Guest Reviews
- Lydia (4/5): A pub that isn’t open until pm, karaoke at midnight & owners have forgotten they have rooms. - Proximity to wedding venue. That’s all. No breakfast.
No staff in sight until afternoon.
Karaoke starts at midnight.
Facilities unkept and dangerous.

- Debbie (10/5): Great - Greeted with a warm welcome, they booked us a taxi and were really helpful! Lovely room with everything we needed Inc tea and coffee facilities There's a step into the bathroom, beware I fell down it 🤕
- Emily (10/5): -
- Paul (9/5): Lovely staff and great village pub atmosphere - The staff were really helpful and very welcoming. They gave us the full "village pub" experience....

- Jan (8/5): - Friendly village pub
- Lore (10/5): Inmejorable. - El lugar es muy acogedor. La habitación muy limpia y tal y como se describe. Nos gustó todo.
- Peter (10/5): Ford fair trip 👌 - This is a lovely tucked away in the contry hotel nice a quiet and only 15 mins from Silverstone
- Andrea (1/5): Terrible, avoid at all cost. - The pubs location was great fot silverstone circuit, lovely village. The young person who checked us in was really lovely. Firstly, the pub advertises it closes at 11pm, the 1st night of our stay there was a singer on, the pub was still open at 2am with him still singing and really noisy as our room was right above the bar. We chose this pub as thought it would be quiet by midnight as we had to be up and at the circuit by 8am. Watching the locals leave and blatantly drink driving was concerning as the landlord was serving them alcohol which we saw them drink throughout the evening and then watched them leave to drive home. The room was full of cobwebs behind the curtains, the window had a huge crack across it, black mould around the switch on the ceiling for the shower. There was bed linen hanging over the stair bannister going up to our room. Our price included breakfast however they cancelled this a few days before our arrival and promised a refund and despite this being for all 3 mornings, they have repeatedly ignored my requests for the refund. We then had to spend £30 on 2 bacon rolls and a coffee each on the Saturday and Sunday morning at the circuit, not the end of the world but still no refund. We were absolutely shattered by the time we left Monday morning as again the pub was open until way past midnight again. I will be reporting this to booking.com for false advertising.
- Hans (6/5): Pleasant -
- Matthew (7/5): Good -
- Dawn (8/5): - Parking OK, spaces on road opposite. No food served by hotel, including breakfast. Pop up kebab van from 5.30pm. Apparently, different pop up vans on different nights. Nice choice of ales. Pub seemed popular with locals, which did make it rather noisy. Staff friendly and helpful. Hotel was a little tired looking. Bed comfortable.
- Toby (1/5): Bad - The landlord knew we were staying above the bar area yet still allowed the live music to play until 1am. He knew that I needed to be up at 4.30am. I even had to go down and remind him of this. He was not apologetic, heard him say well I’m getting a bad review now!! He then allowed the pub goers to stay until 2.30pm loudly chatting and singing. A disgrace.
- Preston (7/5): Good -
- Adam (4/5): Great pub, but poor sleep - The pub itself is nice and seems a friendly place for people to go and enjoy
Unfortunately on the night we were staying there was karaoke and plenty of people in the pub until 1am gone and the sound came into my room with ease and this unfortunately made me unable to sleep. I went downstairs and asked if they had anything I could use to help drown out the music but the barman said no and pointed out to me that this is a pub and it's licensed to run until 2am so this will be going on for some time still
I understand it's a pub and that but when the room is allowing the sound in due to the volume and being above the bar area it wasn't ideal.
We were told in advance no breakfast would be available which was fine, but had we been told in advance of a late finish for the pub for karaoke and that the rooms aren't the best at keeping the noise out we would have taken our stay elsewhere due to long drives there and onwards the following day.
- Norman (10/5): Friendly and welcoming. - Very helpful and provided a packed breakfast on both days as had to be out of hotel at 07.00 each morning. Room was very comfortable, clean and warm. Mine host and staff were very helpful and friendly. Will definitely be booking again.
- Keith (3/5): Location was ideal for us but disappointed - Paid for 2 breakfasts but was told it did not start till 8,30am
This was too late as we were checking out at 7.40. We didn’t get a refund and had to pay for a breakfast elsewhere. The bedroom was cold
Bathroom had mould on ceiling
Window pane in bedroom cracked
Washing hanging on bannisters and clothes horse outside room so had the smell of drying washing.
