Guest Reviews
- Stan (9/5): Wonderful owner. Extremely Hospitable, Informative and Welcoming -
- HANNA (6/5): Удобное расположение,замечательный хозяин.Отелю необходим ремонт - Очень гостеприимный хозяин Эрик,отзывается на любой вопрос или просьбу.Хорошее расположение Отель старый,требует ремонта
- Guy (10/5): - The family owns the guesthouse are really kind
- Head (10/5): - clean comfy great place to stay
- sarah (9/5): - Merci beaucoup aux deux propriétaires pour leur accueil, leur gentillesse, et pour toutes les précieux conseils et l'aide qu'ils m'ont donnée. Vous êtes vraiment des personnes en or !
- James (4/5): Nothing good. - Nothing good.
- sarika salvi (5/5): Ok - The bed and room size was good, the place was comfortable and run by a warm family so was secured as I was travelling alone. The bathroom wasn't clean and had a peculiar smell. That was by only issue.
- Emma (10/5): -
- Phoebe (10/5): It's a good place to stay. Highly recommended! - The friendly owner and staff.
- Paul (7/5): Good -
- Paul (7/5): Good -
- Dahyabhai (7/5): Good to stay. - No breakfast. No microwave. No regrebgerator.
- Menglis (4/5): Disappointing -
- Matthias (7/5): Good - Host was very friendly and helpful. I did rent a bicycle for the first day directly in the hotel. The place is not directly in the main part of the city, but near enough (5-10 minute walk).
Good staying for this price.
- Jasu (9/5): Great stay! - Amazingly helpful staff and always available. Great with local advice as well The rooms are spacious and clean with electric showers.
- Hsu (9/5): Superb - The service was great and everything went really smoothly. The owner was super helpful and friendly, making me feel really welcome. It was such a nice experience overall!
- Janos (9/5): Superb - No fridge in the room otherwise it was OK
- Elio (9/5): Superb - It was clean, confortable and located near the center, all that for a cheap price
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - Eric and David, the owners of the hotel were the most fantastic people you could possibly find, extremely polite and always looking out for our needs. The rooms were unbelievably spacious, we even had 2 king sized beds for the 2 of us. Highly recommend!
- Drizith (7/5): Great and friendly staff. - The staff was lovely. The old lady there even gave us a small plastic tub to bathe the baby. The room was not spacious. The checking in was a bit delayed.
- Htet (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mario (10/5): Exceptional - This place offers a great location, friendly staff, and clean accommodations, all at a fantastic value. Highly recommended!
- M (4/5): Disappointing -
- Jade (8/5): Amazing hosts, perfect location, great value for money - Great location. Eric is so welcoming and very helpful, lovely chats, all staff really nice.
Right next to bus stop and Tuktuks.
Walking distance from market, round the corner from great restaurants, coffee hut & pub street.
Amazing value for money. Only negative the WiFi wasn’t great, however our room was at the end of the hall, it worked in the lobby and central areas better.
- Chan (7/5): Good -
- Håvard (6/5): Pleasant - The rooms where good and great value for the prize The personnel wants to help you all the time what is good, but they charge for everything. Gave us a price on a buss ticket, making us cancel our current trip and pay our cancellation fee. Then their price raised and the trip we were promised got a lot longer with buss changes!
- Nyein (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mel (6/5): Pleasant - Eric the owner was very friendly and helpful and happy to help organise any activity that we wanted to do (not always for the best price though, as we found cheaper for a couple of things).
The location is good and close to everything. The Wifi in the room was very bad. Good at the reception, but very hard to get in the room.
We booked a room with 2 double beds and we got one double and one king single (I assume): as we are 4 people traveling (2 adults and 2 kids), it worked but was not completely what we asked for.
- Somaline (5/5): That’s bad experience for booking via website - Lotion Room can not even compare with local guesthouse in Siem Reap. Not clean well, toilet is bad and room facility is waste. Visitor will be charged extra even they don’t sleep there. It’s not value for money!
- Raquel (10/5): Very comfortable and the staff made us feel like in home - the rooms are very clean and the staff was very nice and always helpful the wifi didn’t work properly in the rooms
- Fherlyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ravikant (5/5): Passable -
- Andreia (10/5): Exceptional - The owners of this guesthouse Eric and Dave were the nicest most welcoming hosts ever. They always went above and beyond to help with anything we need (from tours to visa queries), their genuine concern with the guests wellbeing truly makes this place.
