- Lisa (6/5): - Great property in a central location. Breakfast was great and the receptionist was lovely and friendly and showed us a great map of the area. The rooms are basic, no shampoo so make sure you bring some. Pillows are paper thin and the bed wasn’t the comfiest. No air con so it got quite hot on our family room for 5. We enjoyed our stay but glad it was only for 1 night. Comfort wise. The hotel is very close to the town and walking to it is easy although no real pavements. Walking back is not so easy as it’s all uphill so no good for anyone with walking difficulties or wheelchair users.
- Christi (10/5): The best! - This was one of our favorite hotels! We tried to stay an additional night but it was fully booked. The view was spectacular. Breakfast was delicious. It was close to the center of town but far enough away that it felt private. The staff was incredibly helpful, the room was clean, and the shower was nice and hot.

It was raining one night and we didn't want to walk down town so we went to the restaurant. The food was really good and the bar was also great and accommodating. The entire experience exceeded my expectations.

- Percy (6/5): - Hotel offers 4 different breakfast options. Their breakfast options and plate sizes were the best on our Costa Rica trip. I had the 2 eggs, rice, beans, toast option breakfast and it was good. Good coffee too. Their onsite restaurant serves good pizza but we ate in downtown Monteverde and it was a good pizza place in the lane next to Orchid restaurant. Very close and walking distance to downtown. They arranged for our taxi rides on both days to the cloud forests. Monteverde is very windy so that kept us up at night.
- ion_dh (6/5): Average at best - Arrived 16:00 after a long, tiring drive. Nowhere to park at the hotel. Two people in front of me at check-in took the sole staff member 45 minutes to process. Then had to leave the car in another hotel down the road. Had to haul my bags up 20 steps (no ramps, lift, or assistance) to a supposedly “superior” room, which smelled damp and musty. No a/c, no heating. Staff could not provide a boxed breakfast (6 o’clock tour, 7 o’clock breakfast), and still wanted to charge me $2 for a (very small) sachet of coffee for the in-room coffee maker (“sorry, only one free sachet per stay”). Cheerful smiley staff with a deeply ingrained “computer says no” attitude. Best thing I can say about this place is that the wifi was adequate (though not up to streaming). It's incomprehensible to me why it's relatively highly rated (maybe alternatives are even worse?) -- iI certainly would not return here.

The room was clean and comfortable and the staff helpful . Our only issues with the hotel were the steep walk back up the hill from the town and the noise of the constant wind which disturbed us at night.

Only when we arrived at our next destination did we realize we’d misplaced an important personal item. Hotel Don Taco was able to locate the item and arranged for it to be couriered to our next destination!!! Thanks to the staff at Hotel Don Taco for their professional service! Also want to mention that we ate on site in their restaurant; delicious pizza, as well as local cuisine.
- kieronp2019 (8/5): Very helpful - This place was a cheap place to stay for two nights. The staff were really helpful and the rooms were clean. I did not feel comfortable leaving anything of value in the room and the door and windows didn't feel that secure. We booked three trips via the hotel and enjoyed each of them. The walk into town is downhill and quite steep on the way back, this is something to consider if you have mobility or fitness issues.

There was a good hot prepared breakfast with choice of 3-4 options and fresh juice. The receptionists Wanda and Zadieka were absolutely fabulous and incredibly helpful - do not let these young ladies leave your establishment, they are so hospitable, intelligent, knowledgable of the area and out-of-this-world helpful!!!

- Darren (10/5): Freindly Staff and Great Location - This was a great place to stay. All stay were warm welcoming and very helpful. Room was comfortable and clean. The location was slightly elevated over the town centre so offered some amazing views when the weather was clear and was a short walk into the town centre. Would certainly look to stay here if ever visiting Monteverde in the future.

- RAMESH (8/5): - Very nice and helpful staff, including at the front desk and the restaurant. The pancakes were excellent in the morning, and they helped me book some nice tours and guides. I would ask around about the coffee tour as the Don Juan tour was nice, but maybe there are some that are more plantations. The guide they set me up with in the Cloud Forest was great and the transport was convenient. The food was good but pricey. Also in Santa Elena many places won't let you flush your toilet paper, which I don't like but might be common there. Overall very nice stay and really nice people.

- june (10/5): - We had the superior room, which is it's own little building. It was absolutely adorable and beautiful. We could not have been happier. Breakfast was very nice. The staff were very helpful. One afternoon we had no plans, and Tom provided us with great suggestions. We loved it!

