davidbI8090TT (8/5): A lovely stay in magnificent surroundings - We booked a Deluxe sea-view room and weren't disappointed. The room was nominally on the ground floor, although this level was a few steps up from reception. The room was large and comfortable, and it seemed that it must have been completely refurbished recently. The room was large, with two new-looking easy chairs and we had an extra-large bed. The bathroom had a smallish bath as well as a separate shower cubicle. Again, the bathroom furniture and decor seemed very recent. The breakfast was buffet-style, with an excellent choice of hot and cold food, both of excellent quality. The staff with whom we interacted were friendly and efficient.

The Receptionist was great when we booked, but the Restaurant Manager and the Head Chef when we stayed Thursday, 18th October were amazing dealing with some disgruntled customers - professional and turned the situation around so well done
V2490SJangelab (6/5): Lovely Spa Facilities - Visited for a spa day with a choice of mini treatment. I opted for a facial. The spa treatment rooms are OK; clean and well appointed. I had a couple of concerns. Firstly, there is zero personal service on arrival. You find a chair, fill out the form, and just wait for someone to come and grab you. It all feels a little impersonal. The treatment rooms are also very close together with no soundproofing. You cannot hear other patrons, but you can hear everything that travels along the busy thoroughfare outside the room. Which makes for a less-than-serene experience. The treatments are fine (I had a few). Again, however, they all felt fairly perfunctory and impersonal. After my first treatment, I was also pushed to buy the products used, which I did not appreciate nor ask to know about. The pool, sauna, jacuzzi, and other rooms were clean, and modern. Which was lovely: the only downside is that the lockers in the changing rooms need a £1 coin to operate. Which not many would have on them nowadays (I didn’t). There also isn’t direct any direct access from the changing areas to the pool area, it’s only a short walk, but I would have preferred the former. Having tried this hotel and The Mercure (Queen’s Hotel) very close tecently, the Mercure is far superior in experience and treatments, and it excels at customer service. Something I found sadly lacking at The Westcliff spa. My guess is that as they offer so many spa packages on Red Letter Days, and others, that the customer service is lost - they don’t have the time to treat everyone with the same superior level of service. All of the staff I encountered were polite and were fine, but looked rushed. My advice is if you want a premium childfree pool, spa and jacuzzi only, go for the Westcliff. If you want a truly decadent spa day and aren’t bothered about the other facilities, where the customer service is second-to-none, plump for the Mercure. You’ll thank me for it.
Clive (2/5): 3 night stay - The reception was ok. Cleanliness ok Bed comfort Zero Bathroom Area Zero General atmosphere Zero. Only food available a Breakfast box by the door. Left after one night and had to pay to stay in another hotel Hotel near by provide good service and Evening meal plus cooked breakfast at just a small amount more than the Westcliffe. Cost me an additional £500. Covid Excuse does not apply as I have stayed in 4 hotels in Devon and Cornwall all providing good service and Food. Only worth £40 per night if you did not want to eat and sleep. Would not recommend it to Anyone
thomasbX3237WA (6/5): Business trip - I stayed here a few years ago and hotel was run down,I came back just for the night to see if it was ok to put quite a few guys here for a couple of months as I start a new project next month,I noticed the hotel had had a refurb but as I got to room I realised it was only the reception and corridors that had been done up!!Half a job basically but still rooms were not too bad.The problem lies when I had two colleges with me that I needed to take to my room where we could have a cup of tea and go over some drawings,the receptionist/owner point blank refused my work colleges to go to the room with me with only the very poor excuse of using covid rules as an excuse!!!I really couldn’t believe it as this really shouldn’t be his decision who I have in my room as a number of others came in together and all went to their room!!!I stay in a lot of hotels all over the world and have done throughout the whole lockdown and have never had an issue aslong as we stick to the rules!!!Sorry but a few new painted walls and new doors does not make it the ritz and I won’t be staying here again and he has potentially lost thousands that I would have paid for multiple rooms for several months!!!Still not to bad as a good nights sleep but made me feel like it was a prison for the night…..

