Guest Reviews
- Christine (10/5): - The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. A tasty full Scottish breakfast was provided. I would definitely return next time we come here.
- Laurel (10/5): - Clean modern efficient room. We were on the 3rd floor, and should have asked for 2nd floor. Great breakfasts! Walking distance to Spar market with ATM. Good base to tour the area. Near the ferry.
- Jill (8/5): Nice, comfortable stay before the ferry - Clean, comfortable and convenient to the ferry.
- Catriona (10/5): Friendly and comfortable stay - Super friendly staff, happy to help with our request to pop a bottle of wine in their fridge for us. They also provided us with cereal bars and cartons of juice for breakfast on our checkout day as we were leaving really early.
- Peter (8/5): - Lovely service excellent breakfast.walking distance to centre of town.
- Hélène (8/5): - Well located accross from a beautiful Park but along a somewhat busy road.
- Adele M (10/5): - The welcome by Linda was warm and personable and even though I arrived a bit early, my room was ready. I stayed in a single twin bed, it was comfortable and there was plenty of space for luggage, etc.
The bathroom was newly renovated and the tiles and fixtures are top quality--best shower in Scotland!
Well stocked coffee & tea station--specialty herbal teas and hot coco!
Breakfast was delicious with a multitude of options. If you want porridge order the night before.
It is a bit out of the center but very walkable. Great 3-day stay! Will definitely return!!!
- eileen (10/5): - Very comfortable and clean. Reasonable price and very welcoming staff. Convenient for expl
- Richard (10/5): I thoroughly recommend Hebridean Guest House - Loved staying here, Linda was very welcoming. Street parking was easy outside the house. My room was very clean and comfortable, I enjoyed better sleep here than at home. Convenient location, the walk in to town is 10 minutes maximum, and there is a nearby Spar store at the petrol station.
- Jack (10/5): - I was warmly welcomed and found everything to be lovely, including a great breakfast, and I was shown extreme kindness in helping with a travel problem
Would recommend to anyone
- Heather (10/5): - The place was clean and cosy breakfast was excellent. Linda was welcoming and couldn’t do enough to help and make our stay great x
- Michael (10/5): - This was a lovely BandB. Linda the host was very welcoming as was her staff. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed. Lovely cooked breakfast. Very attentive to our needs.
- Allan (10/5): - This is a very cute and well run guesthouse where the two Linda’s make you very welcome and relaxed. Parking is right outside and everything you might need is but a short walk into town. Enjoy your stay and breakfast..we did.
- Steven (8/5): Very nice b&b - Very sweet little b&b. Just happened that our room was facing a busy street that made for a noisy night. No fault of the place itself, obviously.
- Daniel (10/5): - I highly recommend this guest house . A lot of love and care has been put in this property. The rooms are clean and charming, the bathroom and the shower are great , breakfast delicious. What makes this place also really special is the owner and her staff ‘s welcoming help and knowledge of the island . They have done everything possible to help us plan our trip and are very gracious . Thank you very much .

- Bree (8/5): - Close to town and to castle. Breakfast good. Had to leave early next morning to catch ferry. Was told I could grab fruit or cold cereal before leaving but door was closed. Other hotels offered a take away breakfast if had to leave earlier than breakfast serving hours.
Nice friendly staff.
- Andrea (10/5): - Wonderful owner and staff team.
All very friendly and warm from arrival and throughout stay.
Also very helpful. No query a problem.
Would stay again.
- S (10/5): - Lovely friendly guesthouse. Comfy Bed and great Shower!
- Ronald (8/5): Great comfort - Both Linda's were very pleasant and lovely to deal with, great service and room was really clean and comfortable
- Michael (10/5): - Fantastic Guest House, and Linda is so friendly and helpful :)
- Victoria (10/5): Comfort and tradition. - Our hosts, Linda and Laura, were so friendly and welcoming. They took time out of their day to advise us on local sights to see and went out of their way to ensure all our needs were met. Breakfast was generous and that famous Stornoway black pudding was amazing!
The guesthouse was also conveniently located at just a short walk away from a range of places to eat.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Room five - Conveniently located close to a filling station (glad we remembered that it is closed on Sundays) and free street parking (don't park on the car park just behind the property). Excellent breakfast, all though I wish there could have been a wee bit extended breakfast hours on the weekend. Short walk to the town centre for some restaurants and pubs open late also. Room was fine, it seems the bathroom has been added quite recently, in stead of a wardrobe, but it works (only on the small side, but no problem for us).
- Paul (10/5): Excellent stay - A warm welcome, a delicious breakfast, and one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in. I’ll be back!
- Margaret (10/5): - Excellent accommodation, tasteful decor, comfortable beds, lots of little extra touches. Breakfast was amazing, huge choice, good quality. Linda is an excellent host, friendly and very accommodating. Fully recommend staying here. 10/10
- JANET (10/5): - Convenient and cosy guesthouse
Hosts are lovely and very helpful and accommodating to needs.