Besides that, it’s a great location away from the craziness of pub street but still walking distance to the center.
The room was very clean, comfortable and spacious. I have nothing bad to say.
- Bulent (2/5): Very poor -
- Anna (9/5): Superb - Very nice place, easy to find, great location, close to many cafes, main square. We've chosen place, cause it's 2 min by walk from one of the bus station. Extremely nice stuff, clean place in local style, good price. In our room didn't work wifi, so we used it in corridor or at first floor.
- Karunakaran (10/5): Excellent location and great host - Great price and great location with loads of dining options nearby. The night market is 15 min walk away and Pub Street a further 5 min walk. When you become a guest you also get access to Eric, the proprietor and his wealth of knowledge about Siem Reap. He managed to organise tuk tuk tours and Apsara dance show and give recommendations of where to eat. That knowhow was invaluable Should have paid more for AC upgrade. Even in winter the rooms are stuffy and humid mainly due to mosquito netting reducing ventilation
- Sareth (8/5): Very good -
- Brendan (8/5): Very good - It was a great stay, the staff was great and it was very close to downtown. Internet connection could be better.
- Mehdi (10/5): Exceptional - The owner is one of the best person i met
- Serena (6/5): The hosts ❤️ - Eric and David are two brothers and they opened this business together, they are the real winning card of the structure. Their kindness is incredible. Wonderful people. The location is perfect for walking around the city and for taking excursions outside the city. Unfortunately the air conditioning is not included in the price (but there is a fan) , we had not been informed of this, perhaps we would have chosen another structure.
The bathroom has no window, no extractor fan.
There are only two power outlets. Very inconvenient.
The walls were filthy.
- Margarita (10/5): A really good place for this price - Cleanliness, order, feeling of security, amazing staff, location - perfect. A fan in the room was pretty old that is why noise.
- Kelly (6/5): Ok budget option - One staff member was particularly friendly, free water refills, good sized rooms and you can hire bikes from here - the city bike is much more comfortable (for women!) than the mountain bike. Good A/C and fan. The water smells very metallic, there were hairs in the bed but otherwise clean. The mattress sloped on one side so difficult to get comfy.
- Barbora (10/5): Great!! - Eric is the best host ever! Always smiling and happy to help with anything at anytime. Nothing is impossible for him. I had great time staying at his home stay. The accommodation is home stay so do not expect 5 star hotel but it was a great value for money, warm family atmosphere, the room was very big, comfortable and clean. Location is great, everything is near by walking. Definitely recommend!!
- Melisa (10/5): Exceptional - The owner was very helpful all the time. Very kind and polite. I recommend this place
- Carlos (10/5): 10/10 - Amazing hosts who speak perfect English so they can explain any questions about the culture or places to see. Very nice hosts. Nothing bad for price.
- Kim (1/5): Bad -
- Rosco (7/5): Good - Staff/owner were friendly and helpful Bathroom could be a little cleaner and better equipped
- Amy (9/5): Great staff, large clean room - The staff were super helpful and also nice and friendly! They stayed up to let me in because I was arriving late. The room was large and spacious and clean. Nice warm shower :) It is a good location too, restaurants are 5 minutes away. I would recommend this hotel. The toilet flush stopped working on my final day.
- Rod (8/5): Very satisfied and would recommend if you’re on a limited budget. - The owners were the most polite and helpful inexpensive guest house people I’ve ever experienced. The price was only $8.10 a night and was very clean. If you’re looking for a discount guest house with smiling, helpful owners, this is the place. Nothing. You can only expect so much for the price and it was much better than expected. 😁
- Ramesh (9/5): Superb -
- Mathis (10/5): Exceptional - Staff very friendly, the rooms are clean, possibility to organize your tour directly with all the reservations (I recommend you take the tuktuk there) at the reception.
A big thank you for this stay 🙏
- Daisy (10/5): Exceptional - The host was so amazing! We all were rather ill but he was so helpful and even brought us some hydration drinks, which was greatly appreciated!!
- Michelangelo (9/5): Superb -
- Phil (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely amazing hosts, Eric,David and their mother made us feel like family, We were originally booked to stay 1 week but we extended for an extra week because of how amazing it was. I honestly can't speak highly enough for this place. Thanks for everything 💗💗💗
- Amsaelm (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nina (10/5): I had the most wonderful time in Siem Reap thanks to Eric and his family, will definitely come back. - I really felt myself at home, the owners are so kind that it is beyond the words. If you are looking for a quiet and private room with all the basics you cannot make a mistake.
