Guest Reviews
- Xingran (10/5): - good.
- Jennifer (8/5): - Place was very spacious and clean - 2 bedrooms, living room, and kitchen. Decor is very dated, but that's ok. Building is actually an apartment building where most places have families living there - it's a bit strange, but not necessarily a problem. No amenities or hotel service since it's not really a hotel. Worked out great for us.
- NIPA (8/5): - Overall it was so so.
- David (2/5): Smelly cat haven! - It was a nice place but the smell of cats was soooo bad! I had to stay in the bedroom where it was a bit more tolerable. No one should have to stay in a place that smells sooooo bad! There might as well have been 10 litter boxes around! Very disgusting and disappointed!

- Verified traveler (8/5): - Older building, very warm inside not sure thermostat stat working well. Check-in is not at same place as rooms. People should know this ahead of time. Tiny market n post office located on main floor. Beautiful view
- Edward (4/5): - Whittier itself was closing for the season
- William (10/5): - We loved the history of the building...the view was awesome!..We ate our meals in front of the picture window. Couldn't get enough of the view from the condo.
- Celine (6/5): - Unexpected location (top of only building- check the history of the building on the first floor). Very basic and dated but Nice view though. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Pxha9T-eScc
Went kayaking by the glaciers - incredible day. Go to the inn for dinner and anchor inn for breakfast.
- Joseph (8/5): - The room was a flashback to the 1950's. The town is a one of a kind. very unique and well worth seeing. It will let all know of the monumental advances we all enjoy today! Scenery was amazing. Very worthwhile.
- Ernest (8/5): Satisfied - Was good for our needs.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good accommodations for half the cost - This was an expensive stay and the accommodations did not reflect that. Had it been half the cost, it would have been reasonable. However, for the cost, I would not expect to have to choose between water temperature and water pressure (do you want water pressure or a hot shower??) peeling paint, or need to take a lamp from one bedroom because there was no working light in the other. I’m addition I was a little annoyed to get a call because they were insisting on trying to key in my credit card prior to our arrival and having a chip, the card was declined (worked fine when it was properly run through the machine). I guess they knew the options in Whittier were limited so they decided to cash in on it.
- Debra (6/5): Three night stay in August of 22 - Great view! GPS took us to the condo but we had to go to another location to sign in and get the key. Ceiling fan over dining room is filthy, the only lamp in the living room needs replacing, and there was no heat as it was damp and cool outside! The bed was comfortable and the view was great!
- Terrance (6/5): - It smelled musty and very outdated.
- Kimberly (10/5): - Rooms were clean and close to everything in town
- BLANCA (10/5): - Excelente, la ubicacion es perfecta, llena de paisajes hermosos, esta en un pueblo pequeño, pero muy accesible para caminatas y para poder tomar un tour para conocer glaciares y ver animalitos en su habitad
- Ann (10/5): - The view is incredible. Looking out the window makes you forget the negative. Parking is the biggest negative
- Anfisa (10/5): - View
- John (6/5): - Amazing views over the harbor and mountains! The condo could use some updating, it’s very 1960s. Check in was super easy although how to get into the building with luggage was not.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Worst experience ever - We left after 30 minutes
The advertisement on Hotels was deceptive and untrue
The condo was not kept up
It did not have amenities it advertised
It was dirty and old
We tried to get a refund but the managing entity a hotel was no help.
- Patricia (2/5): - Canceled reservation 40 mins before our arrival. States that Expedia overbooked.
- Simon (4/5): Stalin would have loved it! - The hotel is on the 14th floor of the Begich Tower which looks looks an apartment building in North Korea. I was half expecting to see a portrait of Kim Jong-Un hanging in the lobby. The room was huge with a great view but the decor was what one might have encountered at a hotel in Moscow circa 1964. The furnishings appear to have been purchased at a flea market decades ago. The toilet bowl was badly cracked and the seat was big enough only for Munchkins. The place had the charm of an Orwellian ministry.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Bear on the loose! - The view from the windows is awesome. The rooms we big and clean. The bathroom is very small with no place to put any bath toiletries. The kitchen needs to be remodeled. It’s the worst part of the room. The highlight of the stay was the brown bear we saw wondering around the condo very early in the morning.
- kelly (4/5): Failure - Smelled, outdated, so many item were broke or just didn’t work or not sanitary at all, cheap items as well as not stocked with standard things. I wish I had taken pics of this place. I wouldn’t recommend it!
