Guest Reviews
- Angela (9/5): - Extremely clean and comfortable property.
The location was great for getting straight into the heart of Whitby.
I have mobility issues and was looking for somewhere that didn't entail walking up and down hills to access the delights of Whitby.
Although it wasn't advertised as fully accesible because the bedrooms are on the first floor, it was great for someone who can manage stairs (if not easily) but needs easy access into the property and the surrounding area.
It was quiet and private with a handy outdoor seating area.
The two bathrooms and downstairs toilet in the utility room were really useful.
Would definitely book again at the right price.
Managed to park two small cars at a squeeze, which was a godsend for Whitby. Therecwas a little bit of mystery aboutvthe parking, until we actually arrived and saw it for ourselves.
However can understand this as it is available depending on the size of vehicle.
Would be better to make this clearer in advance.
- Katrina-Ann (8/5): A little gem, needing a little polish - We stayed at the cottage as a group of 5, and found it to have plenty of space. Cosy accommodation, that was fully equipped with kitchen wares cutlery, crockery, cups and glasses(washing up liquid, teatowel, and 3 dishwasher tabs), even salt and pepper! The complimentary tea, coffee and sugar was a nice touch.
The bedrooms are a good size, and the location of the cottage, in terms of amenities, is fantastic! Literally a stones throw from everything u need.
Little suggestions:
a mirror in the en suite. (There is a shaving socket)
Hook or towel rail/ shelf in en suite, as nowhere to hang.
Some kind of clothes storage in the double *Locating the cottage was difficult, even using the satnav. Ended up asking reception at the hotel nearby, for directions. Apparently a frequent occurance.
*Accessing the private parking is quite tight, especially with a larger car.
Where the majority of the cottage was clean, there were a few areas that need attention:
*the extraction fans in the bathrooms are absolutely caked in dust. So thick, it couldn't be blown off! The same with the radiators. We actually rescued the window keys, from the radiator grill in the en suite, also dusty.
Between 3 bedrooms, we found a protein bar wrapper, 2 chocolate balls, several sanitary product wrappers. This was only noticed, as I dropped an earring back, and on trying to locate mine, we found someone else's, in the middle of the carpet, that surely would've being hoovered up?!.
*Not long after we had checked in, we were already recieving emails counting down our check out. Reminding about strict check out times. Kinda pee'd on things a little.
- John-Paul (9/5): - We've stay a few times now and love it....location is the best, parking space is great. We hope to come back. Leather seats in front room very difficult to get out of.
- Luke (10/5): -
- Lee (9/5): -
- Watson (5/5): - The area The showers were rubbish
- Emma (10/5): - All of it Nothing
- anne (10/5): - Lovely cottage bonus of downstairs toilet/ laundry room and private parking doggie loved wood burner Nothing
- Cliff (3/5): Try finding it! - Love the location and on site parking The problems we experienced have been reported many times by other reviewers over the last 2 years:
No property signage made finding it a stressful chore
Cobwebs aplenty inside
Lots of marks on the walls
Terrible vacuuming job throughout
No wardrobe in one of the bedrooms
No mirror in the en-suite
No logs for log burner
Poor WiFi
Zero character, not even some local prints or pictures
Please remedy these problems so that we could stay here again.
- Joanne (7/5): A great cottage in an ideal location, but needs a bit of attention to details. - Central location. The log burner made it cosy.the open plan room is nice. Modern furnishings. The pots are a little old and well worn. The wifi doesn’t work at all. The password doesn’t work. It is impossible to stream films on the tv. There is no clothes storage in the second double bedroom. We stayed the day after Boxing Day and there were no decorations, despite us asking and not getting a response.
- david (10/5): -
- Julie (7/5): Great location - Location Needs some thorough cleaning
- anne (10/5): great as always - location perfect lovely house a spare key would be handy, i realise some people have forgotten to leave spare key when departing maybe charge deposit and collect from Bagdale Hall hotel
- Christine (9/5): - Location. Parking Could do with a little tlc. The shower in ensuite kept clogging up
- Tara (10/5): Few days away - Location was excellent, parking space was a bonus. Comfortable beds. Lovely and warm. Well equipped If I'm being really picky, some of the blinds need repairing/replacing
- Colin (8/5): - Very well located , comfortable and secure private parking off street . Omfortable rooms clean linen etc . Quite basic but good economic stay.
