- Jennie (10/5): Good location near beach and great staff - Close to the beach NA
- Terry (8/5): It was mostly enjoyable - No breakfast options Traffic/train noise
- Lynda (10/5): We enjoyed it all! -
- Ra.dost (9/5): -
- Rowe Hernandez (9/5): Scenic ocean view - Such a scenic view from our balcony of the ocean! Our favorite part was hearing the waves crash at night. The road noise from PCH could be a little excessive during the day.
- Aric (9/5): -
- Ellen (10/5): -
- Michael (9/5): Enjoyed the decent size room and would recommend to others. - The ability to stretch out and relax. Like home away from home. Nothing comes to mind at the time.
- Karen (10/5): - Location Nothing
- John (1/5): FALSE ADVERTISING: HALF THE ROOMS FACE A SHADY CLIFF - The room was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. What this property does not mention in its website or through Booking.com is that half the rooms face a cliff and the other half face the sea. Almost any good hotel will distinguish the difference between these rooms via price, but there is no transparency here. There is also no mention of the fact that this is a timeshare property, and no guarantee whatsoever that an ocean view room could be assigned. When we checked in, I was incredulous to find that we did not have an ocean view room, and the person at the front desk simply said well this is a timeshare property, and it’s spring break, so all of the owners are occupying the ocean view rooms. I blame Booking.com for not more carefully vetting this property. I also strongly suspect that all of the owners have written most of the positive reviews about it, rather than actual guests. Descriptive language in the listing states that there are ocean views from the pool, and the photo shows a beach facing front of the hotel, with no photos of the back of the hotel. I strongly urge Booking.com to drop this hotel as a listing, or demand that they distinguish between Ocean view rooms, and cliff view rooms.
- deborahfF1086WS (10/5): Nice quiet comfortable stay - Very nice hotel. Quiet evening, clean room, comfortable bed. Staff was friendly and helpful. The view from the beach-side room was very pretty, and we had a balcony to sit on and enjoy it. There is a train track just across the street, but the noise was minimal and didn't bother us. There is a pedestrian bridge over the tracks for very easy access to the beach if that's your thing. This place also does timeshare rentals, but we were not part of that and felt no pressure at all to be part of that. The hotel does not have a restaurant, but there is a Mexican place right next door that looked pretty busy (we were going elsewhere, so no feedback there)
- Jim (9/5): - Location at the beach, comfortable room, large room, nice staff No food at the hotel and no breakfast options in walking distance

- lynnae (7/5): I really enjoyed our time. We had a great time. Nice quiet, peaceful area, other than our room door - I love this sweet. It was very clean nice spacious. I think my favorite part was the oversized bathtub. Love it. And being across the street from the beach. I didn’t like that on the second night of our stay we went out and came back around 11:30 PM and our sweet room was wide open. We had shut it. We made sure it was shut and we came back to an open door with our belongings everywhere out in the open was not a good feeling.
- Laurie (10/5): - Everything was fantastic. The room was meticulously cleaned, the bed was very comfortable, the kitchen was filled with everything you could need and the staff were incredibly friendly. The location, right across the street from the beach, couldn't have been better. The pictures don't do it justice. So do yourself a favor and book this hotel, you will not be sorry. It was perfect
- O (8/5): -
- Iain (8/5): - The room was very spacious and very comfortable. The staff were welcoming and helpful The pool and hot tub were not available, yet still advertised as facilities available on Booking, com
Booling.com did not ensure that questions were answered

- Aldie (8/5): Very nice. - Clean Slow Elevator.
- James (10/5): Family weekend getaway, relaxing and fun. Glad we stayed here, will return again! - Friendly staff, the room was clean and updated. Great view!! No complaints here!
- David (9/5): Spacious, convenient, and clean. - Great location on the coast, convenient to nearby towns without being in town. The room was especially spacious with kitchenette and separate bedroom. As noted by others, half the rooms have a view of the hillside. This has pros and cons. You don’t hear the highway, and you don’t see the ocean.
- Stephen (10/5): Wonderful staff, friendly atmosphere, great rooms and pool area. - The swimming pool and spa are lovely. Easy parking. Very clean and organized. Extra nice things like coffee in the foyer and a little welcome pack. The apartment was well set up. The whole complex feels friendly and there are games and books to borrow. The Mexican restaurant next door is awesome - worth going to just check out the decor. The beach directly across the road is stony. It’s about a 20 min walk to a lovely part of the beach, or a 3 min drive. So not too bad!
- mark (10/5): Lovely in every way. Thank u Nayeh, Sergio and Amanda. Hope to come back soon. - First and foremost the staff were friendly, knowledgeable, engaging and accomodating!
