- LL_Raw (10/5): Charming estate with personalised attention - Wonderful stay with wonderful experience within serene natural surrounding and charming setting.
Particularly the attentive par excellence service from all staff ensuring my preferences were met. Special appreciation to Chef Sandi and Chef Yunike have curated bespoke menu for my dietary requirement for each day during my stay.
- Curiosity23899721138 (10/5): Superb - An extraordinary venue filled with beauty, ambience and old world charm. Fabulous staff members and lots of activities for my teenage children. Food is superb and the breakfasts are to die for.
The manager Greg Williams and his team have the expertise to ensure we had a perfect stay. Love, love, love. We will be back!
- Nicholas (10/5): Surpassed all expectations- we will be back - Everything is great about this hotel - location, service, food & the transfer service from the ferry Incredible Olympic size swimming pool - food was really good - also each member of the service team were so attentive & lovely
- kiisu1 (2/5): Restaurant - We tried to book a table at the Tasanee grill for my husbands 50th birthday online. But had no answer from the hotel 24 hours. Since we were staying at the hotel next door, we just tried to get into the restaurant for dinner, but the security refused to let us in, even though the restaurant looked completely empty and we had wanted to make a reservation online. He claimed that the restaurant was fully booked. So we just left to the next restaurant.
- M2theWag (10/5): Hitting all the right notes - A really lovely, intimate hotel - only wish we could have stayed longer! Customer service was exemplary from the seamless check in, to the offer of a complimentary late check out on departure. Staff and the estate manager couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. The pool area was fantastic and once the tide came in, the sea was also lovely for a swim. Food was great, and the quality and variety of the breakfast (buffet and à la carte) was impressive. It was a very easy transit to and from Singapore, and would be a perfect choice if you’re looking for a relaxing and luxurious break in Bintan.
- markcC7033XT (10/5): Idyllic escape - We had a lovely two nights escape at the Sanchaya, and absolutely loved the estate and the warm service.
We stayed at the Lawan Thai villa. Even though it's the entry level accommodation in the Sanchaya, it's already very luxurious and offers a beautiful view of the lagoon - which is something different from the suites in Great House if you're planning to spend a lot of time at the beach and pool. It's spacious, the bed's a dream, and the bathroom has all the amenities you'll need.
Each room comes with a beach bag, beach slippers, and bathroom slippers. The bathroom slippers are lovely. One minor critique is that the beach slippers do not seem so durable. It might just be me, but mine broke after using it for just a day.
The facilities are wonderful, from a well equipped gym, to paddle ball courts, and a yoga pavilion. The pool is large and has a spectacular view. The Sanchaya artisans provide a superb pool basket consisting of water (with lemon!), sun screen, after sun lotion, and face mist. The Sanchaya Spa was excellent, and we recommend the Sanchaya Special if you're willing to splurge.
The food is delectable, and special thanks to Executive Chef Sandi who prepared a beautiful two course Indonesian dinner for us - a fish soup and the best garang asem ayam we've had.The breakfast selection is amazing, with a wide choice of á la carte options. We highly recommend the Asian options such as the Mie Goreng and Thai seafood frittata.
Our highest compliments go to the staff, or the Artisans of Sanchaya. They set very high standards for service, and their warmth and attentiveness is amazing. Thank you to Greg for the warm welcome and send off, and to Fadil for so generously providing a tour of the estate.
We'll certainly be back!

- 829annabellee (10/5): 11/10 - There are absolutely no notes. This weekend I got to visit the Sanchaya with my mom and we had the most special stay. The entire estate, suite, and staff were amazing and they went above and beyond. Greg, Ricky, Devi, Lina, Ron, Siti & everyone else treated us like we were family. We're already planning a trip back, which can't come soon enough.

Wunderbares Frühstück, tolle Küche am Abend, immer sehr individuell und mit Herz zubereitet. Es gibt nichts zu bemängeln
- MICHAEL (10/5): The stay was perfect for my family - All was good All was good
- marr (10/5): Spectacular is an understatement - Spectacular” is an understatement when talking about The Sanchaya.
From the moment you arrive, it feels like stepping into a perfectly curated world: colonial heritage style, lush former-jungle surroundings, a stunning (and huge) pool, beautiful suites, an excellent restaurant and bar, a library, and a management welcome that even includes a few words in your own language. Simply a perfect experience.
We wanted to spend the last three days of our Singapore trip somewhere relaxing near the beach, and The Sanchaya on Bintan Island, Indonesia was recommended to us. It’s just a one hour ferry ride from Singapore. For the return trip we chose Emerald Class (similar to premium class). Check-in in Singapore was quick and smooth.
After arriving at the Bintan ferry terminal, Sanchaya staff take over and suddenly all your worries disappear. They bring you to their private lounge, offer tea or coffee, arrange the visa on arrival, and handle your luggage. While you relax, they also complete your resort check in at the terminal. Once everything is ready, you’re driven to the resort (only about 10 minutes).
You’re welcomed by management already fully checked in. You can take a short tour, or go straight to your suite/villa. We went directly to our suite because our daughter didn’t feel well after the ferry ride.