The layout is great with a lovely inner courtyard, a wonderful breakfast area and a nice, large balcony with rocking chairs where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful view. The staff was very friendly, helpful and made our stay at Don Taco a memorable one. If we ever come back to Monteverde, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again Gracias!
- George (6/5): - Not too far from MonteVerde, which was the hook for us in staying here. This place was a short walk from town (albeit a steep one) with a bunch of shops, cafes, sodas, restaurants within walking distance. The rooms had variations of balconies to sit and enjoy the outdoors. But the view is just ok and because town is just down the hill there’s lots of ruckus from motorcycles revving up and down the roads. The rooms have no AC nor a ceiling fan. We were concerned it’d be too hot at night but pleasantly surprised how nicely cool it was. Nice little on site pub, and restaurant. For what it is, we were quite content with our stay.

There is some road noise from the back street (motorcycles, dogs) on the upper level of don Taco but the cabins at Don Taco were great as was the room at Mar Inn (the connecting hotel next door, same owner) The staff could not have been better. We hope to return.

- Siddharth (10/5): - Hotel Don Taco is excellent hotel for the price in Monteverde. Walkable to marketplace, close to all parks. The staff were super friendly. The main highlight was breakfast and the view that we get from the hotel . The view is breathtaking. The breakfast is fresh and delicious with lots of options. My kids loved the two dogs they have who are super friendly. The rooms are ok type with less ameneties. When its windy, it makes lots of noise because of trees nearby.

The staff, particularly Thomas and those at breakfast, were great and they assisted us with excursions and transportation. During our stay, the wind was pretty extreme but our cabin was safe. It was also very clean and very spacious, and breakfast was good too. Would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful rooms, comfortable beds, spacious bathroom, excellent service, very helpful front desk staff. They were able to sign us up for so many experiences and they all knew English. It was an easy walk to get into town and find amazing restaurants and cafes. The coffee in town is amazing! I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Monteverde.

- Chandra (10/5): - Located on the road heading down into Santa Elena, the hotel is a great place to stay. There is minimal parking right by the hotel with maybe 3-4 spots but they have more parking just up the road. We stayed in a family room and it was the perfect room for us. It's older and dated but clean. the included breakfast was decent as well. Our biggest complaints were there was no shampoo and we asked for more we got an extra bar of soap. The road beside the hotel gets loud with traffic shortly after 6 so if you aren't an early riser this would be an issue.

- Linda (6/5): - For the price we paid the roo was OK. But, the restaurant was closed the day we arrived and we were only staying on day.
- Nicole (6/5): - She was kind and offered good information, but it was awkward when Zulika shared her daily wage with us at check in. Alnerto at the bar was very friendly and returned a bag to our room that was left behind. The breakfast staff was efficient, but the food itself was not great and exceptionally small portions in comparison to other hotels in Costa Rica. There was no mirror in the bathroom, but the shower was warm. The bed felt like sleeping on rocks, and the pillows were "well used". Although they cant control the wind, our room felt as though the tree limbs outside were going to shatter the 3 walls of windows. The location was fine, it was clean, but I would say it was like camping with a roof and shower.

- Leelamma (2/5): paul john - first thing receptionist was not friendly . didnt explain everything . breakfast time they said 6.30 to 8.30 . but they opened breakfast room at 6.45 . no body came to take order . they took the order and serve to people came after us . when we question them they said they have to take care of the group first eventhough we were there first .we told them we will be late for the tour pickup . still the server did not do anything .we mention it to the receptionist . she said its out of my control . so we did not get any breakfast ' they are very rude . not friendly at all . room was not clean . no table or chair in the room . no hot water for the wash room . we never had a bad experience like this in our life . i will no recommend that hotel to anybody . .
- Karen (8/5): - Overall sweet spot close to downtown with great views across to bay. January is very windy and we had one of two rooms with slatted glass windows = very drafty. Ran out of hot water by 9am! Good breakfast at restaurant (also serves lunch and dinner). Nice coffee shop/bar on site.
- marylou (10/5): - The location was great! Walking distance to anything you need downtown (as long as you are good walking back up hill!). The room had a nice view of the town and region beyond, they served a great breakfast each morning, nice little bar, and lovable resident dogs were the highlight.

- Lisa (10/5): Highly recommended! - Very close to the park, 5 min walk to town, 2 min from the bus station, excellent food comfortable rooms. Very helpful for taxis and bookings.
