Guest Reviews
- Sian (10/5): - Such a beautiful place. Like stepping into Sienese history. Amazing breakfasts on the balcony overlooking S Giuseppe and the hills beyond. Caterina provided dairy free alternatives and a kettle so we could make tea any time. Everyone was really helpful. The original Etruscan house has was added to in the 15 and 17 centuries. Wander around to find the old kitchen, patterned marble floors, painted ceilings, and terraced garden. Lots of nooks and crannies and places to curl up with a book or sketch pad. It’s quirky, creaky and crumbling and all the more lovable for it.
- Barbara (10/5): - Nice old building in good repair, nicely decorated rooms
- Claudia (8/5): - great location and the place is full of character, very special. The room was clean comfortable and quiet. Only bad things: no AC (which is not good during the summer, and you can’t open the window because there is no mosquito screen and mosquitoes will get in) and our bathroom was very small and uncomfortable, it felt like a toy bathroom, awkward and would get water everywhere. Beautiful ceiling. Overall good.
- Giorgia (10/5): Stupendo - Caterina davvero gentile e disponibile. Un palazzo storico a dir poco strepitoso all’interno del centro storico.
Grazie dell’accoglienza
- Izabel (8/5): - The room was very charming and the b&b is in a great location, just a few minute walk from piazza di campo. The staff was very helpful. The only complaints is that is was very cold is the room at all times and my friend had dirt on her bedsheets.
Bon rapport qualite prix
- Jane (8/5): GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY - As a person with bad knees, walking to the hotel and then up the stairs was not easy, but we did love the room and view and were allowed to leave from a different exit that was much easier.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent value for money at least on the October dates when I stayed, good location, clean and spacious room. Noise from the street is clearly audible in the room, if unlucky (happened to me one night out of five), but I guess that affects most places in the centre of Siena.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - great location and views, very helpful and friendly staff
- Margaret (4/5): Run down and no net - Very run down place with lots of stairs to lug your bags up. Internet does not work. When asked, staff literally said "I just work here". Would not recommend.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We liked the atmosphere and the building.
We did not like the breakfast. It was vert simole.
- Gustavo (10/5): Great Option - Unbeatable location in quiet side street. Full of character and charm. Large comfortable clean room with amazing views. Charming staff. Only issue is breakfast which is brought to room with limited choice and variable quality. Contact I advance for parking instructions
- Daniel (10/5): - It's so historic that you feel like living in medieval times. So convenient to everything in the town for walking aboud.
- Maria (10/5): - Struttura accogliente e personale disponibile
- Deborah (10/5): - Beautiful hotel with knowledge and helpful staff. Breakfast delivered to your room was warm and plentiful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Ottima posizione! Personale gentile, buona colazione!
- Angela (8/5): Great location in ancient building - This is a b&b in a 15th century building. The location is great but is quite an uphill hike if you don’t get a cab( I didn’t) so I wouldn’t recommend it for people with mobility issues. The room was adequate, had the basics. Breakfast is brought to you.
- Yesika (8/5): Siena Great Location - Good location and condition, nice service, funny to get the breakfast in the very old patio. a Little bit impractical to get into the 3rd floor without elevator. But they have and access entry available during the day. Not AC but was very confortable for the end on august 2018.
- SYLVAIN (4/5): Disappointing - Nice staff
Old bathroom and bed that need to be renovated / changed
Breakfast was not good.
Muitas escadas. Localização boa.
Banheiro muito ruim e velho. Quartos sem ar condicionado.
- Amanda (8/5): - Beautiful hotel in a great location, with a lovely garden. Plenty of space and a wonderful old world feel. Bathroom was a little awkward and Internet connection was spotty. But, I would stay here again. Perfect for being close to the Campo.
- heather (10/5): Old style hotel with character - I loved the place. The staff were welcoming, efficient and helpful. The location of the hotel was central but quiet. The building was gorgeous. It was very old and had so much character and history. The single room was large, a comfortable double bed and a lovely view. There were lounge areas with tea making facilities, a library and lovely gardens to sit in. Breakfast was brought to the room each morning and I was given my breakfast the night before I left because I had an early departure. I look forward to staying there again and highly recommend the place.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Has location in its favour - This hotel was chosen by us as one with character rather than modern. It is very close to the square, up a very steep hill but it is tired, worn and basic. The staff were lovely, the breakfast not so! The ensuite bathroom smelt very musty but we had a suite so we used the other one. The furnishings are basic, unloved and not so fresh. The bed sheets and towels were ok though. The rooms shown on the pictures on the website must be well hidden because all that we saw were not plush or picturesque.
