit stop for the weiry business person. Great location. Good food and beer. Nice rooms and veiws.
- John (10/5): - Travelled from Kent that morning for a family gathering. Arrived at 11.15 knowing that booking was from 15.00. Receptionist (Jane) allowed us in as she understood we waned to freshen up before our family celebration at 14.00. Not only that she gave us a complimentary upgrade which gave us great views over Nude golf course. Great laidback hotel where staff are friendly and accommodating. Hope to visit again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great breakfast. Room was small and very noisey as over the bar area and couldn't open curtains during the day when getting ready as there were other rooms and houses looking into our room.
- alan (8/5): Small rooms. - The small double room was very small.
- Dutche (8/5): Very nice hotel right by Crooklets Beach - Stayed 3 nights on 1st visit to Bude. Perfect location for both Crooklets Beach and short walking distance to centre of Bude.
Hotel was perfect for our visit, clean room, friendly staff and very good breakfast. Only feedback was personally like a stronger shower pressure but not a reason to consider elsewhere.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel, good location, staff are friendly, breakfast was lovely
- Helen (6/5): Mixed feelings - It’s a basic hotel right by the beach, but a way from the centre of Bude, so totally depends what you are after. It was just a one night stay for us, for a party, on the wettest weekend of August - so my view is just of the hotel as didn’t get to use the beach. The worst part is the corridors as they desperately need refurbishing, and the plumbing system was noisy - but bed was comfy and the (electric) shower was surprisingly good. Cooked breakfast was well cooked if on the small side (1 saus, 1 rasher etc). The restaurant/bar didn’t do food in the afternoon when we arrived but was busy with young families by 7pm when we went out.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was one of the best hotels inhave stayed at. It was really clean and the location was amazing. Only down side was there was not much parking but the overall experience was great.
- Graham (8/5): Value for money - Looked for a 1 night stay in Bude for business - rates were crazy. Saw this - tried it, very good! Extremely clean and comfortable rooms, nice bar and restaurant - great breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms a bit small but it said that on the booking information and there are bigger available.
Ideal for what I needed.
Will definitely use it again
- Robert (10/5): Beautiful Bude - a gorgeous beachside hotel, delivering everything that we would wish for from our stay. I will certainly be coming back
- debs (8/5): Nice hotel close to coast - Nice rooms. Hotel within walking distance to the beach.
- Sally (6/5): No food - Checked in, went for a walk, changed for dinner and joined a que in the bar to order food, then told the kitchen was closed for 45mins as they couldn't cope, they apologised but really they should have ensured that residents were told to book dinner, after all they only have a few rooms. We walked into town for food.
- Lynne (10/5): Excellent - Great place to stay
- Stephen (10/5): Enjoyed our 3 night stay - Our room on the 1st floor was just about big enough but very clean, the bed was comfortable and we got a good nights sleep. Very friendly staff. Cooked breakfast was very good and we ate one night in the bar (we were told the restaurant was closed. I had whitebait and my wife had a ceasar salad to start which was very good and we both had the fish pie which was recommended and that too was very good. Good WiFi..
- J (6/5): - We had the smallest room I have ever seen. Our room looked out over a roof and ventilation system. Also, the sewer system was right outside the window on the outside walls and subsequently we could hear everything happening above us. The staff was very nice and helpful but we would not stay again because of the room. Breakfast was good.
- Richard (10/5): - Very clean , loads to do in area , polite staff .
- Kando (4/5): Tommy Jacks - Whilst the hotel was clean and staff pleasant, the supper we had was of below average quality. There was a fault with the room WC which backed up with urine from elsewhere in the hotel. Decor dire.
- Zheko (4/5): Disappointing - The room was very small and the boiler produced barely warm water. Food was overpriced for the quality.
Overall would not recommend.
- Steven (8/5): Two day break - The staff at the hotel are really friendly and the food both at breakfast and the evening meal I had in the bar were tasty. Music is not too loud in the bar area and the bar is well stocked.
The hotel is right by the beach and approx.10 mins walk to the centre of Bude.
The room I had was clean and tissues, shampoo/body cream, soap and conditioner were supplied.
A large flat screen television in the room and a free safe which was an unexpected bonus.
I would recommend this hotel to friends and family
- Richard (8/5): Good food - Food was tops
- Philip (8/5): Two night stay - Our first night was disrupted by what turned out to be a loose gutter rattling in the strong winds. Staff were happy for us to change rooms. However the shower was pathetic in 108. Cooked Breakfast was very good and bar/ food was excellent. Great location with parking outside and very close to beach.
- ness (6/5): Nice hotel clos to beach - Beautiful place and surrounding areas ,our room was really small and we had a view of large heating pipe, water pressure was poor ,very nice clean staff helpful .