Bed was very comfy and it was very clean but water pressure in shower was not very strong. We ordered breakfast which was around £7 but it didn’t meet our expectations as most of it was packaged sugary food. The pool, sauna and jacuzzi was a real highlight, and booking a slot to ourselves was easy.
Naughtynita73a (2/5): Fawlty towers comes to mind d - The reviews you see here really are true...this hotel is a complete joke .the so called hotel staff are rude..when we first checked in for room 20 it stunk bad...crammed and battered.so in fairness he did swap my room to room 17 it was bigger... when you shower the water doesn't go down ..the so called towel rail is above the toilet.which is a no no for me you also have to run the shower a good 2minutes before water gets hot shower door doesn't close..reported it but they still don't care.towels are shabby and not only do you use them for ur room u have to use then for leisure room to.asking for ice seems to be an issue.sauna never hot and when u ask is it on u do get attitude 4years ago this was a beautiful place now it really is a joke...oh and headboard isn't attached to the bed or wall.iron is burnt marks all over it wouldn't use anyways.now the joke about cleaners...what cleaners????the same bunch of fluff has been outside my door since Sunday lol.staff needs training on customer service cus they truly are rude as some reviews state.AVOID THIS DuMP Seriously!!!

Dahlia (8/5): Great Staff - At first we found all the extra rules quite frustrating (Only 1 hour in the pool at allocates time, no left luggage, no late check out etc) but I have to say the manager really made up for it and was so kind and accommodating and let my kids use the cinema even after we checked out. He made us feel very welcome and for this reason we were happy overall.

David (2/5): Avoid this hotel - Hotel very poor. Bedroom small and cramped, same with the bathroom. Hot water non existent at peak times in the morning and evening. Continental breakfast served in a box. Very basic and charged £8 but items in the box came with prices on and tbd cost was just over £3
Alison (2/5): Avoid!! - Avoid room 14!!! I am extremely disappointed having contacted the hotel on two separate occasions and have still not had a response! Rather than write a poor review, I thought I would speak to the lady on the desk to raise my concerns. This has been quite an unpleasant stay for a few reasons - The standard of cleaning in room was terrible even after I addressed this on arrival, the room got hoovered but it still needed cleaning especially around places that needed a pipe to clean the area! The bathroom shower tray was absolutely filthy! Additionally, we didn’t get much sleep at all, due to the bed being so uncomfortable; the springs stick out and so we had to sleep on top of the duvet but also the bed tilts when lying close to the left side by the window! The hair dryer has no safety guard on it and when I dried my hair, I got all my hair sucked into the back and had to cut it out!! I went to the reception desk to ask for a replacement so I could dry my hair after swimming and they said I had to wait for house keeping to arrive but we were checking out so I couldn’t dry it! Also the jacuzzi had scum all around it. When I raised these these concerns I was just told sorry! This wasn’t good enough; the manager wasn’t there to speak too! I would never return or recommend this hotel!