- Christopher (6/5): - Eclectic and dated furnishings. Nice to have 2 bedrooms. In building most of Whittier residents live in as well. But clean and nice views. Also almost only game in town.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Tunnel entrance by car or the Alaskan railroad. - Our condo was on the 14th floor of the only building that houses all the residents of this small but friendly town. It rained all three days we were in town for the 26 Glacier boat tour.
Make sure you bring your waterproof boots and rain jacket.
We had to check in at the Anchor Inn restaurant down the street to pick up our keys. Be sure to check out the history of the town and visit the museum next door. It was very interesting.
We had a good time.
- David (6/5): - Love the coew and the spa e. Would recommend having the kitchen set up with more dishes, paper towels and utensils
- Chintan (6/5): - Kitchen equipment was not clean or very few.
- Soopeen (6/5): - it was spacious but that was about the only positive
the unit needs some better upkeep
there is a musty/sour smell in the bathroom and bedroom
the blinds in the bedroom are not working properly and was extremely dusty. one of the chairs in the living room was broken but luckily we did not hurt ourselves while sitting in it.
for the price we paid for 2 nights almost $450 I felt it was not good value compared to other places we stayed in Alaska on this trip
unfortunately lodging in Whittier is very limited and since it was last minute decision to go there for our Alaskan trip we didn't have any options as Whittier Inn was booked up
would not stay here again if we return
- Graham (4/5): - From our stay here we were left pretty disappointed. The internet in the room didn't work and we called the office to try to get it fixed for us. They said they were going to send someone over shortly and no one ever came. The food as the restaurant was part, but nothing special. Our room had a small kitchen in it however, the only silverware it has was one spoon and one knife. For these reasons combined is why I have rated this hotel as a disappointing experience. To be fair the view we had looking over the pier was very pretty and it seemed like they were staying on top of the disinfection of the high traffic areas.
- john (10/5): - Very old building. It looks like they are upgrading a bit at a time. Absolutely beautiful scenery!!!
- maricela (8/5): - The property is very spacious and clean
- Donald (8/5): - Great place to stay!
- Laurie A (8/5): Small town livin' - The accommodations have been updated some but still reflects the history of the building and it military useage. Apartment was quite an the waterfalls lulled us to sleep at night.
- Andrea (8/5): Fabulous views!! - Views are fabulous. The condo was clean - alittle outdated but good.
- Shinsuke (10/5): - The room ha special views , snow covered mountains , bay water, ferry port. Also rooms were spacey with daily utensils.
Front reception desk I is located at about 500 yard south in a diner restaurant and bar. They are friendly and so kind to give us a ride next day to the ferry port in Whittier.
- Fred (8/5): - The condos were spacious and the views incredible. I was there just before busy season took off and so not a lot going on—which is fine by me—and I am thankful for the perfect room in the 14th floor to film and photograph. It’s an older building and unit, without a lot of pots/pans/silverware/etc, but I did not care as the beauty of the location and people override any basic needs I would usually expect. I highly recommend staying here … and saying hello to the reindeer across the street.
- Erin (8/5): - Nice view ,quiet ,spacious. Would stay again.
- Christopher (8/5): - It’s an old military building. If you grew up in Base Housing you will be amused at the memories it brings back.
- Yingqi (10/5): - A great deal if you have to stay at Whittier. Essentially 2 bedroom condo. Room look clean. Windows look a little old but it’s ok
- Holly (10/5): - It was cold outside but much too warm inside. Could not really control the temp and had all the windows up that would raise. Loved that our car was dug out of the snow for us before time to leave. Overall, a great stay
- Jantje (10/5): - Pet friendly and in perfect location! Also environmentally friendly and have coffee available all day!
- Jantje (10/5): - The view was spectacular!! The condo is nice and spacious and the people were very friendly!
- Robert (10/5): - Affordable, Friendly and AMAZING views.
- cizanar (10/5): - We enjoyed this apartment really nice view was clean, and very spacious,
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very good!
- Michael (6/5): - Pretty Sketchy area. Lock up your car, and for gods sake, don’t leave valuables in your vehicle.
- Lining (10/5): - Very good view
- Sean (8/5): Decent hotel with limited options in a small town - The hotel itself was fine. Since the whole town basically lives under one roof, you are sharing the place with residents. However, the cleanliness of the room itself was suspect. The sheets/pillows had hairs on them, and the water in the pipes came out as brown.
Upon check-in, the people working at the hotel told us we had to go to another location down the street to get our room key. This was never mentioned in any instructions.
Other than that, the stay was comfortable. But I wouldn't choose to stay here again.