For us we used it as a base, to sleep and shower and that was ok. Wouldn’t really want to spend any time there unless the weather was good and you could sit outside in the garden. To sum up, basic, close to the centre and ok for a weekend if you are no y too fussy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Beautiful and quirky - Room excellent staff fantastic and breakfast delivered tom your door, if you like an individual and traditional hotel with a medieval feel you will love this place, only reason for losing a star no wi-fi as advertised.
- Gina (6/5): Decent hotel in Siena - My daughter and I stayed one night. It was easy walking to the attractions. Wear good walking shoes, Siena is all hills and steps. Be prepared to walk up steps with luggage, there is no elevator at the hotel. Room was a suite with living room, kitchen area, bedroom and small bathroom. Shower is square and tight - not recommended for big person (more than 200 lbs or so). Front desk were lovely attendants and very helpful. They bring breakfast to your room, breakfast food okay - I would skip it next time. Because it rained we couldn't enjoy the outside terrace that looked lovely. My impression is Siena is beautiful in the summer with all it's outside beauty and activities. Early November is not really ideal for this location.
- Mary P. (8/5): Nice Location - It was a lovely place!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quiet, clean and comfortable. Exactly what we wanted in Siena.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very good - Quirky and wonderful residence in good location to explore the city. Friendly service (during day only). Pretty and peaceful terraces - ideal location to enjoy breakfast or just chill. Wifi free if a little patchy in room.
- Marilyn (10/5): Unique historic hotel - First time in Siena and our hotel was perfect. We could walk to everything.
Our room was comfy, clean and we had a wonderful terrace to eat our nice breakfast out on. It had a wonderful view also. We would definitely recommend this hotel to other travelers!
- Rashida (6/5): Location excellent but.......... - the hotel was in an amazing location but not happy with the cleanliness and lack of facilities in the room. we were 2 and got one towel between us for the shower!!!! the shower....was so small we had to wedge in side ways....
the main disappointment was the breakfast being a tray in our room, with packet croissants !!!!! the room was dirty also. sorry to be so negative but we have travelled most of Italy and this has been the first let down.
I would give it 10 \ 10 for location.
- chris (8/5): Historic jewel near everything. - Great place except for the bed. Wonderful staff. Lots of stairs from lower street level. Be in shape or use the 3rd floor entrance.
- Fleur (8/5): Beautiful hotel but a few bumps along the way - We really enjoyed this hotel but there were a few bumps along the way. The hotel itself is beautiful and quaint and charming. Our room opened up to a beautiful large shared balcony with beautiful views and seating.
A few days before our arrival, we received an email from the hotel stating that they wanted us to check in instead at their sister hotel on the other side of town. We picked this hotel based on location and look and the sister hotel didn't meet what we wanted. We responded back to the hotel and they did revert back to the original reservation quickly and with no issues. Luckily we had wifi from time to time though to know that our reservation had even changed.
When we checked in we were advised that breakfast was served in the rooms. We selected the earliest breakfast time and stated that we had a very early checkout so that we could catch a train. The next morning no breakfast arrived although we did see another couple out on the balcony eating the breakfast and it did look delicious! As well, there was no one to be found working at the hotel that morning to follow up with, to check us out, or to call a cab for us. It is a bit of a remote area so finding a cab was a great challenge.
All that being said, the location, view and charm of the hotel was really terrific.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel in a very good location - The room was nice and clean. The only problem was that the bed was not comfortable.
- Robert (6/5): Nice hotel but needs attention. - Room nice. Bathroom too narrow, barely 3' wide. Gardens raked but generally shanby
- Amy (6/5): Unique hotel in a historical building - It was a very unique experience staying in such an ancient building. It fits the entire atmosphere that we found from this medieval town.
