Guest Reviews
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Very comfortable room and quiet considering it was a public house. Slight noise from being on a main road but I live in a very rural area so any noise will be noticeable for me! Very friendly and helpful staff.
- Colin (8/5): Country pub with rooms. - We just stayed for one night as we were passing the area.
Everything was spotlessly clean and the bed was super comfortable with high quality bedding.
Our choice of breakfast was a full cooked English which was cooked to order with everything hot and tasty.
The owners were friendly and pointed us in the right direction for a walk nearby.
The only downside is the noise of the main road which is close by. If you don’t mind that then this is a really good place to stay.
- Kevin (10/5): - Nice friendly staff.
GF diet no problem, nice choice of food.
- Lee (10/5): Great B&B - Really nice people, made me feel welcome will book again for sure next time I am visiting Kendal
- Patricia (10/5): - Lovely Olde worlde pub. On a busy road but that didn’t matter at night for sleeping. Convenient parking. Owners & staff were all really friendly & helpful. Rooms were lovely, if a little small, but well decorated & welcoming. Food was great with a good choice. Would book again & definitely recommend.
- Dawn (8/5): - Lovely hosts, very warm and friendly and welcoming. The staff are also very helpful, in particular Krystyna. A thoroughly enjoyable stay.
- Justine (10/5): Superb place in the lakes - Absolutely brilliant place to stay. Owners couldnt be any friendlier, rooms very good and the pub food and breakfast was extremely good.
We will be back.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Lovely room, beautiful area and views, free parking.
Staff really friendly and helpful and knowledgeable about the area.
Lovely food onsite in the pub restaurant.
Would definitely recommend!
- David (10/5): The Lake Districts hidden gem ! - What an amazing place to stay. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, the place was clean and comfortable, the food was brilliant, parking was free, and we felt like locals from the minute we arrived. We feel like we found the Lake Districts hidden gem, and we've already booked to go back for a few days in August.
- Joanna (10/5): - Warm, friendly welcome by Lyn. The bedroom was clean with nice touches. Breakfast was excellent and good vslue dor money.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely overnight stay - The room was comfortable and looked very inviting. There was everything we needed. Breakfast was great, although we were too late to eat our evening meal there. The kitchen had closed. The shower was good. The saniflow toilet did not flush very well, but we appreciate that it was probably the only option when installing the en-suite. We would recommend the Punchbowl to others.
- Alan (10/5): Amazing . - Our stay at the Punchbowl was great , very friendly and lovely staff , made us feel at home and like we had known them for years , our room was clean ,warm and cosy , the food was lovely, plentiful and well presented, this was our second stay at the Punchbowl and hopefully will go back again .
- Graham Robert (8/5): - Welcoming and friendly staff good inn fair comfy bed hearty breakfast would stay again
- Ian (10/5): - A small inn, run by a lovely couple and their family, had a lovely time everyone were so friendly, very good meals at a very reasonable price, if you’re looking for a base to tour the lakes I thoroughly recommend the punchbowl.
- Gerry (10/5): - Excellent, great facilities & service - excellent breakfast
- Steven (10/5): - We had a lovely stay, the room was cosy and comfortable, had a great night sleep. Very very clean everything you need in the room. We also ate in the restaurant and the meals and breakfast were excellent. Everyone was lovely and made us feel welcome
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We would like to to thank Lynn, Ray, their son, daughter and staff for the excellent service. They were so friendly and nothing was too difficult. The food was very nice and our room was very clean and comfortable. I have no hesitation in recooending this family runn hotel and pub restaurant. We would definitely go back and stay. 😊
- sarah (10/5): Lovely night away for couples - It was beautiful and the people who worked there were so friendly and kind, the location was great for a late evening walks and was so close to popping over to lake windermere. The bed was cosy and warm and the room was really clean and cute, we can not wait to go back
- Andrew (10/5): Perfect one stop - Excellent. Very helpful and lovely staff. Room spotless if a little small made up by having an excellent bathroom. Food was also excellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): topover - A friendly family run pub. Simple home cooked food using local produce.