- Brenda (6/5): Lovely stay but cottage a bit disappointing - Location was excellent well placed for shops pubs sightseeing and restaurants. The staff in Bagdale Hall very friendly and the food was super The cottage was basic no character. No hanging space in second bedroom and not enough drawers to accommodate everything for 5days. Lived out of suitcases
- Jodie (9/5): Fantastic location, ideal for a short break! - Great communication from the company that run this cottage. Lovely accommodation, in the center of Whitby, with a parking space is unheard of!! Spacious house, has everything you need, comfortable beds, nice kitchen / dining area. Has everything you would need for a short break to Whitby. Easy smooth access to the property on the day, I felt safe here with my twins. Thank you for a lovely stay. If I had to add anything - perhaps some bins in the bathrooms and a toilet roll holder of some sort might be useful. Other than that, this property was wonderful.
- Lisa (8/5): Good central accommodation - Close to town centre and has parking Outside needed a bit of a weed and next door has a loud telephone ring that goes off from 8.30 so no sleeps in.
- Nathan (7/5): Enjoyed Whitby and super location. - Location was very good with secure parking.
Accommodation was spacious and well equipped apart from comment below re bedrooms. Very noisy from premises next door.
Lack of cupboard space and hooks upstairs.
Courtyard could have been swept and dirty towel removed!
- steve (3/5): Disappointed - The location was really good There is so much wrong with this place, dirty, needs some real tlc, fans need cleaning, shower was dirty, fire equipment has not been serviced last serviced 2021.
The list was very long.
Was a real shame
- Rosemary (9/5): - Comfortable and spacious, great location
- Allison (6/5): Ok - The location near town centre Lack of facilities in house
Noise from wholesale warehouse next door
- karen (3/5): just OK - a very empty/basic property, whilst it was clean, there is room for LOTS of improvement. The courtyard is absolutely filthy, the outside table covered in old dried seagull mess (we had to clean it before we could sit there). Lots of mold in the courtyard, no colour, not even one plant to add something. The kitchen floor has gaps in it, it needs repair. The coffee machine (my friend has exactly the same one so knows how to use it) was not functioning. There were no cupboards in the bedroom or dresser to put anything on, no place to hang towels etc. There wasn't any hand soap in any loo's so you had to go to collect your own handwash etc from upstairs. There wasn't a hairdryer!! (who does not leave a hairdryer). The pillows were flat, not comfortable - we could not get into the property until 4pm, due to (supposedly) cleaners being in there.....however, the house was fusty, it had not been opened up that same day, there wasnt even a small welcome pack to get a cuppa, just some little milk sachets in the fridge (the ones you need 10 of to turn your tea/coffee milky).........no colours on the walls - at least put a picture up!! What I have mentioned here would not cost the earth to put right and make this a more enjoyable holiday home to rent out. It is hard to find, at least put a sign up on the large black metal doors so its easier to spot!! The windows in the kitchen was full of cobwebs....not pleasant with some dead flies laying in it. All of this is simple to correct and make it better.
- Darryl (6/5): the location was brilliant but probably wouldn't stay again - the location was really good, and the place could have been really nice but unfortunately its just there to make money and there not interested in the upkeep of the place the carpet was all ripped and not fastened down the en-suit bathroom was unusable as the water wouldn't go down and flooded the bedroom on the first night and part off the sink in the kitchen was broken and for the money they charge you'd think they'd keep the wee stains out the carpet
- Gillian (7/5): Quite comfortable but could do with a few extras and a better maintanence and a more thorough clean lots of cobwebs - Modern and fairly new Nowhere to put things in the bedrooms or bathrooms upstairs, could do with a dressing table or shelves somewhere. No mirror in en-suite or bathroom . En-suite shower waste totally blocked took 10 mins to empty was afraid it would overflow onto the floor. Freezer was disgustingly iced up had never been defrosted. Sharp knives in kitchen wouldn’t cut anything very blunt.no hairdryer. Outside gate wouldn’t stay open and very difficult to get in and out . No bins upstairs at all. Main bed very hard. Carpet downstairs very marked.
- Tim (9/5): Superb -
- Maisie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Fiona (7/5): Would return but not perfect this time round - Clean, good location, parking. This was my second trip and I would like to return. We signed into Netflix and Amazon. Neither would play. There was sound but the image was severely distorted and couldn’t be watched. It was very strange. The normal terrestrial television worked fine.