Location was great and layout of our 1 bedroom suite perfect for 3 adults. Kitchen super well equipped, beach towels included in unit , beach chairs easily available for use at beach across the street. Really overall layout and furnishings were perfect!!

- G9740PEsarahm (10/5): An Amazing Stay - Our stay at SurfSide was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived, Augstina at the front desk set the tone with her warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality. The resort’s location, right across the street from the beach made the entire stay feel special and effortless. Our room was spotless, beautifully maintained, and thoughtfully stocked, with a full kitchen, a completely clean PERSONAL outdoor grill and a relaxing balcony that made us feel right at home. Every detail reflected care and pride. We truly appreciated our time here and look forward to returning.
- Pollyanna (10/5): -
- Michael (10/5): - Location, staff and rooms were great Felt a bit outdated but not in a horrible way. Felt like we were visiting grandmas a bit
- gary (6/5): Was asked to take trash out, then asked to tip house cleaning - no breakfast
- Eugene (10/5): -
- Hilla (8/5): - We came to Dana point for a music festival and stayed at the Capistrano Surfside inn. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, very informative and nice. the accommodation was big, comfy, well equipped and well maintained. we really enjoyed our stay, the only thing is that (I assume) because of the festival the price of the room was extremely high, which made value for money relatively low. Under any other circumstances and if I didn't attend the festival I wouldn't have chosen to stay there for that price.
- I2413MSwilliamh (10/5): Another enjoyable stay at the Capistrano Surfside Inn - Very relaxing stay, as we have come to expect and exceptional staff, especially Augustina, who always takes care of us!
- Randee (8/5): Even though we didn’t get an Ocean View we would stay here again. - Great location. It was a good value. We were pleased to have a fully equipped kitchen (1 bedroom apartment). We got all of that for the same price as we payed for our hotel room in San Diego. We had the impression that we would have an ocean view. The fine print said they couldn’t promise that because it was a time share.
- Eugene (10/5): Love it here - Great location, great price, large rooms, clean, wonderful N/A
- Christopher (10/5): - Beautiful resort, great family stay, friendly staff
- white2rabbit (10/5): - A nice quiet place near the ocean. Very convenient, barbecue on the balcony.
- Kathryn (9/5): -
- whit (9/5): -
- Dina (8/5): I’ll definitely go back next time with a car so I can run my errands - It’s spacious and it feels like your own apartment. It has everything i needed It’s not close to shops or restaurants to buy food to take home. Nothing within walking distance. I didn’t have a car because I took Amtrak so I had to order uber eats
- Alyshia (10/5): - Very accommodating!
- Florian (8/5): -
- SHANNON (10/5): - Nice Kitchen and Walking to Beach Shuttle was close togo to other nearby beaches that had less rocks.
- Rosa (1/5): Horrible hotel ! And that only owners get “oceanfront balconies “ But that was not described in the feature from the hot - First I did not stayed in this property.
From the entrance it had a bad smell like mold all over. And I was supposed to get a room with “oceanfront balcony”.
I got a balcony to the mountain !!!!!
I was charge over &400 dollars for a room with a balcony to see the dirt !
- Candace (10/5): Amazing place great views - Amazing place, they had every extra for a great beach day with the family.
- Kimberly (10/5): This hotel is a true gem and the location can’t be beat! -
- Jennifer (10/5): - Spacious comfortable rooms, fully stocked kitchen. Loved the pool and hot tub and short walk to beach!
- Joseph (10/5): - Fantastic location, beach right across the street, close to many amenities and attractions, highway easily accessible. Airport less than half hour away. Nothing
- Adventure26040895106 (2/5): Beware, these guys don’t want your business - So, as background, my wife and I have stayed here regularly for over 30 years. We are not owners, we live in Los Angeles, and come down during off peak times just to have a room on the beach where we can relax and hear the waves. A couple of weeks ago, I was returning from a trip in a Sunday night and found our hot water heater was leaking, so I made a last minute reservation at 330 in the afternoon and headed to Dana Point so that I could shower. We've always had an oceanfront room and quite honestly, I wasn't even aware that they had rooms that weren't oceanfront. We checked in at 530, and went to our room and entered to find our room facing a wall of dirt and weeds in the back of the hotel. I approached the front desk and told them that this wasn't acceptable and that I would find somewhere else to stay if they were unable to accommodate us. The lady at the front desk said that they would still be charging the full rate as we weren't cancelling at least 48 hours in advance. Suffice to say, we won't be staying there anymore. Amanda, the manager is useless and clearly doesn't understand the value of repeat customers. Normally, we would stay here in off peak times (i.e. winter time during the week). Had she been willing to work with me, she could have made an effort to keep me as a customer, but clearly she has no concept of running a successful business, so the $200 that she made that night ultimately cost her thousands in future business. Beware of this place, they don't want your business, as they have people who are ignorant and paid into their time share scam. Go to the Best Western down the street, same price, and no BS to deal with
- Tigkran (10/5): -
- Patricia (6/5): Disappointing - We have stayed at this property on several occasions and enjoyed it. The unit this trip hadn't been updated, very noisy, dirty carpet just not up to par...but same price as totally renovated units. New, surprise to us, $25 resort fee. Legally should have been disclosed. No more loaner bikes, coffee service past 10 a.m. and cuts here and there that made the place special.