Tip: if you’re prone to seasickness, take a pill before the ferry even if the sea doesn’t look rough.
We chose a suite because villas have stricter occupancy rules (typically only two people). The suite was enormous: separate living room and bedroom, a huge bathroom with both bathtub and shower, and a large terrace overlooking the pool and beach. The maxi bar is replenished daily and was free, and the suite also had an espresso machine.
Breakfast is served in the restaurant and is mostly à la carte, with a smaller buffet selection. The choice is excellent. My advice: skip the Western classics and go for the Asian options more flavor and more memorable.
Between 5–6 PM there was a sunset hour with complimentary drinks (I’m not sure if this is included in all rates), and it was a lovely touch. Local in house gin is what I went for, 10/10.
The resort itself is breathtaking, art everywhere, unique colonial design, and an atmosphere that feels both grand and intimate. But as always, what truly makes the difference is the people. The staff are beyond attentive, honestly the best I’ve encountered anywhere in the world. Anything you need is handled immediately, and with warmth. We also appreciated the early check-in and late check-out.
The only downside was that we visited during the so-called low season with monsoon winds, so the beach wasn’t really usable. That said, it didn’t take away from the overall experience.
You simply have to go and see it. We will definitely be back.
- Kristyna (10/5): Absolutely exceptional service! This has been our third time at The Sanchaya, and we love coming back. Everything is jus - Everything! N/A
- irenehZ3220WR (10/5): An Unforgettable Stay - Our stay at The Sanchaya was exceptional. We are grateful to Greg and the entire team of Artisans for their genuine care and outstanding attention to detail.
The pristine beach, large pool, spa and elegant suite made it effortless to relax, while the yoga pavilion, padel court, bicycles, cricket lawn and library offered plenty to do. Breakfast was outstanding, and the food and drinks throughout our stay were consistently delicious. Time truly flew by, whatever mood we were in.
From arrival at the ferry dock to our farewell, we felt completely looked after. Hospitality at its very best — highly recommended.
Gudrun & Irene
- nickyelliott09 (10/5): Super stylish and spacious resort (just a short ferry ride from Singapore!) - This weekend at The Sanchaya exceeded all our expectations. We felt like rockstars from the get-go as we relaxed in their designated lounge on arrival at the port while the resort staff obtained our visas.
The Sanchaya is set amongst beautifully landscaped grounds that feature an olympic sized infinity pool with views out to the sea and a white sand beach doted with coconut palms.
Our villa was Balinese in style, spacious, private and immaculate. There is an old school colonial charm to the resort mixed with fun and quirky modern touches.
Special mention and thanks to manager Greg and his team of "Artisans" ...Pipit & Siti from front of house, Elma who gave us such a friendly welcome each morning at breakfast, head chef Budi - the food was amazing - and Ron, Rey & Bimo in the bar. Nothing was too much trouble and the staffs' smiles and laughter made our stay even more memorable.
We will definitely return!!
- Fred (8/5): Food was good and the entire team was excellent making the stay memorable and time flew. Definitely an ideal escapade fr - Exclusive, ideal for peace and tranquillity. Not conducive for folks with mobility issues as there are too many steps to climb and no escalators or elevators.
At night some steps may cause unfamiliar guests to fall as some ledges have steep drop offs .
The exclusive use of glassware may be a danger for kids and older guests .
- Laksmi Pratiwi (9/5): Tranquil - The beach , the tranquility of the hotel, food , staff
- Alexandre (9/5): - Great service, beautiful rooms, incredible estate.. Everything you looking for to enjoy few days holidays Amenities could be better
- Howard (10/5): -
- Barbara (8/5): Sehr angenehm, sehr freundliches Personal, sehr gutes Essen, schönes Schwimmbad - Sehr kundenorientiertes Management / sehr freundliches und herzliches Personal
Sehr gutes Restaurant
- Shane (10/5): - Fantastic location. This is a great place to relax, enjoy awesome food, wine and service hospitality. Definitely will return…..

- chihh2019 (10/5): A stay that feels like being invited by your ultra-wealthy uncle or aunt to their estate :-) - My wife and I have been staying in Singapore this past year, and wanted to take a 2-night break (M-W) in Bintan. I'm a Titanium-elite member with Bonvoy, but as I was browsing hotels, the Sanchaya caught my eye.
It was rated very highly. Obviously expensive, but it had the classic colonial look I was looking for. I booked the Junior Suite on the Amex website, which actually uses Expedia for the booking. The prices on Amex and Expedia were the exact same.
A couple days before my stay, I was looking at Sanchaya's own website, which shows the blueprints of the different room layouts. Found out that the Junior Suite was actually just one bedroom/sofa area + the bathroom, and so a bit restrictive, while the Sanchaya Suite had a separate sitting room and thus a much bigger overall size. My wife needed to get a bit of work done during this stay, using the phone, so I wanted the separate space. I emailed the staff that I was considering the upgrade and might upgrade during check-in. They said ok.