Comfortable bedroom. Great location if you are in transit on M6 and need somewhere to stopover.
- Brenda (10/5): Autumn short break - Very nice stay. Everywhere was clean and all the staff were so friendly and helpful. Plenty of on-site free parking available.
The bedroom was not huge, but comfortable and everything we needed was there. Husband really enjoyed the free bar of Kendal Mint Cake!
The food was good, although the main courses were too large for us, so we had a starter and dessert instead after the first day.
Good choice of breakfast, cooked to order. Plenty of locally sourced ingredients.
Thank you for a very pleasant stay.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - If you like a basic room, 10 feet away from a busy A road with 24hr traffic, then this is the place for you. Only good thing was the member of staff who received us and the bed. Booked breakfast for 8.30 and found we were locked in the premises. £110 for the night is ridiculous.
- Brian (10/5): Overnight Stay. - The service was excellent. Our only concern was that we had the bedroom at the front overlooking the main road and it may be noisy. In the event it was not a problem. Dinner and breakfast was very good.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cosy pub good wholesome pub food
Good choice of Real ales, spirits and wines
Rooms spacious clean and comfortable big fluffy towels
Breakfast excellent good use of local produce
Proper tea leaves and ground coffee 😊
Staff and management helpful friendly and knowledgeable
- daniel (10/5): The lodge cal culture - My rating is based on the staff and patrons of the Punch Bowl. I know when we stay in a 250 year old pub, i’m not going to get the Four Seasons. The rooms are small, the water pressure not so great. But Dave, the pub owner, Michelle, Chris and the rest of the staff were great. Spent lots of hours with them and we were not clients, but we were friends. Additionally, the locals made us feel right at home. Our stay wasn’t about 4 stars but rather experiencing the local culture, and the Punch Bowl was a great success in this regard. Oh, as a p.s. they make a great breakfast.
- Glen (10/5): - Location was great for access to anywhere in the Lakes Area. We also did an easy day trip to Liverpool.
Great towels and very friendly staff. Rooms are upstairs but staff more than willing to help with luggage access. Would definitely stay there again. Great breakfast with personalized service.
- Robert (10/5): - Very pleasant stay.....everyone helpful. And the mint cake on the pillow was a nice touch.....!
- Barry (8/5): Loosening of belts will be required! - Accommodation was good with plenty of welcoming treats, including Kendal Mint Cake and a large bowl of sweets. Ideally, us southerners would have liked the radiators to have been on in mid-November. Restaurant fayre and breakfast comprised of enormous portions of excellent food.
- Paul (10/5): Gem of a place to stay. - Gem of a place. Very comfortable room with good facilities. Good dinner - I loved the potted shrimp. Breakfast was fantastic, cooked to order and just how you like it with top quality ingredients. If you are staying for business, you might ask for the room with a desk.
- david (10/5): Wow outstanding - We stayed here for my wife’s birthday what a amazing weekend the food was outstanding. The service was good from start to finish. And I can say the breakfast was the best I have ever had.
- Ian (8/5): Always go back - As per always no issues with this place
- John (10/5): - Very comfortable accommodation, lovely bed and a good breakfast. Excellent, friendly service. A brilliant stay.

- Robert (8/5): - Hotel set about a mile outside of Kendal on a busy (ish) road.
Hotel / pub / restaurant are excellent.

- John (8/5): Friendly pub, great room - The rooms at the Punch Bowl have been recently upgraded and they offer a clean, comfortable environment in a welcoming pub that provides good access to Kendal and the surrounding environs. The food on offer is good value and wholesome. The full breakfast will set you up for the day.
- Andrew (8/5): Cosy place during the 'beast from the east' - Friendly staff. Heating was broken, so the owner called us before we arrived and offered the opportunity to book elsewhere. We still stayed at the Punch Bowl as the owner offered elec heaters in out rooms, which were more than adequate on a v cold night during the snow blizzard. Nice food. Plenty of parking. Good wifi.
