Guest Reviews
- Nic (6/5): - Shower needs updating and improve mattress
- James (8/5): - Pleased with this motel only problem was failure to cater for 3rd person even though booking was made for 3
- Robert (8/5): - .
- Mollie Vincent (8/5): - The room was clean and comfortable. Trains were noisy. Good budget accommodation
- stephenmY4541QE (2/5): Allergic reactions. Bad smells. Sleeplessness. And lots of noise. - Smells of mould and dust. Noisy. The shutters are not an effective noise barrier against the trains. Horrible experience. Cannot recommend.
- Peter (10/5): - Good
- Mindy (10/5): - Awesome place
- Julie (10/5): - The property was very clean and there was a safe place to park my car.
Bathroom was a little small but overall excellent value for money.
- Tegan (10/5): - Lovely place stay i will stay there again
- William (10/5): - Unique
- Camilla (4/5): - Basic ,
- Mark (6/5): - A quiet secure property with secure parking.
Very good family reception in a traditional Aussie hotel. It had not been overly modernised and maintained a historic homage to the original service that an establishment of this type would provide in times past.
- Michaela (4/5): - The Pampas Hotel Port Augusta is a complete disgrace and a far cry from its "4-star" claim – a clear breach of trading standards. My room was unsanitary: mold in the shower tiles, terrible bathroom grouting, and a broken toilet seat with faeces marks were utterly repulsive.
Beyond the grim hygiene, the room had broken drawers and an exposed ceiling vent. Peace was impossible due to unsupervised children and constant noise from staff accessing storage rooms. The shared kitchen facilities led to relentless door slamming, completely negating any privacy in my supposedly private room.
While the bed was comfortable, this hotel is unfit for purpose. I'm reporting them to consumer ombudsman and environmental health. Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere.
- Don (10/5): - Old style hotel rooms. Staff and other guests very friendly
- Michael (2/5): - This hotel is closed down
- Michael (2/5): - This property is closed down
- Megan (2/5): - This motel is CLOSED very annoyed as I rang a few days to confirm and they didn’t say anything and we turned up and it had definitely not been operating for a while!! Needs to be taken off this site!! They had organised other accommodation for us but not the point we weren’t the only patrons turning up shocked to find it closed up!!! They should of contacted us!
- Tushugars (10/5): Motel Pampas in Port Augusta. I should have stayed a day longer but "duty called"... - I have stayed in many places in Port Augusta. Until this trip, I had never heard of Motel Pampas. I did a loop on the highway, spotted their sign, and thought, "Why not?"
I am so glad I did. I followed the signs - walked in - and met a nice young fellow who was most courteous.
Through an electric security gate, I entered a nice, open-walled but covered area and into a rather eclectic room. The new units were built on the land area, which likely explains my room's odd-shaped bathroom.
We all know the trains rumble through Port Augusta and pass close behind the Motel Pampas, but it's not a problem. The motel rooms are amazingly quiet because they have wind-down shutters, and the room's comfort is great. Quiet, great bed, nice sheets and decent pillows. Table and a bench to charge all my "stuff"...
The hot water is a bit slow, but a sign states that... In its heyday, the original building was obviously a substantial property. It is nice to see old buildings that are well-cared for.
The Motel Pampas is still quant and, as I mentioned, mildly eclectic, if not eccentric. I like the place, and it was a good sensible price... I will return to Motel Pampas.
- David (10/5): - Very nice property and room.
- Maxine (6/5): - The bed was comfy, however we did not have a microwave in our room.
The rooms are not very soundproof either, I expected the train noise, but the noisy people in the room next door were awful.
- Samantha (8/5): - A good, simple stay at Pampas motel. Furniture in room was very nice and shared bathrooms were very clean. Kitchen lacked a fridge and stove (although reception told us that most rooms have fridges). There was a cracked window pane in the room which let a bit of a draught in but it wasn’t too cold at night. Overall a good spot for a short stay.
- Ralph (8/5): - Large rooms with original features - 12ft ceilings.