- Dicky (8/5): I'd rather "Jack" - relaxing
- Damon (8/5): Bude trip - Convenient place, nice and clean with good breakfast , with limited parking so in the peak season would be a problem.
- Annette (10/5): Great customer service - We were impressed during our stay with this family-run business. Great room, pleasant hotel, good location and excellent customer service. We asked for a few taxi numbers from reception and Abbie said she would make the booking for us while we packed upstairs. It was a Sunday morning and she tried 12 different numbers without success (because taxi drivers apparently do not work on Sunday mornings). I could not fault her for her enthusiasm to assist us. GIVE THIS GIRL A PAY RISE... and no, she didn't prompt us for this comment!
- Maria (10/5): Amazing hotel. Recommended!! - This was one of the best hotels we have stayed in, in this country.the room was amazing huge bed lovely view out of bay window and spotlessly clean. The staff were very helpful and seemed happy in their job. Especially Jake who looked after us at breakfast. The only downside of our break was that there is no restaurants or pubs in Bude town to go to at night
- Raizza (6/5): - It was okay ... the room was clean and tidy... the staff were very nice and helpful. The only problem was it was a bit noisy... you can hear people outside and footsteps from above the room....
- David (8/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff. Room a bit crowded, but not a major issue. Good location and FREE parking.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent seafront hotel - Excellent stay, lovely room, amazing bathroom, great sea view. I appreciate upkeep of a seafront hotel in an older building will be expensive and time consuming but it would have been nice if all the windows had opened properly, some were painted shut and another the sash cord was missing so we had to prop it open with a water bottle, however we still had a greater stay and would definitely stay again. Also cannot forget to mention the fabulous breakfast the best cooked breakfast we have had in years!!
- Susan (8/5): Tommy Jacks - Very enjoyable stay and friendly staff. Food was good and service. We had a very friendly welcoming on arrival. Unfortunately our sink was blocked, but overall a good.
- denny (8/5): good location to the beach
- good location close to the beach. friendly staff .good variety,at breakfast either cereals/muesli or cooked breakfast.
- Chloe (10/5): It was perfect location as could walk to the beach - The staff were really friendly and always open for conversation, will definitely be going back!
- WALTER (8/5): TRANQUIL HOTEL CLOSE TO BEACH - VERY PLEASANT TRANQUIL HOTEL WITH AN OUTSTANDING MENU.WOULD NOT HESITATE TO STAY HERE AGAIN
- millie (6/5): rasist staff - I had very bad experience , i have been served coffee with cleaning liquid! The staff was very rasist towards me my child and my husband!.Do not go there if u are not british born!
- Verified traveler (8/5): good location - happy staff .They were very welcoming for our 7night stay.
Nice for evening meal or night cap after being up the town
- Verified traveler (8/5): Amazing location, reasonable, family friendly - Stayed with teenagers in 2 rooms, comfortable but very small, restaurant very American diner, so perfect for teenage boys, not really our cup of tea. Showers totally useless, no water pressure.
On the whole, funky little hotel, awesome location, lovely staff. Would stay again.
- Charlie-Louise (10/5): Good - Good
- Gary (8/5): Modern Surf Design - My fiancée and I had a really lovely stay at the hotel. The staff were very attentive to our needs, providing us with everything that we required. We stayed in a superior room which I recommend as it was nice and spacious (no fighting over bed space). In the restaurant the breakfast selection and the evening food was great, we were impressed with the quality and portions of the meals. I thought having a separate bar area to the restaurant was great for having a few drinks before or after food, again great service on the bar. The aquariums dotted around the areas add a really nice touch to the place, I know if I had taken my niece she would have loved to see all the fish.
- Martin (8/5): Small hotel ideal for families - The hotel is close to the beach and has parking available. The rooms are well maintained with all the basic facilities. The restaurant menu is limited but adequate and the staff are friendly.
- mark (8/5): Very convenient location - Really nice staff, reasonable food, comfortable bed. So easy to walk over to Bude.
Only negative was the wifi. You have to sign in with no privacy on a promise that once signed in you can return to change settings. In the meantime they have access to not only all your browsing history but all data on the device you are using. Unsurprising it is next to impossible to get in and change the settings. Hotel were unable to help as they outsourced the facility. They said they were going to change it, certainly worth checking.
- steve (10/5): - Couldn't fault the hotel, very clean and comfortable unfortunately we didn't eat their so can't comment on the food, we would certainly return.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pleasing - Everything you need from a hotel is provided. Clean room with all necessary amenities, friendly staff, very good location. Recommended.
- Robbie (8/5): Great Location - Very Comfortable King size bed, clean & tidy rooms, friendly & helpful staff, great location for; beach/ surf, golfers (golf course outside hotel) and walkers (great coastal walks).