- Verified traveler (10/5): 5 Star! - I had a really good stay at the Punch Bowl - the owner and all the staff were really welcoming and friendly.
The only have a couple of rooms - my room was really nice with a modern bathroom with great shower, really comfortable bed and great amenities. Everywhere was really clean and well looked after too.
Breakfast in the morning was fab - great choice and hearty portions of really good quality food (as was my pub meal the night before).
The landlord was really accommodating and even cleaned the snow off my car in the morning!! Thanks for a great stay - I'll definitely return next time I'm in the area.
- David (10/5): Friendly Pub - Lovely little pub with rooms. Warm welcome from the owner and all the staff. Food was great.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Great B and B - Lovely pub, with great food. Rooms were well equipped, had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was exceptional. Can't wait to visit again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect Stopover Between Islay and West Susex - After a long day travelling, including a two hour rather choppy ferry journey, the Punch Bowl was just what we needed in every way,
- Jon (8/5): Unique Place to Stay - A really cute room and nicely appointed with a king sized bed, a rarity in most of the places we stayed in England. The owners are very friendly and had stocked the room with nice treats including a huge Kendall Mint bar! The pub was very nice, and there was no noise problem from it at all when we were in our room upstairs. The only reason I would give it a 9 out of 10 is that the toilet needed to be flushed multiple times whenever used and made unusual noises--probably a very old plumbing system. Otherwise, a very nice place to stay in a lovely area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): cosy - Very clean, bed comfy breakfast was fantastic managers and staff were very welcoming.
- Barry (10/5): Great place to stay - Great place lovely room and friendly people. One of the best breakfasts I have had, sorry I didn't make it in time for an evening meal
- Rita (10/5): Lovely Place to stay - Very pleasant.
- Ann (10/5): Wonderful inn outside Oxenholme and Kendal. - Lovely room over excellent pub. Quiet, high standard of comfort, nicely updated bathroom; staff helpful and friendly. Accessible by train and taxi ad well as by car.
- John (10/5): Punch 'Super' Bowl - Great place to stay. Friendly owners, great food, great atmosphere and a pleasure to stay. Would definitely recommend to business or pleasure travellers.
- Julie (10/5): Cosy and comfortable - We made an overnight stay and really enjoyed it. We would have liked to have stayed longer and would most definitely return. The landlord was friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel, excellent location, and helpful staff, - Would highly recommend this hotel vary clean, friendly, would stay again
- Andrew (10/5): Friendly Place - Friendly staff & good food.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Will Definitely Return - Absolutely lovely stay at The Punch Bowl.
We was made to feel welcome by the landlord Dave.
The food was amazing, with extra large portion sizes.
- Lisa (8/5): Good Inn near Kendal - Stayed 2 nights and would definitely recommend. The inn has the best of both worlds as it's in a pretty rural location with views over open countryside, yet on the main road leaving Kendal so it's easy to find and a good base for touring the Yorkshire Dales or Lake District. Staff are friendly and attentive. Ample car parking. Room was attractively decorated and very clean and tidy. Good bar with wood-burning stoves.
- Elaine (10/5): Lakeland gem, with gingerbread vodka - Very friendly owner and staff, nothing too much trouble.
- Philip (10/5): I'll be back!! - Great hotel. Spotlessly clean. Comfy bed and pillows. Nicely decorated room with great tea and coffee and snack facilities. Large TV. Really friendly and helpful staff and locals. I was asked what time I would like breakfast and I said not to worry as I needed to be away early. The owner asked me if I would like an evening meal off the menu in lieu of breakfast. I have never known this in all my years of staying in hotels. I have had continentals left out for me or packed lunches made up but never this. I was gobsmacked and more than happy to take him up on this offer. Great stuff.
- simon (10/5): Stopover - Lovely and friendly staff, excellent food, clean and comfortable rooms.
- Peter (10/5): Hidden gem - Cosy & well managed hotel, breakfast was absolutely superb