- Allan (6/5): - Everything was good the only problem was the trains in the middle of the night so loud .
- Cheryl (10/5): - I got there late as I had been driving all day I didn’t see the town etc that day, but have been through Port Augusta many times. I found the property to be delightful.
- Vicki (8/5): - Very neat and tidy bathroom was great water pressure was fantastic
- Sunshine65597358407 (2/5): mouse and few Cockroachs in the room - We had super bad experience in this motel. We was living at room number 7 and the room has 3 mouse and few Cockroachs so we couldn't sleep well for whole night. We spoke to the boss and staff, they said they will refund money to us but we didn't get any money refund until now(one month more already) I had called them asking about it, they said you need to wait. I think they don't want to refund money to us so they just make excuse🤬 The photo was showing we used towel trying to stop mouse coming to room🤮
- Binsu (8/5): - A good motel :)
- Dan9165 (4/5): Very dirty, dilapidated and noisy - Very dirty, dilapidated and outdated. The room was so bad that we were moved to another room. Instead of apologising, the staff just gave excuses and argued. The room we were moved to was not much better and had sounds of the freight trains all night. I would stay very far from this hotel.
Banisters, tiles, plastering ect. broken
- Tegan (8/5): - Most of the motel has alot of great character. Lovely and friendly staff. The price you pay is low but value for money is good especially with air con.
- David (8/5): - Convenient place to stay in Port Augusta
- Kevin (4/5): - Staff off handed. Trains passing at all hours of the night, beds need upgrading.
- armrestdominance (10/5): A solid choice in Port Augusta - Only spent one night here on the way to the Flinders Ranges. The building is lovely and historic, and our room was huge. The bed was comfortable and we had a nice sunset view out the window. Walking distance to a nice park and a few fast food restaurants. The centre of town is a short drive away.
The woman at reception was friendly and helpful. Off street secure parking was available and wifi was good throughout the building.
- Andrew (6/5): - Positives: Good wifi, large room, price. Slept well in the bed.
Negatives: The "kitchen" lacked a fridge (freezer only for some reason), no cutlery (bring your own). Does have a microwave and toaster though. Unstaffed at published check-in time, so had to phone and wait ten minutes, apparently 2pm is no longer correct. Bathrooms are huge rooms but then have about the smallest actual shower cubicle I've encountered. With a strange lump under a rug, I finally got curious enough to lift it up to find a bit of rubbish was literally "swept under the rug" at some point.
Interesting: It was a lovely old pub, I'd once considered buying something similar to turn into accommodation so was keen to check it out. Strangely, it felt half renovated, with classy furniture in places but then like they'd run out of funds and have things like bedside lamps on a nice table but without any power to actually enable them to work. I'd imagine that the more standard motel rooms downstairs are what earn the more positive reviews as the upstairs guest rooms have so much potential. I wanted to like it, but should have just paid a bit more to stay somewhere far better.
- Zoe (4/5): - first room we got was unserviced and staff member didn't believe me so had to look for themselves. next room was better but so noisy with traffic and trains and one of the beds kept on moving throughout the night everytime they moved
- Giuseppina (8/5): - Comfortable for what we needed for the night
- Renae (10/5): - Great beds, nice and quiet, basic shared kitchen
- Helen (6/5): - Adequate and clean.
- Minnie (10/5): - It was great
- Sonia (8/5): - Friendly and very helpful. Good budget accommodation.
- Meagan (8/5): - Clean, large bedroom.
Very steep short steps to upstairs.
Shower cubicle with curtain very small.
Car very safe locked behind a gate.
- Adrian (8/5): - Lovely quiet and safe place to stay with excellent staff
- Gillian (8/5): - Great for our one night stop. Beautiful old building
- samuel (10/5): - Very comfortable bed.. everything was easy
- Barb (10/5): - This is always the accomodation that we choose when we are going to Port Augusta. We’ll be back.
