Guest Reviews
- McCormick (8/5): - Location was excellent, bright on high street. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rally comfortable nights sleep.
Large bathroom with a good shower Had cooked breakfast which was not to my taste,
Would definitely use again but different option for breakfast
- roger (7/5): Overall fine - Room was a good size. Nothing really.
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Steve (7/5): Decent place, not bad breakfast, poor coffee. - Friendly staff, comfy bed. Not bad breakfast. Instant coffee is a bit poor for breakfast these days. Sausages were really good but eggs and bacon maybe a bit overdone.
- Andrew (6/5): Clean and comfortable but basic. Overpriced for what it is. - Very friendly staff, great pub food and nice bar. Quality in room tea and coffee Basic but comfortable room but lacking in any personal touches. No black out blinds so very bright from around 5am
- Paul (10/5): -
- Stephen Evans (6/5): - It's situated in Amble which is where we wanted to be
The room layout was odd with a shower on one side of the room & toilet and basin on the other side - so 3 rooms to complete bed & en-suite.
Not a problem though all good Welcome was a bit off.
Breakfast was ok if a bit DIY for tea, coffee etc.
Room was small & bed was standard double.
Wouldn't rush to stay again but not the worst place to be. It did the job
- Sharron & John (8/5): Lovely place to stay. - The location was great, a 10 minute walk down the high street to the harbour, which is the hub of activity.
The room was pleasant and clean. We both found the pillows to be too soft, but that's just personal preference. Staff were polite and helpful. Breakfast was cooked to order. Free parking is always a bonus. Guests need to be aware it is a dog friendly inn. At one point there were 5 dogs in and around the bar.
- Hazel (9/5): Relaxing stay in lovely Amble. We will be back again. - Great location. Lovely breakfasts. Lovely, friendly staff. Nothing.
- IAN (9/5): Excellent place to stay, great location with good parking -

- Lorraine (7/5): - Location and free parking. Very comfortable bed. Definitely needs an update, chipped paint, paper off toilet wall in patches.
- Charles (10/5): - Staff were very efficient and helpful
- paul (5/5): - Breakfast The terrible creaking of the floors in the bedroom and toilet and the hallway when people passed
- Haylo2704 (7/5): Amble stay - Location was perfect a short walk down into the town centre and harbour.
Food was good. Staff were pleasant and made us feel welcome. Not sure if the room was checked properly before our arrival as night wear was still in the bathroom.
- Stuart (10/5): Great value stay and food - Well situated, good menu choice, staff really friendly and an excellent breakfast and lady we saw couldn’t do enough for us Nothing
- Elaine (7/5): Great location, good value for money, staff really helpful & very friendly. Proper local pub with good atmosphere - Great location Rooms are a bit tired
- Louise (10/5): The wellwood arms is a great place to stay - The staff are lovely particularly the lady who booked us in and served breakfast The pillows for me were not comfortable but I don’t sleep well anyway
- Jacob (5/5): Wellwood not so well - Amble is a lovely village, pub looked nice from the utaide Constant noise in the room all night. Constant loud noise from the pub beyond 00:00am. Arrived home and had a message from the pub seemingly accusing us of breaking a bed. Second time staying and was upset the pub didnt have the same feel as prevoius stay.
- CAROL (9/5): Accommodation was great , we stayed for two nights in February - Breakfast was superb
Evening pub menu was good value

- Jan (9/5): Very happy - It was where we needed to be. The room was very spacious and comfortable. It was very clean. It had nice bed linen and a comfy bed and pillows . Generous supply of good tea coffee and biscuits. Staff were very welcoming and helpful . Breakfast slightly disappointing - nice menu and range, but not cooked well - ie very fatty bacon almost raw
- Elliot (9/5): Had a great time in amble. Would definitely come back and stay at the Wellwood again. - Room was cosy and clean. Breakfast was nice and a really good location for visiting amble. Systems for getting booked in were down which I know isn’t really anybody’s fault so took a bit longer getting checked in.
- Tom (10/5): A great find - Everything about our stay was great. The room was large and very clean, as was the bathroom. The bed was huge and very comfortable, the staff were exceptional, professional, efficient, and friendly. Thank you N/A

- Helena (10/5): - Check in was very, the room was clean and exceptionally large. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the location was ideal for a night away in Amble and the breakfast was very good
- Karen (9/5): Great spot for a local stayover when visiting Alnwick - The accommodation is above the pub; however, it was very quiet and we could not hear a thing. everything was as we were expecting, the bathroom is pretty basic, but clean and tidy and the bed and bedding was better that any 4* place we have stayed - super comfy! The kids were in a room with 3 single beds (no bunks) which was great.
The staff were so accommodating and helpful - we felt like welcomed visitors in a small coastal town, it was nice.
Breakfast was great! There is not much going on in Amble, but the accommodation is fabulous for a stayover.
- Phil (8/5): - Lovely well played pub. Nothing really

