- Jessica (9/5): First time stay - Everything was great, loved the cleaning lady she was funny and welcoming! Loved the room service and complimentaries, the location was great, heating and cooling worked well, kettle and bar fridge were great, bathroom was cute and convenient for its size! Not a bad little view over the roof! Staff were all very friendly! Bed was too soft for me but thats fine!
The light bar in our room may need replacing, didnt use it as there was a lamp and other lighting.
The window opener is a little loose so may need repair or tightening as it needed a gentle touch.
Under the sink in the bathroom wasn't accessible, maybe for a reason?
Tv isnt smart so bring a chromecast if you want to stream Netflix or other apps.
None of this effected our stay!

- Diane (8/5): Will be continuing to stay at Night Cap when we need to come to Melbourne -
- Madeline (1/5): Horrible experience - Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish. When we arrived, we were not informed there were no lifts and had to carry all of our luggage upstairs ourselves, which was very inconvenient.
There were painting works happening in the room next door, and the fumes were overwhelming. Our room also smelt strongly of bleach, and the window would not open as it appeared to be jammed, leaving no proper ventilation. The conditions felt unsafe and very uncomfortable, which made it impossible for us to stay.
Due to this, we had no choice but to leave early. What made the situation even worse was the poor customer service. Staff were rude, unhelpful, and dismissive of our concerns. We also contacted them via email and received no response, and our request for a refund was refused despite the circumstances.
Overall, this was a very frustrating and disappointing experience. I would not recommend staying here, especially given the lack of care for guest safety and customer service.
- Maree (8/5): Perfect for our needs - Beds were comfortable, parking was convenient The bathroom could do with an upgrade but price reflects this
- Georgina (4/5): - Location No staff reception. Finally found staff member. Supposedly booked us into dinner but no booking. Also, didn't point out 2 vouchers so missed $5 discount each off overpriced drinks & 10% off our meals. Not explained how to re-enter so locked out next morning.
Very noisy at night - room large, noisy exhaust vents outside window. Struggled to shut window. Bed sunk in middle. No toilet roll holder. Forgot to check before - no lift. Room looked alot better online. No microwave.

- Kelly (9/5): - Always love staying here. Best location and the staff are so lovely Nothing - probably the stairs but good exercise
- Bianca (7/5): Also ich würdenicht noch einmal dort übernachten. - Die Lage ist gut. Alles ist sauber. Die Fotos haben mehr versprochen. Sehr hellhörig. Fenster ging nicht auf. Aussicht aufs Dach und den Schornstein.
- Lynne-Maree (7/5): Excellent location and great, helpful staff. - Location was fabulous, staff friendly and helpful. Great bathroom with large shower rose and lovely hot water. The bed wasn’t too comfortable for me, a bit soft. And having to access the room by stairs (27 of them) was a bit challenging for me with a bad knee.
- Trina (9/5): Good value, unexpected ocean views, quiet and very clean. Very friendly staff including the lovely cleaner we met. - Good value, unexpected ocean views, quiet and very clean.
Very friendly staff including the lovely cleaner we met. Thank you.

- John (6/5): Comfortable for price in that area. Staff/housekeeper are great. - Excellent location Do not take room 4. A loud A/C unit for restaurant below runs 24 hours right next to window. We were fortunate after making a complaint to be switched to room 10 for our second night. The staff were very helpful and knew full well the reason we were wanting to change.
- Christina (7/5): Great location, but noisy A/C - Fantastic location. Nice view. Clean room, free parking. The a/C unit for the restaurant was right outside our room (4) and it ran all night and was incredibly loud. Beds too soft.
- Nickles (9/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful No complaints

- Mathilde (5/5): - Humidité +++
- rkiel (6/5): So so - Staff, bed was comfortable and shower excellwbt It was shabby. The bed-end light didn't work. The key didn't work on the outside door.
- Saif (9/5): -
- Vivienne (6/5): - Location perfect for my stay. More than adequate for a short stay. Expensive for the one night but convenient
- Flint (9/5): -
- David (1/5): I would advise travellers to stay clear, have a meal but don't stay the night. - I disliked my stay immensely. After the first night I wish I could have cancelled the booked and gone somewhere else, the place is terrible. Everything in the room is old and run down. The bed sagged on one side while the other side was like sitting on a hill, very uncomfortable way to sleep. The bathroom facilities were poor, the toilet was difficult to flush, the toilet paper was far away from the seat. The lamp was old and damaged as was the very high mirror. The fridge was constantly wet inside and the freezer compartment door was broken off. The window looked like it would break so I didn't open it and the view was non existent. The bathroom was not cleaned at all, just replaced the towels. Even the bed was only made, no fresh sheets, yuk. Booking.com should not keep this place on there on their list.
