Guest Reviews
- Frank (10/5): - My family and I, myself, wife and daughter. Have just had a relaxing 3 night stay here at Va i Moana.
The Team are the most wonderful ladies, ensuring you had a great stay.
If you are looking to have a stay in a traditional style Samoan way, you will love it as we have.
Thank you to all of the wonderful Team at Va i Moana.
See you all again.
- carrie (4/5): - When I arrived they said we don’t use Expedia anymore. So I didn’t have a reservation. The hotel was empty so they could accommodate me, but it shouldn’t be listed on Expedia anymore. The place is cute , restaurant convenient, breakfast good, dinner poor.
- jacob (10/5): - Staff are very friendly and want to help
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Resort was situated in a beautiful area overlooking the beach, it was picturesque. However very far from main town so be prepared for a long drive. Fridge was not in working condition and french door frame was not conneted to main building properly which caused geckos to enter the room. Overall i really loved it here beds were comfortable and the view was breathtaking.
- Anastasia (8/5): - Amazing place with kind staff that would do anything with a smile.
- Anna Natalie (8/5): Serenity and clear blue waters - Amazing place with idyllic views and very clear waters for a wonderful swim. Highly recommend staying in the Sunset Fales only. They have AC for comfort at night and a deck overlooking the water for complete serenity.
The hotel stay includes breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was average with just a piece of toast and dinner likewise. From taking to other guests it would appear the food is a hit or miss and the previous night the food was 5 star and the night we stayed below average. Having said that the people working there are so lovely and when we asked if we could buy food they agreed to open up the lunch menu so that we could go to bed satisfied.
I highly recommend a night or two here and we look forward to going back in the future.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - On arrival the staff were very hospitable and nice ! We loved our beachfront fales, has lovely charm but wouldnt be everyone's cup of tea, very basic accomodation and facilities very tired!!! meals included in price but very bland in the end of 5 day stay!!
- Helen (10/5): - Great place, friendly and extremely helpful staff. Breakfast and tea were included in the price - while not outstanding it was really good for what we paid. Activities are offered daily - things like a demo on how you make coconut milk from scratch, walk to the local village etc. You will need some small money to give donations for some of these things. Thursday nights are Fia Fia nights (pardon the spelling this may not be right!!) anyway, traditional food is cooked and served, the staff put on a show that is amazing - if you're going trying to be a this place on a Thursday.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Rustic charm and good food - We had a lovely time here at Vaimoana and the food was the best we had in Savai'i. Hearty and home-cooked style meals. The cocktails were also cheap and delicious.
The sea is great for swimming at high tide and there is a range of activities on offer by the hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful staff, beautiful location. Loved being able to experience the local culture. Great breakfasts.Didn't enjoy set menu so much- need some choices. Very relaxing. Our bathroom not very clean. Entrance to hotel very rough- needs some attention. First impressions very important. Overall, a great experience, though.
- Marjan (10/5): Needs lots of improvment and updates - First stay we had in standard room which is really to small for two people. Also the shower was leaking so the floor in bathroom was wet all the time.
Second stay on our way back was in superior room. It was really spaceous, with huge balcony, separate living area and separate bedroom. I liked it a lot. But the shower was leaking again and floors were wet.
I think the problem with the building is, there is no maintanance. I think they just leave everything as it is without updates.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good place to stay - The service was really friendly and the food was delicious. Definitely recommend the Va-I-Moana Seaside resort.
- Tina (8/5): Beautiful place & wonderful people - We loved that this area is not so touristy and the location is beautiful. Our beach fale with the deck over the water was just how we wanted it. And the staff makes you feel like a friend, like you belong there.
We had a great, relaxing week.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A real gem of a place to stay - very clean and comfortable rooms. Great beach and very relaxing surroundings. Thoroughly recommend it!
- Charity (10/5): Highly recommend this place! - Location is amazing, beautiful beach, can kayak to other island, large area for kids to play. Also close to surrounding tourist sites like canopy walk and falealupo beach. Our family air conditioned room spacious with comfy beds. Clean bathrooms. Food (breakfast and dinner) included in cost was delicious! Staff very welcoming and helpful. Our aircon/fridge had issues which were eventually fixed later. Highly recommend this place!!
- Marilyn (8/5): Authentic Samoa - Va -i- Moana is a charming accomodation facility with lovely tropical gardens and a white sand beach . The accomodation is simple but comfortable and clean .Meals -dinner and breakfast are included in the price -there are no other restaurants within walking distance . It is located on the edge of a Samoan village where people continue to live a semi traditional lifestyle.. There is plenty to do -swimming ,Kayaking ,exploring the local area -but this is also an ideal place for just sitting and reading a book . A great band often plays during the evening meal . Staff are friendly and helpful. A number of the other guests expressed their regret that they were not staying longer while we were there . It is a place which leaves you feeling that you have had a real experience of Samoa .This wa sour second visit and we may well go back.
- Norman (8/5): Imagine - Sunset in front of your waterside fale! - We were greeted with "welcome to your home away from home" and the team certainly went out of their way to be friendly. As it is a bit off the beaten track, the breakfast and evening meal were provided. One evening included a Fiafia cultural night put on by the staff.
The accommodation was basic -eg just cold water, but it was acceptable as we were hot most of the time except when in the air-conditioned rooms.
Some of the group had success fishing off the jetty, enjoyed the free kayaks and tried out the snorkelling. This area of Samoa -ie Savaii Island NW corner, is relatively unchanged. The Va-I-moana resort is one of the better options in that area.
- Susan (10/5): A charming Samoan fale with ensuite facilities. - We wanted to stay in a traditional Samoan fale but with some facilities. This fitted the bill exactly - and we were right on the beach.
The staff were very friendly and always smiling. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We had an umu (traditional Samoan meal) and Samoan entertainment by the staff after the meal. There was a great atmosphere at the resort, especially as it was the time of year for the palolo (an annual event fishing for blue worms (a local delicacy) on the reef).
The hotel is located on the edge of a village, about 2 hours from the ferry from Upolu. You really need a car if you want to see any more of Savaii. Some guests had arrived by taxi. Samoan buses make good photos, but would not be ideal for hotel guests.
- Kim (10/5): Value for money - When we arrived we received a free upgrade. Amazing resort like facilities. There is a volleyball court, kayaks ( can kayak to another island just out from the resort, raft you can swim out to, jetty to jump off. You can also hire bikes or fishing rods. They have visits to the local village to experience village life or you can go to the local kindergarten if you have anything you would like to donate. They offer coconut displays and lots of other activities. Dinner was always amazing and very romantic if you are a couple as you have your own table settings unlike most fales were it is a backpacker style and you all sit at one table together. Would highly recommend.
- Kenneth (10/5): Friendly, welcoming and relaxing! - All staff make a real effort to know you by name and greet you warmly each time they see you. Several cultural activities are offered, differing each day led by Nuu who is passionate about sharing his culture. All the staff performed dance over two nights during our stay humble and
passionate, a honest sharing of culture. Our beach front sunset tale was simple but adequate and sure there are a few 'rough' edges that need a bit of maintenance across the complex but the lodge oozes a genuine welcoming warmth, a desire to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Michelle goes out of her way to make sure if this! Oh and the meals at night were superb. Thank you everyone at Vai Moana for making everyone's stay with you special.
- Peter (8/5): Lovely overwater fale - Great locally owned and run property with a excellent range of room options
