Guest Reviews
- martin (10/5): Great value - Lovely stay food was delicious especially the cakes
- Andrew (10/5): - Stayed for the convenience of going to a concern in Leicester. Lovely room and pub
- Helen (10/5): Amazing stay - Lovely stay , room was lovely and spacious bath was amazing. Checking in was great. Breakfast was 1st class. Would definitely stay again.
- Jason (10/5): Lovely, well maintained pub with great atmosphere - Lovely well serviced room with a comfortable bed. The staff wee all really friendly and helpful, and the food and drinks were excellent. Stayed for one night on business and will definitely stay here again when in the area next.
- John (10/5): - Lovely bathroom and a comfortable bed
- Brian (10/5): Excellent and lovely rooms - Excellent clean and sizeable rooms with all amenities very good Couldn't fault anything about this hotel.
- Michael (10/5): - Everything was good
- Russell (8/5): - Easy to find on Desford High Street, large car park, easy check in during pub opening hours. Rooms remote at rear of pub by beer garden with separate gated entrance if preferred. Room was a good size with large bed and nicely decorated and fitted. Bathroom huge by hotel standards with corner shower, roll top bath and twin sinks. Excellent cooked breakfast for £11.
Room 4 (and its ground floor equivalent) are on the corner of the high street which was surprisingly busy from 6am. Double glazing may have helped reduce road noise.
All things considered a pleasant stay and I would stay again.
- Ian (8/5): Great Lodges - Check in was a little slow however the pub was very very busy, love this place have stayed here several times the Lodges are neat, clean, tidy and well maintained
- PAUL ALAN (6/5): - The place was nice, good rooms and clean, the food was not as advertised, just avarage.
- Scott (10/5): - Room was massive , shower was excellent, free soft drinks because rooms got warm .
- Ian (8/5): Great Room - Second stay at The Bluebell and Lodge, on arrival we decided to have lunch as we were a little early for check in, food was lovely and served very well.
Checked into our room No 4, excellent room, clean, smart and the Bathroom was amazing could fault it, well done The Bluebell we shall return
- SEAN (6/5): An OK stay - Nice little village pub and lodge
Had to wait approx 10 minutes to get the key as the barmaid was busy.
The room itself was large, clean & comfy.
Small TV on the wall which was fine.
Wifi was very poor so much so I could not do any online work as the wifi kept dropping out.
The water in my room was tepid and best in the shower and cold only at the sink
Was a little mould at the base of the shower tray that could easily be removed.
One thing I did find very annoying was the constant barking from a dog which I presum was a guest as it was in the guest lodge,
All in all not a bad room that a few little alerations could make it a fab place.
- DAVID (10/5): - Really loved staying at Blue Bell. Lovely room and everything perfect. Great value. Thank you.
- ROGER (10/5): Excellent choice. - Apart from Satnav taking us to wrong address the Hotel was very comfortable.
- Richard (8/5): Good for mallory park - Perfect location for our needs, good food and staff very helpful and friendly.
- D (10/5): Superb accomodation. - One of the best short stay hotels i have ever stayed in. Literally cannot find fault.
- Anthony (10/5): - The history and its quiet reflection in the decor. The excellent food and service by Michael and his team.
- Helen (10/5): Little gem - The rooms were spacious and modern and exceeded our expectations.Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend
- Ian (10/5): Comfortable and Clean - Excellent Room in The Lodge, very clean Bathroom suited ourselves as it was on the Ground Floor
- Dave (10/5): - Staff very friendly very peaceful and very enjoyable evening meal
- Ian (8/5): Great value, comfy large room - Room was a really good size, lovely bathroom and adequate facilities. Being located on the same site as the pub was great and the food and drink on offer was both well priced and a great choice. The room offered excellent value for money. It would have been good if there had been a fan or similar to cool the room during the hot weather. Bathroom could do with an extractor fan.
