Guest Reviews
- Amanda (10/5): - The staff was very friendly and helpful.
- Karin J (8/5): - Very comfortable room. Clean fresh. Great staff
- Fam.
- Hannah (10/5): - Staff was so friendly and we loved walking to the waterfall behind the lodge!
- Renata (6/5): High pricetag and far away from the main road - High pricetag and far away, bed good and shower. Would not use this hotel again
- Callie (10/5): - An absolute gem! The lodge was clean, well-maintained, and appeared either fairly new or renovated. The countryside was beautiful and serene. The large deck boasted a view of the bay. My husband, sons (ages 17 and 12), and I enjoyed a beautiful hike up the mountain with waterfall and had a relaxing soak in the hot tub before bed. The room was spacious and clean and had a private bathroom. The breakfast looked fresh and appetizing.
- Kim (10/5): - Loved our stay here. The staff were excellent - both Mossy at check in and Artruro our Polish waiter for dinner. The food was fabulous. We were able to walk to a close-by waterfall which was fun. Lots of birds around. They had a sauna and hot tub but it kept raining so we did not utilize it. Although this place seems to be in the middle of nowhere, it was amazing! Really liked it and would highly recommend to other travelers. The road was a bit rough but honestly, we drove on much worse in Iceland.
- Jordy (10/5): - The room was nice, and the staff was super kind.
The food was also one of the best we’ve had during our 12-day trip to Iceland. The jacuzzi was easy to operate, and a joy to relax in at the end of a long day. The perfect place for a 1-night sleep, although we would’ve stayed longer if we could.
Only downside to our room was that it was impossible to get it dark during the longer summer days. It would’ve been great if there was a curtain to darken the room a bit more. Beyond that, Vogur was excellent!
- Houshi (10/5): - It is very clean and quiet.
- Christiane (10/5): - Out of 12 days in Iceland, this was the best stay experience we had. Artur and Konstantin were so nice and helpful, even for just two guests. They bent over backwards for us, had great recommendations, the best food we’ve had, and made us feel so at home. This place is a hidden gem and I hope many, many more people go and see them!
- zhongjian (10/5): - We watched northern lights in front of the hotel thanks to the staff
- Molly (10/5): - Vogur Country Lodge is in a very remote part of Iceland. The area is stunningly beautiful and this hotel is a perfect place to stay as a gateway to the West and West Fjords. The hotel is clean, comfortable and well staffed by Constantin, who prepared incredible meals. The hotel has a hot tub and a sauna. It's a lovely place to stay. I hope I get a chance to come back!!
- Paula (10/5): - This was one of our favorite properties in Iceland. It's remote, quiet and provides local experiences. On our way to this property, we experienced so many amazing views and saw 2 herds in the road... one sheep and the other horses. The manager of the property was super personable and our suite was very nice. I highly recommend this property!
- Adriaan (10/5): - Fantastic place, great kitchen and a great environment to explore.
- Barbara (10/5): Great hotel and restaurant. - Great hotel. About 15 miles away from Holmavik. Great staff who were very helpful. Restaurant has great buffet and service on premises. Would definitely stay here again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Hard to sleep - The doors have a glazed panel in their upper section, which is not covered by a blind or curtain. In summer this allows the midnight sun to shine light into the room all night long. I hardly slept at all.
- Iván (10/5): Genial - Todo perfecto
- Ketan (10/5): - Good rooms and dining options
- Skye (10/5): - This place was extraordinarily special. The room was Icelandic: simple and clean. But the location was astoundingly beautiful and remote. The host was lovely, funny, and warm. The food was DELICIOUS: please try the potted fish soup. They were kind in offering gluten free options for me. As long as you like walking up to a private waterfall and down to a beach, visiting sheep, and seeing amazing vistas, this place is epic. If you are looking for nightlife, restaurant options, or lots of outings, I'm afraid the remoteness may be frustrating even if the drive is gorgeous. Just enjoy the hot tub and the brain cleanse of this beautiful place.
- Yu-Shan (10/5): - I had one of the rooms on the 2nd floor (#25). It only had one small side window - wished it was larger (for view and also for more fresh air). Note: it did have one large skylight window, but that is just for viewing the sky. Otherwise, great place to stay.
- MELINA (10/5): - Beautiful place and wonderful food!
- Suzee (10/5): - Amazing place to stay and the staff was excellent
- Mario (10/5): - Very nice location, in the middle of nowhere with a waterfall nearby.
Extremely welcoming and friendly and beautiful dog.
Very nice jacuzzi.
Chambre scandinave propre.