- Ines (9/5): - Empfehlenswerte Unterkunft, sauber, ordentlich. Unsere Aufbettung war verbesserungswürdig...für eine Nacht akzeptabel, bei mehr Nächten nicht.
- Carolynn (10/5): thoroughly enjoyed the stay - spacious bathroom
room was just what needed
all food was lovely
staff were friendly
lovely atmosphere in the pub bathroom was big so wondered why no bath as plenty of room
- Dianne (7/5): Would stay here again. - Comfortable bed.
Friendly staff.
Good size car park. The breakfast could have been better.
- Catherine (8/5): Friendly pub in central location - Friendly pub Dogs in dining area.
- William (8/5): I would stay again as I think it represented value for money. An 11am check-out would've been better - Room was clean and comfortable. Bathroom was spacious with a good, roomy shower enclosure. Staff were friendly and obliging on checking in. Had a quiet night's sleep. The 10am check-out was the only downside. Felt a bit rushed by the staff.
- Martyn Nelson (10/5): -
- John (8/5): Short break - Clean pleasant room.
The staff were pleasant. The Wellwood use Coffee bags which are no comparison to ground coffee beans. Very poor coffee provided.
- fiona (7/5): Good value, great for 2 days - Great location. Room and bathroom good size.
- Christopher (9/5): Great place to stay! - Warm welcome, lovely room and bathroom, hugely comfortable bed. The evening meal was excellent as was the breakfast in the morning.
The banter in the bar both at lunchtime and in the end evening was great...! The only negative and it was the only one, was the shower temperature regulator (Room 2) where the button was missing to turn it to cold.
- Hunt (8/5): - Friendly staff, good breakfast, nice and clean The room was above the kitchen, which had a very noisy extractor fan that kept us awake. When windows were open you got cooking smells.
- Fletcher (8/5): - The location Nothing
- Peter (9/5): Good value - Family friendly old English friendly pub very good value. Would recommend to anyone.
Ideal short stay accommodation will use again Location was exactly where we wanted it to be
- Susan (8/5): - Very comfortable bed and lovely clean room, staff were friendly and breakfast was great 🙂
- Donna (10/5): - Nice clean room , friendly staff , good food , just what we needed . Would use again
- David (8/5): - Good location good size room with comfortable clean beds All good but a little bit dated
- Travellers Far Away (8/5): -
- Tim (10/5): Zimmer deutlich größer als erwartet. Tolles Pub mit gutem Essen direkt im Haus, Frühstück sehr gut -
- Kasia (8/5): One night stay when visiting Alnwick - The room was very spacious and beds were comfy. There were plenty options for the breakfast, and it was delicious. We had a really good stay.
- mrslblair (9/5): Lovely, comfortable one night stay. - The friendly staff, location, very comfortable bed, and lovely cooked breakfast. Nothing to dislike!
- Gordon (9/5): -
- Barry (9/5): -
- Julie (8/5): - Good location, lovely room and staff very helpful
Would stay again
- Clare (8/5): Nice hotel clause to the sea, in lovely Amble - Nice comfy bed, the room was pretty clean, good standard English breakfast. Amble was lovely. The room was quite small, I thought it a little bit pricey for what was offered, I paid £140 for 2 people for 1 night with breakfast.
- Lornie (8/5): - Good location and spacious and comfortable room. Good cooked breakfast. Limited cereal selection at breakfast.
- Lauren (10/5): - The size of the room was fantastic, especially for a family of 4.
- Sarah (6/5): Good , quite expensive for a room above a pub even with breakfast - Warm and welcoming and nice quality sheets and towels and generous with all the tea and coffee which was all high quality.
Felt very clean. A little tired , single bed in the room we stayed in was very wobbly and looked like it could do with replacing and the room did smell as if someone had smoked in it prior to arrival as windows weee open also but smell had not gone.
Breakfast was ok , no pancakes on menu that day so my son was disappointed and breakfast was a little greasy. But a good generous breakfast.
- Maureen (4/5): - The staff were lovely and very helpful The room was very small and the bed wasn't comfortable. I wouldn't want this room again if I ever returned.
- Orsagova (9/5): -
Gran desayuno
- Walton (9/5): Very good indeed - if you are going to Amble, consider this place - its good - Staff were excellent - really friendly and helpful, especially the lady who served the breakfast (which was really good). Unfortunately kitchen was closed due to some technical issues - but breakfast was still done for us and based on that I think the food on an evening would be very good. Location was also v good Nothing - it was very good and worth the money
- Jacinda (10/5): - Great location, comfortable and nice breakfast & friendly staff
- Hazel (10/5): Great place to stay - Lovely place to stay in Amble. Not far from shops and a short walk to the harbour. Very comfortable bed. Lovely breakfast. Friendly staff. Will be going back to stay again. Nothing not to like.
- Michaela (8/5): Great place to stay friendly, clean and good value - Friendly and well run. Good breakfast and range on menu. Room spotless clean and everything you need for a stay. The only issue was our room was extremely hot as it was above the pubs fans/coolers. It didn’t bother me as much a so like white noise to sleep. But my partner struggled to sleep. But that’s not unusual anyway so did spoil our stay. NA
- Vere (8/5): -
- Neil (10/5): Really good stay - excellent value for money. -
- Adam (10/5): - Lovely room and breakfast, good location quite a short walk to sea front
- Christine (7/5): - Safe bike storage Ate in the property in the evening. Food was below average.