- Sarah (10/5): - Excellent short stay property. Easy check in & out process, management very helpful. Spacious, clean room. Thanks for a great stay
- NicDunc (8/5): Neat and tidy - Recently stayed for 1 night while travelling through. Don't let the rough looking building on the outside or the fact you need to call a number for someone to come and check you in put you off. The owner is friendly and extremely helpful. The inside of the building is renovated. We booked a motel room which is out the back, not in the main building. Room was clean and spacious. The little court yard was perfect to enjoy takeaway dinner in. Would stay here again if ever travelling through or visiting.
- Dale (10/5): - The room was large and clean. No other amenities. Not very close to many things. Train runs behind the property until 10pm and blows its horn for a level crossing. If you're just looking for a place to sleep, the motel was good.
- Grant (10/5): - Great place to stay in Port Augusta.
- Paul (10/5): Clean and Functional - The room was clean and very functional. It comes with secure parking. Highly recommended.
- AmberMerrifield13 (10/5): Pampas motel and guest house - The owner is so friendly and very welcoming! Has secure car parking. Rooms and facilities are really clean and the beds are so comfy has a nice homely feel to it! Could not of asked for a better host, 100% would definitely recommend !
- Peter (10/5): We love the Pampas. - We have stayed here many times in the past 18 years. The cleanliness is to perfection, as is the friendly service. A shout out to Frank.
It has had new owners in the last 12 months and I can report it is still as good as ever. They are doing some improvements. So it should be even better.
- Joss (8/5): - Great stay friendly service
- K26012020 (10/5): Standard Queen room - We stayed for only one night but we were so happy to stay here. Quiet during night on public holiday even just next to the train line. It could be depending on the day?
Very clean room and linen. Painting and artificial flowers made us relaxed. Spacious room and bathroom. Car can be parked in front of the room in secured place. Would book here next trip again.
- JP (10/5): - Staff were friendly and helpful .
- Karl (8/5): - There was nothing i did not like.it was very very clean in the room and the whole old building,
- 796suziem (10/5): Suzie - The manager of this hotel went over and beyond to help us. We booked late and arrived late and he fitted our 2 campers behind locked gates in a small area. Nothing was too much for him. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and in walking distance to an excellent hotel up the road and laundromat just across the road. We will be staying here again. Highly recommend.
- John (8/5): n old hotel nicely renovated. - An overnight stop on the way from Adelaide to Port Lincoln this place was convenient. When we got there it was closed with a notice on the door to ring a mobile number that we missed so we came back an hour later.
- Wendy (10/5): - We like that it will be a family concern when it's done up sure it will be a delightful place to stay and eat loved the very obliging staff in this difficult time getting through cob is
- PaulL148 (10/5): Great place - This place changed hands just a couple of days after I stayed in October 2019 but the lady that checked me in was lovely and the whole ambience of the joint was brilliant. Make sure you read the descriptions of the rooms and amenities to make sure you know what you are getting but the place has a lovely vibe and the rooms really took me back. Older travellers will love it especially. The parking is off-street and secure which is a bonus and it's out of the very centre of town. If you've a larger vehicle you won't have trouble getting a park on the street outside and overall my stay was worth every penny.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great local business, friendly atmosphere and management went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable.
- Stephen (8/5): - The Greeting on arrival and local area directions were great after a long days driving. The room was great .
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly check in and staff throughout my stay.
Welcoming
- jillian (10/5): What a gem - If you want a safe place to park your car in Port Augusta come to the Pampas. Enjoy the spacious renovated old hotel with great hospitality.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Generally clean but a lot of noise from surrounds and old floors and doors
- Mandeep (8/5): Excellent - It was terrific :) enjoyed our stay :)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Spacious, facilities, security, breakfast and close proximity to shops
Would definitely recommend staying here
- juanaarriva (8/5): Fabulous pit stop on Nullabor crossings - This dear old motel was there at the end of a 12 hour drive with clean sheets and cold water. It’s a very old building with motel accommodation attached. We stayed in the hotel part - 8 rooms upstairs. The rooms have fans and air conditioning and a little fridge. The bathrooms and toilets are shared and very clean. There’s also a shared kitchen for tea/coffee or to heat something in the microwave.
