Clean and well appointed. Some staff in restaurant were pretty slow to attend to you. But that’s about all that was wrong.
- Елина (10/5): An absolutely wonderful stay – beyond our expectations! - Due to cancelled flights we had to unexpectedly extend our stay in Zanzibar, and choosing Spice Island Hotel turned out to be the best decision we could have made. Before arriving here we had stayed in two other hotels on the island, but this one was truly exceptional. Everything about the place exceeded our expectations. The rooms are beautiful, spacious and luxurious, and the cleanliness is at a true European standard. The atmosphere is peaceful, elegant and very welcoming. What impressed us the most, however, was the incredible hospitality. Everyone – from the staff to the owners – was extremely kind, attentive and genuinely caring. We were travelling as a family with our 4-year-old daughter and felt completely comfortable. The pool is wonderful, the food is delicious and diverse, and the whole place has such a warm and relaxing feeling. We arrived quite stressed because of the cancelled flights and the uncertainty about our trip, but staying here made us feel calm and truly at home. A very special thank you to Tatyana and her wonderful family for their kindness, care and hospitality. They made our unexpected extra days in Zanzibar truly special. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Zanzibar and we would absolutely love to come back again.
- Michael (9/5): - Sehr schöne Anlage mit tollen Pool und liebevoll gepflegtem Garten. Sehr nettes Management. War alles bestens, die Frühstücksauswahl hätte vielleicht etwas umfangreicher sein können.
- Eva (10/5): Ett litet paradis - En grön oas med fantastisk pool. Rummen är rymliga och vackert inredda med sköna sängar. Restaurangen serverar frukost, lunch och middag med en bra variation av rätter. Man har allt man behöver för en avkopplande semester.
- Kerim (1/5): Katastrophal, nie wieder!!! - Unser Aufenthalt in diesem Hotel war leider in vielen Bereichen enttäuschend und entsprach aus unserer Sicht keinesfalls dem erwarteten Standard. Bereits das erste Zimmer war massiv von Kakerlaken betroffen. Trotz täglicher Beschwerden an der Rezeption wurden wir erst nach vier Tagen in ein anderes Zimmer verlegt. Im zweiten Zimmer funktionierte das Warmwasser während des Aufenthalts nicht zuverlässig – obwohl wir das Problem mehrfach gemeldet haben. Ein besonders unangenehmer Vorfall war, dass uns beim Abendessen Suppe mit Ameisen serviert wurde. Das stellt aus unserer Sicht ein klares Hygieneproblem dar. Auch das Frühstück war problematisch: Obwohl es offiziell bis 10 Uhr angeboten wird, waren bereits gegen 9:30 Uhr regelmäßig zentrale Bestandteile wie Croissants, Gebäck oder Avocado vergriffen. Zudem war das Buffet offen zugänglich für Vögel und ständig von Fliegen und Wespen umgeben. Für uns – insbesondere aufgrund einer Allergie – war das sehr belastend. Der Service im Restaurant war häufig unkoordiniert. Bestellungen wurden falsch aufgenommen oder verzögert gebracht, Wartezeiten selbst bei einfachen Dingen waren ungewöhnlich lang. Darüber hinaus fanden während unseres einwöchigen Aufenthalts kaum Abendprogramme statt, und ein Fitnesscenter war nicht vorhanden. Insgesamt entstand für uns der Eindruck, dass grundlegende organisatorische und hygienische Standards nicht zuverlässig eingehalten wurden.

- David (9/5): - The resort is very beautiful and well maintained. The gardens, the pool, the restaurant are very clean and tidy. The spa treatment my wife had was very good and they went above and beyond for our honeymoon with the decoration, free prosecco, room selection and the heart cookies they baked. The jetty bar was lovely and wifi reached pretty much everywhere. If you want somewhere quiet it's perfect. The breakfast was nice and the chefs were skilled. The restaurant menu was too small, we barely ended up eating there as there were only three options, one which was vegetarian and it was almost always pasta. The food was also a little too expensive, although all of Zanzibar is. The resort was very quiet, which for us was a negative thing. We expected some live music, or some BBQ or social scene of which there was none. The resort was also incredibly windy all the time, it is next to Paje which is a famous kite surfing spot so this is constant. If we had known we probably wouldn't have chosen it. That being said it did keep us cool when sunbathing in the day. The curtain rails weren't attached so every time we used the curtains they fell off the wall which was frustrating and somehow every time we went in our room there was 10+ mosquitos, although they would spray for the at the end of the day and they didn't bite much. Small things really but worth mentioning.