- Craig (3/5): Sorry to the nice lady who runs it, but we won't be staying here again. - Average. Basic cereal and rolls. No offer of anything cooked. The worst part was that the hallway and bedroom had an overpowering smell of air freshener, which was so strong, we couldn't get to sleep. Plus the door didn't close properly. The sealant around the units in the bathroom was black with mould and it was cold in the room. Not worth the money we paid to stay there!
- Andrew (4/5): Very bad. - Lovely pub, location was nice. Morning breakfast, they forgot. Yes, paid for breakfast and the place was empty. Room was cold, no hot water, the shower was moldy and my bed, was a cheapo £100 bed with slats held in with bits of plastic. Twice I fell through the slats. In the mornings no lights on going down old stairs. Avoid at ALL COSTS.
- Judith (8/5): Very pleasant, comfortable pretty room. - Gorgeous room with ensuite in lovely quite area.
Host was lovely.
Breakfast would be great but as only the room it was good value anyway. Breakfast would be been great.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michele (6/5): - It looks very cute but the shower and windowsill was horrendously mouldy. The shower spray holder was broken which required a hand held shower. The heating in the room wasnt working and there was no lighting in the hall/ stairwell ..leaving early was a feel the way process and as with a pub it was incredibly noisy until midnight/one.Disappointed that a continental breakdast takeaway wasnt available due to leaving early. ..in rural area without shops or corner stores open.
The staff were friendly , comfortable bed and pillows and a much needed warm snuggly blanket.
Good wifi signal and TV chanels.
- Stephen (8/5): Very good -
- Raphael (8/5): - Extremely friendly, hot water very temperamental, shower need fixing, otherwise great.
- Leppard (8/5): Nice and friendly atmosphere in the pub, I had to be in Daventry the following day so the location was ideal for me and - It was a pub ! Didn’t serve food :(
- Sarah (10/5): - Lovely traditional pub, made us feel very welcome.
Will definitely use again.
- Sergiu (8/5): Worth the money - In the room I was checked in, there was no bathroom window, nor the vent worked. Not a big deal, as my visit was short.
Mind your head at door frames and enjoy the atmosphere down in the pub, where you find a big woodfire and friendly horses across the road.
All the bests !
- Heather (10/5): - A very old village pub where we were made to feel very welcome
- Michael (10/5): Super helpful owners - We really enjoyed our stay at the Bartholomew Arms. Our room was clean and comfortable and the pub downstairs had a nice atmosphere. The owners were really helpful and friendly - would recommend!
- Anthony (8/5): It was what I needed and expected. - It was convenient for me. It was unfussy I didn't know how to adjust the temperature in the room but as I was there so short a time I did not try very hard to do so.
- Mark (1/5): Not a pleasant experience - The village was quiet. This is very basic pub accommodation that would benefit from being updated.
Breakfast is served relatively late (8.30am), so anyone travelling either for work purposes or who has an early commitment (as we did) isn't going be able to get away on time. We asked the management about getting something a little earlier but they were not prepared to do this. Therefore we missed the breakfast that had been included in the price. Despite this, we might have given a passable review of our experience there but we had to endure shouting from people using a games room which was situated directly opposite our room. The noise stopped once we'd notified the manager - but then someone banged on the wall of our room facing the corridor.
Overall a poor experience. Maybe there shouldn't be a games room on an upstairs floor that's available for use when guests are settling down for the night.
- Peter (10/5): - Old School Pub with rooms. Beer was nice. Large screen TV in bar.
- Mary (8/5): - Lovely place in a nice location
- James (8/5): Good value for money shame some rubbish was Missed - Nice and comfortable but there was some foodstuffs left on top of the wardrobe that I just left where it was.
- Michael (10/5): Reward night - Typical village pub accommodation in an old building.
Creaking stairs and uneven floor was expected, bed was comfy but no heating at 10pm but okay in the morning.
No food at night but a reasonable continental breakfast.
- Mike (10/5): - Beautiful, peaceful, country pub/hotel. Staff were really pleasant. Mobile food vendor was both reasonably priced and tasted amazing. I would happily and hopefully will stay again.
- Mark (9/5): Definitely stay again - Staff and locals very friendly. Very old pub with lots of character.
- Gary (10/5): - Excellent value for money
- Lauma (7/5): Good -
- Nicola (9/5): Quaint and historical - Fabulous little pub with friendly staff. Rooms above. Very old 16th century building, so quirky rooms! Value for money. Breakfast was continental, croissants, cereals, toast etc. They even got up early so we could have breakfast before we left on an early start.
- Michael (8/5): Very good - Nice friendly welcome, comfortable room, characterful building and good beer in the bar.