We took the ferry from Singapore to the Bintan Ferry Terminal, where the check-in process starts. When you arrive, there is some ferry terminal staff holding up signs that direct you to the Sanchaya line. That's where they begin to process your visa, collect your passports, give you a buzzer, and process you and your baggage through security. When you exit the security check, on your left you'll see the Sanchaya lounge. The staff will ask for your buzzer and will manage collection of your passports for you. This is where they'll offer you water/coffee/tea while you wait. We waited maybe 15 minutes for the entire immigration process to complete. The Sanchaya's valet then took our bags onto the van, and we were off to the Sanchaya. It is a group shuttle managed by the Sanchaya but on this ride it was just my wife and I. A bit hard to believe that on the full ferry ride over, my wife and I were the only Sanchaya guests checking in!
The van ride took about 15 minutes. When we got to the Sanchaya, the GM Greg and a concierge were there to greet us. Another staff came up to us as we stepped in, to offer a welcome drink (a kind of shot). At that time, we were offered a 15-minute tour of the Sanchaya by Pipit. A great tour. Unless you are exhausted, this introductory tour is a must, to help you get acclimated. Pipit was great.
The Sanchaya Suite we got was lovely (we got room #3 on the second floor, I saw it sometimes denoted as #203). Upon entering, there's a small living room fit for 3-4 people to hang out a bit, and then a "long" hallway down to the bedroom, with a bathroom in the middle of the hallway. Outside the bedroom there is a sizable wraparound outdoor balcony with a large couch, coffee table, and then an additional dining table for 4. The balcony, as is, would be large enough to host a 7-person party, all seated, with no problems whatsoever. (I only say this to give a sense of the space; certainly, the hotel will come knocking if you try to have such a huge party!)
There is what seems like some wear and tear here and there in the room. But it's not serious, and supposedly adds to the charm of the room.
The room includes a complimentary mini-bar, which includes a few types of chips, soft drinks, juices, Bintang beer, coffee, tea, and water. All that is replenished daily. There's also a fairly large safe. Two pairs of room slippers, two pairs of flip flops, and a beach bag are also complimentary.
The facilities are remarkable. Very relaxing. There's a salon/library, a bar/games room, a meeting/videowatching room, and a gym, and bicycles, all open-access. There's also a bookable wine-cheese tasting (room), and bookable spa treatments. The beach area is very private and quite immaculate. (The one thing that all prospective guests should be aware of is that this is, from top to bottom, a place with quite mature decor. There's no Kids' Club here. The youngest kid that we saw here at the resort was ~8 years old. The average age of everybody else was around 40 years old, haha.)
The pool is very big. Olympic-length, comfortably holding 3-4 lanes. There's no significant shade over the pool itself but there are nice sunbeds and shades over those. Throughout our 46-hour stay here in mid-October, we saw not a single mosquito. Not one. Not during the day, not at night. The hotel mentions that you should look out for sandflies while outdoors; however, perhaps because we didn't go out at night, we actually never saw even one during our stay!
Our first day upon check-in, we ordered room service twice. We got the laksa and the wagyu burger for a late lunch. And then for supper we had one order of the spring rolls (3 medium sized ones).
The following morning, breakfast was lovely. There's a buffet spread of breads, pastries/donuts, yogurt muesli, and laksa. And then free unlimited choice of food on their extensive a la carte menu. If you take breakfast early around 7am on a weekday, chances are high you'll have the entire dining room to yourselves. There is a bit of variation in the breakfast buffet spread, every day.
Overall, there are only 30 rooms total at the Sanchaya, around 20+ buildings in total. For that reason, I would not call this a hotel but rather an estate. There is a secured gate in order to enter the entire compound, and the staff at the secured gate has guest names and pictures printed out on paper (!) by the first morning after check-in, if not earlier. To walk the entire grounds of the Sanchaya's compound, including the beach and all the facilities, takes up to ~30 minutes. This is unmatched if you are looking for quiet sanctuary in Bintan. It just doesn't make sense to try to compare this with the hotels in Bintan. Even the other accommodation compounds in Bintan (i.e. Banyan Tree) seem to be a bit more 'campy', without the same kind of refinement. You're never in line for anything here. Actually, we saw a total of 8-10 guests on our entire check-in day, mostly around the pool; and then until 10am on our two mornings, an average total of 2 guests (both during breakfast). If you are looking for understated elegance (think Ritz Carlton Reserve), ideal for introverts, the Sanchaya is for you.
From what I observed, the average age of guests at this Sanchaya tends to be quite old. I think the typical guests are those in their mid-to-late 40's with teenage kids, or 60+ nearing or after retirement. 30's guests with young kids who still want some elegance may find Banyan Tree more their style.
On our check-in day, we booked snorkeling via the Sanchaya staff, for the following day. Snorkeling wasn't very good; only small fish. Not a knock on Sanchaya, just be aware that Sanchaya's particular dive center's snorkeling excursion may require tempered expectations.
After snorkeling, we had a late lunch at the poolside restaurant. Across the 46 hours, we ate exclusively at the hotel, either at the two restaurants (Tasanee and The Dining Room) or via room service. The food ranges from average to excellent. My best experiences were the Mie Goreng at Tasanee, and the large avocado-spiked salad for breakfast in The Dining Room.
