Guest Reviews
- Chris (10/5): Rather special Maison d'Hote - A lovely stay in a good location. A very welcome host. Typical good Breakfast. Spacious bathroom
- Mary (8/5): - The hotel and service was very nice. The owner was friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very nice. There was no air conditioning and the temperatures were in the 90's so we could not get cool when in our room.
- Rodney (10/5): - My wife and I had a great night at your place. You run this very well. Not bad for a one man show so to speak!! Thanks again. If you find a small bag of presents it might be ours so please let us know and we'll arrange for it to be sent back to us.
Accueil chaleureux.
- Verified traveler (6/5): not there yet - This hotel is trying to be a boutique hotel and it could be great but a lot of things are lacking. For example, there is a limited amount (120 litres per day) of hot water, there is a lack of good quality toileteries, no slippers in the room, a faulty safe and a poor level of cleanliness. There are also thin walls and you can hear everything from the next room. However, the hotel is in a good location within easy walking distance of the old town. I wouldn't rush to rebook.
- Jenna (10/5): One night in Bordeaux, was not enough! - The host was friendly and helpful. Very accommodating in his home. The rooms were pleasant, clean and comfortable. We only stayed for one night but could've stayed longer! The hotel was well located close to the 'downtown' area of Bordeaux.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The traffic noise was so bad we could not sleep. The owner had ear plugs (I assume other people had complained) even using them we could not have a good nights sleep.
The bed was very hard and the bathroom below average for a Deluxe room which is what we booked. This is not a hotel but a Chambres D' Hotes, lovely building but we would certainly not book the L'Arene again.
- Abraham (10/5): Great home with a wonderful host - Jean-Marie the owner is a very nice person with many contacts in the area for food and service. He keeps his home in perfect condition and it is located very near the historical areas of Bordeaux.
The parking is a bit too far from the house but it is expected if you want to stay in historical parts of old town. Walking distance to everything Bordeaux has to offer.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Pictures don't match the room. - We went to the place and looked at the room and promptly left.
Because this was prepaid I was unable to get any refund.
If you want to book this. I would recommend reserving it and only pay after you stay.
- Joanne (10/5): - We arrived soaking wet after running through a downpour in the dark after a wine tour to Ste Emilion. The proprietor was so very kind to us. We needed parking and he assisted with excellent directions to the parking garage to retrieve our car and then offered his personal parking spot.
Room was lovely and bathroom had both tub and separate shower.
Breakfast was very good and we were given directions to a local market that we thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately We didn't recall the proprietor's name. Many thanks for the kind service at your lovely B and B.
- Chris (10/5): Characterful and stylish boutique hotel - We stayed for four nights in September 2016. Great hotel, stylish and interesting.
Comfortable bed and lovely bathroom. A short walk from Bordeaux main sites.
Lovely sitting room with very stylish and quirky touches. We will definitely stay here again.
- Lisa (10/5): - L'Arene Bordeaux B&B was fantastic.
Bed was comfortable room was tastefully decorated, shower was great.
Breakfast was very well done.
Everything about it was perfect.
Great location.
- Michael (10/5): - Loved this place...the host was very friendly and helpful and the hotel is very stylishly designed...in a quiet part of the centre...definitely recommend
- Nick (10/5): Lovely hotel with excellent location. - We very much enjoyed our stay here (9 days.) There was always something new to do each day and the hotel was a peaceful gem hidden in a fantastic location. Our room had a georgeous room and was kept in good condition. Very comfy bed, kettle and a good selection of complementary tea and coffee and the breakfast is great.
There are lots of things worth doing within Bordeaux but we also found a nearby beach in a town called aracachon which was not at all busy and had beautiful golden sands. The old town had wonderful architecture to look at.
The breakfast offers a fine selection of local cheeses ham fresh fruit and bread and cereals and yoghurts. However we found that there is also a must try (and cheap) patisserie/ boulangerie called perrin very close which does footlong baguettes for 3 euros and amazing macaroons and eclaires for 90 cents -1euro 50.
- Nancy (10/5): Lovely old building with modern trendy decor - Lovely place to stay in Bordeaux! Beautiful old building, with trendy modern decor. Bed was super comfortable and the breakfast was very nice. They do offer offsite parking if you book in advance; the owner will lead you to a parking garage nearby where you can park your car securely, for a decent rate (I think it was 15-20 Euros per night). Definitely recommend!
- Bernd (10/5): Chambre d'hotes in ruhiger, zentraler Lage.
- Verified traveler (4/5): UFB (unidentifiable flying bugs) - The place was not hotel but b&b. Generally this place was not managed well. The cups were so dirty and the electric water pot was vomiting dirty with full of white sediment inside. There were four to five flying bugs in the room. The eletric bug repellent was empty. Better to stay in a quality place for this price.
- Gary (10/5): Nice B&B in the heart of Bordeaux. - Very nice B&B in the heart of Bordeaux and easy walking to restaurants, museums and waterfront. Owner is very accommodating and speaks great English. Breakfast on the patio is delightful.
