Guest Reviews
- Thevar (8/5): Value for money. - The enviroment The food options . Not that great. Please give more options for breakfast
- Rosalind (8/5): -
- Yvett Klein (7/5): Hilltop hut overlooking Georgetown - Malihom is located in a relatively remote part in the south of the island. We stayed at the hill top which overlooked the entire Georgetown. The view was spectacular. Not many other guests during our stay so it was very quiet. The property was built about 20 years ago which means a lot of the facilities were aged. Hot water system was not stable, toilet flushing a bit weak, and our bed was old and was sinking a bit in the centre. Pillows too high. The cushions of the hammock and the lounge chairs needed proper cleaning.
- Aliff (10/5): - Best place for relax and honeymoon
- Jil (9/5): We had an unforgettable jungle experience with breathtaking views and a highly commendable team! -
- shereen (5/5): -
- Chloe (8/5): - Environment A lot mosquito
- Judi (6/5): So relaxing but comes with a down side - We stayed here ten years ago & came back because we loved it so much. It’s not easy to get to. The cab drivers nearly have a heart attack with such a steep switchback single road but that’s also part of its appeal. It’s an exceptionally pretty & very romantic place & where we chose to be for our 55th wedding anniversary. The staff were excellent & made our anniversary special. Breakfast is included & very nice but as you are a captive audience dinner needs to be ordered and catered for and it’s eye watering-ly expensive & not as nice as it was.
Good enough but not great
After staying in Georgetown where the food was so cheap & so delicious everywhere this was Meh!! It made us very sad to see the actual state of repair of the buildings. & surrounds (pool deck for eg) a lot of areas are just unsafe & could easily cause accidents
It’s as though minimal maintenance has happened over the intervening years
Don’t get me wrong as our room was like a little cocoon & we were incredibly comfy there. The beds great, the shower is good but some things just need lots of tlc & the place has deteriorated
Make sure if you stay that your outlook is over the town, not the sea as the view is spectacular
- Geri (9/5): Perfect nature getaway - An amazing place if you love being around nature. Perhaps some things are a bit outdated but we loved it nonetheless. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We tried to take a bath but there wasn't enough hot water to fill the bath so we ended up showering in cold water instead. There are a lot of insects attracted to the bathroom lights so there's a few that sneaked inside.
- Yves (9/5): - Emplacement exceptionnel sur un sommet. Jardin très beau aménagé avec bon goût. Piscine très agréable Lit trop court et moustiquaire encombrante

- Jayita (10/5): MAGICAL! - It’s like a fairyland, and my chalet had a splendid view of the sea. Everywhere on the property one can enjoy views of the forest, sunrise and sunset. The staff are superlative, and attentive without being intrusive, especially Akul and Tofazzel. Thank you guys, and a special apology to the guests I met on the way down in my car, but the kindly gentleman offered the perfect solution for me to back up and allow the others to proceed. Can’t say I didn’t like it; in fact, I greatly enjoyed the hike as I decided to leave my car at parking A but it’s a bit of a challenge to drive up the steep and narrow road with hair pin bends, but this adds to the beautiful locale. Again, this is probably very specific to me, but I sort of struggled with the shower and bathtub controls, but in the end managed to have my hot showers.
- Bee Yan (7/5): Nice view, misleading ads and extra cost somehow kill the whole excitement - The scenery 1) misleading details and price on booking site. I booked Khanun Chalet, on website photo gallery shown both king bed and single bed, description also the same. But when staff contact me, said the room only provide the kind bed, I must pay extra for the single bed.
- maria (7/5): Difficulty getting to the hotel BUT a memorable stay thanks to the view and staff. - The staff were excellent! They made our stay there memorable. Even when we were having trouble getting a taxi to take us up there and getting down especially when it started raining they kept us calm and helped in any way they could. We loved our room overlooking the pool and the bed was heavenly. The pool was as well. The views were breathtaking and we loved having the property almost all to ourselves! The hotel needs to organise a small buggy or vehicle to get guests to the top of the hill where thia beautiful hotel is located. Taxis make a big fuss and you may have to walk up with your luggage if the taxi refuses to take you up there. I also think the breakfast could be a little more impressive. Whatever we had was delicious and fresh but not mind blowing for the price paid.