The staff are very friendly and very well-trained. Pipit, Deff, Yohan, Difki, Elma, Madon... I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of names. Everybody was great. Reassuring smiles everywhere.
Pro tip #1: If you need a room that accommodates 2, and you need space, and you can afford it, get the Sanchaya Suite and don't think twice about it. Shop around, but (as of Oct 2025) it appears you'll be able to get a nice F&B/Spa credit with the Sanchaya Suite if you book directly on their own website. Aside from that credit, just about all the other perks listed on the Sanchaya Suite bonus deal appear to be available to all guests regardless of booking.
Pro tip #2: In case you are staying in a Sanchaya Suite with a "publicly accessible" set of balcony doors, these may be unlocked when you check in. If you are uncomfortable with that, you can let the staff know and they will lock those for you. We weren't really worried about theft, but it's probably good practice to always lock your bedroom's balcony doors anyways.
Pro tip #3: The room service menu is a bit limited. If you ask, you can order food that is on the restaurant menus that is not on the room service menus; if it's not late night, it's generally no problem. Your bill when you check out will then indicate it as the restaurant's food even though it was room service.
Pro tip #4: If you get a strange-looking device as your TV remote, click the button at the bottom with the 'red dot' in order to turn the TV on and off. :-)
VERDICT: In general, we were very happy with our stay. Very relaxing overall. The staff are great. In my opinion, they were genuinely interested and charmed to serve the guests. If you are looking for some privacy from your companion, for whatever reason, then the Sanchaya Suite is definitely the way to go.
- roslyns389 (10/5): Memories are made of this...... - The Sanchaya is one of the most beautiful and relaxing holiday destinations that we have ever experienced. The resort is pristine, the grounds are amazing, the pool and the beach are beautiful. All of this is only surpassed by the friendly, efficient and amazingly gorgeous team that meet your every need. The food is next level and the chef chats to you about your preferences and then makes sure that you enjoy every experience. Five nights in a beautiful suite - truly a holiday to remember. And only 50 mins on the ferry from Singapore - so easy to access. From the moment you get off the ferry and are greeted by one of the Sanchaya team, to the time they deliver you back at the end of your stay - every moment is organised and stress-free. We will definitely be back. Rosy and John Sullivan
- HISAO (10/5): - It was one of amazing stays to relax, enjoy and re-charge, esp all the great hospitalities from GM, managers, chefs to all the staffs as well as all the great landscape and facilities. We want to stay again!!
- eddiew946 (10/5): "Luxury kept in a timeless capsule" . - I want to thank Greg and his team for the seamless customer experience for the stay. Thank you Budi for the great food your kitchen churn out.. The estates Yoga by the beach is another must try .
- jgN9287AE (10/5): A masterclass in hospitality - Exquisite retreat after a busy holiday in India and Singapore. There are so many wonderful things I could say, but what especially stood out to me was:
1. Just based on their staggering of guests, I felt like I had the hotel almost entirely to myself.
2. Incredible food.
3. Excellent service. They sort of keep an eye on you (in a very considerate but unobtrusive way) and make recommendations to enhance your day such as foods you might like based on what you have been ordering, fun activities, they will escort you to another table if they notice the sun is too bright, bring you sunscreen and picnic baskets if you sit by the pool, all without any prompting. I could go on and on.
4. The rooms smell like lemongrass and are very comfortable. I was sleeping 10 hrs/ night which is very unlike me!
- Amy (9/5): A lovely hotel - The beach and view is really lovely. The staff are so friendly. Given the price I had extremely high expectations and I think overall it’s maybe not good value especially with the cost of food and drink when you are there.
But it is a gorgeous hotel and in the right circumstances I would stay again.
I think they should use WhatsApp for communicating with guests for quicker answers to questions.
The umbrellas around the pool should be mobile so you can get shade for more of the day.
- Neil (10/5): It was like staying at a friends mansion. Very restful - excellent - It is a mix of colonial style with a great house overlooking beautiful gardens and beach. The villas are a total contrast with a traditional Indonesian feel overlooking a lagoon with natural wildlife. This gave a relaxing close to nature feel.
The staff were very friendly and attentive and all addressed us by our Christian names which was a nice touch.
Chef was great and we enjoyed all of the meals we had.
Nawa on the front desk was very professional and helpful.
Lina on the front desk is a lovely person who made us very welcome and made us feel very much at home.
I have mobility issues, but these did not pose a problem I was very well looked after by the staff and golf buggy service, in particular Hadi who drove us around the island sites also who is just about the nicest person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Nothing to complain about everything suited us very well.
- Stoli72 (10/5): Fabulous! - Our stay at Sanchaya was wonderful from the moment we got off the ferry and were welcomed by the lounge staff to the moment we (sadly) said goodbye to them 12 days later. There are too many staff to single out all those who made our stay special - everybody was so friendly and helpful, and always willing to do extra to make our stay enjoyable. The complimentary activities around the estate were excellent, and the spa was very relaxing. We also did some tours away from Sanchaya which were great fun. The food was of an exceptional standard and there was a wide range of options. The locally inspired cocktails were very good too.
