Guest Reviews
- Megan (10/5): - Love the
- Braedon (10/5): - Helpful staff, modern hotrl
- Kourtney (10/5): - Really nice hotel, clean, modern and great restaurant. Best beef tenderloin! Breakfast was delicious as well.
- Joanne (8/5): - Hotel is a ways from any dining or grocery options (groceries at the gas station), about 26 minutes. Not far from hiking (crater Hverfjall) and the lava fields (Dimmuborgir), about 45 minutes to Hverir and Krafla (Viti crater).
Great scenic views from the hotel lounge. Dinner not served till 6pm, and no other options on site till then. Breakfast was included and had all the necessities. This is a hotel heavily frequented by tour and bus groups, so expect busy times at the restaurant. We found the food would have been much improved if it didn’t have so much rich sauce (arctic char), and so much cheese (lobster pasta).
Rooms are comfortable and clean, it would be nice to have had a small fridge (but this doesn’t seem to be a thing in this country). Passing the laundry room en route to the rooms, afforded the sulfuric smells redolent of the thermal plants up the hill. Overall a comfortable stay.
- Carol (10/5): - This is an excellent location when visiting Myvatn
- Karen (8/5): - Property was clean but seemed barebones. Not a lot of “extras”, I,e., shampoo, conditioners, etc. Staff was polite and attentive.
- Ivana (10/5): - Great
- MY (8/5): - Very picturesque view and quiet location. Good breakfast!
- Richard (10/5): - I stayed 2 nights here because there is so much to see in the Myvatn area. Laxa was helpful in questions on all the hiking I was doing there. The breakfasts and dinners were excellent.
- Michael (10/5): - Amazing hotel in an amazing area. Great restaurant and breakfast. Super peaceful rooms. Helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stopover location - Amazing view and comfortable quiet room. Peffect place to stop our ring round tour for two nights
- Omar (10/5): - Good property
- Laura (8/5): - Modern, impressive building - looks like a James Bond villains lair. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Excellent breakfast with lots of different options. The beds were very comfortable and the bedding was good quality. No milk was provided in the room for teas and coffee.
- Weicheng (10/5): - Great aurora call service
- Beveridge (10/5): - Lovely staff. Lovely building. Great food. Amazing location and views. Hotel night-time lightening hindered night sky view a little bit - small gripe. We had a nice stay here. This place will get popular.
- Alesia Michelle (10/5): - Very nice hotel-staff were friendly and helpful. We had dinner and breakfast here-both very good. Room was clean and comfortable.
- Joshua (10/5): - Absolutely fantastic. The views from the property were stunning, and that's not even considering the northern lights, which we were lucky enough to see as well. The property is well-maintained, comfortable, aesthetically pleasing. Wish we were still there :)
- Andrew (10/5): - Great location overlooking the lake. Very clean and tidy. Staff were very attentive and polite.
The evening meal menu was a little limited but of good quality and the breakfast was great too.

- Shauna (10/5): - Excellent breakfast.
- x (8/5): - Front desk staff was not at the desk while we were checking out. Left keys with a note
- Wai Yee (10/5): - Spacious room & quality food at Elderly restaurant. Perfect !
Outdoor areas & car wind screen changed to white due to unpredictable first snow with strong wind in late September. Guests should pay more attention on road safety & sudden weather change.
- David (10/5): - lovely hotel with lots of amenities, bar and restaurant. the dinner and breakfast were fantastic!
staff went above and beyond to help us
- Kartike (10/5): - This is a great parking around myvatan. Clean, nice and good breakfast. Only thing is the parking and the walk to hotel can be slippery, as the temperature drops below zero in morning and late evenings from September onwards. Also as this is in middle of nowhere, except good views nothing else to do.
- Prashant (10/5): - Courteous staff, nice room, good breakfast, and closer to nearby attractions.
- autumn dawn (10/5): - Great and comfortable.
- Efthymios (10/5): - Breakfast
- Amy (10/5): - Hotel was great. The beds were like bricks. Restaurant was good.
- Irene (10/5): - Serene and self-contained. Just a great place to hang out and go to and fro from. I do wish there were a walking trail on the property. It’s on a knoll, and it would have been pleasant to amble about up there.
- Keri (10/5): - The views, the sunset, the vegan food, the breakfast, the staff, the grass roofs… phenomenal!! Thank you!
- Melinda (8/5): - Property was great, the only issue was no wifi during our stay and we rely on wifi to look up places to go and things to do. Other than that, everything was great. Property was clean, modernized, breakfast was delicious too.
- Jennifer (10/5): - We Loved the property!!!!! The breakfast was great and had a lot of hot options! The hotel decor was very nice. The location was perfect and rooms were bigger than most in Iceland.
- Kim (10/5): Great stay and awesome breakfast - Very nice hotel with awesome breakfast!