- Steve (5/5): Pretty basic. But good location. - Location Front desk lady wasn’t helpful. Wouldn’t allow for late checkout beyond an additional 15 minutes. Pool was much smaller than advertised. No AC in game room. Outlets don’t work in front outdoor seating area.
- Betsy (8/5): - This hotel is clean and quaint. The staff is helpful & friendly. The location is perfect if you are wanting to step off a property and across the street to a beach. No complaints. If your wanting/needing to stay in this area, it's a fantastic pick. Every summer I take my kids to San Diego for a few days. The La Jolla area. This year that trip didn't work out and I still wanted to get near a beach so I combined a quick school clothes shopping trip with a 2 night stay in San Clemente. Everything about this hotel is perfect. However it IS NOT San Diego and my heart isn't justifying the cost with the type of beach here in San Clemente. If this is the area you love or need to be in then staying here at the surf side inn is a fantastic choice. Next year I'll happily pay the extra hotel costs and drive the hour further to scratch my beach though.
- Susan (7/5): Great spot for a family vacation - Location was fantastic. Staff very friendly. Area was lovely and very walkable. Older facility. Bathrooms need an upgrade as they have gigantic old two person tubs- walk in shower would be much better.
- Robert (10/5): - The condo was very spacious & comfortable.
There was even a private, roofed patio in the back.
The best thing is that it was a short (5 minute) walk to the beach. The second best thing is that I was there for 2 nights & never moved my car. I also enjoyed the hot tub—& it’s long, open hours. The staff was friendly & helpful.
The only negative is that I was unable to hear the ocean from my room.
It was an incredible value.
- nancy (7/5): It was pleasant . Staff very friendly. Would book again just not summer vacation - location
size of room very noisy
kids running in hallway
kids overtaking s.p.a. and pool
very limited pool chairs
- junewolfberg (10/5): Delightful - Small family resort right on the Pacific Coast Highway, close to Dana Point, Capistrano, Laguna Beach. Very accommodating staff, updated units with full amenities for families, about 60 miles from LA. We have stayed there several times and have always been happy.
- Christopher (10/5): -
- Dania (5/5): Okay, but VERY basic - Okay location. Would be okay since across the road from the ocean, but only way to get to the beach is across a high set of stairs across the railroad tracks. If you don’t get a sea view room, forget it, all you see is a scrubby cliffside just a few feet from your window. No breeze, NO view. Even if you are on the side of the sea the view would be only of the parking lot on the first floor, with cars and people right at your balcony. Our room was clean, but very basic. We are older so that that only shower available was if you stepped in a high walled jacuzzi tub with slippery bottom was a real problem. Cheap cabinets and furniture.
- Tifanie (4/5): One and done - Knats in kitchen sink, leaking air conditioner, smoke alarm battery went off in middle of night,
- Carlos (10/5): Fun in sun - Close to beach Nothing
- Lauren (10/5): Perfect stay with your family! - The location is perfect, rooms are clean and spacious and the staff is super friendly and helpful! We will definitely be coming back! Earlier than normal check out time
- Lyndel (10/5): - Great location. Central to Capistrano- San Clemente. Right across from the beach. Really nice updated rooms. We would definitely stay here again.
- Cheryl (8/5): Good stay ! Enjoyed trip ! Location great close to everything (walking distance to beach , restaurant) Stay was outstand - It’s location !!! A little outdated
- Silvia (10/5): - Staff members very friendly !!!!
- Julie (10/5): - My husband and I came for a 2 day visit. We were told this place is a time-share when we checked in. We needed to change rooms and that was good. The first night we had a front ocean room and the second night we had a back hillside view. We liked the back room the best. The back bathroom did have a very short toilet. I’m 5’ 8”. We liked that there were bbq’s on the patio of both rooms, they have them on every patio. Because this place is a time share everything you need is in the room. Silverware, plates, glasses, bbq utensils, pans, casserole, strainer, wine opener, extra sheets and towels already in the room. Very nice place. We will come back.