Cosy little ensuite room with window.
Necessary amenities supplied.
Good varied breakfast options available
Short walk to bus and ferry terminals
- Jeanne (10/5): - Linda made our stay thoroughly enjoyable.
We simply cannot thank her enough for her selfless assistance in making our trip to Stornoway and the isle of Lewis and Harris an unforgettable experience.
The guest house is very very nice. The room was huge. The shower awesome. The bed one of the best we’ve encountered. All in all we could not have chosen better. Area completely walkable with a lovely woodland walk just across the street. Surprisingly quiet for being on the main drag thru town. 👌
- Dawn (10/5): - Excellent and luxurious guesthouse.room had eveything you needed provided. Super comfy bed. Food was amazing with plenty choice hosts were very friendly and very nice people. Would highly recommend and would most def stay there again
- Megan (10/5): - Linda was a lovely host and went out of her way to help me with luggage storage, etc whilst I explored the island!
- John (10/5): lush - perfect in eveyway
- jennifer (10/5): - Friendly welcome, room comfortable and well arranged - generous number tea bags and milk for an overnight stay
- Richard (10/5): - Very clean and well-kept, very friendly people, great breakfast
- David (10/5): Great value - Overall Great value. Stayed 1 night and found it very cosy and relaxing. Friendly staff and great breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It is well positioned and on the whole good. I would strongly advise that you have a room that is not facing the road. It is on a main road that is very busy and noisy.
Breakfast was good, but don't expect any fresh fruit.
- George (10/5): 2 night break - Excellent 2 night stay. Very comfortable, very hospitable and really enjoyed it
- Tracy (10/5): Great place to stay - Lovely, warm and welcoming guest house in the heart of Stornoway.
All roims ensuite with power shower and toiletries. Hairdryer in rooms too.
Full cooked breakfast is delicious.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely guest house, just perfect for our needs
- Christine (8/5): - Quite expensive for a small room. Lovely hosts and breakfast.
- Paul (10/5): great place to stay - room was clean and fresh and had everything I needed
breakfast was very nice too
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff friendly and caring
- Jonathan (10/5): Great Stay - Fab B&B - Had a wonderful 2 night stay here. Spotless accommodation. Very comfortable bed. Spacious room. Excellent breakfast.
Great location near to the centre of town.
Highly recommended.
- RGIS (10/5): - great location, quiet. First visit to Stornoway would stay again
- Edward (10/5): - first time in Stornoway would stay again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice guest house, centrally located. Easy walk to town. Very comfortable room and beds. Quiet. Lovely breakfast. Helpful staff.
- Karen (10/5): Great accommodations in Stornoway! - The Hebridean Guest House was clean & comfortable & the owners were very friendly & helpful. Food was good too! Couldn't have asked for more
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, very nice room, comfortable bed. Very friendly and helpful staff. Really good breakfast.
- Andrew (8/5): Brilliant location in Stornoway - Very handy hotel for centre of Stornoway. Parking is on street, but was available. Owner was very welcoming. Multi-tasking as I arrived due to power cut that affected whole town. The town is a flat 10 min walk. Room was comfortable and quiet. Mine overlooked the local garage!. Breakfast came quickly and was very generous. Its a large table arrangement, which I liked as it encourages talking to other guests. If you change credit cards between making reservation and staying, do make this clear to the owner as they automatically charge the original card otherwise. Looking forward to staying again if in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Immaculate property and welcoming hosts. Close proximity to ferry terminal.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff were very helpful room spotless breakfast was perfect
- Heather (10/5): - Cozy room - friendly and helpful host.
Perfect location - delicious breakfast.
I would highly recommend this guest house and will certainly return
You just can’t beat warm Scottish hospitality in a locally run guest house in the islands. ❤️
- Chris (10/5): - Lovely place, with very hospitable guests. Excellent breakfast, too!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The location is perfect and the host was extremely welcoming.
- Peter (8/5): - Linda the proprietress was very helpful and understanding when I sprained my ankle, transporting my luggage to my next accommodation. My one reservation about the room was that it was a bit cramped (Often the case with single rooms, I find); in particular it required contortionist skills to sit down on the loo. (No lift, but again Linda was helpful in carrying luggage for me.)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - all round excellence, friendy, good food, particularly liked the smoking area definately a talking point
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice, unfussy, place to stay. Central for town and owner is very helpful.