We were completely relaxed within a few hours of arriving and remained so throughout our stay. The actual hotel is sensitively built with plenty of green space. We stayed in a lagoon villa and enjoyed watching the birds and other local wildlife who visited. Greg clearly has a wonderful team and we cannot recommend Sanchaya highly enough. To all at Sanchaya - thank you for making our stay so fabulous.
- Adina123 (10/5): A hotel for those with high standards - This hotel is truly outstanding in every way. The staff (Deff, Nabila, Okzi) were extremely kind and friendly, the hotel’s design is exceptional, the villas are stunning, and the infinity pool is just perfect. The food was delicious, made with high-quality ingredients, and the chef, Budi, was absolutely fantastic. A hotel we will definitely recommend with confidence – congratulations to the whole team!
- Vadim (10/5): A week in paradise! - Magnificent breakfast. Spectacular service. Great villas. Took archery classes -- very interesting!
- X3090TOnicolasc (10/5): The Sanchaya – Bintan: A Haven of Serenity - An unforgettable seaside escape on this peaceful island, lulled by the sound of the wind in the palm trees and the softness of the white sand. A time for rest, a moment of pure beauty and harmony.
The view and the tranquility invite contemplation — a rare and precious luxury.
Exquisite service, marked by rare delicacy, combines warmth and discretion. Every smile carries a sense of care. By the pool, the baskets with chilled water, fresh lemons, and sunscreen are thoughtful and most welcome.
Every meal is a journey, with Indonesian, Thai, and international flavors that are an absolute delight. The wine list is particularly appealing, with a fine selection from Oceania.
An ideal place for a 4- or 5-night stay.
To the entire Sanchaya team, a heartfelt thank you for this unexpected discovery, so close to Singapore — and to Hadi, for the wonderful introduction to the island and its cultural treasures.

- laumene (10/5): Simply Unbeatable — A Stay We’ll Never Forget - The Sanchaya delivers an experience so refined and heartfelt, it sets a new standard.
From the moment we checked in for the ferry at Tanah Merah, everything was flawless — and more than that, it was warm, thoughtful, and deeply personal. We were "greeted" with ginger candies to soothe travel sickness (which, funnily enough, came in handy later on the winding roads of Bromo!). Upon arrival at Bintan, the legendary welcome — often mentioned in reviews — was every bit as gracious as promised, both at the ferry terminal and at the estate.
Our suite was cool and welcoming from the start. The separate duvets I had requested were perfectly in place, along with a yoga mat and several large bottles of sparkling water. Each day brought more thoughtful touches: a poolside basket with cold water and sunscreen, quality sweet and savory snacks, fluffy bathrobes that were actually soft and long enough, Aesop amenities,...
We normally skip breakfast, but here, we found ourselves genuinely looking forward to it each morning. Every dish was a delight. Special mention must go to Maria, whose care and attention made the experience truly exceptional. After just one breakfast, she remembered our exact preferences — oat milk served warm with coffee — and always seemed to know just what would make us happiest.
The property itself is breathtaking — impeccably maintained, spacious, and endlessly photogenic. We stayed three nights during the week, and the atmosphere was calm, elegant, almost cocooned in its serenity. We were also fortunate to be upgraded to a Sanchaya suite, with a large terrace where we sat and watched the tropical rain — a beautiful, cinematic moment. We ended our stay with a meal at the Thai restaurant on-site, which was easily one of the best Thai meals we've ever had. The flavors were fresh and balanced, the herbs vibrant, the seasoning just right — a perfect finale.
To everyone at the Sanchaya: thank you. You gave my daughter and me the highlight of our month-long journey through the region. We left with full hearts — and a deep wish that we had stayed longer.
- patricia (10/5): Parfait - Hotel magnifique
Très bon service
- jessiebV9026ML (10/5): Most memorable Anniversary staycation - We had a wonderful experience at The Sanchaya with Greg and his Artisans team. Fantastic hospitality that shines through every aspect of the service, food and stay! We had a private gazebo dinner arranged by my husband to celebrate our 20th anniversary and we have a private team of Chef, Sommelier and service staff. The night was beyond perfect! Simply engrained in my memory, food was cooked to perfection:)
We tried the cooking class, yoga, paddle boat pickleball and the team were great in their roles. Spa was superb too! It is a relaxing luxury haven and we truly enjoyed our stay. We will be back!!
- Katarzyna (9/5): Absolutely perfect stay - Sanchaya is a tropical paradise, offering a chance to relax in quiet surroundings with beautiful views. Our villa was well equipped, beautifully decorated, and bed was super comfortable. Staff’s attention is top notch, everyone is very attentive and friendly- they made our stay a real pleasure. They even cleaned our room during the day when we were out by the pool, even though we stayed for one night only - so we were always coming back to a perfect villa.
Food in both restaurants was delicious and portions were really good - we had a chance to taste local Indonesian cuisine- and chef was so nice too!
Pool is amazing too, and I loved the fact that there was no background music, as we could just relax and listen to the wind and palm trees rustling around us.