- Ishi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linh (10/5): We had a great time celebrating my daughter’s birthday. The view of the beach from the balcony was beautiful! - The rooms were nice, plenty of parking and convenient. The lounge is a great place with a little bit more room to have fun. Sometime the elevator didn’t work.
- 496julianner (10/5): Great place to stay - Surfside was a lovely experience. Very clean lovely employees and excellent location. Unit was very comfortable with everything we needed. Would strongly recommend this resort to visit.
- Marlene (10/5): Exceptional - The 2 bedrooms were great. Large king beds were clean and comfy.
- Lorraine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (9/5): Superb - I liked that was very clean staff was great across street from beach That when i booked was never told i would need to move room on last day because of a time share that had room i was in and the room on last day was smaller and one bedroom had no tv
- Elsa (10/5): Staff was very friendly and accommodating. i’ve already booked to come back in August. - Everything was very nice, organized and clean. We loved everything about it.
- Penny (10/5): A Wonderful place to stay. - The studio was very spacious. We had a great view of the ocean from our balcony. Parking was a big plus. Everything was great.
- Qi (9/5): Superb -
- Darren (8/5): Over the rooms are very nice and comfortable! We had a nice stay ! - The room was nice and roomy ! Bathroom was a good size , just wish all rooms had bathtubs . Kitchen was a good size and loved the balcony with bbq was very nice ! A little too noisy with the Hwy and the train tracks being right out front . Wish the bottom floor had better view of ocean . Had problems with people on second floor stomping loud and kids running around and jumping . Very Loud in our room at 6;30 Am and 11:00 pm .
- Gilbert J (10/5): - Staying at Surfside Inn felt like we were home with all its comforts.
- Richard (10/5): - Great location
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Baxter (9/5): Superb - When my husband was unwell the staff told us where we could get help catered for our needs at check out so we didn't need to take all our luggage to the Urgent Care facility.
- Betty (10/5): - I would highly recommend this property for anyone wanting a home away from home feel.
- Trayvon (10/5): I recommend - The hotel was amazing very comfortable and offered a full kitchen and two bedrooms and balcony with a grill. The beach is directly across the street. Great location and grocery store not far.
Staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay.
- Road67468410698 (10/5): Very spacious condo. Great view - The resort was very clean. Staff was very nice and resort was close to everything. Only negatives were one bathroom for a two bedroom unit and the unit we had the door to the toilet would not open all the way to get into the toilet and shower area. Luckily we were all thin people or there would be no way someone could use the toilet. LOL.
- Criselda (10/5): We had a great time! Can't wait to go back! - Staff are courteous and very friendly.
Our room was nice and clean and has everything we need. The pool was cold when it was supposed to be heated
- Kathleen (10/5): Great staff, great location and well appointed. - This facility is a real hidden gem. They are so proactive on maintenance, service, amenities, cleanliness. The front desk reception is friendly and helpful, especially Lisa, who made our family feel welcome. We have used this place twice now, and we will use it again. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. Everything was great!
- Hope (10/5): - They had everything we needed, it was a beautiful location, and we enjoyed every minute!
- Verified traveler (2/5): No compassion for people - My boyfriend and I were excited to try this hotel out for my birthday week and he fell violently ill on the day of. I had to take him to the ER and he was in the hospital for a few days. The manager finally called me back after trying to get in touch for 3 days to see if I could reschedule. She denied my request and the hotel is trying to take my money still even though I didn't stay there. We will never stay there now. I've been in customer service for 28 yrs and that's not how you treat people. Would not recommend this place.
- Elisabeth (10/5): Fantastic customer service and beautiful place! - We stayed here because we were meeting up with family. The people at the front desk were not only very professional, but very accommodating. They gave us a room next door to our grandkids which made it so much fun! My husband is disabled and they were so kind and understanding in little ways that made a big difference. Our unit was immaculate, with everything we needed, including kitchen furnishings. The pool and spa were lovely and well kept. Thanks for a great experience!
- Deanna (10/5): Just what I needed. - This is a little hidden gem right at the beach. Great place and staff.
- Suzette (9/5): Superb -
- William (9/5): Superb -
- Jeyla (8/5): Excellent value for money close to elite areas - Huge, clean rooms — basically an apartment with all amenities including kitchen. Views of the beach. Friendly staff. The views include the highway and the railroad, can get very noisy.
- Mary (7/5): Not great not awful. - Walking distance to the dana point harbor When we checked in our room was not cleaned the trash was full the bed wasn't made. We had to leave and come back so they could clean it.a few days later we let them.know that the body wash dispenser was out, they said they'd take care of it but never did.
- Azilat (6/5): Pleasant -