- Guy (10/5): Sejour de rêve - Accueil formidable, endroit formidable, chambre formidable, ambiance formidable, ... envie de vite retourner
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great townhouse in the city centre - We had a fabulous stay in Bordeaux. This guest house is quirky, on the outside a traditional French townhouse with a Delightful courtyard garden. Super breakfast. Our host was extremely helpful and friendly. We will definitely return.
- Verified traveler (10/5): a real gem - excellent two night stay, the hotel is unique in every way, beautifully decorated and with very spacious rooms. the breakfast was tasty and the hosts are extremely helpful with just about anything you will need during your stay.
- Ho Hon Jason (10/5): - THe owner of the hotel is very friendly and helpful. He recommend a transitional french cuisine for our dinner. He provides a really good breakfast (With good cheese selection). The Deco. of the hotel is nice and local. We had a great time during out stay.
- David (6/5): Boutique hotel - More of a guest house or a B&B than a hotel. It is well located, only a 10minute walk into the city. Comfortable rooms, good wi-fi, well appointed bathroom. Breakfast is an optional extra, and at 9euro probably a bit expensive for what you get (a croissant, tub of yoghurt, coffee or tea, limited cheeses and cold meats, small selection of cereal). This is quite an old building which adds to its charm, but the downside of this is that it can be a little noisy, with the wooden floors transmitting the noise throughout. Overall a pleasant stay, but would look for a better value place to stay.
- George (8/5): - Very nice small hotel. If you need to use a computer note that at least in my room, there was no desk and chair to work at.
- Dennis (10/5): A great getaway! - A great experience. The service was impeccable...friendly and caring. Recommend highly!
- Kallie (8/5): Nice boutique B&B in lovely neighbourhood - We had a lovely short stay of just one night at L'Arene in Bordeaux. The B&B is located in a really characterful area, only a short stroll from the centre of beautiful Bordeaux. Our room was a good size with a lovely big bed and the bathroom was good with a spacious shower. Breakfast was typically French and all the ingredients were good quality and delicious. A great B&B base for exploring Bordeaux - wish we could have stayed longer.
- Annette (8/5): French feel - Lovely old world feel with French charm. Very high ceilings and decent size room. Our room looked out onto the Roman ruins and a little enclosed terrace where guests could sit and have a drink. Breakfast was the normal ham, cheese, croissants, coffee etc and was eaten in pleasant surroundings.
- Jan (10/5): Much better than a hotel! - Two night stay with daughter. Much better than a hotel. Interesting house, beautifully renovated with lovely outside space. Walking distance from main historic area and river. Had breakfast on the second morning - which was very good and served looking out onto the garden.
- John (10/5): 4 nights at L'Ariene, Bordeaux - Everything was great about this Chambre d'Haute, the only slight drawback was the longish walk to and from the centre.
Staff always very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Would certainly come back - This wasn't a hotel room really, more like a townhouse apartment. Very spacious, nicely decorated, and comfortable. Reception not open all hours, but my late check in was very smoothly arranged. This would be my obvious choice if I came back to Bordeaux, for pleasure next time.
- Alison (8/5): Perfect Bordeaux hotel - Lovely little hotel with a helpful owner. Very well designed and perfect for exploring the city. Would stay here again.
- Catherine (8/5): Comfortable B&B, perfect for an overnight stay - We stayed at L’Arène Bordeaux for 1 night and although check-in was at 5pm the owners were able to accommodate our early arrival time of 3pm. The room was modern, fairly basic but cosy with a queen sized bed, safe (which we couldn't work out), tea & coffee making facilities and a small mini bar selection. Looking out the bedroom window we had a view of the roman ruins of palais gallien. We stayed on the 1st floor and our challenge was getting our large suit cases up the winding staircase as we had been travelling for a while. As we stayed on a weekend we were able to park on the street without any parking restrictions. If you were staying during the week I would arrange parking in advance. We opted for breakfast on check-in and it was pretty basic with croissants, cereal, fresh juice, tea and coffee and fresh home-made jams but enough to kick start your day. On the day of departure the owners were happy for us to leave our bags whilst we ventured into town which was a 10-15 minute walk.
- Marianne (8/5): Pleasant stay - It served our purpose perfectly. Central location. Friendly and helpful host. Will recommend to friends.
- patoisbystebner (10/5): really botique botique hotel. - This lovely hotel in a quiet neighborhood is all the photos and description on its website present. I only wish he had more time there. Beautiful spaces with view of the Roman arena, squeaky clean, great breakfast and more all within 10 to 15 minute walk to restaurants and shopping ad well as tourist sites. I hate to rate it so highly in case I won't be able to get rooms there the next time I'm in Bordeaux!
- Jackie (10/5): A charming B&B, a quiet street, centre of Bordeaux - This was exactly what I was looking for - a small, friendly boutique B&B situated in a quiet street close to the centre of Bordeaux to soak up the French way of life. A beautifully renovated traditional townhouse arranged over three floors. My room was very well presented, tastefully furnished, comfortable and whilst not huge was big enough to enjoy spending time in with a view of the roman arena for which the B&B takes its name. Breakfast is traditional continental which can be taken indoors or out on the patio where you can also enjoy a glass or two of excellent Bordeaux wine after a hard day of sightseeing. Jean-Marie is an excellent host who went out of his way to ensure I had an enjoyable stay. I would definitely stay here again.
