- Meera (3/5): Nice enough but unreliable room allocation and no follow up on refunds - Nice once we were put in the correct room we paid for. Not receiving the room we paid for on the first night. We had booked the wedding suite and didn't receive this on the 1st night, we were then provided assurances that we would recieve a refund for this night however nothing had happened. As a result , the night before my wedding where I needed a good night's sleep, I was placed right next to a busy beer garden in a regular room when we had booked the room allocated for weddings.

The blinds in the room were broken in places and didn’t keep light out. Music from the bar was intrusive but the hotel turned it down when requested.

- Lorraine (10/5): - This was our 3rd stay at the Finchs and it never disappoints. It is situated in a beautiful location overlooking Rutland water and is very peaceful when staying overnight. We had a standard room which was very spacious with an excellent shower and the added bonus of a bottle of old fashioned to either drink in your room or take away. Both the dinner in the evening and the breakfast the following morning were excellent. We will definitely be back.

- Phil (8/5): Good restaurant with comfortable rooms in salubrious surrounds - We had a very comfortable and relaxing stay of 3 nights. The food was good, the wines were good, and we ate there each night. The staff were very friendly and relaxed adding to the laid-back ambience. There is a big back garden with a view of the water (if you atand up and look over the hedge). There were some minor wrinkles. The bar has a very restricted frontage, making ordering pre-dinner drinks difficult if (say) four big blokes are standing or perched there. Also, the welcome point for the restaurant is what would be half the bar - but this was only fleetingly manned, meaning we could stand there with the last of our aperitifs and be ignored (as drinkers). However, after this, service was good. We had a room at the front, which is graveled; and there were some very early risers who woke us on Saturday morning. The gravel doesn't help.

Food was excellent, we had dinner and breakfast Staff friendly and helpful We had the smallest room in the hotel, so it was a bit cramped, though comfortable. No real residents lounge, but its an old building so lack of space for this

- Penny (10/5): Thanks for a lovely stay on my birthday and the night before our wedding it was perfect - Beautiful pub on the Hambleton peninsula, room was lovely and overlooked the patio with Rutland Water in the distance Nothing, but I guess patio could be noisy on a warm evening if you wanted an early night

Very unfortunately the power went off at 4.45am and emergency lighting came on, so very bright, power still off at 8am unable to wash\shower or anything. Went to reception where we got bottled water. Offered breakfast at the sister hotel in oakham very pleasant but obviously not what we expected. Fully understand it's no fault of the Finches but thought they could consider the disruption & disappointment to their guests a lot more

- Lesley (9/5): Attractive pub with smart accommodation - Smart, comfortable and good sized rooms. Comfortable bed, excellent showers with plenty of hot water. The rooms were tidied every day and supplies restocked, including bottled water. The breakfast was also good - generous portions - you could choose 2 items from a fixed menu - one cooked and one cold. The staff were friendly and professional. The accommodation had its own entrance. There were no hairdryers, Luckily we found out beforehand and took our own.

- Penny (9/5): Rutland Water is a beautiful place to stay and the Finch's Arms puts you right in the centre of ever - Everyone friendly and helpful. Food was exceptional, nothing was too much trouble. It's quite expensive to stay - we upgraded to a lake view room, but had to be moved because the bathroom had a leak - no one's fault just one of those things, but it was the same price as a room overlooking the car park. We were given a free dessert on the first night to compensate for the inconvenience, but I did feel that some money could have been taken off the room.

- Antonio (10/5): Finch's day - Everything was perfect for our stay we got married locally and had our nearest and dearest there to eat drink and had a great time. Staff couldn't do enough for us . Log burner was too hot but ok. Oh and if beds could be a little bigger?
- Clare (10/5): Excellent. One of the best we have had - The hotel is beautiful and a great village location. We booked to walk around Rutland Water peninsula and it was a beautiful day. The room had everything you could need, it was comfortable, great size and comfortable bed We sat in the garden out the back of the hotel which ahain was lovely. Dinner in the restaurant was brilliant. We had a lovely table... not on top of each other and the food was exceptional. The waiting staff were friendly and very efficient. The cleaning staff were friendly and so were the reception staff, great welcome and goodbye. Would return The only slight downside was the breakfast service, it was very slow and the waitress kept getting confused. The food was excellent though so just a very minor improvement

Dinner and breakfast were both delicious with high quality produce. Fantastic hotel and restaurant and we look forward to coming back and bringing our friends and family Nothing at all !

- Kay (9/5): Weekend treat - We love this pub/restaurant and stay occasionally for a little treat. It has a lovely traditional feel with open fires and furniture to match the style. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff make you feel welcome. The included breakfast menu is plentiful and delicious. We enjoyed a lovely evening meal, it is a bit pricey but classy and gives a sense of occasion. Bar prices struck as very high. Also, one of the waiters seemed a bit impatient to take our order, he was very polite but made us feel a little hurried. However, only tiny things and we’ll definitely be staying again.