There were still no hooks or shelves in the bathrooms despite the feedback apparently being taken on board previously. Towels had to go on the toilet seat or on the floor.
Radiator in living room didn’t come on with the rest (it was switched on) although the thermostat worked fine and could be turned up.
As the coffee machine was still broken (it was in November 2024 as well), I messaged to ask how it could be fixed. I was told the coffee machine wasn’t available for us and the cottage wasn’t advertised as having one, despite there being one there on the bench with a large selection of pods. It is also in fact advertised (“coffee maker”).
The Internet speed was very (very!) slow, always being under 20mbs but usually around 0.5-2mbs. I tried to get this rectified and I was repeatedly told someone would get back to me but they didn’t.
I raised this after we returned home and was said they would take it on board but I wasn’t offered any money back or any gesture of good will.
I would give it another go because of the location and parking but I was a bit disappointed at the fact nothing was done about the TV and internet for 4 days.
- Charlotte (8/5): Lovey comfortable stay in great surroundings and a perfect location just 2 mins from the centre of Whitby - The property is in a fabulous location, we travelled with dogs and it was perfect with a secure courtyard and parking. Lovely comfy beds and plenty of room for all of us. The WiFi sadly wasn’t working so we were unable to use the smart TV.
- Dylan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (10/5): Great 2 week stay - Lovely Cottage very clean and cosy and warm and everything we needed, bonus very near to town about 5 minutes and parking an added bonus, looking forward to May for our next stay Nothing
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (9/5): Superb - Location is only a 5 min walk to the harbour and the beach, on site parking, great size kitchen with everything you need Early check out of 10am ideally 11-12 o'clock would be great, Bathrooms need a few shelves, mirrors and some hooks for towels, dressing gowns when getting out the shower
- Fiona (8/5): Parking place, clean, good location - Parking is a huge bonus for Whitby. I would definitely go back. It was clean and tidy. It was also handy having two bathrooms and three toilets (downstairs as well). The location is very good and very central. There were no logs for the log burner. I was told this is because the property is self-catering however I have stayed in at least 10-15 other properties that are self-catering and have log burners and I’ve always been left at least one small bag of wood which lasts a few fires.
Also, the thermostat was set at 13 or 15 degrees. It was cold most of the time (I was there mid-November). You could turn it up but the thermostat said it had been disconnected so it wasn’t until day 2 that I worked out how to do it.
I asked in advance where the parking space was and I was told to just follow the map. I did so and had no idea where it was, as I suspected, having looked on GoogleMaps before I arrived. I called up and was assisted quickly. I was told that others had struggled to find it too. For anyone else who books, it’s up the bank, on the right (going up), big black gate, lamppost next to it.
- Paul (10/5): Weekend break - No walking up the hill, nice location Kitchen flooring was sliding apart. The directions could have been easier. The map sent to the location was wrong , and it sent us back out to bagdale Road. There was no mention of going through the black gates or just the second lamp post up on the right, then turn into the courtyard with the black gates
- Jeffrey (7/5): Good location. - Good location, though a little noisy. Outside area needs a good clean.
- Richard (10/5): Excellent home from home . - close to the town . Big Beds and very spacious. would definitely stay here again. Really helps having parking as well. nothing to say.
- Anne (8/5): Great location and generally facilities . Improvements needed as stated above . - Location, space, facilities, parking. Some aspects didn’t meet expectations re cleanliness eg the freezer and grill.
- Joanne (10/5): Fantastic place to stay, quiet area to say how close to town - Great location, good size for 2 couples and parking a bonus Just lacking loo roll holders and towel rails in the bathroom. Having to pay for accidental damage extra
- John-paul (9/5): Superb - New sofas much more comfortable Needed tea towels and washing up items
- Graham (8/5): A comfortable cottage in a lovely location - The cottage was in a nice quiet area despite being close to the centre of Whitby. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The cottage was difficult to find - we had to ask for directions at a nearby hotel, as we couldn't spot where we needed to go from in our car. There was a Nespresso coffee machine provided, along with several different coffee pods, but the coffee produced wasn't very nice: it looked like the machine needed a good clean.