Il direttore della struttura è italiano ed è una persona davvero molto accogliente e gradevole. La posizione, un po' lontana dai punti più interessanti dell'isola e la mancanza di servizi di intrattentimento.

- Kirsten (8/5): A relaxing & pleasant stay - A lovely resort with spacious rooms, lush vegetation & relaxing easy vibes. The pool was refreshing with lots of loungers spread around or near the pool. I particularly enjoyed the Jetti bar which had a fantastic view of the sea. The food at the restaurant was good. I enjoyed the salads particularly. Breakfast was good too with a set menu to pick from. I appreciated that the chef was willing to adjust breakfast requests for dietary needs and preferences. I mentioned to my server how much i loved mango, and each morning a little plate of sliced mango appeared. The cushions on the lounge chairs were thin and not comfortable (especially the lounge chairs facing the sea). My room was spacious, though initially had a strange sewage smell. Once I had run the air conditioner for a while, that smell lessened & was tolerable. I wish there was more consistent pool service, i would have enjoyed the delicious ice tea more often if staff managed that service a bit more effectively. The beach is below the resort, just a few steps down but in many ways it didn’t feel like a beach holiday but a pool holiday. There are lots of locals selling their handicrafts, i found them friendly and not too intrusive but it was still annoying when strolling the beach with constant interruption. Minor issues for me, I immensely enjoyed the resort after a busy week long safari in a Tanzania

De kamers zijn ruim, uitzonderlijk proper en uitgerust met alle comfort. ’s Avonds wordt de kamer slaapklaar gemaakt, inclusief muggennet en product tegen muggen – een fijne extra. Het ontbijt is uitgebreid en goed. Tip: vervang de doorzichtige gordijnen zodat het ‘s morgens langer donker blijft in de kamer.

Het uitzicht vanuit het barretje aan het einde van de lange pier waar je van de laatste zonnestralen kunt genieten. De zon gaat niet onder in de zee maar aan de westkant op de land. Het is een fijne, veilige plek voor een relaxt verblijf!

Poolen blev rengjort hver morgen. 2 gange om dagen blev mit værelse ordnet. Personalet er utrolig hjælpsomme og meget søde. Og der var vagter hele døgnet! Det betød virkelig meget for mig og jeg følte mig tryg hver aften når jeg skulle sove. Jeg ville gerne have haft massage, men desværre var massøren syg de 5 dage jeg var der :(

- Carolin (10/5): Traumhaftes Hotel in Top-Lage - Tolle Hotelanlage! Alles ist sehr gepflegt und sauber. Die Zimmer sing großzügig. In der Umgebung kann man viel unternehmen (z.B. Tauchen). Sehr freundliche und hilfsbereite Mitarbeiter. Gutes Restaurant. Ich habe mich rundum wohlgefühlt und kann das Hotel uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen.

The botanical gardens make everything pretty. It feels like a small paradise! Security is perfect, especially for a female solo traveller this was amazing. At the gate and and the beach good patrol and all personal is very friendly. Good food and cocktails. Would definetly recommend!! The bathroom in my cabin was not so luxery as the rest of the room and resort, but worked fine. The bed was a bit hard, but i had great nights of sleep!
- BRITS (10/5): Little piece of paradise - The beach front is a great space to relax and as its not directly on the beach feels very private with lots of sunloungers and a short walk down a few steps and you on the beach and in the ocean.The swimming pool is very big and lots of space for everyone with sun lounges and umbrellas.Food at the restaurant is good,we booked half board and breakfast and dinner were fantastic we never left feeling like more.There are a few other restaurants to try a short walk down the beach.The resort also has its own jetty with a bar at the end of the jetty that is great for sundowners.The restaurant staff,managers and reception were so friendly and nothing was to much for them.There are taxis/tuk tuks running all day on the main road behind the hotel that can take you to Paje or Jambiani.All in all a great stay and will defintely be back.
- Olivier (10/5): Ich hatte 6 wunderbare Tage, um nach der Safari in Arusha auszuspannen und mich richtig zu erholen. - Wunderschönes Resort mit wunderbaren Mitarbeitenden! Der riesige Pool, die bezaubernde Gartenanlage, die Bar draussen auf dem Steg waren wunderbar! Die Mahlzeiten waren gut, wenn auch die Auswahl eher knapp war. Ein absolutes Highlight waren die herausragenden Massagen von Glory im kleinen Spa. Ich hoffe sie bleibt noch lange da! Beim Frühstück war die Auswahl eher klein, für eine Woche aber ausreichend. Es gab immer genügend frische Früchte, und die 4 Eierspeisen zur Auswahl waren durchaus guter Qualität. Abendessen-Auswahl war auch nicht sehr gross, aber das war kein Problem, es gibt rundherum genügend andere Restaurants, um mal etwas Abwechslung zu finden. Leider gab es nach einem Unwetter Probleme durch herabfallende Deckenelemente im Restaurant, worauf dieses für 2 Tage in ein anderes Gebäude verschoben werden musste.

