Guest Reviews
- Babs (8/5): Mooie, centrale riad.

- Francesca (10/5): Welcoming and lovely spot, super central location - Wonderful Riad, close to everything, very well kept and caring service Nothing

- Marion (4/5): Es gibt bessere riads - Es waren viel zuviele hohe Treppenstufen.
- Margaret (10/5): Lovely place, traditional breakfast, wonderful hosts, fantastic location. - The hosts are lovely. Very helpful. The location is perfect - close to everything but far enough off to be nice and quiet. The building is beautiful. I wish I didn’t have to knock to enter the building. I prefer to have a key to let myself in.
- Chetana (10/5): An excellent choice. - Dar El Bali sits right in the middle, just off the main street on Rue Talaa Sghira that leads from the Bab el Jaloud ( Blue Gate )to the Medina. So access is really easy and convenient. The hosts, Elodie, her parents Katherine and Michel have lovingly restored this exquisite bed and breakfast with each room having a theme, great attention to detail from furnishings to food. They made our stay special with their warm hospitality , gave us great advice on where to dine and shop. The breakfasts were varied and during our 4 day stay, an excellent spread with homemade yogurt, preserves, excellent mix of Moroccan meets European. I was lucky to get the ground floor room, the other rooms need strong legs😀 but no complaints from the rest of the group. Dar El Bali was just the place for our final farewell to a fabulous 14 day holiday in Morocco. There was nothing that we didn’t like
- Piotr (10/5): Lovely stay in Fes - Five star Riad. Very professional and friendly at the same time. Beautiful place with a great ambience. Probably the best shower in the entire Morocco. It is located out of the way but quite central in terms of Medina. Breakfast was lovely. Strongly recommend. I think the terrace which is great could do with some extra attention to make it a little bit more special. It would be a great place to chill out if staying for longer than a couple of nights. It is a suggestion rather than a criticism :)
- Chloe (8/5): Very good -
- Richard (9/5): Superb -
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional - Had a very pleasant, very friendly hosts and a beautiful place. Exceptionally clean and nice breakfast. Love to come back!
- Alexis (9/5): Superb -
- Vivian (9/5): Wonderful place in the old Medina of Fes - Beautiful restored riad. Quiet. Excellent location. Helpful hosts. Nothing.
- Mukund (10/5): A well maintained boutique accommodation - A lot of attention to detail has been put in by the managing staff to make the stay cosy. The narrow stairs to the the upper rooms can be a trial for a tall person
- Lauren (10/5): A wonderful and peaceful stay. - Beautiful place, and kind hosts!
- Hamad (10/5): Amazing awesome stay at Fes - The Moroccan decoration mix with African touches , homemade freshly breakfast would recommend to stay friendly staff amazing rooftop view
- Anna (9/5): Perfect riad to hide from the buzzing souk on the doorstep - We had a wonderful stay, felt very welcomed and enjoyed the ambience of the riad. The interior is divine, with the traditional tiling and thoughtful detail everywhere you look.
We were very pleased to get a breakfast box on the last day as our train to Marrakech was very early. It was a very nice touch and we enjoyed it on our journey. It is a small riad and a beautiful quiet place to relax from the buzzing medina, however I would have loved a chill area of sort outside of the room, perhaps a sofa corner. But again, riad was fairly small so perhaps there was no room for that. Our room however was very spacious.
- 645tessah (8/5): Lovely stay! - It was really great, nice rooms, warm welcome and help with booking our tour and cooking class.
At the last day we found out there were 2 terraces. It would have been nice to know this at the start of our stay. Maybe good to offer a little tour trough the hotel at the start of the stay?
- R. (8/5): Beatiful old Riad in the medina - The Riad is well located in the Medina and is very beautifully decorated. The rooms are nice and big. Its very clean and taken care of. Breakfast was big and good. If u book the groundfloor room, be aware that there are only windows to the public area. So not much fresh air and circulation. Also there is not much privacy cause it opens to the public area. I felt a bit exposed.
- Joshua (10/5): Would stay there again! - Great location and super clean rooms. The Dar is gorgeous. The internet situation was frustrating.
- Anonymous (10/5): an extraordinary Dar - Very clean, great location, we are taken great care like part of the family, such a beautiful house nothing
- Jane (10/5): highly recommend - beautiful architecture, furnishings and art .
had our privacy but hosts very helpful when we had questions loved it
- Andres (9/5): Lovely guest house with local flavour and warm hosts - The personalised attention, warm hosts and lovely traditional Moroccan food. The property is intricately decorated with local craftsmanship. Rooms were cosy with everything we needed. Elodie and her family welcomed us in the warmest possible way. The room didn’t have an outdoor window but aside from that there wasn’t much to dislike.
- Ritesh (9/5): Authentic Moroccan riad with a very friendly staff - Breakfast was very tasty and homemade by the hotel staff. Despite not having told them in advance it was still adjusted to my vegetarian preferences .
The staff was very friendly and helpful.
The rooms were properly cleaned upon arrival and were cleaned daily by housekeeping.
The venue had an authentic Moroccan vibe.
The venue is located in the middle of the Medina area. The WiFi connection which didn’t work properly on two of the four days we were there.
But besides the WiFi not working all the time there isn’t really anything negative to say about the hotel.
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - I loved the breakfast, the interior design of the rooms, the lovely hosts.
- Barbara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janique (9/5): A beautiful retreat - The Dar was beautifully decorated, comfortable and in a great location. Our room was was perfectly warm during the cooler temperatures, the bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious.
The hosts were kind, helpful and always smiling.
Breakfast was just what you needed to get your day started.
We loved our stay and would book again if we return to Fes.
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Oherbert2018 (10/5): Highly recommend, amazing place! - We had an incredible stay at Dar el Bali. The hotel is extremely well located in the haert of the Medina (the old town), and very accessible as it is located between the two main streets and near different entrances of the old town. Within the hotel itself it is super quiet and peaceful, with a lovely rooftop where we enjoyed drinks and beautiful sunsets.
We have never met hosts that were as nice, welcoming and interesting as Michel, Cathy and Elodie. They know how to manage a hotel and how to make people feel at home. It was so interesting (and fun) to talk with them about a.o. the local culture and their experience as europeans in Morocco. They perfectly know how to keep a good balance between exchanging with guests (when the latter wish so) and respecting their privacy. The visits and travels were perfectly organised by Dar el Bali, just like reservations for diner and/or drinks at other places in Fès. However, we would recommend everyone to enjoy a diner (or more) at the hotel itself, because the cooking skills of the chef and the atmosphere in the patio are great.
One of the stays that we have enjoyed the most during our many travels. Highly recommend the place.
- Peiying (4/5): Disappointing - 1. The AC was not working in our room
2. one of the hosts was arrogant
3. questioned us for if we stole the curtain strap and made us wait for over half an hour after checking out. the strap was right in front of her. no one apologized for this mistake
- Jeff (10/5): Fantastice place! A centrally located gem in the heart of the Fez medina. - We LOVED this riad! The attention to detail was very high and the riad itself is stunning! It is a beautiful and special place that is an exceptional value for your money. When I explained that we were gluten free, they made special GF pancakes and crepes for us to enjoy in lieu of bread. So thoughtful and delicious! The shower's water pressure was quite low and it seemed that the drain was slow, so water accumulated in the shower basin, but eventually cleared. But these are very minor issues that I am sure will be resolved quickly.
- Hugo (10/5): Beautiful gem in Fès - Great place, a truly beautiful family home. The location is perfect, in the heart of the Medina, and still very quiet. Do not miss the night view from the terrace.
- Kelsey (10/5): calm peaceful comfort - very stylish, great location for exploring the Medina and Elodie and team were the most helpful
- convoyhelm (10/5): Magical - Stepping into Dar el Bali was magical. Elodie and her family, Belgian expats, have done a marvelous job creating an oasis inside of the medina. The space is both traditionally Moroccan and contemporary, the bedrooms are comfortable, breakfasts are simple and delicious, and waking up to the canary's songs was special. The dar is well-situated and well-appointed. It is also well-priced for the quality of the stay you're sure to have.
- stevehF6489NS (10/5): Best place to discover the incredible Fès - You consider visiting Morocco...