- Gregor (10/5): An amazing jungle retreat away from any other facilities - Amazing views from a tree house. Gorgeous pool. Staff very friendly. Good communication prior to arriving to enable us to arrange hotel recommended taxi transport. This is more expensive than Grab but very few driver will tackle the winding road up to the top. The food was very nice but unless you take your own snacks, there is no real alternative (you really are blissfully cut off!). You really need to be agile to stay here and we were grateful that we didn’t come with very young children!
- Susan (10/5): Magical mountain-top retreat experience - Wonderful hilltop retreat. Beautiful accommodation in an amazing natural environment with views over Penang. We were the only ones there. The staff were absolutely perfect and so warm & kind.

- Ng (9/5): Highly recommend for those look for quiet serene place to unwind -
- Vikneswaran (10/5): Had a remarkable memories and wonderful experience with nature. The staffs are so good such a way serving great . - Very wise Environment and mind do relax
The mother of nature become healing to be calm
Healthy breakfast and feel of nice coffee None
- Campbell (9/5): Superb -
- Muhammad (9/5): I will definitely come again for my retreat and try another chalet. - The place is super nice. Out of the town noises and very peace. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Good to have a little options for dinner meals and not just the set. The food was good though but maybe with some other options will make it perfect.
- Etienne (10/5): Amazing stay. Excellent staffs. Beautiful spot. - Secluded spot away from city, the beautiful landscape and gardening. Clean terrace, pools, everything was spotless. Amazing view. What made the stay even more enjoyable were the attentive staffs. Hospitable top notch service from check in to departure. Special shout out to Hussain for making our stay even more pleasant (twice now). None. But a square shape mosquito net would be preferred to a triangle shape (current) one.
- Tasha (10/5): Exceptional - Good good good
- Frederic (8/5): Very good -
- Clement (8/5): Very good -
- India (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ken (8/5): Perfect escape from bustly Penang, within one hour drive you are in a different world! - Perfect escape from bustly Penang, within one hour drive you are in a different world!
- Shahrulasraf (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kok (10/5): Exceptional -
- May (10/5): Great, totally worth of money - The ambience was exceptional, everything maintained well Probably because the staffs are all foreign workers, of course we understand that it is a bit hard to hire local staffs at that rural area. But safety concerns, it is good or better to have at least 1 or 2 local staffs.
- Jet (9/5): Stunning - It’s just stunning and the bed is amazing
- Vahid (10/5): Exceptional - Thank you Tofazzel and Ashok who were the employees that made our stay so much enjoyable. Excellent service and amazing food!!
- Wai (9/5): Peaceful and quiet stay which match / exceed my expectation!! - Warm staffs, quiet place, really suitable for people wanted some time off from the city, good retreat spots for individual to recharge for daily life.
Good for couple or individual for meditation or alone time. Will definately come back for it. Good choices of rooms with different views and bed type. Love it! Like the hiking trail as well. Very refreshing. It will be superb if the room cleanliness is a bit better, due to the hotel been built for some times, understood that work to maintain the condition is tough, but, if a little more effort on it, the room will be perfect.
- Wendy (9/5): Tranquil and therapeutic - I prefer the breakfast with some meat The room no table.
The breakfast is vegetarian.
No coffee machine to make good latte
- Nur (10/5): Exceptional -
- Syamimie (7/5): Good -
- Yoges (9/5): Superb -
- Alice (9/5): Beautiful views, tranquil stay - We love coming to MaliHom, it’s so tranquil and the perfect escape in the jungle. The staff are always so welcoming and the rooms are lovely. The views never disappoints. The food is a little pricy so we always go to a more reasonable local restaurant nearby.
- Tan (9/5): Superb - Quiet getaway from the city. Really difficult location to get to 😅
- Alice (10/5): Exceptional - I liked everything about this resort. The staff provided excellent service, the meals were good, and the room was clean. I loved the cool weather—it was so refreshing. The view was great, and I felt so relaxed in this natural environment.