- mal (10/5): - well placed for local shops and the nearby harbour and ferry terminal .friendly staff and great breakfast
- Sue (8/5): - No place close to get a nice dinner. Linda was helpful with directions to th he ferry
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Comfortable guest house next to Lees Castle grounds
- Pete (8/5): - Nice stsy. Friendly staff. Small room. Would come again
- Scott (8/5): - The Hebridean Guest House was perfectly located in Stornaway - a few steps from the harbor - and featured clean facilities and friendly hosts. We enjoyed an excellent breakfast and we had some "issues" figuring out the hair dryer and tv remote - and our hosts were most helpful. Parking is on the street but was abundant and we didn't have any problems.
- Kathleen (10/5): Lovely stay in Stornoway - The bed was a little softer than we like but otherwise a lovely stay. Convenient location to walk to restaurants and super close to the ferry.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Arrived late ferry, no issues, already for us.
Enjoyed the breakfast in the morning.
- Dave (8/5): Really good feel to the place - Really great owners, atmosphere and food great, location good.
Only downside was the size of the rooms and the bathroom.
- Nicky (10/5): Great stay - Great stay. Very warm welcome to a quaint B&B. Couldn't fault a thing. Will definitely be back.
- Vicki (8/5): - This is in a great location. We were greeted at the door, check in very easy and our room was very tidy and clean and had a very comfy bed. The staff were very friendly, and the breakfast is excellent quality, very generous serving.
- Lyn (8/5): - Overall good accommodation- room a little tight. Breakfast good and reasonable walk into town. Just note there is no restaurant or bar on site.
- Sharon (10/5): Lovely Stay at the Hebridean Guest House - We had a terrific stay at the Hebridean Guest House. It was a perfect location close to restaurants and the harbor and our host Linda was very helpful in recommending and booking restaurants for us. Breakfast was lovely and we enjoyed our stay a great deal.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place to stay - Nice place to stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): Hebridean Guest House - I thought that previous comments about the Guest House being dirty and dingy were completely unfounded. The hallway and room were clean and bright, and the bathroom was particularly nice. My only complaint was that the whole space smelt strongly of some sort of spicy food for the entirety of my stay. Would stay again.
- Ariel (10/5): Lovely - I had a lovely stay here. Lovely and helpful host, yummy breakfast, friendly staff, comfortable en-suite room. Would definitely stay here again, and would have stayed longer if my trip had allowed.
- Emil (10/5): 4 nights stay at the Hebridean Guest House - Excellent breakfast, nice people and good location - just some 5-7 minutes from center town and five minutes from the Caste/museum. Good price too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A pleasant comfortable B & B with friendly staff, - We found A pleasant comfortable B & B with friendly staff, The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of choice.
- Margaret (10/5): Unfortunately owner was away. - We stayed here two nights. Very nice place, but owner was away and staff seemed stressed at breakfast both mornings. We could hear the cook in the kitchen from the dining room and she sounded very crabby at the young people serving. We had requested porridge the night before as directed, but this message was not transferred from someone named Kevin to the cook.
- Catherine (4/5): Don't expect much - The staff members were often not around to help the guests. The breakfast room is very small, so it's best to arrive early to get a spot. The scrambled eggs were hard and rubbery.
The wifi did not work, and we stayed for two nights. I was particularly disappointed in this, as I missed an important email during our stay. The network name was not clear at all, anyway. The tv quality was very poor.
The carpets looked old, but at least the place looked clean. It's okay for a place to stay, but it is not great.
Do not have high expectations for this place if you decide to stay here. I've had much better experiences in other guest houses. For the price that we paid, I expected more.
- Janet (10/5): - This guest house was excellent in most respects. The position is very handy for the town centre and also just across the road from the castle grounds (lovely walks and 2 coffee shops) Breakfast was delicious and served very promptly.
Only niggles: room was tiny, wall- mounted TV was too high and awkwardly angled making viewing uncomfortable, and the only seat was a stool - I'd have found a chair with a back much more comfortable.
But over-all, very good value and a happy 4 nights' stay!
- Wade (8/5): nice but tight - while close to the centre of town it was a dark and the room was very cramped. the hosts were very friendly and made you feel very welcomed and nothing was too much to ask for.
- Paddy (10/5): A real experience of island hospitality - Everything from meeting and eating is personally delivered and done with a genuine friendliness. Can't commend it enough
- George (6/5): Ordinary Guest House - Welcome wasn't overly professional.
Room was very small and tired looking - large dead moth in drawer didn't help. Light bulb broken in bedside table lamp - got a replacement and landlady said fitting was faulty and the lamp would come on and off spontaneously - which it did. Only way to switch it off was to unplug it. No idea why owner hadn't fixed this for future guests,
Breakfast was as expected for a Hebridean guest house - hearty.
Overall, a pretty bland experience for the price paid and overpriced compared to the other guest houses we have stayed in across the Hebrides.
- Sue (10/5): Perfect! - A warm and friendly welcome in this perfectly located guest house. Superb breakfast, highly recommend!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great wee place - This is a more than adequate guest house..clean rooms, a fine breakfast and pleasant staff..I would stay again without hesitation.