- sandra (2/5): Horrible!!!!!! - Where to begin??? No elevator, no a/c, no staff help, mildew on walls and shower, 59 large steps to the room, plants growing through shutters into room, wood bed frame with camp mattress, flea market furniture spray painted flat white, old discolored mirror, staff gave us keys and left. We couldn't wait to get out of this place. Only saving grace was a nice continental breakfast brought to your room. Unable to believe that anyone could give this 4 stars?????? I would give it a minus 10!!!!
- Raj (10/5): Great location. Excellent hotel - Great location and excellent place to stay. We had an excellent time at the hotel. Things were organized and setup perfectly almost to an ocd level.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice view but could be better on cleanliness - Nice historic place but a nightmare with parking outside the walls and also the bathroom was not as clean as it could be
- Jaclyn (8/5): Great location in Siena centre - This is a great central B&B for those who want to explore Siena city by foot. It's a 5min walk from the Piazza del Campo and the Duomo. The B&B is a little dated and the wifi is only strong enough to check your emails, but the staff are lovely and helpful and it's very quiet. For a single traveller, my room was a great size. It's a bit far to walk from the train station, but the no.3 bus stops just down the road at Porta Tufi.
- Linda (10/5): Breakfast in bed! - Very cute rooms (mural on the ceiling) and cozy sitting areas like in an old home with several floors. Had a back entrance on street level for those on the top floors. Breakfast more than expected -- croissant, roll, apple, yogurt, tea, juice and cookies.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff was very helpful. Anastasia willingly helped us make local calls to confirm reservations for a hot air balloon ride, and later for made restaurant reservations for us. She left for the night before we returned, but kindly left a note confirming she was successful in getting the reservation.
We recognize that a very old, damp building provides challenges, especially with mold, but it appeared that more could be done with simple maintenance to make the facilities look better and shine as special and unique. For instance there were rips in the seams of the bedspread that could have been easily sewn. Extra attention to small details can make all the difference so as to make this a special place to stay.
We really enjoyed the neighborhood, the nearby university grounds and the views from there. We also enjoyed the university botanical gardens.
We took a taxi from the train station since we were unfamiliar with the city and didn't want to go up and down hills with the carry-on roller bags, which cost 17 euro, but we realized that it was easy to catch a bus outside the nearby city gate to return to the station.
The highlights of our stay in Siena were walking the non-touristy parts of the city, the views of the Tuscan countryside, and the hot air balloon ride with Balloon Team Italia. The view of the countryside over the rooftops from the hotel window was amazing, especially in the early morning light.
- Carmel (8/5): Adorable, unique place in a great location. - This place is so fantastic. It winds up through so many nooks and crannies so make sure you explore the whole place. The garden is really cool as well and it is so close to the main square. We were greeted by the most wonderful, friendly woman who told us heaps about Siena and gave fantastic advice. Our room was great. Our bathroom was teeny but quite hilarious and adorable and in a place that old we didn't mind.
- Kim (10/5): Beautiful courtyard location, great panoramic view - Beautifully located in a historic convent in the old town of Pienza - "secret" courtyard location. Rooms historic and spacious.
- Peter (8/5): Inside Siena's walls - great location inside walls of Siena...the residence is a very medieval stone structure.... our room had a nice terrace and was quite roomy....wifi did not work in the room because of the thick walls, so had to use it in the public areas and the terrace.,,,, staff work hard and breakfast is delivered to your room.. good spot
- Peter (8/5): Tuscany delight - Wonderful time in this location in the old city. Close to all the major attractions .. Building is very old somewhat dark with lots of stairs. Problematic for people with mobility issues... Staff there early and in late afternoon. ... Overall a decent B&B in old Siena
- Verified traveler (6/5): Plenty of character & near the Campo - The hotel is very quaint and Albana the receptionist is very helpful with a sunshine personality... Great! The little garden is lovely to sit in to cool off in the evening & so near the Campo and old streets that it was a real joy.
Only thing is some maintenance issues in the bathroom... Loo seat screws causing sliding loo seat! Basin took a long time to drain.
Had a wonderful time in a beautiful place!
- Andrea (6/5): Nice location, charming place...need a bit of worK - Nice location, charming place...need a bit of work.
Old building therefore lack of elevator....but awesome location!!!