- Rebecca (6/5): Comfortable and clean - I liked the location, bedroom and three bathrooms. The WIFI wasn’t working due to a block on the account- this surely should have been checked prior to guests arriving- and this wasn’t resolved during our stay. We had no updates on the issue. We wouldn’t have booked if we’d have known there was no WIFI. The cottage itself was well maintained and beautiful throughout but there wasn’t a single bin upstairs or in any of the bathrooms and this is an issue for menstruating women.
- Pauline (9/5): Brilliant - If you put a picture of the gate entrance would be easier to find property Had to go into hotel and ask Mike was extremely helpful
Hooks on back of doors or walls in bathrooms would be handy
- Keith (10/5): - Overall excellent as lovely old building conveniently located. Food very good.
- Leanne (8/5): Very good - Lovely clean, modern, tidy house. Great location with parking for 1 car. Lovely house, just needed a few small things sorting. Arrived to a broken Nespresso machine, the toilet seat was very loose & slid to one side when sat on, the ensuite shower was very slow draining & maybe needed drain cleaner down it & the join between the wooden flooring & carpeted area downstairs needed re-doing. The map wasn't accurate showing the property in Bagdale Hall itself but it was up past the back lane & had to get out to walk & look for the house, but other that that a great stay!
- Richard (9/5): Great weekend away with family at one of the best coastal towns in the country - Great location, very close to the centre of Whitby, nice and spacious and very clean, would recommend a stay here Difficult to find, no signs and had to ask at Bagdale Hall reception as to the location
- Carolyne (9/5): As always a fabulous time in Whitby we will definitely stop in this property again. - The location was ideal & onsite parking a rarity in Whitby. The property was a nice size and would comfortably accommodate 5 although only 3 of us on this occasion. It was clean comfortable & modern. There wasn’t anything we didn’t like a minor grumble we couldn’t fathom the coffee machine, that was probably down to user error.
- Roanna (8/5): Very good location , quiet with parking. - Couldn’t find the cottage as no sign and tucked away even the postman didn’t know! Satnav not helpful. Luckily the hotel is near and the staff there showed us.
Parking for 2 cars is small and nice seating area
Fresh bathroom refurb Limited kitchen supplies ( no bread knife)
Bed in master very hard
- Samantha (6/5): Not for us - A one night stop off to break up longer journey. Chose based on age and history. And because of this the room was very aged and old fashioned decor. Quite dusty around carpet edges. Family room is large & spacious but right in the attic. Difficult if you have mobility issues. / prams etc. and the heat was overbearing. Couldn’t get old fashioned windows to stay open and also the noise of seagulls on roof meant couldn’t keep them open as kept us awake most of the night. Limited parking and overflow at top of hill. Again not great if mobility an issue or if have lots of luggage / small children.
Overall it wasn’t a bad place it just really wasn’t suitable for us and if we’d have been there for longer I’d would have asked to switch rooms. The heat / noise was unbearable.
- Petrina (10/5): A great holiday had by all - The location was brilliant literally 2 mins walk to the harbour and town ..old town not far either all close by ..beach 10 mins walk everything at hand for a lovely holiday ..cottage clean and wi fi works ..comfy beds The seagulls but that’s not the cottage fault
- Fiona (8/5): Perfect cottage for exploring Whitby. - The property was clean and had everything we needed (except a chopping board and potato peeler). The location was perfect and extremely close to Whitby centre, a stones throw from the rail and bus stations if you wanted to explore further afield. Will definitely go back, but for a longer break next time, 2 nights wasn't enough. It was difficult to locate as it is tucked away, and there is no sign to help you discover it.
- Christine (7/5): Great location and once problems solved good holiday. - On arrival no pillowcases on bed stain on duvet cover. No sinage on property to help you find it.
- Susan (7/5): Good -
- Leslie (4/5): Patio with 'great' view of car park - We were staying in the annex. Room in need of urgent refurbishment - noisy floorboards, broken door catches & faulty toilet systern.