- Catherine (8/5): - We had a little mix-up with our reservation (my fault) and the receptionist dealt with it calmly and creatively. The Finches is a fine placce to stay for a meet-up with friends, for good atmosphere and good food.
- Clare (5/5): Overall we were underwhelmed by the check in staff and bar staff but food and setting were superb. - Lovely setting with log fires in bar and restaurant. Food was fantastic at dinner and breakfast. The bedroom was small and fairly basic. Chipped furniture and paintwork peeling off in bathroom. Bar staff were all young and had a couldn’t be arsed attitude, too busy chatting to each other or on there phones when the bar was busy and tables were overflowing with dirty glasses etc. Not a good impression!!

- David (7/5): Overall the accommodation met my needs. - Room was clean, good tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast was excellent. My room was close to the kitchen and with the window open there was a constant hum of the refrigeration units. There was limited lounge space downstairs.

- Barry (7/5): Excellent dinners and fantastic location but let down by lots of accommodation issues. - Dinners were exceptional - novel dishes, well prepared, beautifully cooked. Wide range of interesting starters, excellent haddock and chips and Sunday roasts. The bar was entirely suitable for dining, with several real fires to keep the room warm and cosy. Room 10 - one of the cheapest - was so small it was difficult negotiating the entrance door and the bathroom door . No chairs. Window overlooked the bin store so noisy early mornings. Vent from CH boiler just below the window so drumming noise through the night. Neither bed side reading light worked. Bag of rubbish from waste bin left in room. Uncomfortable pillows. Breakfasts were overcooked with burnt toast and dry scrambled eggs, hard poached eggs, overcooked hash browns and mushrooms. Appalling coffee.
- Denise (9/5): Had a lovely stay and would book again. - Great location around Empingham reservoir. Comfortable room and bed. Staff really helpful. Very good breakfast choices. Highly recommend. Shower cap in the bathroom would be helpful. No way of not getting hair wet due to tropical rain shower and no hand shower.

- David (8/5): A attractive building in an attractive village and location. comfortable stay, would go back - Rooms were fell fitted, bath and shower excellent, beds comfortable and general facilities good eg hair dryer, tea and coffee, bottles of water and hand wash/body wash/shampoo. Very good breakfast and lovely dining areas. Rooms could benefit from air conditioning, although electric fans were provided the heat of the day on 31st July made the rooms on the upper floor very hot.

The restaurant serves excellent tasty food at a price which is perfectly acceptable. We hope to return in early October. Everything perfect

- John (10/5): A perfect place hotel to explore the local area. - We stayed for two nights. Perfect location within walking distance of the village and Rutland Water. The food was excellent, a good variety, cooked to perfection. Spacious dining room with attentive waiting staff. You can eat in the dining room or have bar snacks and/or drinks in one of several warm, cosy fireside corners. Very comfortable room with a spacious bathroom. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate available in the room (I don't drink tea or coffee so the hot chocolate was a welcome bonus, something that many hotels don't provide). Very helpful, friendly staff in all areas of the hotel. Highly recommended, we'll visit again. Nothing, everything was great.

The food is delicious, staff are lovely and friendly. Location is perfect. Nothing, the only niggle (and it is a niggle) but we could hear music playing late at night and started again early morning. Couldn’t work out where it was coming from and I wasn’t enough to complain but conscious of it.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable with coffee/tea making facilities and a home made biscuit. The location is ideal for walking by Rutland Water. There was nothing we disliked.

- Johanna (8/5): Great room stay, with exceptional food - The decoration and detail in the rooms is exceptional. We had 3 rooms and each room was a different size and layout, with great bathroom facilities. It’s a lovely old pub with roaring fires and a beautiful restaurant area. After confusion with our allocated room, and no lake view which we had paid extra for, we were immediately compensated with a free drink and reduced room rate which was more than generous. The evening meal was well cooked and great portion sizes. Taking a birthday cake was no trouble at all, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive from checking-in, bar service, restaurant and checking-out. Parking was impossible in the pub carpark,and finding anywhere to sit in the bar area was really difficult, however this was due to the Sunday lunch rush and being Christmas. We had to sit upstairs on the room landing and chat until a space became available, and also move the cars once lunch guests left.

- peter (9/5): Rutland escape - Lovely romantic old style pub. Loads of open fires in the pub/restaurant. Very comfortable bed, nice shower room. Check in was bit manic, due to volume of dinners at sunday dinnertime. Not surprised though, the we had later was excellent Nothing to dislike