All in all we had a perfect stay and I wish our work was not so busy so that we could spend more time in Sanchaya :) The only small complaint I have is that there was sometimes a bit of a foul smell coming from the pipes in the toilet cubicle which is not great, given the price tag. Also age starts to show a bit in few places around the pool - I was fine with it, but some people may notice. Aside from that, everything was perfect:)

- Road46679608517 (10/5): The place to be for relaxation, peace.... and AWESOME food. - My wife and I had decided to stay at Sanchaya for our June vacation.... Prior to our arrival, the staff were already very pro-active and had answered all our queries pertaining to the room choices.
Upon arrival, we were blown away by the serenity and the picturesque view of the hotel. We were felt so welcome especially when we were greeted by the GM, Greg. The front desk staff showed us around the facilities before going to our room.
We stayed in the super huge Sanchaya Suite that is located right above the Dining Room... You'd think that it will be noisy, but the quietness of the room is amazing.
Breakfast food choice is probably one of the best I'd seen. With a huge ala carte buffet concept, we can order as much food from the menu as we want... and yes we did just that.... we'd so much that for the entire duration of 4 days/3 nights, we skipped lunch.
For dinner, there is a choice of Indonesia, Thai and Western cuisine. It need to be said that food is NOT inexpensive, but the quality of food served is awesome, freshness wise and taste wise.
Alternatively, a guest can choose to take a 10 minute walk along the beach to Lagoi Bay where there are a couple of local restaurants and a grocery store.
Facilities wise, the pool is always inviting, there is also a library and a bar to chill for those who want to stay out of the sun.
On the issue of the staff, everyone we meet is a fine example of superb service. From Chef Budi, to the restaurant staff such as Maria, Dewi, and Joanne, everyone is attentive and saw to our needs.
Given the chance, we'd return again.

- 10pilots (10/5): It's everything they said it would be - We booked based on the excellent trip advisor reviews and we were so pleased we did. We spent ten days at the Sanchaya, both of us with work to accomplish, away from home. There's no surpassing the facilities! Wifi at the resort, working in the air-conditioned bar and lounge rooms, swimming in the 50m infinity pool, beautiful meals, extremely happy and friendly staff, rooms serviced regularly, and those pillows that everyone keeps talking about... where can we get some?
I recommend the lobster, the wine talk, whatever is going.
Thanks to all for hosting us so beautifully.
- R3609AEjoanng (10/5): The best stay ever at The Sanchaya - This was our second visit to The Sanchaya and this time we came back with friends. This trip had us going to 9 countries in 8 weeks. We placed our visit to The Sanchaya as close to the middle of the trip as we could. It was a much needed rest. The staff continued to delight. The welcome is always warm! Our friends wondered why we were worried. As they asked “what’s not to like”. This time we did the island tour and we loved it. Our favorite was the coffee plantation with the stingless bees who pollinate the flowers from the plants And they make the most delicious tasting honey. We visited the Sea Gypsy village and some other sights as well. It was just nice to see the island. The food at the Sanchaya did not disappoint. And our accommodations were the best! We hope to return in 2026!
- Susan (9/5): Superb -
- Izaac (10/5): - Great hospitality with nice personalized touch
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional -

- Amber (10/5): Unparalleled service- amazing food, quiet luxury. Outstanding. - Amazing food and facilities but the staff was the star of the show. They take care of every detail. Exceptional! Nothing. It was the best experience.
- HappyHolidays223 (10/5): Sanchaya is the best resort in Indonesia - The resort is spectacular in every way and perfect for romantic get aways. I've travelled a lot and never felt more welcome and content. Lavish bar, wine lists, food and sunsets. The pool is out of this world and the evening walks at sunset a special treat. Sanchaya is the best resort in Indonesia and only an hour from Singapore.
- Andrew (10/5): - A great hotel located in a beautiful spot on a tranquil beach. The staff were amazing and the food excellent. Exceptional facilities with a sensational pool, paddle courts and paddle boards.
- justlimin2 (10/5): Delightful Hotel - Right from booking, communication was first class. It’s all the little extras that make this hotel special. From checking in at ferry terminal in Singapore, where they had left a little pack of ginger sweets for the crossing, to arrival where we waited in a lovely lounge sipping tea while they dealt with immigration and collected our luggage for us. The whole process taking 15 minutes!
The arrival at the hotel was down a long drive , that distinctly gave “ White Lotus’ vibes, check in was seamless, the manager was there to meet us and we were given a tour of the hotel and grounds which were immaculately maintained and stunning.
Our room a junior suite was nice, although a little dark and smaller than expected and lacked sufficient storage for a 7 night stay . Bedding was good quality , air con was not great as I like a room to be cooler when sleeping. Bathroom was very large , floor tiles could do with a refurb as appeared old and stained in places. Loads of nice toiletries and amenities. Balcony was comfortable and large offering a great view over the beach and pool. Ceiling fans would have been a great edition !
The pool itself is stunning , beautifully clean and perfect for a long swim. Never an issue getting loungers around the pool or on the beach. A nice touch was the the little basket of water, sunscreen and insect repellent that the guys delivered to each lounger. There are parasols which each set of loungers , but only one lounger received any shade which was a bit tricky when it was exceedingly hot .