BusterB866 (6/5): Not the best of starts .... but ok in the end - We didn’t get off to best start as we arrived early but were told by the receptionist that we were unable to book in before 3pm as it was strict policy - ok but could we leave our luggage and come back (case was locked and I was prepared to leave at my own risk) but was again told there was nowhere to do that (despite two reasonable ,and at the time, empty lounges plus a bar !). We sat outside for a while until the receptionist came and said we could wait inside - a mention of ‘poor reviews’ was met with a shrug and “so what attitude”. However after 20 or so minutes she relented and allowed us to book in before the allotted time. Despite reviews bemoaning cleanliness, noise etc we found the room to be clean, plenty big enough and all the furniture matched (wardrobe, drawers, bedside cabinets and headboard). The bed was comfortable enough and the room airy due to easily opened windows. The room had a kettle and replenishment of tea/coffee was made on request. We did have an issue with our iron not working but it was resolved the same day as a replacement iron & board was left in our room . Due to Covid cleaners do not enter rooms to clean during duration of stay but leave bags on the doorstep for any rubbish collection or towel or linen replacement. Breakfast, if ordered, is also left outside and is like pre-paced airline fayre - box containing apple, fruit juice, muffin, croissant , yoghurt and granola bar - certainly not to everyone’s taste ! The bathroom was, again, clean and perfectly adequate with a bath/shower combination but mixer taps make temperature control more difficult, although there was always plenty of hot water. Two pieces of constructive criticism would be : perhaps include butter/margarine as croissants too dry and add an additional handrail to the wall as stepping out of the bath/shower is harder for some of us due to the height of the side of bath. The lift is also not the biggest or swiftest but as the building is quite old I expect when it was installed space was at a premium. Also it was strange that the rooms had no phones so contacting reception had to be face to face. However we would have no qualms about staying here again.
Andy (8/5): July 2021 - I enjoyed the facilities at the New Westcliff Hotel. It was great to have an hour use of the swimming pool all to myself. There is a jacuzzi and sauna though I did not have time to use either. The reception staff are amiable, and I spoke to Mark on several occasions. He was pleasant, easy to approach, and helpful. There was plenty to do in Bournemouth and I took advantage of the hotel's central location. I would happily stay again. However, a single room is quite tight and lacks space. Not very much that can be done about the single rooms I presume, but it is a comment I would make that other hotels tend to have more rooms around the area of the bed and space to walk around. Thank you for the overall positive experience.
J3824RDchristines (4/5): Woefully understaffed and lazy kitchen staff - Room lovely and clean. FOH staff did their best though woefully understaffed. We booked a table for dinner at 7.15pm. By 9.00pm our food had still not arrived. The two guys in the kitchen could be seen hanging around, drinking tea. When the food did arrive, the children's burgers were ok but the two meals my husband and I ordered had half of the ingredients missing from the salad and the rocket was wilted from being under a heat lamp. When asked about the missing ingredients, the FOH had no explanation as to why we weren't informed so that we could have picked an alternative meal. We refused the meals and went to the chippy down the road instead
grahamhS3987BO (2/5): Booking on 12 June 2021 - I cancelled this booking 2 days later and found that they took the full cancellation cost,unbeknown to me.It was confirmed to me 3 days later.In view of fact that the holiday was for the middle of July2021 I consider this totally unjust.they have robbed an elderly couple of £565.00 for no work whatsoever.I offered some compensation but they refused.The owner P Hedges should be ashamed.
d0nb0t (2/5): Avoid at all costs - We are unable to visit this property as our 10 year old daughter has covid. This makes it illegal for the whole family to visit. Not only are the hotel refusing to refund any money they will not change to a new date. They have no consideration for the fact that going children have missed their first holiday in two years. They have taken over £1,500 from us!
D419NPdebbieh (2/5): Hotel stay - Had to cancel 5 rooms that we had booked for august for one night , due to a death in the family and also a family member in the same accident in hospital . We had done it with no free cancellation .however they were not helpful at all , no empathy , did not wa t to give any of the refund back and when we asked if we could just keep one of the room , they declined . Robbed me off 640 and still did not want t to help us , we did not expect this to happen to us but you would of thought they would of offered some alternative . Absolutely disgusting , hope nothing like this ever happens to them
35emae (8/5): A pleasant surprise - great location - Reading some of the reviews of this hotel I was half expecting to arrive at something resembling the Villa Bella from the only fools and horses Jolly boys outing but I was pleasantly surprised and shouldn't have been worried at all. yes the rooms are quite small and a little dated but are very clean and are supplied with towels and tea making facilities and have an Iron and ironing board in the room which was a nice touch. we booked 1 double and 1 twin room and both were perfectly adequate for a night or 2 (however the water pressure in the bathroom/shower may have been an issue if staying longer). beds are pretty comfy and we all had a great nights sleep. The lady on reception was lovely and very helpful. The swimming pool was great and we had it all to ourselves for an hour which was ace. Didn't use the jacuzzi as the water did look a bit green. Had a drink in the bar which was nice and they also have a comfy lounge area. Overall it was a great place to stay in a great location - I honestly don't know what half the reviewers of this hotel were expecting, of course you're not going to get the Ritz at the prices you pay for this hotel! would stay here again.
Wayne (2/5): Stay away. - Check in was the only neutral part of this experience. The room was a box, room 8. I could touch both walls with out stretching. the decor was old. This I can put up with. What I do object to is the state of the bed. This had a broken base, leaving a plank of wood across the bed as the only real support for the mattress.