- Liisa (8/5): - Older property with great historic value, bed was comfy, but had a very windy night so heard it whistling and didn’t sleep well- no fault of the facility! End of tourist season in that town so not many options for breakfast nearby.
- Jian (10/5): - Tallest building in the town, full kitchen, large room with a large window of glacier view
- Holly (6/5): - Great location and price. Certainly served our needs for an overnight stay.
- TON HIEN (10/5): - Everything ok.
- Thomas (10/5): - Our suites were clean and adequately furnished. It was odd doing check in a few blocks away, but it worked. Parking is , again, puzzling, but it worked. I would stay there again. Interestingly, the Anchor Inn, where you check in, seems to be the sole provider of breakfast for the town. At least, as far as we could tell. And, bonus, it was great! Plus, we had a bear visit the area and sit in the back end of a pick up just below our window seat. Pretty entertaining.
- Blair (8/5): - .
- BRET (8/5): - It’s Whittier need I say more. Going to the bar to check in was unusual. The guy giving me the keys was looking for a tip before we even saw the condo which added deeply to the ambiance. Property was clean and had hot water. If you’re looking for a retro place to stay I’m fairly certain the last remodel was in the late 60’s besides the new tv. The view however is absolutely stunning from this unit.
- elizabeth t (10/5): - ABSOLUTELY the perfect place for our stay. HUGE, with two bedrooms. HUGE tv. The beds were fantastic. The only "off-putting" was the decor was out of date. BUt we were fishing, and doing the tourist thing, so who cares if the lamp was from the 1970s.
- Barbara (10/5): - Whittier is an amazing place, staying here was epic! Very clean, super roomy. We all hated to have to leave. Saw a bear out the window. Hiked up by the waterfall, kids and all. Love Whittier even mord, Thank you!!!!!!
- Barbara (8/5): - Clean and comfortable. The check-in location details are incorrect. This makes it difficult to access the room.
- Dick (2/5): - We never stayed at this location at the time noted. This reservation was cancelled last March thru a poorly constructed cancellation procedure utilizing Travelocity's on line chat help. I will not be responsible for the payment indicated on the credit card.
- Dick (2/5): - The reservation was cancelled and we were still charged on the credit card. Follow-up conversation with the management indicated the charges would be dropped, however, we were still charged.
- Rebecca (8/5): - I enjoyed the view
- Verified traveler (8/5): - waterfall right behind, big apartment. big windows to see, quiet building. reindeer across the street! elevators make it easy to unload, great views! worth it to get ocean view room.
- YUJI (6/5): - The room has great view. But the used towels remained at bed side. Also stencils and dishes are short number. P
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved the view, the space is great for a family to sprawl out in. It is very clean and has everything you need. I love the history of the building!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The view was breath-taking as we were on the 14th floor. The place is clean, although furniture and house wares were very dated. All in all, we enjoyed this visit. Very peaceful and that view.... :D
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely view and nice condo for a night
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It was not as advertised. We were sold with ocean view and clean amenities! But, it was not as it described.
Check-in was at a sketchy bar! The bar was sitting on a parking lot, couldn’t find any sign. There was The bartender or waitress checked us in! She told us not far from the bar, we drove further and it was a parking lot next to the boats. We drove to The front entrance of the building and behind the building, both there were no signs for “Glacier View Condo Suites” there were a school playground behind the building and more parking lots.
It didn’t have any no sign for the property. With this eerily feeling, We finally found a door to the building. Still no sign, but found a mailroom and saw the the hallway was dark with yellow lights, the carpet was old, and very dirty. Still no sign at all. We paid $246.75 a night to a very unwelcoming bar/ condo room?! It felt like a housing project in Chicago. It was so horrible we couldn’t helped and ran out the building. Didn’t feel safe enough to have our kids in the building. We decided to drive back to the bar and ask for the refund. the waitress said” what’s wrong with the room?” she refused to refund because it was booked from Expedia. She said, refund will be Made from Expedia.
Neither the condo and Expedia should reject a refund due to the false advertising. We will go further and get our refund.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Appreciated that there was an air conditioner! Very few amenities. Sparsely furnished. Spacious, but not comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - the view
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The view from our window was great, though most of the town is a working shipyard and railway transport hub so there was much of that everywhere you looked. The suite was very roomy and the linens were nice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Liked the view.