All is perfect including the location which is really central in the Medina. All can be visited on foot from Dar El Bali.
Coming back to your room at the end of the visits and enjoying a great dinner in the patio is a great pleasure...
Rooms are perfectly cleaned, well decorated and quiet.
Breakfasts and dinners are handmade with amazing local ingredients
Do not hesitate anymore.
- ismailabdi1234 (10/5): Simply amazing - I cannot recommend this place enough ,the interior was stunning extremely traditional , clean , run by a team of family that catered to Almost all our needs , even the guests were friendly !!! I would definitely stay there again and my friends and family love it
- bkccoastalca (10/5): Beautiful Dar - Beautiful dar convenient location. They were polite and professional. Beautiful dar with wonderful decor of mixed antique and modern...very sophisticated yet very comfortable. Good breakfasts. Helpful with travel suggestions I asked about. Go with their taxi services (extra) to and from airport and perhaps any touring to other towns...the drivers through their contacts were all professional and friendly...and honest. There is no pressure from them so ask if you do not know anything. Large bedroom and bath all rooms with beautiful architectural details. They also have a petite terrace that is open weather permitting with wonderful views.
- lucielucie2222 (10/5): Incredible Morrocon Riad - We had a fantastic time at Dar el Bali, from the minute we walked in (which was a very late check in) Elody and her family made us feel welcome and looked after! The room was so beautiful with little extra touches like tea, biscuits, shampoo, towels and extra blankets. Powerful and hot shower! We stayed for New Year and spent the night in the Riad with 4 other guests... Elody cooked the most amazing 3 course meal which was delicious with traditional main course.Thank you!
- neshiikinz (8/5): Excellent Riad to stay in Fes - Fantastic location in the heart of the Medina in Fes. It was a bit difficult to get to - we had our driver walk us to the Riad and thank goodness we did! The Riad is within the outside alleys of the Medina, which may appear a bit sketchy/unsafe but we had no problems! The Riad itself is run by a very sweet family. Some rooms appeared better than others and were dependent on personal preference. We stayed in a room upstairs and loved it- had good view of the riad breakfast/lounge area. Toilet was separate in our room from shower which was convenient for getting ready. Bed was comfortable. There is a bird and a cat that live in the Riad which may not be for every guest but we loved having animals there! Breakfast was fresh and very good. We would recommend this Riad.
- Amanda (8/5): Nice Dar / B&B in the centre of the medina - A great little find down a tiny alley in the medina. We were pleasantly surprised as the door open and we were welcomed by the staff to follow them to indoor courtyard for refreshing mint tea.
Tastefully decorated with plenty of original features and our room led off the courtyard (be warned doors have low decorative details and both me & my husband banged our heads!).
Lovely hotel to start our 2 week trip in Morocco