- Rosemary (10/5): - This was a wonderful find, the lodges are separate from the main building, and having access to covered outdoor space was great. Sophie settled us in and sorted our enquiries regarding taxi booking etc. we enjoyed a lovely meal in restaurant and breakfast next morning was excellent. The room was spacious and the stand alone bath was amazing. The staff and manager and George were all helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be staying again
- Johanna (8/5): Unusual find - A very popular pub in this village, my room was in an outbuilding.
My only complaint was that the room smelt damp. I did some work under the floorboards in my parents' very old house, and it smelt like that. I felt that if I stayed longer all my belongings would start to smell. I wonder if the outbuilding had been in a state of disrepair before being converted into rooms.
The food was great, as was the atmosphere in the pub. Great price too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice friendly pub, with lodge next door, great food, and splendid lodgings, I will use again, when I work locally
- Bryan (10/5): Second Visit - Second recent stay at the Bluebell. Great room, great service with special mention to staff, Charlie, Molly and Rachel. Room cosy, well maintained and furnished . Will certainly visit again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The bedroom and bathroom were both large and very clean. There was no room service for the entire four day stay. In other words, litter bins not emptied, towels only changed after requesting, tea cups not washed, beds not made-up. No wardrobe or drawers. In fact room not visited for the stay. Room was also cold. The central heating had been playing up and the radiator in the bedroom only slightly warm. Radiator in bathroom very hot. Food excellent.
- DAN (10/5): - The Bluebell Inn is a proper traditional old style pub with lots of character and fun signage throughout. We have had a very pleasant stay with a delicious hot breakfast. We would come again and would definitely recommend.
- Bryan (10/5): One of the Best - Recently stayed for a family event, pub in a village, what do you expect? Certainly not this. This hotel is little gem. Beautifully designed, furnished and maintained comfortable room with large TV, wi-fi and a wonderfully powerful shower in a well sized cubicle, not a shoebox you can't turn round in.
Add to this the well stocked bar in the pub, helpful, friendly staff and the great food in the restaurant makes this a wonderful place.
- Lisa (10/5): - Lovely village pub, well supported by local...
Tasty full English breakfast 😋
Would happily stay again if visiting Football America shop or the area.
- Renee (10/5): Fabulous - Comfortable, clean and friendly. Great staff. Great food. Would highly recommend.

- John (4/5): A Spider, a Marshmallow and a Missing Person - Lasting impressions were a huge spider in the bath tub, the bed was far too soft and provided little support and in the morning about 7.30am when I wanted to leave there was nobody around and the place was all locked up with nowhere to leave your key. I had to phone the number which wasn’t answered the first few times (I guess they were still in bed?!) and was finally told to just leave the room unlocked and leave the key in the room.
- Darren (10/5): Happy Customer - My second stay at Bluebell was equally as good as the first. The rooms are separate from the pub which is nice as it means a quiet evening no matter what is going on in the bar. I recommend this hotel as the value is exceptional, location easy and convienient and the food excellent.
I'll be staying again frequently I hope.
- Sara (10/5): Lovely Place to Stay - Lovely rooms, big and comfy. Bathrooms were superb too. Food good in the pub and overall good value for the money, including the rooms. We would stay here again.
- Sue (10/5): Great place to stay! - My 2nd stay at The Bluebell Inn & Lodge and again it was really good. Warm welcome and great room. Food very good. Will be back!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The Bath, car park, near shops for food, few miles from Thornton reservoir,
- Verified traveler (10/5): A lovely stay - Lovely room out the back of the pub, beer garden is directly outside of the room and the windows let quite a lot of noise through but I wasn't bothered by it. The food there is lovely too and the staff very pleasant.
Be aware though that when I went to check out at 7:50am to go to my morning meeting, the pub was locked up and I could not check out. The phone was not being picked up so I had to go for my meeting then come back to the hotel at 9:30 to check out.