- R A (10/5): Amazing place - Staff were amazing and very attentive to our needs. They always made sure we were okay. The food was delicious and could not have asked for more.
- Michael (8/5): - Overall great place to stay but rooms are quite small for two people too sleep in. Staff where great. Food was great. will be going back for sure
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good value for money - We'be stayed 2 nights at Timmy Jacks and we enjoyed the stay, service and breakfast. Very friendly staff and clean room and other facilities.
We came by a car so only thing we would say was there were limited car parking space so sometime we were struggled to get the parking space.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great Hotel/Great Location - Super close to the beach.Staff are amazing.
Restaurant for me just OK. Annoyed to see that gluten free is an extra charge. Why should people with severe food issues be punished? Serving gluten free is not rocket science but it does require staff training!
They completely got my meal wrong. But they did adjust the price.
Happy to find out our breakfast was included.
We would definitely stay again. Just based on the staff, location and value for money.
- Retired (8/5): Very close to the beach and sport facilities - All beach and sporting activities just around the corner Bude town centre and Sainsbury store just up the road Bude a bit short on pubs and good restaurants hard to find Apart from all the local attractions the Hotel is also a good base to visit other places e.g. Tintagel, Port Isaac, etc. All in all good value and location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great hotel - Great atmosphere. Great breakfast. Friendly staff. Very comfy standard room
- Richard (10/5): Funky hotel with exceptional service and good food - A funky surf and skate styled hotel in a great location for the beach with fantastic food and customer service. The only downside - the room was a little basic for the price (no view, and next to the electric water pump), but that's probably because its during the school holidays.
- Ann-marie (10/5): Comfortable overnight stay - Lovely one night stay loved tommy jacks we had a compact room on the top floor! Lots of steps and very compact room but sufficient for our nights stay! We were out for the evening for our anniversary anyway but came back to a warm room with a comfortable bed and gorgeous breakfast in the morning! Abit far out to walk into town in bad weather but only a five minute cab journey! Would definitely stay again thankyou :-)
- Verified traveler (8/5): ~Good location - Good location, parking free, Quiet break
Room at front of hotel.
- ryan (8/5): All round good spot..very pleasant. - Good location. Nice bar and restaurant. Friendly staff. Would reccomend to friends.
- Mary (10/5): Close to the beach - Very pleasant hotel with very pleasant staff. Upgraded to superior room which was very comfortable, spacious and had excellent bathroom
- Dawn (8/5): all the staff was very friendly and helpful - had a good time loved the reggae music they played in the background food was great one bad bit was we were put on the top floor and the shower was rubbish and they said they had upgraded us
- John (10/5): nice hotel clean and friendly - nice clean friendly reasonably priced nothing was too much trouble for the staff will definatly stay there again the next time we go to cornwall
- Verified traveler (8/5): Another pleasant stay at TJs - I really like this hotel which is in a great location with friendly helpful staff. Usually a 5* rating but this time we had a small room and such a tiny en-suite shower-room that it was uncomfortable to use. Windows and glasses were dirty and they tried to charge us at the end of the stay when we had already paid when booking-strongly advise taking print-out of payment receipt with you..
- Niffler (10/5): The friendliest hotel we've ever attend in! - Everything about this place is awesome! You'd be hard pushed to find somewhere more welcoming or comfortable! X
- Verified traveler (8/5): Convenient location - Hotel had surf feel, had good facilities, the staff were very friendly
The rooms were clean, enjoyed breakfast
- Joanne (10/5): Lovely relaxed surf hotel. - We had a really lovely, relaxing stay. The staff at the hotel were really friendly and helpful. We ate at the hotel twice and the food was to a really good standard, as a Coeliac I often struggle to find some thing I can have, but there were plenty of gluten free options on the menu.
Breakfast was great too as there was a choice of cereals, toast, fruit and yoghurt plus a cooked breakfast as well as juices and a selections of teas and coffee.
My partner liked that there was a micro brewery at the hotel!
Our room was clean and comfortable, the shower was hot and the towels soft. The hair dryer was a small travel one, which did the job.
I liked that the beach was only a 2 minute walk away and that town was very close too. The staff at the hotel were happy to direct us to places of interest both locally and further away.
- Charlotte (6/5): Short break - We stayed for one night, the hotel staff were friendly and knowledgable. The hotel itself was clean and nicely decorated. I booked a double room not taking any notice of the word compact, and that it was. I would ordinarily book a room with a bit more space. The tv in our room wasn't working so we were quickly swapped into a different room. This room was a lot bigger and we were very pleased, it had great views to the sea and was very clean and comfortable. We would stay again.
- Angela (10/5): Lovely welcoming hotel - Had a lovely relaxing stay ,all staff very friendly and the food was great .