Nilesh (8/5): Family weekend - All the communal areas are very well updated. However, the rooms leave a lot to be desired, shower was too small and dated, didn’t work properly. A family room was so small the bathroom door hit the beds. You have to use your bath towels for the pool which is not what it should be like. Extra pool towels should be provided. No towel or clothes hooks around the pool, sauna or spa area, apart from in the changing rooms. Only one hand held shower by the spa, so overall not a great experience. Staff very friendly though.
Camper42015803938 (2/5): The worse experience ever/ NOT COVID SAFE HOTEL - The worse hotel I been so far. We took few days off as it was my birthday and our wedding anniversary. The room was very dirty, missing staff. Then the shower did not function properly, struggling to have a shower as the water pressure was so bad. The only thing good about it was the reception staff. They move us in a different room. However, we found a empty cigaret box on the room, meaning that this room has not been cleaned properly. This hotel is NOT COVID SAFE at all. Actually, very risky and visible dirty. On my birthday day, I got out of my room and the housekeeper was shouting at us, unhappy that we complained about the dirty room. Very weird experience. I’m very disappointed about this. They offer no refund. If you choose to live, is at your cost. I’m leaving this review in order to help others to avoid such bad experience.
Verified traveler (6/5): Needs a little TLC - Hotel was fine but just a bit ‘tired’ - noisy/rattling extractor fan in bathroom; very hard bed and fairly flat pillows etc. If I was paying around £50 it’s be fine, but for over £160 I’d have expected a slightly better standard. Compared to Premier Inn or newer Travelodges it was much less comfortable. Staff were helpful; location was great - just the room itself that left a little to be desired.

The shared spaces in the hotel looked like they had been refurbished, except the bar which looked run down. Our room was horrendous, it smelled, the carpet was disgusting, there was rust and dirt all over the bathroom and hairs and skid marks in the toilet. Most of the spotlights didn’t work and the windows were filthy. Whilst putting clothes away we noticed old packets of milk and tea bags in one of the drawers. Truly the worst hotel experience ever- we packed our bags and didn’t stay.

penkange (8/5): Last minute stay. - I had read some bad reviews after booking, but it was a lot better than expected...The hotel is ideally placed for the beach and town, although everything is down hill, and uphill coming back. The staff were all friendly, and advised you could park in the street rather than pay the £10 a day on the hotel carpark. Breakfast..!!!!DON'T BOOK IT!!!! SEE MY PHOTO.. A breakfast box arrives outside your room at 7am.. Contents: muffin, satsuma, yogurt, oaty biscuit, orange juice costs about £3 but they charge £8+. I would just have liked a cup of tea..(but, they did their best due to Covid) but you can get bacon bap & tea on the beach and its lovely for around £5.00 We stayed in room 21, it was dated but clean, bed was comfy although a little squeaky, not may plugs in the room so I suggest you take an extension lead to plug in phone charger etc. We took a kettle as theres no tea making facility since Covid, but the water is horrible, so buy bottled... A decent hair dryer and iron/ironing board in the room, and a small TV, but only 1 chair. A small tube of shampoo, shower gel and a little soap in the ensuite. Towels provided but have pulls in them, but they did the job, and the lovely cleaner, forever smiling, swapped the towels, gave toilet rolls and rubbish bags etc, and she took the rubbish, if you left it outside your room. The Jacuzzi and pool is lovely, spotlessly clean, and we had exclusive use every day. You just pay £10 deposit for the key, which is paid straight back when you hand the key in. We used the bar most nights, until the 10pm curfew. All staff friendly. Visit the Hop Inn for meals and drinks, lovelly management and staff. We would stay again if in the area.
happycouple247 (6/5): Not exactly the “new” westcliff - Good location - about 10 minute walk from the beach front/town. Room was basic however functional, the decor was very outdated. Stayed here for two nights in a room on the first floor, of which the main landing door which leads to the floor was right outside our room - on the first night, me and my partner were frustrated due to the main landing door slamming by inconsiderate other guests at a late time at night, which happened numerous times. Could also hear other guests talking in other rooms, where the walls were so thin. Felt like a B&B rather than a hotel. Shame the parking is an extra cost at £10 per night. Use of the pool and jaccuzi was a nice addition, however wouldn’t stay again due to the noise

R6141EXoliviam (8/5): Last minute stay - Me and my partner stayed here for one night which we booked very last minute. The room was a good size for 2 people. We had a goodnight sleep and also the beach and town was only a few minutes walk away. The downsides were that the walls were quite thin so you could hear people talking and when they went into the bathroom as the bathrooms have a loud fan. Also the water pressure in the shower was very poor. Parking being included would of been a bonus as it was £10 for 24 hours. Overall a good stay!
Daniel (6/5): Needs a refurb however basic and OK for 1 night - We stayed here for the night, was very basic, a little run down but sufficed is to get our heads down for the night. The shower was pitiful and took 20 mins to use as the water flow was terrible, It had a pics of material with velcro on it as a blind to stick it to the window and the downstairs bar looked like that of a working mans club. For £74 it’s pretty much what we expected in Bournemouth. Good for a quick overnight stay but wouldn’t book it for any longer.