- Francesca (9/5): Incredible experience - Amazing expérience at Malihom
I went there with my sister and we really enjoyed the expérience! The staff was adorable, dinner really good same for breakfast. The location is stunning, we loved the swimming pool. It’s like being in a cabane in the jungle so you dont have to be affraid about insects or small animals Nothing, maybe just the road to come there, it was a bit laborious but once everything explained it’s ok
- Bawanis (7/5): Peaceful - Close to nature
A place where you can escape from hustle of city life and stay calm and relaxed
Their hospitality is good and all the staffs are very friendly Need to improve the cleanliness
The bathroom is place outside of hut and need go downstairs for shower - private bathroom but not convenient
- Kaaleswaaran (10/5): Exceptional -
- Diane (8/5): This was a beautiful, relaxing place to stay in a unique environment. The meals were delicious. - Malihom is a beautiful, relaxing hideaway in the lush green mountains on Penang. The swimming pool was relaxing and the huts felt like treehouses, unique and very peaceful. We had the dinners which were very tasty and always very ample. This is a minor concern but I booked because of the hammock, I loved the idea of spending time in the bamboo hammock at our own treehouse. The bamboo hammock had been removed and replaced with a rope hammock which was hung at an odd angle, it was very uncomfortable. Fortunately there was another hammock not too far away. It's also worth noting that in the hut we booked you had to go outside the hut and downstairs for a shower. It was a private shower, just not quite as convenient as it could have been.
- Allister (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful and Intimate resort, and the staffs goes above and beyond to make your stay a pleasant one.
This is the first time staying at a resort where the hotel will help you get some tasty durians fresh from the Balik Pulau Farm.
- Low (9/5): Superb - Green environment and weather Winding and small road
- Yuen (8/5): Very good -
- Qin (10/5): Exceptional - Everthing is perfect, definitely worth to stay here at least a week! Enjoy a whole log cabinet, which is amazing. You will never want to miss this fascinating place!! But notice you don't book from this plateform, caz they charge you the tourism tax but they didn't give to the hotel. So there is a double charge, maybe you should bool through Agoda or whatnot.
- Vishamini (8/5): Very good -
- Emily (9/5): We had a wonderful experience and look forward to coming back one day - So beautiful, the pictures do not to it justice! The view and accomodation was amazing. The staff are fantastic and so welcoming. The property is beautiful and clean with views on all sides.
- Tharvindren (1/5): Bad -
- Yau (8/5): Very good -
- Siow (7/5): Retreat - Love the view and fresh air there. The bed is very comfy. The retreat stay here is not offer truly worry free and relax. Not truly worth for money. Hope more improvement:
1. Only asked guest to prepare own food if not dine in. But not explain why and not inform in advance there is Grab food options.
2. Not inform in advance about the windy road and what's precautions step.
3. The reception I have is not really explain much, compare to others. Example, I found out from other guests about Grab food options and some history about MaliHom.
4. Observation tower and one observation deck are closed.
5. Getting guest to park at zone D which is some walking distance., During raining day, not standby or prepare umbrella for guests. Even we asked, the response is slow.
6. Toilet attach to room is too small, hand soap there is empty.
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (3/5): Dirty bathroom and old worn-out furniture - Location, views and pool. Run-down and dirty rooms. Shower looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months! Black hair (from previous guests) in shower drain. Old worn out furniture and torn chair pad.
Power outage at night meant that the AC and fan stopped working. Very hot and stuffy trying to sleep. AC struggled during the day. Very weak, old unit which started making high pitched noises after being on for a few hours. This place needs some serious upgrades considering the prices they are charging per night.
They also charge RM90+tax+service charge, per person, for dinner which you're basically forced to accept as there is no other food around unless you have a car to drive down to the bottom of the mountain. The food was OK but we've had equally good food from local cafes for one fifth of the price!
- Shirley (10/5): A perfect get away for rest, relaxation, beauty, peace and nature. - The location was just beautiful. High in the hills, peaceful and secluded. Beautiful views. Lovely pool and the plants and landscaping was gorgeous. The bungalow rooms were perfect and beautiful. Loved all the frosted coloured glass. Lots of different places to sit and relax. Loved everything
- Chris&yvi (10/5): Exceptional - 10 points all around. Super friendly staff. Perfect place to relax.
- Thomas (8/5): we had a great and strange stay at the same time. the whole place was empty ecept for us. however the food was great and - secluded, private estate in the middle of the jungle with great views and very friendly staff certain areas look strangely deserted: the lounge, the outside bar, the restaurant. we were the only guets which felt odd because its actually a really nice place.