As with all small hotels and motels in Australia, I urge you to book with them direct, over the phone. Booking agents online raise the price for you and take a massive commission that doesn’t go to the owners and their community.
- Jen (8/5): - The room was good. The experiences could be enhanced with Wi-Fi and by being able to cook in the kitchen.
- Siwel (10/5): - The Pampas Motel has a long history that goes back to the cart and horse days. It is an interesting place with all the modern comforts that the average traveller requires. I met the former owners and the current owners and they were very friendly people.
- Siwel (10/5): - It has history and it is an icon in the area. The owners/managers were friendly and very helpful with advice relating to the area, making our trip more enjoyable.
- rebmcc1 (10/5): Such a gem - We loved staying here. Our room was a ‘budget’ room but it was anything but. Lovely bed, high ceilings, tv, aircon/fan, your own fridge and sink. The shared bathroom and kitchen were extremely clean. We sat outside and used the bbq for dinner and it was great. Such incredible value for money. Wishing the current owner all the best with her move to Adelaide.
- Madeleine (8/5): - The owner was very friendly and provided a lovely little basket of goodies for breakfast. Good nights sleep
- Isitsohard (6/5): Rude staff! - Upon arrival to Pampas the women on the desk was the most rude person I’ve ever encounted and I work in hotels and resort, she very rudely told us to go back and close the door, even know we were unaware that the horrible noise was made from the door, and then the wind pushed open a box on the wall and she very rudely said close that. Even know it opened on its own, she was over all very rude and unfriendly. Tried to tell me I made a mistake even know I didn’t we had called a month in advance to call and bring the day forward by one night and she made out like it was a big issue. Honestly she was so horrible and rude.
- stuartbR8038UU (10/5): Brilliant Hospitality and your every need thought of. - Michelle is the most wonderful host. This is a true gem in the travellers list of memorable places. Your every need is thought of. Secure gated carparking, even a powerpoint to run your car fridge overnight if you need it. The rooms, although a blast from the 70s are extremely comfortable. Air conditioned, the beds are dreamy and everything is provided for a genuine continental breakfast which Michelle delivers to your room on arrival. Value for money, cleanliness and genuine country hospitality make thos place so highly rated, not just Trip Advisor but in your memories after you leave.
- 725angelai (10/5): An excellent stop-over - A historic hotel, built in 1882.
Although only 1 night, the room provided had everything we needed, including a spacious luggage rack and excellent food preparation area, comfortable bed. Secure parking was provided. Previously run by Mayor Joy Baluch, Australia's longest serving mayor.
Dinner not available there, but at a sister hotel a short block away had very generous meals.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely staff. A bit noisy being on a main road and with railway lines behind it but overall a comfortable place to stay close to the hospital
- Verified traveler (10/5): - An old building that has been given much love and care. We had a very comfortable nights sleep. The room could not be faulted for it's cleanliness. A very friendly greeting and an excellent suggestion as to where we could have dinner. I would definitely come back.
- simonn167 (10/5): Pleasant Suprise - Spent a couple of nights here and couldn’t be happier. I was a little concerned about some of the reviews, but my experience was lovely. I paid a little extra for a larger room with bathroom, well worth it. Best value for money in town. Got to park right in front of my room, which has a convenient outdoor and bbq area. As for the trains, you would have to have very sensitive hearing, I hardly heard them. Center of Town was about a twenty minute walk away. The management was amazingly helpful and friendly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - small and friendly. only downside was freight trains during the night
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Value for money, close to everything, unfortunately to close to main street .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - very freindly staff nice rooms , very clean and secure
- rhenf (8/5): Charming, would stay again. - We stayed in this charming motel in Port Augusta, the rooms are beautiful and clean. It's a quite motel with a clean communal kitchen and a shared bathroom. It's close to local resturants and petrol stations and the staff are lovely people. The motel beds are very comfortable and the rooms are spacious.