- Apinya (10/5): - Room small but comfortables, very clean
dinner at hotel is good not much in menu to choose.
- michael (8/5): - Food was amazing. Walls are a little thin in the rooms. Great location to see all the sites in the area
- Rajeev Reddy (10/5): - Stayed for a night here and impressed with modern looking style and neat rooms.
- Barry (10/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely hotel! The service was outstanding in every way.
- Roni (8/5): - Beutiful hotel and room, greate service and very good breakfast.
One downside was the cleanliness, there were hairs on the sheets and it looked like they haven't been changed. They quickly changed the sheets and apologized.
- Rory (10/5): - Friendly staff and a nice place to stay. No gym.
- Julia (10/5): - very good
- yunhee (10/5): - Bed was comfy, bedding was clean, breakfast was great, the view from the room or lobby was awesome and I really enjoyed staying there :)
- Zydre (10/5): - Stunning views. A room big enough for 2. Nice dinner.
- Tammy (10/5): - Large rooms. Clean. Warm. Nice lake view. My dinner was … ok, very saucy. The butter skyr combo AMAZING!! Wanted to stay another night but had to press on.
- Carol (10/5): - Monika in the dining room was wonderful!
- Erik (10/5): Nice Hotel - Very clean hotel with friendly staff. Away from town which was great. Good breakfast and easy parking and check in.
- Chee Yun (2/5): - I hope this will get your attention .. I booked for the 7th April but was unable to get there due to road closure.
- Brooke (10/5): - Great spot to see the Northern Lights & plenty of sightseeing and other outdoor activities around the area!
- JANET (4/5): - While the hotel facilities were good and staff alerted all guests of northern lights appearance, there was dangerous ice in parking lot so we had to drive up onto the patio to get bags and selves safely to entrance.
- Carol (10/5): - Staff is very helpful. He helped us with the damage car door blowed by the wind!
Without him, we unable to continue our journey!
- Steven (10/5): - Hotel was great! Had a seating area near the bar to relax. They offer a door knock/wake up service until 2300 for northern lights! Hotel staff was very nice and helpful upon checking in and out. Weather was bad when leaving and assisted. Great breakfast!
- JOSE (10/5): - Food was amazing. Perfect location to watch the northern lights
- Alvaro (10/5): - Clean
- leonnie (10/5): - Staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is lovely and food is amazing! Great breakfast set up! Rooms are modern and very clean. Enjoyed the happy hour in the evening before our dinner booking.
- Richard (8/5): - Rooms were fine. Hallways were a bit tired. Restaurant was excellent
- scott (10/5): - We enjoyed our brief stay at this surprisingly large, beautifully appointed hotel. The front desk staff was exceedingly patient and helpful in answering our questions and providing advice. It was fun to poke around the various common areas on the different levels of the hotel. In addition to a fancy hotel restaurant, the hotel has separate, quiet bar area. Our room was exceedingly clean and comfortable. Nice bathroom with great shower. Excellent breakfast buffet (included in room rate) with lots of delicious options (even fruit!), all beautifully presented and regularly replenished. An expensive area to visit (Mývatn attracts a lot of tourists), but this hotel is definite recommend.
- Vlad (10/5): - Unique place
- Flor (10/5): - Staff so friendly
- Gemma (10/5): - The hotel is very nice, in the middle of no where . We saw the Northern lights in the parking lot of the hotel. Awesome experience
- John (6/5): - Terrific restaurant and the location is perfect as a base tow colors the Myvatn area..
Rooms are spartan.. on par with an upscale backpackers hostel. Bathroom is also sparse and small - though water pressure and temperature is excellent.
- Jennifer (10/5): - -
- Melissa (10/5): - Enjoyed our stay!
- Holly (10/5): - Absolutely beautiful location with wonderful touches. Lots of places to enjoy the beautiful landscape. The building also is environmentally responsible as well as good to look at. Breakfast was amazing!
- Ming (8/5): - it is a new facility with updated amenity and provides a good breakfast.
- Andrzej (10/5): - Good
- Yunxi (10/5): - Hotel was beautiful and breakfast was included. Hotel is kind of in the middle of nowhere which we felt added to the charm but come prepared with food or eat at the restaurant.
- EcHo (6/5): - I loved the hotel itself but it unfortunately doesnt have a any air conditioning so it was uncomfortably hot and trying to open the window was a little tedious to say the least but other than that it was a great stay and really enjoyed it, the staff was one of the best ive seen in my many travels as well and deserve a raise!
- Samantha (10/5): Excellent property - Very comfortable room with everything you could need. Breakfast was included and was geat. Bacon, eggs, cereals, fruit toast ect. A great spot to stay.
- Jim (8/5): - Good views of surrounding landscapes, conveniently located to Lake Myvatn attractions.