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional - Great hosts, David and Eric. Make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive always helpful and ready to have a talk. I recommend this place 100%. They also make great tea!
- Dositej (8/5): Very good - Good accommodation, good location, great atmosphere, possibility to book transportation to other cities Room with two beds and only two sockets in it
- Azura (7/5): Good - Charming Khmer Experience with a Few Hiccups
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
My stay at Angkor Ruby Guesthouse was a unique experience with a mix of positives and challenges.
The khmer style rooms lent a charming touch, providing a feeling of staying with a local family. However, the need for an extra charge for AC, while not a big issue during my cold-weather visit, could potentially be inconvenient during hotter months (Feb-July).
One drawback is the location, a bit further out with limited nearby dining options. The absence of restaurants in the vicinity might be a consideration for future travelers. Additionally, the water heater issue meant enduring cold showers on chilly days, which was a discomforting aspect of the stay.
On a brighter note, the staff at Angkor Ruby Guesthouse were a standout feature—super helpful and friendly. Their warm hospitality added a positive touch to the overall experience, making up for some of the inconveniences encountered.
In summary, Angkor Ruby Guesthouse offers a distinctive Khmer-style stay, but considerations like the extra charge for AC, location, and water heater functionality might influence your decision, especially during warmer months. The exceptional friendliness of the staff, however, contributes to a more pleasant stay overall. Additional Charge for AC: The necessity to pay extra for air conditioning, while not a major issue during my visit in colder weather, could be inconvenient for guests staying during the hotter months (Feb-July).
Location and Dining Options: The guesthouse is a bit further out, and there are limited dining choices in the immediate vicinity. This might pose a challenge for guests who prefer more dining options within walking distance.
Water Heater Issues: The non-functioning water heater resulted in cold showers on cold days, which was a discomforting experience.
- Rithesh (3/5): Poor -
- Paula (10/5): Exceptional - For the price and location the guesthouse was wonderful.
Basic but clean and spacious rooms.
Eric and his brother David were wonderful hosts.
Would definitely recommend this lovely guesthouse .
Thank you Eric and David for a great stay! All was good for the price!! Great value.
- Cyrille (7/5): Good -
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aginnel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joe (10/5): excellent - Exceptional since the owner/manager is a Cambodian that speaks fluent English. He was helpful in many ways from eating spots to navigating my way around town as a visitor. He also has all the services available from money exchange, and tours to laundry services and everything in between.
- Johan (10/5): Very pleasant - Very enjoyable stay. The hosts are friendly and they can speak a perfect english, which is pretty pleasant, usefull and rare in cambodia. There was a really good atmosphere in this hostel.
Très bon rapport qualité-prix, je conseil vivement !
Thank you so much David and Eric. Hope we'll meet up again !
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lillian (10/5): Exceptional - My experience here was incredible! I will treasure this place for a lifetime. The owners are the most welcoming, helpful people. Everything I needed was provided. They can help you with anything and to get anywhere. I spent hours in deep, beautiful conversation with the owners and I will definitely be returning! If I could give this place 100 out of 5 stars I would!
- Maria (8/5): simple but provided with everything you need including a super friendly host :) - the host is very friendly, welcoming and helpful for us and for the price everything was okay. it’s not too clean though.
- Usman (1/5): bad holiday - not good nothing
- Cheryl (6/5): Okay for a tight budget but would not recommend. - The location was great and Angkor Wat was easy enough go reach. I appreciate Eric's and David's help with figuring out our bus station and also setting up a space for me to use to take a work call. Overall, the experience was okay. The room was clean, the bathroom was just okay (clean but quite outdated and old). There was only 1 outlet point in the room and the multiplug we were given was faulty.
The wifi BARELY worked and many facilities (eg laundry, wifi in the rooms) were not functioning.
What we disliked the most was how money-minded everything felt. Even though Eric and David were helpful, it felt like they did so disingenuously. When we wanted to book multiple trips with their tuktuk (to and from our bus station and to Angkor Wat), they always overcharged. We were quoted $6 for a $1.50 trip (checking the Grab App) and were told that "the driver has to drive from an hour away so it's only fair that you pay $6". We found this to be quite unfriendly and ridiculous considering we had previously booked 2 day trips with the same tuktuk and expected that staying in this guesthouse, we won't be cheated.
This made the experience sour for us and we wouldn't recommend staying here.