- Brian (9/5): Superb - Easy access, very comfortable
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional - Location, parking, facilities Good do with a baby/dog gate on the stairs
- Sharon (5/5): Nice but not great for dog owners - Decent location for town centre. Clean on arrival. Decor plain but fine. Facilities downstairs really good. I had read the feedback for the last year and comments on seating had been listened to as now 2 leather 3 seater settees in place which worked well. A lot wasn't listened to in previous site feedback given during 2023! Storage upstairs useless! Beds ridiculously hard and pillows so thin and worn. We took our 2 labradors and regretted it. The place is not pet friendly. The local park does not allow dogs, the only place we found close to the cottage was an alleyway leading to a block of flats with a few scraps of grass on the side (and a resident complained because we let them off the lead - but my girl dog won't do anything on the lead!! - I was so stressed). The next piece of scrap land was on the NHS hospital site which isn't appropriate, or the beach 10 mins walk away. Lack of sleep and poor experience with dogs we left a day early. No info pack about facilities inside the cottage, only a couple of sheets on local restaurants. Don't know where bins are..... We had to put bin bag outside covered by a seat to stop seagulls ripping apart - there are many sat on roof tops, loud and noisy from 5am, however, it is a seaside town so to be expected.
- Tracy (9/5): Ideal place in Whitby - This a lovely place to stay. Very close to the station and only a short walk to the sea front and town. It is very well equipped and clean with comfortable beds and furniture. I would definitely recommend the cottage and would stay again. It isn't easy to find you need to drive up the side road past the hall towards the hospital and you will see a large black metal gate the cottage is in there hidden from view. My only criticism is that there were no bins in the bathrooms or bedrooms. And there were no toilet roll holders in any of the bathrooms. It would be helpful with better instructions on how to find the cottage. We luckily got help from the staff at the hall.
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Malcolm (10/5): - Quirky property. Huge room.
- Simpson (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location .excellent cottage everything we needed .very clean and comfortable. Room for two cars which is an added bonus .I would definitely recommend Bagdale Hall cottage. We will definitely be booking again . Nothing
- Catherine (7/5): Wins on location but could do even better. - Really handy for the town centre, and good to have off-street parking. The property has quality equipment, and the new sofas are an improvement. It's good to have a little outdoor seating area. Despite comments in previous reviews saying it just needs some finishing touches to rate it excellent, few changes have been made...a few pictures on the wall, a mirror downstairs, coat hooks on bedroom doors etc. It is a little stark. An ashtray is provided outside but hasn't been emptied or cleaned on either of our visits. The noise from the commercial facility next door can't be helped but does have a negative impact.
- Vincent (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean, great layout. Had everything you needed. Great location, very close to the centre. Would recommend and when we come back will look to book there again. Shower needs looking at in En suite. Shower tray filled with water and wasn't draining away quickly enough, it was in danger of overflowing onto floor so had to turn water off. Maybe look at the plumbing. Other than that everything was excellent 👌
- John (1/5): very dirty and unclean the property needs updating - very dirty and unclean the property needs updating
- Stephanie (7/5): Really enjoyed it! - Amazing location - couple of minutes walk to the front, property is setup with everything that you could need. Some of the facilities / amenities weren’t suitable for 5 - sofas have been upgraded since pictures were taken so now have 6 seats but only 4 outside seats, 4 seats at the kitchen table (however there is a breakfast bar right next to it with 2 additional seats) and 4 forks.
- Nicola (9/5): Excellent location - The cottage was extremely clean with everything required. The location is amazing, just a short walk into the centre of Whitby and the parking was a great bonus.
- Ian (8/5): Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. - The location was perfect close to all amenities. The electric showers in both the bathrooms didn't work properly, kept going hot then cold. They could do with upgrading to mixer showers.
Would of liked some logs left for the log burner.
- Mark (8/5): The 4 of us. - En suite room shower tray was filling up faster than it was emptying so didn't risk a 2nd one....apart from that we were all happy with the place, many thanks. Drainage from en suite shower tray.
- Vicky (7/5): Quality family time in a perfectly positioned cottage in an exceptional coastal area with lots to offer. - Excellent location, quiet but within easy reach. Facilities were great, beds were really comfy. En suite shower, pressure was very poor, either freezing or literally scalding hot and shower tray showed signs of a blockage. Water wouldn’t drain effectively. Sofas need to be steam cleaned or replaced, to be fair we always take our own throws with us, been caught out with this before, so we used our throws when sitting on the sofas. Communication needs updating to reflect changes, outside bins are not located in position suggested, they have. Even moved from Lobster Hall to Bagdale Hall car park.
- Craig (9/5): A nice weekend with great weather - Location Not easy to find
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Denise (10/5): Absolutely perfect - The vicinity it was close to the town , the cottage was spotlessly clean it had everything we needed for our 2 night stay ,, the kitchen was amazing there was a washer and dryer I highly recommend this cottage Nothing
- Anonymous (8/5): Great location, clean but no personality - Fantastic location. The property was lacking pictures/bits to make it feel homely or cosy. It is practical but cold & sparse.