The beach immediately in front of the hotel and in front of the hotels each side was immaculate, however what was disappointing was if you walked just a few hundred metres down the beach it was absolutely littered in broken glass and huge amounts of plastic bags and bottles , it was really upsetting to see the lack of care for the environment literally metres from the hotel. The sea was clear and so warm, however we were put off swimming in it after seeing the broken glass and rubbish which washed in at each tide . The hotels along this stretch really need to push for this to be cleaned as it is the sole reason we would not return to this hotel.
Sanchaya is doing its part to be eco, with no plastic water bottles or straws etc, but the immediate vicinity outside of its boundaries reflect badly .
Food in both restaurants were good quality and beautifully presented but not outstanding by any means and very seafood oriented, it was expensive for Asia . I was difficult to get chicken breast as almost all the chicken dishes were thigh which `I am not a fan of . The wine in particular was very expensive . Breakfast was good .
What makes this hotel outstanding is the staff, every single one was polite , courteous. Friendly and hard working. Nothing was ever too much trouble, they are literally the nicest team ever ! Their level of service with a smile was off the scale , and so lovely to experience. They do everything they can to make your stay amazing !
We has a super relaxing stay , we would have enjoyed a little more atmosphere in the evenings , we often had the whole restaurant or bar to ourselves which was a little weird , everyone seemed to go to bed by 9pm . Overall it was a lovely break .
Weekends seemed the busiest with families with young children coming for the weekend which rather than give the hotel atmosphere impeded on the relaxation of other guests , my pet peeve is nappies in the pool 🤮. Personally we feel this would be better suited to an adults only hotel.
- Zong (10/5): Thank you all at The Sanchaya! - Impeccable personalised service from Greg and his entire team. It's the little things like water and towels delivered in little picnic baskets to us on the beach, bring greeted with a smile every hour of the day anywhere in the estate, pulling out a chair for my wife.
- Gerosha (10/5): A truly luxurious experience! - Beautiful space, excellent facilities and great food and cocktails. Feels like paradise when you’re there. Staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a comfortable stay. I left a necklace behind at the resort and Madon (the hotel manager) went to great lengths to have it returned to me. We had an amazing stay and will definitely be back.
- H355STmarcv (10/5): This was not our last visit. - Where to start and how to select.. location, building, rooms, friendliness of staff, quality of food and drinks, general laid back ánd stylish atmosphere created...in one word: excellent. The perfect place for truly relaxing holidays.
- Josh (9/5): Superb -
- darkvoice (10/5): Top notch - To make a long story short......a hotel could not be better. The Sanchaya is clearly in my top 5 ever. It is a jewel 1 hour from Singapore. The stuff everywhere is high end and beautiful and friendly. The interior of the rooms is perfect and I did not miss a single product. The bed is amazing and the room is clean and bright. Breakfast on top level and amazing and tasty a carte menu. Quality of spa also...top notch.
Congratulations to the hotel and also to the management for leading your team on an excellent path.
Thank you for the amazing time and we will see each other again.
- Jill (9/5): Superb -
- Kma (10/5): Exceeded our expectation in the big things and even in the small details - The service is impeccable, the food was great, the personalized stationeries was cute, and the privacy having not too many people in one area at once. The complimentary items were also top notch like Janice Wong chocolates and Aesop toiletries.
- Mi (10/5): Perfect! - Everything! The staff took care of us from start to end and was the most perfect holiday one could ask for!
- 780keithz (10/5): Can’t wait to return!! - This was our 2nd visit to The Sanchaya and it won’t be our last! Greg and his Artisans wowed us again and surpassed the high expectations set by our first visit.
My wife requested a special ‘bunny cake’ for Easter and Chef Budi and his team impressed us with creativity and deliciousness beyond what they serve up at every meal.
The personal touches and attention to detail make this one of our favorite boutique hotels and an experience we’ll be looking forward to repeating.
- Jp (10/5): Exceptional -

- Mark (10/5): Beyond Superb - The Sanchaya exceeded all our expectations. It was absolutely spectacular from its location to its beautiful buildings and grounds. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable and the food was beyond superb. We stayed at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore before coming here and I would say that The Sanchay far surpassed Raffles, which is knowns as one of the top hotels in the world. I can't recommend this hotel enough.
- Alison (10/5): Beautiful estate with great service - The Sanchaya outdid themselves again. We celebrated our wedding anniversary there and were treated like family. The upgrade to a suite was a lovely surprise, complete with a warm welcome message. The food was delicious , and the staff went above and beyond to cater to our every need. The spa experience was a highlight, leaving us feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. As we departed, we couldn't help but check our calendar to when we would have the chance to return.
- Sonal (10/5): Exceptional -

- rosyauk (10/5): Thank you for the fab time - We had the most amazing time at the sanchaya! The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the mattress and pillow’s are just the right firmness, amenities in the room are excellent.

- 791belindak (10/5): Excellent hotel in Bintan - Excellent rooms, really comfortable with great facilities.
The food, albeit slightly limited in choice was very good.
Throughout our stay the service was excellent.