Did not like the toilet flush valve leaking with every flush. Had to keep cleaning up the water with the paper towels we had to buy. Left a note about the problem. Nothing done.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I wouldn’t stay again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really good property with Kitchen, but the best part was the excellent gorgeous views from the condo. The condo had a huge glass window in the living room, and you could just sit for hours watching the waterfront, and the clouds moving in over the mountains. We could also see a reindeer in a fenced area down below. Walking distance to a couple of restaurants and the cruise pickup location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Top floor
Very spacious
Safe walkable are
- Robert (8/5): - Accommodations were OK parking was a real bad problem
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great view
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Everything is good except the parking situation. Parking is not close to the entrance of the building and in an unpaved area.
- Stephanie (8/5): Alaska 2021 - This is old military apartments and hotel is only on level 14 & 15. Pretty much entire town lives in this building. Very dated. Couch very uncomfortable and needs better darkness curtains. No pictures or decor on walls. Pretty much paying for location and view.
- Tom (4/5): - Very old and outdated. Did not feel safe. Would not recommend for family or children
- Theodore (10/5): Wonderful stay - Enjoyed my stay in Whittier. The condo was clean ,spacious with awesome views of the Sound and the surrounding mountains. Would recommend highly
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The place is a good stop, is basic but is a warm, efficient, clean and has good beds
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The suite was huge, very much like an apartment, but from the 70s. The check-in location was different than the hotel location, which is the building where almost the entire town lives. Parking is a bit further away too, which makes logistics a bit challenging. Other than that, we slept well, the place was quiet, and the view from our room was great.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - View was spectacular. Other things...not my favorite..
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This property is probably the worst hotel / condo I have ever rented. Dirty dishes under the furniture , broken blinds , coffee pot left on and burning, leftovers left in fridge. I’ve traveled all over the world and in quite a few third world countries and these condos and Whittier as a whole rank high in the list of terrible places to visit. Don’t stay at these condos and skip Whittier all together.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The view from the room is great.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved the view and how spacious the condo units are.
We didn't like the way the reindeer was kept in a small, muddy paddock
- Roger (10/5): Whittier condo - The condo was nice. Two comfortable beds nice living room and tv. Enough plates for everyone in our party. Check in was odd at first but overall was fine. Might want to include that check in at Anchor Inn would have been helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Full size 1 bedroom apartment. Beautiful waterfalls just behind complex can be viewed from window and they are just a short easy hike away. Town and water front are an easy walk using the pedestrian tunnel. Lots of interesting history. Complex even has a small store located on 1st floor.
- Natalie (6/5): Enjoy the views - Quite the experience, don’t expect frills just enjoy the view. Don’t forget to check in down the hill at The Anchor Inn bar, second floor.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The room is very clean and spacious.
- Verified traveler (10/5): The building you want to experience - It is the “building” you absolutely want to stay once a lifetime, it is the 14th floor with an amazing view of the harbor, glacier and the entire city.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Perhaps didn’t do enough research to knpw to bring food and Bev from outside Whittier. Accustomed to having silverware, Kleenex , ice, salt and pepper etc and appropriate dishware in a rental…place was very clean and view was a 10.
- DOUGLAS (6/5): Slim pickings in Whittier - To be clear, there are very few options in Whittier. We chose this property, well aware that there were few options and likely none better.
The building was built in the 1960s or 1950s, and the room has likely not undergone any changes since, nor it seems has the building. So it is pretty marginal. The pluses are that the views from the rooms (which are on the top two floors of the 15-story building) are spectacular, and that it was convenient for us to stay in Whittier the night before our 26Glacier Cruise.
So it did the trick for what we needed and wanted -- nothing more.
We would stay in Whittier again, only if convenient to accomodate a cruise, and if we did we would likely try another property (though based on what we saw we would not expect it to be any better.)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The view is great! So happy with this choice however, property a little outdated but itherwise
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great views from our room on 14th floor.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This definitely didn’t compare to the other places we’ve stayed for $250/night in Alaska. The staff was very friendly, however we had to check in a few blocks away. The accommodations were old, outdated by 4 decades, and had a total of 9 pieces of silverware for a condo that boasts sleeping 6. There was no bedding for the futons or cots, so I had to strip the blankets off my bed to share with my kids. On the plus side, the view beyond the shipping containers was beautiful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Parking was on mud
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A
- Joni (6/5): - It was very old but clean. There are not many options in Whittier so this our only choice.
Odd check inn at a bar a few blocks away
You enter the building through the loading dock. It really is a condo complex for the locals. But served our purpose , beds were comfy very small bathroom. Don’t expect new and fresh but basic and clean.