- John-paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (8/5): Very good - Great little cottage in a central location with onsite parking. We are a returning party of 5 adults. Lovely little cottage but we were disappointed that none of the suggestions we made last year had been done. As a party of 5 adults additional seating is essential in the living and dining area. Only 2 x2 seater settees and 4 dining chairs. No hanging space in the second double bedroom. No hooks in the bathrooms to hang damp towels. No mirror in the en suite bathroom. Also the front gate can be difficult to open and would benefit from a sign stating that they were for the cottage. Unable to empty the Bins as they not where stated.
- Leisa (5/5): Great location, did the job but feels like purely a money making house with no soul. - Super location right in the centre. Private outdoor space although small and very basic. Could have been spruced up with a couple of pot plants and a sweep of the yard. House very clean though. Not homely at all. No drawers in the bedroom - had to have a suitcase on the floor in the 3rd bedroom. No books / games / rugs / pictures on the walls to make it feel cosy. Feels very functional. No potato peeler or even basics like salt. No toilet roll holder, hooks on doors, towel rails. Feels like it's not quite finished.
- Patricia (10/5): Exceptional - The location was perfect, plenty of room, everything you needed for a comfortable stay was provided..private courtyard for parking was excellent There wasn't anything we didn't like
- Claire (8/5): Very good - Location good but we had to find a grass area for our dog as not one outside property and unfortunately the park that was close by didn’t allow dogs As above
- Rachel (8/5): Lovely weekend break for party of 5 and 2 dogs. Enough room for us all - The house is in a brilliant location, very centrally located near the bus station. Perfect for my mum who has copd and therefore can struggle to walk long distances. Property has everything you need for your stay. Managed to also park 2 cars at the property which was an added bonus. Walk in centre/ hospital right next door which was also useful when one of our party got tonsillitis during our stay. Some of the decor could do with a bit of TLC ie floor boards move in the kitchen which can be a trip hazard, slight smell of damp in the bathroom upstairs when we first arrived. Also property has no sign outside or anything to give you an inclination of what your looking for when arriving. Feel a small sign on the wall would be very helpful as we spent about 15 mins driving round a busy area trying to find it before contact the management company.
- Allison (3/5): Poor - It was clean
It was a great location near the town centre It was really difficult to find
Directions provided did not correspond to the location.Hotel next door was not helpful in finding property
Beds too hard
No bins upstairs
No drawers in bedrooms for clothes
No wardrobes in bedrooms 2 & 3
No mirror in en-suite bathroom ,no where to hang wet towels
Property set up for 4 persons but has room for 5
Very noisy due to trillos next door .Deliveries as early as 7.30am.Staff shouting, engines left running on vans.Vans blocking entrance to property,so you cannot get your car out.
- Richard (5/5): Passable - The location was perfect & bonus it had parking The house was generally grubby, all the kitchen surfaces felt dirty.
The walls were all marked.
Sofas were very uncomfortable & all the cushions were stained
- Michael (7/5): Good - No Instruction booklets, everything was on line and a bit vague. Couldn't find the bins and heating wasnt explained very well.
Plenty of televisions a bit over the top but not enough clothes storage one bedroom had none
- Kenneth (9/5): The property was excellent for the purpose of our visit - The property was clean and tidy. There was plenty of room for us all. The facilities were excellent. There were plenty of glasses cups plates etc. We could not get the tv to work but as we could stream the programs we wanted to watch it didn't matter. The ensuite shower room could have done with a mirror over the sink a shelve to put tooth brush toothpaste etc and a towel rail to put damp towels on.