- Milena (10/5): Wunderschönes Hotel - Das Hotel hat unsere Erwartungen in jeder Hinsicht übertroffen. Der Pool ist wesentlich größer als in anderen Hotels und der Pier war einfach einmalig. Man hat dort auch Zugang ins Meer und einen wunderschönen Blick über den indischen Ozean. Die gesamte Anlage ist sehr gepflegt und der liebevoll angelegte Garten lädt zum Entspannen ein. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und stets hilfsbereit. Auch das Essen war ausgezeichnet, wir haben jedes Gericht genossen. Selbst an den zwei regnerischen Tagen konnten wir die Terrasse vor dem Zimmer genießen und dem Regen in Ruhe zuschauen. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder. Vielen Dank für die wunderbare Zeit! Průchod zadní části pozemku v noci je až strašidelný neboť vegetace je zanedbaná a v křoví vidíte trosky dvou zbouraných bungalovu Na cenovou úroveň hotelu byla snídaně nedostatečná. Něco mezi bufetem a a la Carte. Ovšem v bufetu zcela chyběly parky,maslo a vařená vejce,což bývá v této kategorii standard. Výběr pečiva malý. A la Carte 3 jídla omeleta nebo míchaná ,avokádo y toust a překvapení kuchaře. Toto jsem dvakrát zkusil a překvapil sám sebe. Jednou tři miniaturní lívance podruhé jogurt s muesli a medem. V této kategorii hotelu směšné. Obedovy jídelní lístek nedostatečný. Výběr ze 3 nebo 4 jídel. Vždy nějaké italské. Očekával bych svahilské. Protože jsem pronajaté auto nikdy jsem v hotelu nejedl V okolí do 2km je několik restaurací podávajících swahilskou kuchyni a mořské plody.

Vriendelijk, hulpvaardig personeel, eigen pier met bar en goede keuken. De gordijnen zijn te licht, waardoor je vroeg wakker wordt, warm water in douche was zeer beperkt. Locatie is wat afgelegen, waardoor je wel een taxi of tuktuk nodig hebt om je te verplaatsen, maar dit regelt de receptie voor je.

Die gesamte Anlage mit den tollen Pflanzen ist sehr gepflegt. Das Essen ist sehr gut und immer frisch. Die Bedienungen sind sehr freundlich. Die Bar auf dem Steg ist sensationell, mit tollen Cocktails und einmal auch mit DJ und cooler Musik, das ganze Resort war am Abtanzen. Coole Atmosphäre. Die Zimmer sind groß und alles funktioniert und sie sind sehr sauber. Zweimal am Tag wird das Zimmer gemacht. Gerade sind Renovierungsarbeiten in Gang. Wie überall in Jambiani gibt es viel Wind.

- Siseko (10/5): - I absolutely loved everything about the Spice Island Hotel. It is right in front of the beach and offers breathtaking views. Perfect place if you want tranquility and to recharge. For the first two days I didn't go anywhere. The staff is very friendly and made me feel at home. From the moment you arrive, you are welcomed with a glass of juice and dinner was great as well.

The restaurant is amazing, the breakfasts are epic, the rooms are modern and beautifully designed with comfy beds. The pool is uber clean and massive. The beach is the best and the onsite kite surfing school is amazing. Simon does a great job running the joint and we can’t wait to return to paradise. We had to leave 🥺 at the end.

- uwe (9/5): - Wir waren als Familie mit 2 Kindern in 2 Gartenbungalows und haben 2 Mal unsere Tage verlängert, obwohl wir auf Sansibar eigentlich weiter reisen wollten. Es ist die gute Mischung zwischen entspanntem Luxus in einem naturbelassen Resort, dem besonders großen und gepflegten Pool, den lächelndem Team und dem guten Essen. Mittags und Abends immer eine Überraschung wie lecker Tuna Steaks. Der Jetti ins Meer ist selten und abends hat man (nur) dort den längsten Sonnenuntergang + drinks dazu und staunt ganz nahe über die wahnsinnigen Kiter. Wir sind oft nach Paje gelaufen wegen Eisdielen und Strandleben, Pizza. Trotz Vollbuchung kam es uns nie voll vor. Wir suchen immer da beste aber naturnah (kein Boutique) mit dem besten Preis/Leistungsverhältnis. Nach der Safari kommen wir daher wieder her. Massage bei Glory ausprobieren! Die Zimmer sind neu gebaut und haben mehr Raum, als man braucht. Es könnten im Garten mehr Pflanzen beschriftet werden und vielleicht ein Spice Garten da sein. Beim Wassersport gibt es den gezeigten Cat nicht mehr