As the picture shows, a great main swimming pool and beach is nice as well.
We were sad to leave.

- Antoon (10/5): Great stay - High service level. Clean environment. Beautiful room. Stunning view at the South China Sea. Service at the ferry terminal lounge/check-in.
You need to be aware that the resort is small and personal. Downside could be that with a longer stay you may get bored as the facilities are limited.
- bonnie_datta (10/5): Asian Hospitality at it's best! - I celebrated my birthday weekend, and I couldn't be more pleased with this high-end resort! I loved the colonial architecture and the tasteful decor everywhere. However, above all, the staff and their attitude blew us away -- I particularly want to name Dian (for all things F&B) and the chef (just delicious food)! I had planned a beach barbecue, which given the monsoons, was a going to be iffy. But the way Dian and his crew used a break in the weather to put up the beautiful tent on the beach and set everything up was just amazing. I loved the little touches that the staff placed in my suite (stayed in the Sanchaya Suite). Look forward to the next trip -- this is Asian hospitality at its highest!
- Rie (7/5): Good -
- Rie (7/5): Good -
- Wing (10/5): Paradise - Amazing fresh food! Could have more watersports
- p_morley (10/5): Book now you will not be disappointed - The Sanchaya is a very elegant boutique resort that well and truely lives up to its promises.
Upon arrival you immediately feel at home with the vibe being much more like your wealthy friends large private beach front estate than a hotel. This is more so reinforced by the staff who go out of their way to remember and address each guest by name and they have been clearly very well trained to anticipate a guests needs and to have a “yes we can do that” approach. All of this combines into a very personal experience.
The food and beverage offer is up to par with the quality of the accommodation. The extensive multicultural menus makes it feel like you are ordering pretty much anything you feel like at the time and it is consistently delivered with a high quality of preparation and service.
The best part though is sitting on the bar verandah at the end of the day, indulging in cocktails, staring at the ocean with a pleasant breeze blowing and enjoying how good life can be.
- Jean (10/5): Exceptional -
- puaykee (10/5): A wonderful escapade - From the moment I arrived, I felt so welcome. If you need a quiet and serene place to stay, this is the place. It is suitable from solo to family.
Special thanks to Budiaryo Chef. Do try his Beef Tongseng - marvelous.
Transport is easily available. And the resort has a personalized service the moment you disembarked from the ferry.
Highly recommended.
- marjvsv (10/5): A Perfect Bintan Weekend Getaway with Thoughtful Service - The experience at The Sanchaya was very pleasant and relaxing. It's perfect for a weekend getaway. Most of the staff addressed us by name, which made the experience feel more personalized. They were attentive to our needs and provided excellent service. Everyone, including the maintenance team and gardeners, greeted us with a smile, which was a wonderful touch and brightened our mood.
From the warm welcome to the warmest send-off by Greg and his team, every moment felt special. We also had lots of lovely conversations with the staff at the bar, especially Ron and his team. (I can’t name everyone, but truly, everyone was so welcoming, making us feel right at home.) We enjoyed the good food and drinks (specially the BREAKFAST!!!), and we appreciated the package that included breakfast and drinks at the bar, along with the flexible check-in and check-out. It was great value for money.
I also want to highlight Hadi, the sweetest guy who drove us between the ferry terminal and the hotel. On our way back to the ferry after our stay, my husband and I were chatting in our own dialect, and I happened to mention "sunset." I doubt Hadi could understand our language, but when we arrived at the terminal, he suggested we watch the sunset by the bay. I initially declined, saying we were feeling a bit lazy to walk, but a few minutes later, he came into the lounge looking for us. He was so enthusiastic about it that I agreed, and not only did he take us there, but he also drove us to the perfect spot and even took photos for us. It was such a thoughtful and sweet gesture that made our stay even more memorable. (He's the one who gave me an idea of leaving a review here in TripAdvisor.)
I just hoped the pool could be used after 5 PM for some evening activities. It would have been a great addition to an already wonderful experience.
- Navigator09767852259 (10/5): A great escape away from Singapore - I stayed at this amazing estate for 4D3Ns with my 3 boys and wife.
We stayed at the Sanchaya Suite which was spacious, beautifully furnished, and we woke up every morning to the wonderful view of the sea.
If not for the beautiful white sandy beaches and infinity pool, we could have stayed in our room all day.
But the beauty of Sanchaya art the staff. Warm, earnest and attentive. They always have time for my boys, and they grew very attached to Nawa, Fadil, Anjas, Lina, Yohan and many more by the end of our trip.
We are looking forward to our next trip back to Sanchaya
- Cecile (10/5): Charming place in BINTAN and very stylish - The elegance and beauty of design and history of the house No kids area so they play every where and are noisy . The reception desk is too small and we have to wait and so many people in the team cannot help because no place to sit at checkout
- Restine (10/5): Best weekend stay I’ve had in years! - Everything. I had no idea they’ve been around for 10 years and to have a solid 9/10 rating says a lot! Hard to downgrade from that experience. Even when the weather was a bit gloomy if it doesn’t ruin your relaxation, you know the property is delivering exceptionally. Nothing.