- Max (8/5): - WIFI only works well in common area. the access point not strong enough to reach the room
- James (10/5): - I cannot say enough good things about this place. Secluded, excellent restaurant, superior staff. Exceedingly friendly and helpful owner. 30 km down a dirt road to paradise.
- Donald (10/5): - Out of the way location with a beautiful backdrop. The hotel has its own private waterfall.
- Dhaval (10/5): - If you are looking for a weekend gateway or you are just traveling to Iceland and want some great experience of Iceland country side, this is a place for you. It's out of the way from your typical tourist spots but location is absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend the place.
- antony (6/5): - The view was not great on the superior rooms as it was on the track and car park not as described. The Hot Tub was not that clean and the direction was all wrong
- Robert J (8/5): Langs ongebaande wegen in Westelijk IJsland - Prachtige locatie.
- Ólafur Ari (10/5): Perfect - Our 30th wedding anniversary. We arrived when the restaurant was closing. They waited for us and we had a perfect dinner. Then we checked in and went to the hot pot and sauna. Perfect evening.
- Chanelle (10/5): - Beautiful property & grounds. the staff is amazing & accomodating,
It is very remote on a dirt road but it adds to its charm.
they also have a great cat.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We happened to be the only guests the evening we stayed. There were a number of guests the night before and after. Our host offered to make us dinner when we arrived, but we were tired and refused. We had a wonderful breakfast the next morning and were on our way..
- Alex (10/5): - Very nice hotel, in the middle of nowhere, new and clean. We liked it!
- Alex (10/5): - Nice hotel! In the middle of nowhere, new very nice hotel!
- Leslie (10/5): Nice countryside hotel - Breakfast for an extra fee, but was very delicious. Very clean and comfortable. Not many conveniences nearby due to being located in the countryside, but nice ocean view & waterfall on mountain out back of hotel.
- Monica (2/5): NOT AS ADVERTISED - the advertisement on here is COMPLETELY WRONG. it is not close to the city it advertises, its actually 90 miles away!!!!! I specifically booked this because it was advertised as only being 14 miles from Stykkisholmur, imagine my surprise when we arrived and found out it was actually 90 miles away! They refused to let us cancel the reservation so we ended up paying double as we booked a different place near the town we originally planed on.
- Wayne (6/5): OK but not great - Difficult to find the place; long distance to travel over a gravel road to get there with no signage whatsoever to confirm you are going the wrong way
- HDeonarine (6/5): Lovely spot. - Approx 45 mins to get to the hotel. Hotel could not find our booking but they cared. Nice to stop over. Nice staff.
- Gary (4/5): Watch the food cost - The lodging was good. No place to eat except hotel, the chef ask if we were eating at lodge. We said yes. Then he ask if we wanted steak or lamb. No menu was provided. Our mistake was not asking price. Cost for two was 184 usd. I drank coffee and my wife had 1 glass of wine. Meal was good, price was upsetting. The lodge is now where near another town.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely and quiet place to stay. - My daughter and I traveled to Vogur Country Lodge as part of a trip around the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.
The lodge is a little out of the way, but it is a lovely gem. I would highly recommend the Lodge, especially if you
had the time to enjoy the restful and quiet experience there.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Far from everything but amazing - This place was our favorite place to stay and we stayed in a lot of hotels in Iceland. I believe it's a family owned hotel. The room was very spacious with an equally spacious bathroom. There is no TV but that was ok with us. The food is amazing. It was by far our favorite meals throughout our entire trip. You can't go wrong with anything the chef makes. Be warned though, it is in the middle of nowhere so be sure to bring snacks. But the chef does make lunch for you if you ask him too (he will even come back if he has left the property). There is a gorgeous waterfall on property that was fun to check out.
- Chad (8/5): Nice luxury surprise - We had a change of plans while we were in Akureyri, and had to find a last minute booking. This was seemingly the only place available that was on the way to our next destination, and while the 40km of gravel road to get to it in our little car was a little much (and unexpected), it was well worth it once we arrived. The room was spacious, clean, new, modern, and we had a very much welcomed private bathroom. The only reason it didn't get five stars was that the hot water was spotty, and the water pressure isn't great, but otherwise it was just what we needed. The wifi is slow to almost nonexistent, but you don't come to Iceland for internet. We also ate dinner at the restaurant and the food was great. They had some real creative dishes and were well executed. Service was a little clunky, but I have no complaints about it.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice building and poor services. - The lodge is modern, the rooms are spacey, clean and with good beds, but the service was below expectations. Worst was that the promised high speed wi-fi didn't work or was slow the few times we were connected. Our first breakfast, a monday morning, was a disappointment. Bad coffee, only white bread and tasteless waffles. The lodge is in need of a hotel manager!