- Joel (8/5): - I arrived on Sunday afternoon just before check in was over. It's quite a trip if you are coming in from the train station. Take a bus into the city center (Piazza Gramschi). And walk from there to the end of Giovanni Duprè (otherwise you'll be going up a steep hill -that's what Siena is known for). Breakfast was ok (the fruit could had been slightly fresher). The ladies at the front desk are friendly and helpful when it came to helping me get around. Like many old building in town. There's no AC. Wifi is very slow and work sporadically in the common areas.
- a couple (4/5): Don't waste your money - Shower is literally microscopic,no air conditioning
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location and the hotel gave a true sense of feeling the city's history. We loved it
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice stay ! - My boyfriend and I stay there for 2 nights. We had book, without knowing, the suite for 4. The room with 2 singles beds (yellow quilt - for picture reference) and 1 double bed (blue quilt). If you are 2, it's ok. We try the singles bed for fun …. just sitting on them we felt the curves. Seems not comfortable. We slept in the double bed (real one, not 2 singles), it's ok. don't expect the ultimate comfort. The breakfast was served on our private terrace, which is really nice! Good coffee and breakfast was good too. The room was not clean during our stay, but we don't really care if the bed is done or not … It,s located near the Tuffi Door, which is complete south of the city. If you arrive by train, you will have to cross all the small town. We had a car, if was possible to enter the restricted area to drop off the luggages. There is a not that expensive parking 10 minutes walk outside of the Tuffi door. Sincerely, very nice place to go ! The decorations are amazing ! The is only stairs … but the personal bring our heavy luggages in our room. I recommend totally this place !!!
- Carolyn (6/5): Sad! - The location was excellent and the rooms were very clean. But they are not keeping up with the maintenance. The shower door just about fell off, drape had missing or broken tie backs. One light didn't work and one of the rooms had unrepaired water damage on the ceiling that was covered with mold. Lastly the mattresses were really awful. Time for an upgrade! Its sad to see such an interesting place being so badly neglected!!
- blaise (6/5): Handy location, frescoed ceiling - Access is from two streets near il campo, so convenient and quiet.nearby parking expensive so used main car park outside walls.fabulous fresco on our ceiling. Dont stay if you want mod con or decent breakfast. Fairly basic place but truly historic. Reasonable value
- Jeff (8/5): Amazing location just 10min walk to Campo - The highlight of our trip was staying at Residenza d'Epoca il Casato. We felt like we were locals and only minutes walk to the main Campo Square of Siena. The historic building is from the 1300's and has so much character. The rooms are located on the 2nd and 3rd level up from the reception...they are all different. Ours was No.7 with 3 beds and had a door out onto a terrace where we had our breakfast and enjoyed wine in the evening. It has steps down into a secluded garden patio with fountain that all guest can enjoy. There are a lot of stairs to climb as we were on 2nd level, but it was worth it. The breakfast is brought to your room in the morning at the time you prefer but the earliest is 7:30am. It is your choice of coffee, tea or hot chocolate, croissants, jam, crackers, sometimes a fruit, and yogurt. The room was cool as the ancient walls are thick. Bathroom was a good size but the shower door is rather narrow. There is no air conditioning, but you can ask for a fan although we did not need it in late May. The reception staff ladies were friendly and helpful. Reception is there only certain hours and you get a key to the main entrance as well as your room. If you are arriving after 7pm make prior arrangements with the hotel. The view from the terrace and courtyard is magical. A unique place.
- Anonymous (8/5): Park outside Porta Tufi for free. - Park outside Porta Tufi for free. Then walk up hill to hotel. Il Campo parking is a little further up the hill but expensive. Basic breakfast consisting of orange juice. coffee, croissant and yogurt.
- Anonymous (6/5): The room looks nice, and the location - The room looks nice, and the location is great. However, there were ants in my room, and other bugs in the bathroom. The shower cabin didn't wasn't very nice. Also the reception was only open in the day - I almost didn't get into my room because I arrived late. The breakfast consisted of coffe, juice and something made of sugar, but I guess that's the standard.
- Anonymous (8/5): Quite nice, *EXCEPT* - Quite lovely hotel with *DISGUSTING* shower. Everything else in the room looked great, even charming, but it looked like the mildew in the shower had been accumulating for some time.
Uphill location might not make all travelers happy, especially walking from bus drop-off (~15-20 minutes from station).