- Chuan (9/5): Superb -
- Nadason (10/5): Exceptional -
- Saarumathy (6/5): Not a 3 star hotel..not worth for the money - The location and views are great Cleanliness should be really taken care..stained bedsheets..dirt around toilet..very old toilet bowl
- Noor (8/5): i enjoy my stay at malihom, the highlights is the views from the tub, it’s magnificient - the views is stunning, the privacy is top notch, tasty foods and friendly staff, a good place to relax with your family and friends the food could do a little bit of improvement, maybe a little bit of asian taste cuisine for dinner

- Misha (10/5): A great place for a short stay to enjoy peace an quiet and great views. - We loved the location, the pool, the greenery all around and the views. It was very peaceful and a great place to relax for a while. Getting to and from the place is a bit challenging / expensive. As the place is quite isolated there wouldn't be much to do if staying for a longer period of time.
- Taufiq (10/5): Exceptional - All of it. Nothing.
- Claudia (9/5): Superb -
- Sharon (8/5): Very good -

- Katja (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mitra (8/5): Very good -
- Adaan (7/5): Good -
- Sasa (7/5): Good - Staff is very polite, nice localition in the forrest, very peacefull place to chill out in the nature. Nice pool avaialble. Access road to the property is very narrow and in poor condition. No choice offered for breakfast, however every day diffrent breakfast was served.
- Shalini (9/5): Chill with nature - All over it was a great day for us. Just so peaceful with family only us. Not we didn’t like it just the road is so scary 🙄 Bees & mosquitoes
- Lee (10/5): Perfect short getaway even for Penangites - Customer service is exceptional. Great place for a short getaway. The enviroment is serene that allow us step away from our busy mind temporary. At here, u can enjoy the peacefullness and beautiful sound of birds chirping n singing.
- Carl (10/5): Tranquil experience in the Penang hills - + peace and quiet … super tranquil
+ superb views from the hilltops
+ great local food prepared for us
+ the most thoughtful staff
+ WiFi is v good
+ the pool … not heated but not required !
We had the whole hilltop to ourselves as we were there early to mid week.
Points to consider: If you’re used to snacking you’ll need to buy these in advance and take them with you as food is limited to breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu is typically what staff can obtain locally.
Staff leave the hilltop resort at around 8-9 pm which for us, meant we had the whole resort to ourselves which was magical but could be eerie for the more feint hearted.
Take plenty of mozzie spray ( I’m a walking Kebab for the average mosquito) and have still come away with a dozen bites!
Make sure you have a confident taxi driver as the road up and switchbacks put our cabbie off and we had to call up for the staff to come down and get us. Everything was amazing !
- Marc (10/5): Great - All was perfect
- Gaik (8/5): Very good - The location was wonderful among the fruit trees and vegetation on a hill. Lovely views of sunrise and sunset.
Staff was very cordial and accommodating.
Food was wholesome, home cooked, healthy and delicious
Swimming pool was excellent in its setting and location Only drawback was the level of comfort and cleanliness in the room and bathroom. Toiletries were sparse and there were limited towels.
The hotel is sparsely staffed. I get it that it is post pandemic. For example no staff after 9,30pm. This is more like chalet stay than hotel but if one is forewarned then expectations can be managed. Overall no major gripe.
- Joanne (8/5): Extraordinary - Good breakfast. A extra ordinarily place. Peaceful, nice hill top, detail an thoughtfull decorations. Even the drive up was scary, but good experience
- Jules (9/5): wonderful stay with great service. some arrangements could be made to bring guest up to the top in case the car can’t ma - the location was amazing and the maintenance is well made
- Jon (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing location .... one of my favourites on the whole planet .... To have to leave it......
- Soeun (10/5): Exceptional - I could feel the great nature of Penang in Malihom. Though the location is quite hard to get but when I finally get to Malihom I was totally satisfied with the whole things of Malihom. Facilities, view, and kind managers, private and peaceful atmosphere, nice food… Everything was far better than I expected. I would definitely like to recommend this place to someone who need to be cured from stressful mind. Malihom is located in Private area so It’s complicated to get there. There are fence which is blocking people who are not allowed to get in but also people who booked the accommodation also need to contact to pass the way. Some more details about the way of approaching Mali home would be helpful to visitor.