- Julie (10/5): We had a short stay and we enjoyed it - A friendly local pub and a free games room The games room and a comfortable bed
- Mark (10/5): Lovely quiet area in a cute little village. Old pub but really nice. Staff very friendly. - Very cosy and clean Not much really. We are very pleased
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, friendly staff and atmosphere. Games room was great and rooms were easy and comfortable. They weren't doing food but they gave us take away menus.
- Thomas (10/5): Excellent hosts - Katie and Jamie were the most welcoming, hospital hosts I've ever had. They couldn't do enough for you and were great company in the bar after closing time. This is quaint setting with bedrooms above the pub so lots of low, slanted ceilings. Prepare to crouch at times if you're over 6 foot.
- Pauline (8/5): Really enjoyed it - It was quiet No parking we had to put our show cars on the road
- Matt (8/5): Very good -
- Penny (8/5): Just what we needed - The staff were very helpful and the bed was really comfortable No food on site
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adam (10/5): Great Place - Very friendly staff. Had a fabulous stay
- Toni (10/5): - Perfect stay thank you
- Peter (4/5): disappointing - lovely pub great atmosphere. Room non ensuite??? lights some of them bulbs to replace. emergency light not working in the room. fire safety arrangements poor fire doors wedged open.
bed collapsed fortunately it was a twin bed room. no chair to sit at desk in room. displayed sign saying food available none available. all in all nice location otherwise poor standard.
- Bailey (9/5): Superb - Very welcoming pub with rooms to stay, good amenities too. Low ceilings in the hallway into the rooms - watch your head if you're tall 😅
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Neil (6/5): - Located in pretty village full of honey-coloured stone 5 miles from Towcester. Rooms are over pub which is closed Mondays & doesn't do evening meals tho' you do get free run of the kitchens & a nice continental breakfast with hot pastries. Food can be bought in village shop or takeways ordered from Towcester (Mughal House particularly recommended). Very reasonably priced: £125 for 2 nights including breakfast.
- Christian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fliss (10/5): Hidden gem - Such a lovely old building, full of character. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our room. Wonky floors are part of the charm! Lovely room , clean and with all we needed inside. We stayed here before a trip to Silverstone the following day, Silverstone is an easy drive 15 minutes from the pub. We had a great evening drinking with the locals. Jamie and Katie are fantastic hosts at the pub! Had a great time with you all! No complaints!
- Jason (8/5): Decent accommodation for the price. - Nice pub and accommodation but they do not serve food so make sure you eat before you get there.
- Paul (6/5): - Had a very good sleep. Very friendly staff and helpful for other amenities due to the place being shut on a Monday.
If had known before cancellation time I would have gone somewhere else.
- John (10/5): - The staff were good and very helpful the room was very clean and a good size the bar area was really good and the staff were happy to have a drink with you and make you feel at home
- Andrea (6/5): - Nice place but needs a major update and noisy people in the pub till 1am
- Ian (7/5): Ideal for a work stop over. - The lady that greeted me was very nice and friendly. The room has everything you would need for a short stay. There is a village shop just a few metres up the road. No food being served. The room was directly above the bar, meaning that an early night would be near impossible.
- Daniel (5/5): Overnight - After having shower, we had a knock on the door to ask us to ensure we had the shower door shut, as it was leaking to the room below. We could hear the neighbouring room chat and move.
- Bailey (9/5): Nice rooms at the Bartholomew Arms - Great hosts, nice casual pub downstairs. Rooms had everything you needed. 2 twin bed had a split bedroom and bathroom. It being down the hall was inconvenient but didn't cause an issue during my stay.
- Louise (8/5): - Stay was lovely, just some odd elements which were a bit strange! Make sure you arrive in good time to check in early, and double-check what the morning process is for leaving - main pub remained locked and egress was through the rear fire escape - noone in sight so left key in room.
The room was lovely - really well laid out, roomy, and clearly well-thought out; lots of little things that made the place really nice. Weak spot was the bathroom - doesn't have a proper door. Shower was also dirty with soap scum - black mould on the grouting which disappeared with one wipe of the thumb so it clearly could all go with one wipe round with a cloth.
Irrespective definitely a nice place, would consider returning with the bove in mind! :)
- Paul (10/5): Really enjoyable. - Lovely room and great pub. Nothing
- David (1/5): Appalling - Staff pleasant enough. Food left in cupboards from previous guest. Heavy cobwebs. Bathroom nit en suite. Drawers full of previous guests effects. Bathroom for room was used by someone else. Basin light not working. Large radiator shut off. Windows sealed and misted. A very poor standard and zero effort preparing the room.