- Shirley (9/5): Relaxing staycation - The reception was so nice and helpful. Room as per photos, comfy and clean. Across the road from the beach. Loved the complimentary soft drinks and water in the mini fridge, and the mini breakfast boxes. Also really liked how we got drink vouchers and a percentage off our dinner. Nice dining views of the beach. Toilet roll holder on the back of the door.
- NattyL (9/5): Lovely and quiet. Staff are welcoming and friendly. Rooms well appointed and clean. - Great location. Clean. Friendly. Quiet. Great views. Informal and relaxing.
- Michelle (10/5): Great value for money! - Convenient, comfortable & quiet Nothing
- Phelan (8/5): Comfortable - Amenities Lift to get upstairs
- Franklin (8/5): Great staff, fair facilities and great location. - Staff were friendly and helpful. room a bit tired.
- Liz (7/5): Once over the unwelcoming check in it was a good stay - Location, comfy bed, good sized clean room. The room attendant/cleaner very friendly and helpful ( total opposite of checkin ) Arrived a little after 1pm, checked in, provided with room keys, now around 1.15 pm, staff informed us we were not permitted to enter room ( although ready and giving us the room cards ) until 2 pm !!!! Have never ever experienced this kind of pettiness before … found this very interesting and unfortunate… felt unwelcome ..
No towel rails/hooks in tired ( but spotless) bathroom cleaner said this is going to be rectified soon
- Andrew (8/5): Great location. Will stay again. - Great location. Short walk to beach. Close to station and supermarket. Very pleasant as always.
- Sue (8/5): Great location and price. - Location right next to shops, cafes and beach. Having pub downstairs was convenient too. The room wasn’t available at 2. Unluckily we had the room which was being cleaned last. And could not get a later exit time. I would have liked a toaster too.
- Caroline (8/5): Very good stay. Clean, comfortable room with nice touches. - Good amenities in the room. I loved the TimTams Difficulty in finding the check in
- Brian (10/5): Couldn’t have been better!! - It was absolutely amazing. Good location, plenty of places to eat around, and train station walking distance to go to the city (presumingly, we didn’t go to the city). Easy to get to and from from out of town, and plenty of parking. Nothing. Slightest little problem was the corridor was a little noisey from other guests coming back to their room, but honestly not a big deal whatsoever.
- Malcolm (8/5): -
- Russell (8/5): -
- Pun (7/5): - Overall is good Speed of WiFi is too slow. No earlier check in, only check in after 2pm and no luggage storage if arrive early
- Danielle (9/5): -
- Gavin (4/5): Great location but requires greater care in room prep for the next guests. - Good location Unfortunately the room whilst made up had not been quality controlled or inspected, ready for the next visitor. There was no toilet paper, the room had not been cleaned or vacuumed and there was a previous guest’ full hair extension hanging over the rail in the open cupboard.
More care needs to be taken!
- Wendy (8/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): - It was so quiet. Being attached to The Sandy hotel I was worried it would be loud at night but we didnt hear any noise and the beds were very comfortable.
- Dion (6/5): -
- George (8/5): -
- Jonas (8/5): Good option if you stay some nights in Sandrigham - Newly refurbished rooms in what mainly is a pub/restaurant. Good beds. -
- Jessica (8/5): -
- Tamara (8/5): - Fab close to beach and friendly staff
- Joey (7/5): - Good location. Near the beach, lovely cafes, great grill house downstairs, but not noisy and delicious Vietnamese Le Phan across the rd. Short drive to church street shops and hampton street shops for more refined designer shopping. Train station almost across the road, easy and direct access to Flinders station Melbourne city. The room was very basic but it was clean and serviced daily. Good short stay. Price reasonable. Parking incl. Small coles nearby too. The aircon was a little noisy and our room looked over the roof but we could still see the lovely sunsets over the sea. Rooms could do with some refreshing as they are basic and a little tired.
- Monique (10/5): Above a pub yet very quiet and very comfortable - Clean comfortable quiet room. Very comfortable bed. Staff were incredibly helpful. Really appreciated the free drink vouchers and the free water and soft drinks in the room fridge. Not something you get as a traveler very often. Also as a solo female traveler I felt safe and secure. Easy check in and out. Great sunset view from my room. Short walk downstairs for food and drink and a very good Vietnamese restaurant across the road. Coles supermarket around the corner and the station at the end of the street. Highly recommend this place! Nothing.
- Eggleston (9/5): Great I will come back. This will be my place to stay in Melbourne. - Location was great. Near the Train easy to get to.