- Linda (10/5): F - Otroligt fin och prisvärd resort med fantastiskt poolområde och pool. Frukosten som ingick och beställdes al la cart, omelett, äggröra, stekta ägg, bacon, pannkakor, avokadotoast, yoghurt och fruktfat, var väskor gott. Buffébordet var också ok, med juice, kaffe, flingor och mjölk och kakor, bullar. Städning två gånger per dag och effektiva myggsprayer. Tog ca 30 min att gå på stranden in till Paje och sedan tog vi tuk-tuk hem för ca 5000 shilling. Fanns några bra restauranger närmare ut med stranden, bland annat en italienare. Fantastisk bar ute på piren som hör till hotellet där kvällsdrinken kunde intas i solnedgång. Hög och lågvatten påverkar badmöjligheten, bad på morgonen och sedan eftermiddag/kväll.

We loved the jetty bar to relax on top of the ocean and go for a swim while we enjoyed our drinks. Plenty of comfortable and beautiful shady spaces to lounge by the sea, and the pool was clean and cool. We had a wonderful stay! The only thing I would say is that the food was not very good, with the exception of barbecue night which was delicious. I would still very much recommend to stay here!
- Frani (8/5): - Upon arrival, I received a warm welcome from the staff (including men dressed in traditional Masai clothes). That was a nice touch. My room (23) had a garden view and was spacious with a poster bed, sofa and two bathrooms. It was clean and I especially appreciated the turndown service where staff prepare your room for the night and make sure it’s mosquito free. They have a big restaurant and their menu offers local dishes, as well as European and American food. I recommend the traditional fish stew. They also have a great selection of South African wines and very good cocktails (the Mango Cooler was my favourite). One some evenings they have themed buffets and on Saturday, we had a BBQ by the pool. The breakfast is wonderful- there’s continental, eggs, sausages and a variety of fresh fruits. There’s an amazing Jetty Bar that sits in the ocean. It’s a great place to chill, have a cocktail or two and eat a light lunch. I believe they have the biggest pool on the island- it really is impressive. They provide swimming towels and there are plenty of sun loungers and a hammock. The staff were amazing throughout. So smiley and always eager to help make sure you have the best time.

This allowed for swimming while the tide was out and walking on the beach early in the morning or at sunset. - Verified traveler (10/5): - For us, this property is the perfect blend of Africa and luxury. It still had a local feel, but with most of the amenities you want at a European/american resort. The rooms are nice and the staff are great. What makes this property unique, and why I would choose it again, is that it has a 100 metre long dock stretching out into the Indian Ocean. The landing at the dock's end sits over the water and allows for great views and more ocean breeze to quell the Zanzibar heat. The dock also provides adequate snorkeling underneath, perfect for families who don't want to venture to the reef, but still want to enjoy some amazing fish. The downside to Spice Island is the wi-fi. It is slow and does not always work. But, who goes to Zanzibar to look at the internet? Hakuna matata The food in the restaurant is good, not great. It is good enough to eat there every day, so you don't have to take a taxi out. Fine dining is available elsewhere, if you are a foodie. However, the wine list is pretty good! The owner owns his own vineyard, and knows how to get good wines from South Africa.

Unfortunately Jetty closed when we were there throughout stay and food/beverage choices extremely limited, poor quality and very expensive. Not much to do but to lounge around. The rudimentary butterfly park and forest nearby will keep you entertained a few hours while Stonetown/main city approx. 1 hrs drive away has much more to offer but requires a day-trip that the hotel will happily organize against a fee.

- Verified traveler (6/5): large hotel with a nice large pool - The hotel is a large with a nice large pool. It caters mainly for the German Tourist on their meal plan. The breakfast was good but their a la carte menu was not great. It is very limited and most of the food is covered in their sauces. We had better food and service at other restaurants. Very hard to swim from this part of the beach. There are rocks and compact sand with low tide. The stairs off the jetty are broken so we were unable to access the water. Jetty bar a nice spot for a drink when its not windy.