- Charlotteelizabeth56 (10/5): Absolutely excellent - Me and my friend stayed here for one night from adelaide on route to Perth via the coast. we stayed in the budget double room and it was HUGE, beds were super comfortable and the sheets were beautiful.. Plenty of pillows and aircon/heating as standard. Nice sized modern TV, fridge and sink in the room bathrooms at the end of the hall were very clean... The building itself is beautiful with a real antique feeling with beautiful paintings everywhere. Michelle the owner works extremely hard and runs the place single handedly with help from her lovely partner and beautifully tempered staffy... They made us feel incredibly welcome and even had a few drinks with us in the evening sharing their knowledge and "must sees" in australia! If we could give them more than five stars we would! Excellent stay and hospitality. If you're staying in port Augusta you must stay here!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A fantastic place and fantastic staff, a lovely complimentary breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great little motel. Lovely staff to assist you. Bed is very comfy
- DaphneM53 (8/5): Good breakfast - We stayed there for one night based on the good reviews. The building is old but it’s clean inside. We were very pleasantly surprised by the good breakfast that came with the room complete with 4 slices of fresh bread, a selection of jams, peanut butter, vegemite, and butter; cornflakes, sultana bran and two boxes of UHT milk. Great value for money if you’re visiting Port Augusta!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed in the motel section which was very clean, the bed was comfortable, a big screen television, and the breakfast was excellent (included in the tariff) with plenty to eat.
There was a security gate which made the premises safe.
Overall a good experience.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Secure parking was a bonus.
Excellent facilities
Great eating places nearby
- SR (10/5): - Its a wonderful place to stay.
The rooms in the main hotel with shared facilities were wonderful large airy everything was very comfortable and clean.
Michelle showed me the self contained units with private facilities for just $20 extra .
They were large spacious with big screen tv.
There was secure gated parking for guest.
This is a wonderful place to stay in Port Augusta.
- Hans (8/5): Better with WiFi. It's missing - Lovely place, just needs WiFi.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Shirl is a great hostess. Will stay again. Gerry from Darwin
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I loved the way the owners have kept it almost original. It has a good ambience is inviting. Cleanliness is exemplary. Based on its original features I will book and stay there again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice older hotel, charming, high ceilings. Easy location.
- 270maryjanew (8/5): Weary Travellers welcomed warmly - Having driven from Melbourne in a day it was a delight to arrive to a friendly reception and a clean room. Lovely warm shower, generous towels and a comfortable bed. Also, the price was right! Would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel is a pleasure to stay at. Service is excellent, rooms are comfortable & the rates are the best in town.
- Bruce (10/5): Quiet little gem away from any hustle - Stayed for a night in January 2019. Excellent accommodation and service together with included breakfast. I presume this is an old renovated pub but no longer being used as a pub. Located 25-30 minutes walk from town but close to a working pub which had great meals
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A nice place to stop for the night when on the road. Has secure off-street parking for guests too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This place was great. For the price, spectacular.
I had very low expectations - I just needed somewhere to crash for 8 hours, booked the cheapest room in about the cheapest motel I could find.
It is an old converted pub, nice from the outside if you care about such things. Secure parking (not a bad idea in Port Augusta).
The "budget room" had shared bathroom and toilet, but a basin in the room. The room itself was huge - big double bed and a single. Table and chair, Fridge, TV, aircon. Very tasteful. Big, fluffy towels like you find in a 5 star hotel. Really very nice room. Far exceeded my expectations. The cheapest but nicest of a half dozen country hotels I stayed at on my trip. Highly recommended.
- KG (10/5): - Nice staff. Very kind. Secure facility for the car.
- spikeymikeys (8/5): Comfortably Friendly - We stayed here just the one night on our way thru, but if heading thru Port Augusta again I'll definitely be staying here again. Its a small cozy motel tucked away from the main st, but close to everything. Rooms were decent size, neatly presented with all facilities. A light breakfast was also provided. It is close to the railway but i personality didnt notice. Highly recommended.