- Michael (6/5): Get away from it all - Great place to relax.
- Carolyn (8/5): Great surprise after an unpaved drive out - Had comfortable stay and tasty dinners. Friendly service.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - overall okay but too far from tourist spots
- Verified traveler (10/5): Super relaxing room with a view! - We had spent 3 days in reyjkavik and were glad to get away from it all and enjoy the serenity of remoteness!
- Joanne (6/5): Disappointing - People who run the lodge are very nice, and the chef is excellent. But there is no TV in the public room as advertised, internet did not work in our room, and our room was not cleaned or serviced during our stay. Also breakfast was not included as advertised. So we spent our down time there in the public room with internet. Now if there had just been free coffee. . . .but there was a charge for that by the cup. This is a remote location, 30 miles off the main road, so it was a pain to go touring from here and the gravel road damaged our rented vehicle, so we would not stay here again.
- Frank (8/5): Recommendable remote place - Nice hotel in a remote but beautiful location: awesome view on a fjord and a spectactular waterfall in the backyard - stunning! The restaurant is nice and has good food but service, although very friendly and trying, was not really great. Our room was very clean but lacked small towels and the furniture was not exactly perfect.
- Mark (10/5): A great country setting. - This place really is out in the country. It was nice and quiet with wonderful views. The staff were friendly. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Largest bathroom of any hotel we stayed at in Iceland. There's a hot tub and sauna free to use. Just be advised that it's at least a 30-45 minute drive down a dirt road (fine for cars) and there really is nothing else around.
- Andy (10/5): Lovely remote location - Although this place really is a long way on an unpaved road from the nearest village, it really adds to the peace and quiet - there is NO noise here outside except for nature - a rare thing these days !
The staff could not do enough for us and our daughters - nothing was too much trouble !
The food was stunning - some of the best we have had anywhere, let alone in Iceland
Breakfast was more than adequate.
We will come back !
Well-recommended
- Adam (6/5): Expensive mixed bag - We booked this hotel for one night while on the road, because of its location (the only one in the vicinity) and online info. Getting to it requires driving about 30km on a gravel road. The view of the Snaefelsnes Peninsula across the bay is spectacular, but from the hotel it is obstructed somewhat by a farmhouse that I presume belongs to the hotel owners. There is absolutely nothing else in the vicinity of the hotel. The room was a good size with comfortable beds, but too hot with no way to control the temperature, making sleeping difficult. Soap and shampoo were not provided.
We ate dinner in the restaurant (nothing else around). We were offered these choices: salad, an entree of either fish or lamb, and a dessert. The server was uninformed, didn't know what kind of fish it was (turned out to be arctic char). We decided to have salad and entrees. Even with just 2 choices, the server got our order wrong - forgot the salad, so we told him to bring it after the entrees, at which point they had run out of salad. On the plus side, the fish and lamb were both excellent. Breakfast the next morning was fine.
The info we had read about the hotel spoke of a hot tub, so we were looking forward to using it while enjoying the view. When we found it, it was not heated above room temperature, so we were disappointed there, too. All in all, we would have found it acceptable for a 1-night stopover, but the prices were too steep for what we got.
- Eric (10/5): Great Hotel, and Staff - Hotel is a great place to get away from the crowds. Food was excellent, staff was super and very willing to help with any question. Room was very clean and bed was not too soft or hard, for me almost perfect. Already planning to go back this spring. Definitely recommend this place.
- Paula (8/5): Wonderful and peaceful Icelandic stay - Having spent six strenuous days sight-seeing and trekking over southern Iceland, my daughter and I then traveled to the Vogur Country Lodge where we rested a bit among the most striking other-world landscape on Earth. I wished that I had had the ability to paint as the scenery was unbelievably beautiful. In my mind the music of Edvard Grieg played and Tolkien's characters seemed very close at hand. This lodge is quite remote from everything so we were glad that we had purchased a few snacks earlier which we brought with us. Our evening meal of beef prepared by the Vogur Country Lodge chef was cordon bleu in quality. As is true for most things purchased in Iceland, the price was greater than would have been paid in the States, but the quality was superior.
Due to the remoteness of the Vogur Country Lodge, locating it was a challenge as we only had a Garmin navigational device to use. We were very glad that we had rented a heavy four wheel drive vehicle as the gravel road to the Lodge had no guardrails and at times the wind seemed to be blowing at least 60 miles an hour.
A very nice sauna and hot tub were available free of charge for all hotel guests, and horses and bicycles could be rented..
Our hours spent here were golden.