The room was very clean, great cleaning Staff.
The Pub bar service was very good. The pub food was good value.
The weather was great, a bit cool in the mornings. The toilet paper was on a string (almost). Very minor that's all.
The pokies...
Could not get into my room until 2pm, after flying into Melbourne at 5am with no sleep. Will not do the night fly again.
- Luisa (5/5): -
- Scott (6/5): Typical pub stay - Location to beach A bit run down
- Matthias (10/5): -
- David (10/5): -
- alec (8/5): -
- Kellt (6/5): - Clean and location was good
- Jennifer (10/5): Brilliant - The Sandy is a great place to stay the location overlooking the bay is beautiful the room was clean, the beds are super comfy we received a complimentary drink on arrival and the staff are friendly, welcoming, helpful and really made you feel at home Could not fault it
- Berniece (8/5): Great location! Amazing food plus service was fantastic! Clean and cosy. - We absolutely loved staying at the Night Cap in Sandringham.
Having great food and room service plus customer service was of high standards, it just made the experience of the stay even nicer. Just not having a closer room to our family.
We were a family of six and would have loved to stay closer together but unfortunately it was a busy week so it was quite understandable.
But other than that it was perfect!
- Paula (6/5): Convenient for the beach and good value for money - The room was spacious and the property was close to the beach The hotel is a bit tired and the food and drink offering was basic. No lift to bedrooms
- Graham (8/5): -
- Louisa (8/5): Love waking up to the ocean view! - Excellent value for money!
- Andrew (9/5): - Lovely location. Short walk to beach or Station. Easy on-site parking. Comfortable bed.
- Melissa (5/5): Great location which was walking distance from tje Sandringham yacht club - View out of the window; rooms 8.9 & 10 have good views. It would have been better if the window could open as it was locked. Free parking. The Little Ray of Sunshine cafe for coffee & breakfast, the Ammos Greek Tavern & the Sandy hotel restaurant 3 days out of our 9 nights our room was not serviced as the lady who was the most amazing, helpful room attendant was on her days off. The shower was very difficult to get the right temperature- it was either scalding hot or freezing cold with not much water pressure. There was no exhaust fan in the bathroom so it steamed up very fast.
- Reza (7/5): - the sunset was awesome from the
room reception didnt accept us check in for 10 mins before and we had to wait.
- Mathew (3/5): -
- Julie (6/5): Overall you get what you pay for but it suited my purpose - Location was great The noise early in the morning of kids running up and down the stairs
- Denis (9/5): -
- zhang (9/5): -
- Nelligere Shivalinge Gowda (3/5): Unclean - Room was unclean, sounds from aircon and outside windows too much noise from aircon condense Rooms was unclean
- Buckee (9/5): - The staff were super friendly
- Cees (8/5): - Mooi uitzicht op zee Geen
- Lena (5/5): Great location, staff very helpful, view from the room of nice sunset over the water - Location A lot of stairs to get to the rooms.
Rooms not very sound proofed. Were able to hear the tv from the room next door both in the evening and at 5am
- Doreen (8/5): -
- Laurence (7/5): -
- Concetta (10/5): - Location was close to town and beach Maybe a tad expensive for a night stay
- Kelly (9/5): - Comfy bed, location No toilet roll holders
- Rosemarie (9/5): - Great to have Bistro on site Stairs. Difficult to carry luggage as you age
- Kathryn (9/5): good sleep, great value - soft comfortable bed, quiet room, good sleep, bay view, roomy, basic decor but great value hooks for towels
- Sean (7/5): Good for 1 night stay is visiting close by - Clean rooms, easy to access, good parking Little bit far away if visiting city centre. And the “free drinks” card weren’t enough to cover the cost of a drink. Asking for $1 to meet the gap of the drink card is a bit cheeky.
- Wayne (9/5): Very Enjoyable. - All aspects of the Sandy were great but the quality of the steaks on the menu were outstanding. all ways cooked to perfection. Not that this matter was very poor but the cleanliness of the men's toilet located between the two bars was below average. we could smell the toilet when we sat near the pool table in the bar. Even the toilet/shower in our room could have used a little more care - the top of the tile skirting needed a good scrub.
- Mark (8/5): -
- Gavin (6/5): Reasonable for the money, would consider again. - Location was good Dated rooms and bathroom. Stairs were the only option, no ground floor accom.
- David (7/5): - Location. Meal was good. Slow to check in.
- Andrew (9/5): - Nice room, it’s upstairs if you have trouble up stairs. Plenty of parking downstairs. Food was nice
- Terry (8/5): -