grahamt512 (2/5): Me & mrs Thorpe - Booked 4 night stay with booking.com with a continental breakfast £8.50 p.p a day received a email to say the breakfast would be delivered to our room in a box.I phoned the hotel asked what was in the box for breakfast— small carton orange, fruit orange or apple,muffin,yogurt I told them I didn’t want this.On arrival when collecting the keys told again to cancel the breakfast the next morning the breakfast boxes were delivered to our room I took them back to reception only to be told they could not be cancelled as they are preordered.All the goods in the box had sell by date for later this year or next year.The lift broke down during our stay and hinge on toilet door were loose making it difficult to open and shut

However on this visit half the hotel was closed for well needed renovation (no advance notice given), we were given a room which had bunk beds (not asked for), décor was in a bad way, there was yellow running water from the bath taps and we had neighbours who decided to party until the early hours meaning we got 4 hours sleep max. We did raise this with reception and didn't get as much as an apology. This is will be the last time we stay at the hotel, just because they didn't seem to care about our horrible experience !!

Head board made a lot of noise!... blinds in the window meant it each never really dark and the blew about in your breeze making a racket, lots of hairs on the floor other than that very clean and modern

This hotel is very old school with a superb lobby, massive TV with all your channels, a quiet pool and jacuzzi area and superb location. Both Eddy and the other gentlemen working at reception were a pleasure to see every day. However, there was a blonde lady - I think the hotel manager - who was not always as welcoming to questions and what not. Maybe we just caught her on bad days. Anyways, we will be back and recommending this!

Samir (2/5): Almost 1 hour to get inside the room - It was the worst hotel we have ever been in our entire life, we have checked In 20:00, 1st we have been told to pay £10 for the car park wile nothing mentioned on hotel’s website, after we went to the room on the third floor using a dangerous lift, but our surprise was when we tried to open the door, the magnet key didn’t work, so I went back to reception, the receptionist put it in the computer and gave it back to me, but again It didn’t work, imagine I went up to 3rd floor using the stairs and down to reception by the stairs 3 times, the third time the receptionist said that he will come with me to check it, he said said the battery was down, so he went back to get new batteries, but after 10 minutes of waiting I went to look for him, I found him serving beer for another guest in the bar, and then when I asked him that it’s 20:35 and we have been waiting from 20:00 he said he cannot do anything and that he is alone, he said that I can call his boss if I want to complain and ask why he left him alone on his fourth shift.
Julain (4/5): Warning - Add £10 to room prices for parking ! - OK, so the rooms are cheap, but the room we had was very small. Shower very small. Bed was awful, small, saggy, and creaked continuously. Slatted blinds hardly block out any light, so I was wide awake at dawn (6:00). Overall impression was definitely a bit "tired". The sting in the tail was the parking arrangements. Even though it was in the grounds of the hotel, this is managed by a completely independent parking company, who charge £10 for 24hrs. This is paid for by either downloading and using their 'app' or by phoning a non-local rate number. The app didn't work for our non-UK plate, and took ages to get through by phone. We spend the first 40 minutes after arrival just trying to pay the parking !!! Receptionist was friendly, but dismissive of my irritation regarding the parking - with a "nothing to do with us" attitude.

We were a family of 3 and given a tiny outdated room with an en-suite where you could reach the shower from the toilet it was that small! We did happen to see through an open door a much nicer family room with bright airy decor. Reception staff abrupt but under pressure as seemed to be only staff member working. Left me halfway through check-in to answer the phone for 5 minutes with no apology. Pool was ok but small but shower to be used after the spa was a garden hose so people were coming out of the sauna straight into the jacuzzi. Ok price wise I guess but annoyed we were put in such a tiny room facing a busy street. Owners seemed to waltz in partway through checkout with her dog and son and completely ignored guests despite a guy on reception trying to deal with check outs and enquiries. No wonder he was abrupt. Won’t be hurrying back!

Small Shower had plenty of hot water! Tea/Coffee making facilities were great but the Mug provided needed a better clean as it had tea stains in it (which came off when I gave it a wipe).