- Tracey (10/5): A stay is a must, great value! - The Captains room is in the annex at the back of the beer garden it had lovely modern decor, everything looked brand new. The bed was really comfy. The bathroom was really big with a fab double sink, corner shower & freestanding bath. Delicious breakfast's my hubby had a full english, I had 2 fresh soft poached eggs with a lovely large tasty flat mushroom on toast, it was so nice. Thank you, we will be back : )
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great room for the price. A little noisy as due to being by the road, but that didn’t affect us. Comfy beds and a brilliant bathroom.
Really happy with the stay.
Definitely recommend if you was staying near Kirby.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Modern, clean, spacious and comfortable. We are in the pub once and it was amazing and tasty! 100% recommended this property.
- Sue (10/5): Great place, comfortable stay! - Being a lone traveller I am always a little nervous when staying somewhere slightly different. The Blue bell Inn was brilliant..
A busy pub with good evening food and a very warm welcome, I had no reason to worry. My room was really good, spacious, clean with a very nice bathroom, warm and comfortable.
Breakfast next morning was brilliant and again served with a smile. I will definately stay here again if up this way.
Brilliant value too.
- J (10/5): Bluebell's best - Always reliable with great room and a lovely breakfast and Michael to look after you.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good no problem.
- John (10/5): Lovely pub and lodge - Lovely place to stay very friendly and helpful staff very good room clean well decorated very roomy, had a meal in the restaurant excellent food at reasonable prices good choice of Hand pulled beers and a good wine list, only complaint and it is a very tiny personal observation thy did not do Irish coffee which I usually finish my meal with lol .....great place highly recommended.
- MRS JANET (8/5): Lovely rooms - Lovely room, very clean. Superb breakfast. Only negative, garden adjacent to room needs some attention. And sign outside banged all night.
- Alan (10/5): Best value for money place around !! - Absolute top notch stay. Great in every way. Not sure how others have left negative comments about the place, couldn’t recommend highly enough !!
- Ricky (6/5): Pro's & Con's - Pro's:- Very well decorated room with some nice added touches (Sewing Room).
Nice food from pub.
Good Wi-Fi.
Nice village.
Free parking.
Con's:- Slow check-in due to waiting behind several customers at the bar ordering food/drinks. No signs to say where to check-in or designated check-in area.
While eating in the pub there was another customers dog consistently barking with no attempt from the owner of the dog or pub to either remove it from the pub or try to get it to stop.
While on the subject of dogs, the owners dog was barking in the beer garden directly outside my window until around 22:45 with no attempt's from the owner to quieten the dog, instead just stood smoking watching the dog. Not great when you are up at 6am the next morning.
Toilet seat needs attaching properly, extremely loose & nearly fell off the seat when sitting down.
Needs a bigger shower head & one that is more secure in the holder that doesn't keep facing the wall when you're trying to shower.
Had to call & request for the invoice to be sent on 3 occasions, when it was sent it was without the business address on which is what i'd requested at time of check-in & on the phone 3 times. Requested again for an invoice with business address on. Missed deadline with accounts manager for expenses now so having to pay for the hotel myself until next month.
Wouldn't stay again because of this reason. Not great customer service.
- Claire (10/5): Business stay - Great hotel
- Claudia (10/5): A wonderful British Experience - I was in Desford on business and the BlueBell Inn was very close to where I needed to be. I had already been in the UK for a week but staying in Hiltons and Holiday Inns and was looking for something a bit different. I was not dissapointed - all (more actually) the comfort of a hotel chain plus the charm of a pub and lodge! The room I had was fantastic! Quite possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever had in a hotel (later found out the owner hand picked the mattresses as though they were for him!). The bathroom was without compare! Large modern tub, heated towel rack, heater in the bathroom and a huge shower head above you. I still wonder how I was able to leave the room but the great food at the pub certainly helped. I still crave the tomato and red bell pepper soup with freshly baked bread. There is a market (the co-operative food) just a block away with fantastic baked goods (you just need to get there early) and good to-go salads and nibbly things. I had a little baby cooler and they are happy to give you ice at the bar (never once muttering "those Americans"!). Nice outside patio as well if you want to take your work outside (and its not snowing or too windy). and when you get home sick Pizza to go just like home.