- Mark (8/5): - We had a nice large sunny room overlooking the golf course ,friendly helpful staff ,parking at the front, breakfast ok, modern style ,handy for town and the beach.Only suggestion -could do with a shelf in the bathroom as nowhere to put anything down but room was nice and clean and bed reasonably comfy .one of the nicest hotels in bude in our opinion
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very friendly staff, room comfy and quiet. Breakfast a bit meagre, if only choosing two items from "full" breakfast you only get that portion, not a little bit more to make up for not having everything. Otherwise no complaints.
- Sarah (10/5): Fantastic - Great stay at Tommy Jacks. Loved it.
- woody (8/5): Modern feel close to the beach - The place has a nice modern feel to it whilst keeping a friendly atmosphere.
Our room was ok for a short stay.
The view from our room was very disappointing though, we had a view of brick and a flat felt roof. And we're overlooked by about 6 Windows all within about 10 feet so had no privacy
- Tobie (6/5): Not bad - The good:
Very friendly staff & a warm welcome. Bar & dining area looked nice with good decor. Large bathroom was good with a big bath and walk-in shower. Nice quiet location and only a short 5 minute walk to the beach.
The not so good:
Parking was a nightmare - No available spaces so had to pay to use the long stay car park next door which required renewing every 24 hours so had to be up early every day. Bit noisy at night as could hear other peoples TV's. The food was very average. The "superior suite" was overpriced for what it was.
- Andrew (6/5): Tiny room, nice bar. - Restaurant, bar and service all top notch. Food was impressive and great value.
The room was very small. Needed to walk sideways to get around the bed. Had a view of the noisy kitchen ventilation system.
- Eva (8/5): Nice little place right by the beach - W espent one night in this hotel. Our room was small but comfortable, the sheets and towels were clean, the bed was comfy. The room itself was tiny but in a good condition and came with a small bathroom of it's own which had a shower cabin. A great plus for me as the last place where I stayed only had a bathtub. The room also had a flat screen TV and a kettle.
Neither the rooms or the hotel offers much luxury, but for having a place to sleep for a few nights it is perfect! There is a family friendly bar in the hallway, offering a good selection of food and beers.
For the breakfast they offered both cooked breakfast ("cornish" breakfast consisting of egg, mushroom, sausage amd pork pudding) which was quite forgetable or a bufet with toast, cereals, yoghurt or small pastries.
The hotel has some parking places of its own, but only very few and they are tight, making it pretty awkward to use if anyone else parked there as well. When we arrived it was full, but we used the long stay carpark next to it which we were told is free during the night until 9am.
But the best part of this hotel is, it is right by the beach. You won't have a seaview, but it doesn't take a minute to get to the beach.
I would gladly recommend this place for anyone.
- Daisy (8/5): Stayed two nights - A youngsters hotel but in September they have all left, so we were two of the youngest 55 & 61!!, nice clean hotel , meals a bit basic but hot, bar well stocked.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice, great location and great staff. Will probably come back next year
- Andrew (10/5): Tommy Jacks - A cracking place for a short break - Great beach style hotel with really attentive and pleasant staff. Spotlessly clean throughout. Decent bar and restaurant although slightly limited menu for any longer stay but what they do serve is always great. Not sure why others have complained about the size of the breakfast. Yes the cooked breakfast isn't huge but you can ask for anything so if you want an extra egg just request it. And you can still use the buffet breakfast along with the cooked so it really is plenty! We are quite particular where we stay and are quick to criticise poor accommodation or service but we booked an extra night while we were there it was so good. Our last night was in a smaller cheaper room due to availability but the staff moved our luggage while we went off for the day and when we returned we just went to the new room completely hassle free and the cheaper room was just as nice but smaller and without the great view. Special thanks to Corrine for looking after us and see you again soon.
- Helen (10/5): Great Hotel - Spent a week at Tommy Jacks, great choice of Hotel.
Fab breakfast and lovely seating area outside the hotel.
Friendly staff,no doubt that we will return.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ok stay - Food and drink in the restaurant was amazing, the decor had a great theme and was nice to see throughout the hotel.
Our room was really small though and it was a bit of a squeeze to get around the bed. Our room had some kind of drain above it that you could hear 'whoosh!' above your head quite a lot. There was no music downstairs so the atmosphere wasn't really that great and annoying some unadvertised live music randomly started at 21:00 and then stopped at 23.20, if we had known there was going to be music we wouldn't have gone to bed but instead were kept up by a mixture of music, whooshing, next doors extractor fan and the staff moving all the tables around downstairs.
Overall I would say it's great for students and surfers but if you have kids or are wanting more of a chilled stay maybe try the other hotel they own down the road.