- Catherine (6/5): Could be so much better - Great location with parking (we reversed into the gateway for easier exit). Some quality white goods, showers, oven etc. En suite bedroom mattress good (other double a little firm). Hotel quality linen and towels. Smart tv, which was handy when the signal broke up most days. Where to start?! No instructions for heating etc and it was often too hot (the digital control was set to the wrong day and time (and the boiler switched off) when we arrived, I spent my first evening (cold and tired) looking up online how to adjust it but even with it reset we never got the balance of heating right, so opened windows and turned off and on radiators upstairs!). A lovely woodburner but no tools and door wouldn't close, so unusable. No oven gloves. No waste bins, downstairs mirror, pictures on the wall, not enough furniture for 5, no chairs in bedrooms. Lovely blinds but the light flooded down the sides of them and woke us early. Blinds and curtains would be more effective. Cleaning ok in general but I had to deal with a tray of old sausage fat left in the dishwasher and some glasses had red wine residue. The bin stank of old fish but there was no bleach to clean it, and there were old, desiccated chips under the bin liner when I removed it. The outside table had a pot of cigarette ends in water on top. I was bombarded with emails throughout the process by the agency, to nuisance point! The verification process has to be done with a touchscreen (not a laptop as I was trying) for a signature but I had no help when I rang and emailed re this and was finally threatened with a cancellation, despite having paid in full and paid a damage waiver. Staff were pleasant but no help. I may use again for location etc but it could be so much better with a few changes.
- Dale (10/5): we had the best time and loved the cottage. - the location was good. parking was excellent and secure.
the property was very comfortable we couldn’t get normal tv channels as there was no aerial connection
- Anonymous (8/5): Great location, fabulous dog friendly cottage with everything you need - fantastic location, private garden area, great layout which was perfect for us finding it! hidden behind 2 big gates so not easy to spot, maybe the name / number on the gates would help
- Anna (8/5): Very good - Great location for the town
Very clean
Quiet location
Well equipped and modern Mattresses were extremely hard
It was quite difficult to find the property as it wasn't where the map showed it to be and we had to ask at the hall for directions.
Heating controller could have done with better instructions
- Wendy (7/5): Good - Location Beds and signal for tvs
Beds so uncomfortable so hard
TV no signal on all tvs
- John-paul (9/5): Superb -
- Laura (9/5): Nice comfy, clean little place in a great location - Comfy, clean, and in a great location.
There is a parking space (although it’s a bit of a challenge to get into it!), which is really useful given it’s more or less in Whitby town centre.
Lots of lovely places to eat and drink within a short walk.
Has more or less everything you need in the kitchen for a short self-catering stay, including a few bits of cleaning stuff and basic cooking equipment. If we’re being picky, they could improve on a few little things: there’s no towel rail in the main bathroom, no bins upstairs, the bin bags downstairs didn’t fit the bin (and the outside bins were nowhere to be found in the location the instructions gave!), it’s hard to turn the heating down so it was too warm, no tools or fuel provided for the log burner, and very flimsy pillows in the bedrooms.
Also, the pinned location isn’t quite right and there’s no obvious sign outside so we had to go to the nearby hotel for directions. They said they get that a lot for this place!
That sounds like a lot but really they’re just small suggestions for improvement and didn’t cause a problem – we still had a really nice stay.
- Jennifer (8/5): Great spot to stay - Location .parking facilities Hard to find as tucked away. Needs a sign on gate. No non slip shower mat in en suite. Very slippy for 2 pensioners using this. Couldn't turn heating down. Turned off radiators. Opened doors.
- Christine (10/5): would definitely recommend to others and would definitely stay here again the only thing we were a bit shocked at was th - spacious and absolutely immaculate there was everything you needed. The location was excellent right near the front The gates should be a bit more detailed to make it
easier to find. Also maybe better quality toilet paper and extra bin bags
- Philip (10/5): lovely clean place and in an excellent location - clean and modern the showers were not very good
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Kevin (9/5): Superb -
- Fidel (2/5): Very poor - Location not far to walk to town. Spotless accommodation It was freezing 14°c . Informed host and stay the heating wasn't working and for the 3 nights we stayed they did nothing. Offered a 10% discount on what we paid which was £476 and got £35 . Their maths is terrible but said we didn't get £47.60 because accommodation needed cleaning. So wouldn't they have cleaned it if we didnt complain. Didn't the insurance we paid cover any cleaning. Shocking treatment won't use them again
- Stephen (8/5): Very good - close to amenities mattresses were hard
- Jackie (10/5): Fantastic little Cottage !!!! - This is a lovely little cottage, the open plan made it feel really spacious, it was warm and spotless and also had 2 bathrooms which is a bonus and a further toilet downstairs.
It is in a fantastic location just behind Bagdale hall , no hills to climb which will suit people who struggle and has parking for one car . Fantastic little find , will be booking again 😀 There wasn't anything we didn't like !