- Alun (10/5): - It’s all about the location
- karen (10/5): - Very comfortable accomodations. Easy to make the room dark at night. Staff was very helpful. Dinner and included breakfast at restaurant were excellent. Both meals had items not seen in other area restaurants.
- Leobardo (10/5): - Can’t say enough great things about this place. The staff were nice and friendly, they had a great breakfast, also offered activities such as the Myvatn nature springs or bike riding. The hotel was very comfortable cozy and had various games available to pass the time cannot wait to return
- Bong (8/5): - This property was good
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Would highly recommend Laxa Hotel. Staff were all extremely friendly and hospitable, the restaurant had a small but excellent menu and the bar was cosy and with a great selection of drinks & cocktails.
- Zhiguo (10/5): - The lake view is great!
- Farah (10/5): - Comfortable stay with beautiful views
- Mark (10/5): - The staff was amazing!!!
- Claire (10/5): - We had a wonderful time at this hotel. There was a weather warning issued for the day we were supposed to check in, and luckily we arrived before the storm really hit. We were very thankful that we were allowed to check in early.
Although they usually don't offer lunch, they did that day for a fee since everyone was snowed in. We appreciated the free breakfast and enjoyed dinner there as well. The trout was especially delicious. Because of the storm, the satellite for their TVs was out, but they had great WiFi and also had books, board games, and a ping pong table.
The best part of our stay was the northern lights we saw. They were so vivid and danced across the sky against the backdrop of the snowy mountains. Absolutely beautiful.
- Jennifer (10/5): - The staff was incredible. Very helpful during stormy weather and difficult road conditions. The restaurant was great.
- Rose (10/5): - The staff was brilliant, above and beyond in every case. Kind, helpful, offering assistance with everything from how to navigate the online toll-paying system for the Akeuryri tunnel, to offering ‘wake up calls’ for northern lights, to upgrading our room when they realized we were there 4 nights. Breakfasts were huge and varied (fresh fruit to hot dishes), lounge areas were plentiful, great views in all directions. Mainly, the staff should be commended for their outstanding service - FYI, a big storm had come through the previous week knocking out Laxa’s TV and phones. Anyone who writes anything negative about that during this time period clearly hasn’t looked around Iceland - there aren’t any repair services for many, many miles - so? Get out and enjoy more of nature!
- Anthony (10/5): - Very nice hotel. One of the best we stayed in Iceland.
- Sam (10/5): - only property that offered wake up calls for northern lights. just ask at the front desk and they will knock on your door when they spot the lights. we stayed 2 nights and both nights they woke us up. hotel amazing, happy hour is perfect and staff are great. Very nice breakfast
- Matthew (10/5): - New, clean. Firm mattress. Black out curtains. No screens on windows, which seems to be common in Iceland, which is a shame because there are so many flies in the country. NOTE !! - when you leave your room, you must lock your door manually by turning the key. It did not lock for us automatically. Very unusual for a hotel room. Extremely quiet area. The hotel is basically in the middle of nowhere which explains the breakfast being included. The breakfast was a typical European breakfast buffet. There layout of the serving area could be tweaked. The plates were not at the beginning of the counter which was weird. They were the second item, after the heated foods. Coffee machine is typical of what I saw in Iceland -- automatic style which grinds coffee fresh for each serving, and has many drink options. Only drawback with these machines is the prep time which tends to create lines wherever they are used. It would be nice to have either instant coffee available or a pot of coffee for those who dont want to wait for the machine. Also, limited salt and pepper shakers. Nowhere near enough for each table -- I think they were not supposed to be at the tables, but people took them to the tables? They should either have shakers at each table, or packets at the serving area. A lot of this stuff can be easily tweaked, chalked up to growing pains. Roofs were green for those into that. Locations is convenient to Myvatn Nature Baths. ~20 min. Beautiful area.
- Charles (10/5): - late check-in was not a problem; breakfast was excellent; hotel was fully-booked, but didn’t feel crowded or overly loud
all rooms are 1-2 only, so our family of four needed two rooms (which weren’t together, but not an issue for us)
- Li (10/5): - Great location and friendly staffs.
- Zhengyuan (8/5): - One of the top hotels in the area. Good starting point for sightseeing around the lake. No hair conditioner in the shower.
- India (8/5): - Very nice hotel with good location. Very clean, good breakfast. Would recommend for few nights when doing the diamond circle
- Marianne (6/5): - Great location but completely overpriced. They first put us in the worst room overlooking the parking. Bathroom is functional.
- Mark (10/5): - Big and nice hotel with beautiful surroundings, convenient to to all attractions.
- Srinivasa (10/5): - Our favorite hotel in iceland
- SATYAJEET (10/5): - Safe and private
- Kenneth (10/5): Best hotel I stayed in Iceland - Excellent sunset view. Like new condition, very clean, good room size. Free breakfast is good. I will come back to watch the Northern Light.
- Sang (10/5): - A great place to stay on vacation.