- sam (10/5): Lovely quiet room, great friendly hosts - Only stayed two nights but immediately made to feel at home. Only a single room but fresh, spotlessly clean and very comfy bed.
Nice banter in the breakfast room between hosts and various guests.
I had some work to do in the morning of my departure so was made most comfortable ( with a coffee made specially) in the sitting room, till I had to go.
Much appreciated!
- Alison (10/5): Perfect - Comfortable, clean and hosts cannot do enough. Breakfasts are superb! We were there for the festival so it was the perfect location. There was lots to do and the town was busy, lucky with fabulous weather. Already booked in for next year!
- Gordon (8/5): Tight quarters, but a delightful place to stay - The Hebridean Guest House is a country inn in the centre of Stornoway -- a short walk from the harbour, and the Castle with its new museum wing. The manager and staff greeted us like family and our room, while "cozy", was clean and comfortable, although us bigger folk had to squeeze a bit in the shower. The highlight was the excellent breakfast which featured everything from Stornoway black pudding to Scottish porridge (order a day ahead as it must be soaked overnight). The only issue we had was that we were on the "top" floor, up two flights of stairs, so anyone with knee problems or large luggage might have some minor discomfort. That said, the man with the arthritic knees did his best. And the wifi, with repeaters on every floor, was excellent on all our devices.
- Leigh (10/5): Lovely guest house - Lovely comfortable friendly guest house in stornoway. Excellent breakfast to set you up for the day, It's within walking distance to the towns restaurants and bars. We always managed to get parked just outside the front door.
Reasonably priced and all you need as your base to explore the island.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel , in walking distance of local sites. - Hotel in good spot close to local shops and eateries.
Staff in hotel friendly and helpful.
Room clean and tidy.
- Cathy (10/5): Great accommodation - This was a two night stay for us. Unfortunately didn't realize almost everything closes on Sunday. The accommodation was great. Very clean and the decorating was fantastic. Breakfast was top notch and the conversation was interesting. We were late coming in on the ferry and we were made very welcome. Would highly recommend staying here while in Stornoway.
- Roy (10/5): A homely Guest House - Very clean, nice room layout, all usual amenities including biscuits. Breakfast good, nothing was too much trouble
- Marc (6/5): Ok location - Everything was average in terms of reception, location, cleanliness, and breakfast. However, although the bathroom was spacious, the room was very small and even though they advertise having free wifi, if you're in a room We were in, you will not get wifi. The server at breakfast told us the wifi reception on our floor doesn't work because of the size and composition of the walls. The hallway on our floor had a wifi extender, but it made no difference. If you don't rely on wifi, it shouldn't matter, but we rely on it extensively when we travel in order to plan our day.
- Kathy (8/5): - Good location in Stornoway, just steps away from the harbor and good shops. The staff are very friendly and informative. The parking is a little tight unless you are able to get one of the few spots on the road right in front of the guest house.
- Tim (10/5): First class place to stray. - Excellent place to stay, clean , well maintained, warm and comfortable. Breakfast was very good , with first class service from the friendly team.
- cassegw (8/5): Just a few minutes from the Ferry Terminal - Central, quiet, decent wi-fi and a great breakfast.
- Lynn (10/5): Great place! - We had been there 17 years ago and found it to be the same wonderful place that we remembered! Linda was a great host with helpful suggestions of excellent places to eat in town. Our breakfasts were excellent and the room was very nice. We would highly recommend and would certainly stay here if we come this way again!
- Jeff (8/5): 3rd.Stop On Our North 500 Trip - Great location. Our room was small, but reasonably comfortable. Service was first class.
- Billie (10/5): Best guest house experience ever - Would highly recommend to anyone. Hosts were exceptional in every way.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Stonoway blackpudding was amazing, nice friendly staff but room was very small and a bit of a walk from town centre
- Hilary (6/5): small room. - Small room, no wifi last evening. Friendly owner, OK breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely guesthouse - Linda was a lovely, attentive host and went above and beyond by driving me to some sites as it was out of season and there weren't many buses. The guesthouse was well run, nicely decorated and very clean and comfortable. The WiFi was good too.
- retired ladies (8/5): Very convenient - Excellent for parking, ferry to Ullapool, short walk to town & restaurants. Friendly and helpful owner and staff and clean and well kept. Our room rather small & no view, but comfortable and quiet. Wifi in that room slightly unpredictable.
- Marcus (8/5): - Good other than wifi - it was available but so poor as to be unusable
- Nigel (8/5): Quiet, friendly bed and breakfast - You can't go wrong. Quiet, friendly and great breakfast. Strong Wifi
- Ted (10/5): - Convenient location in Stornoway for food, shops, the ferry terminal and Lews Castle are all just a moments walk away. Accommodations are very good indeed.
