• Luis Enrique (8/5): Renovado - Mi mamá y hermana fueron por dos días, la ubicación es en pleno centro de Tuxtla, muy fácil moverse a todos lados. Los colchones nuevos y muy cómodos, las habitaciones ser notan remodeladas o con muy buen mantenimiento. Por fuera se ve algo sencillo, por dentro está muy bien, recomendado.

There was no coffee in the restaurant. Room with balcony we booked had no balcony so they offered us an upgrade for 400 pesos for a room that I had already paid for. Very noisy hotel with paper thin doors. Seriously disappointing.

• Verified traveler (10/5): Awesome service, friendliest staff, & tours availa - My mother and I stayed at the hotel Esmeralda for a week. It was the best experience I have had in a hotel. The staff was beyond friendly, welcoming, and very hospitable. The hotel offers breakfast, delicious by the way, and they alwo have the tours available. My mother and I plan on visiting again and we are definitely staying there again. Also, the hotel is very close to downtown Tuxtla. We only walked a couple blocks to the Parque la Marimba, we were close to many restaurants, and close to the Mercado where they also serve delicious and inexpensive food as well.

• Kyra (6/5): Le falta mucho - El hotel es cómodo pero la zona es bastante fea. El personal es muy amable y servicial. Lo que si me enfadó mucho, fue que solo dos días de 6 que estuve me pude bañar con agua caliente, los demás con agua fría y un día se fue el agua y nos tocó bañarnos a jicarazos!!!! Eso sí no está nada bien... puedo aguantar cualquier cosa en un hotel, pero el agua caliente es indispensable. PD: el primer día nos salió una cucaracha debajo de la cama, pero es obvio porque afuera está lleno de puestos de mercado. En realidad solo lo recomendaría por el personal, pero prefiero otro hotel.
• Verified traveler (4/5): Céntrico pero justo frente al mercado, mucho ruido - Camas con las patas rotas, flojas. Las puertas cierran mal, el desayuno de mala calidad y frío.
• Juan (6/5): Hotel pasable - Fuimos en pareja juvenil, en la habitación sólo cabe la cama matrimonial se compensa el espacio con la cocina y recibidor, algunos días no hubo agua caliente por las noches, la ubicación es muy céntrica con muchos puestos sobre la banqueta en mi opinion eso nos gusto, plazas principales en la zona en las cuales encontramos tours. En pocas palabras un hotel bueno considerando sus precios económicos, hay muchos más hoteles en la misma zona y no me aparecieron en esta página, incluso más baratos.
• Verified traveler (10/5): exelentes instalaciones solo que no cambian colcha - la verda tiene cosinas refri sala el unico inconveniente es que no cambian las colchas y cubre camas solo ese detallito fundamental cuando lo que se ocupa para descansar es la cama es el activo fundamental, recominedo a su personal atender este punto
• MARIANA LYSBETH (6/5): Regular para 1 o 2 noches máximo - Al llegar y entregarme la habitación correspondiente, lo primero que hice antes de usarla, fue revisar la habitación, chequé el clima (aire acondicionado) y no sirvió, la habitación no estaba limpia, noté mucho polvo en el piso y manchas, como si en mucho tiempo no hubieran barrido y trapeado, en algunas esquinas habían telarañas, la palanca de la taza del baño estaba colgando (osea que para bajar la palanca, tenía su truco), todo estaba desconectado (refrigerador, microondas, televisión y el aparato de tv por cable) sabemos que hay que ahorrar energía, pero al momento de hacer check in y nos entreguen la habitación, deberían dejar todo funcionando (no precisamente encendidos, pero si conectados para que cuando los queramos usar solo tengamos que encenderlos) sé que no nos cuesta nada conectarlos, pero el aparato de tv por cable tenía el enchufe arriba del clóset (incluso el recepcionista tuvo que "treparse" para alcanzarlo), el cable de la tele también estaba arriba, también teníamos que treparnos del clóset para bajarlo, otros enchufes estaban en "mírame y no me toques" ya que estaban flojos y colgando, como el clima no sirvió, me cambiaron la habitación y pasó lo mismo, me la cambiaron de nuevo y lo mismo, según el recepcionista, era la primera vez que pasaba eso y fue hasta el 4° cambio de habitación que el clima funcionó, pero su condición era la misma que las demás habitaciones, sucias, al bajar la palanca se medio iba. En fin, para hospedarse 1 o 2 noches está bien.

• sher (6/5): Beware of free breakfast - We were warmly greeted when we arrived. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We left the hotel shortly after that to check out the Mirimba park but just missed it as it was nine pm. The twelve block walk was totally safe at night. The hotel is old so you can hear everything, but by eleven the people in the hotel were quiet so we slept fine. The only complaint I have was the free breakfast. They had nuked all the food and put out a cold pitcher of coffee and the juice was artificial. So, enjoy this hotel for the price that it is and go get breakfast else where.

• 707SuzyQ (6/5): Decent Budget Hotel - We found the hotel clean and surprisingly quiet given it is in the heart of commerce. The wonderful scent of the flower shops across the street as we enjoyed a good breakfast was very nice. The room felt somewhat confining given there were no windows and the bathroom was definitely too small. Having a fridge available and a coffee maker were appreciated as was the air conditioning. Overall, we would say this hotel was an ok place to stay for one to two nights.
• Gabbo (10/5): Close of Main Street and colorful flower stores - They were very friendly and helpful , they attend every sigle request , the room is clean and very quite . the prize is really good
• Verified traveler (2/5): bad neighborhood - I could not walk into even to take a look, hotel is in a very very bad neighborhood, is in the middle of a public market between butcher and chicken shops, the kind of those ones open wide to the public with the raw chickens hanging on in the street, I could not walk in even
• Oscar (6/5): Don't get fooled by the looks of the hotel. - Hotel has free underground parking, looks nice from the outside and inside but room had a slight fouled water odor. At 6am we got up early to shower only to find out our room had no water. We asked the staff as to what was the problem and they didn't know. They gave us another room but that room had no water either. We left without showering or flushing the toilet because we couldn't wait until they resolved the issue. When we got back, water was restored. The manager or anyone else never followed up on our issue.
• Carlisle (2/5): Poor - I got in about 1 am and the flush in the bathroom wasn't working. So had to go and get the guy to fix it who spent around 10 minutes getting it done. Then there was no hot water and so had to have a cold shower to get my flight very early in the morning. Wasn't at all pleased with the hotel.
• SansKid (6/5): Breath of Fresh Air - It was a hot day in August when we started off at 8am from San Cristobal for the Suminero Canyon and on to Tuxtla. The drive from Suminero was not long but in Tuxtla, we got caught up in bumper to bumper traffic partly because of being first day back to school and partly because there was a peaceful demonstration taking place, causing some road closures and diversions. When we found it, central but difficult only because of the one way streets, Esmeralda was a breath of fresh air. Quiet, light, a large living/kitchen area with fridge, microwave oven and coffee machine. The bedroom was separate, The bathroom had good water pressure and the water temperature was perfect.. A hair drier was also included. There is a small restaurant inside the foyer. When we returned to the suites after 10.00pm on the first night, we ordered a cappuchino which was delivered to our room. I noted in my journal that this was a nice touch. We also had breakfast at the restaurant downstairs the next morning, which was good, if slow service. Although there were many options of things to do in Tuxtla, the stop was mainly a resting place before taking the night bus to Oaxaca. I liked the suites so much that I chose to stay "home" rest up and catch up with my mail. Wifi was strong and Skype was excellent. The kitchen/living space provided allowed us to buy a take away dinner from a nearby Chinese restaurant, a bottle of wine from the local supermarket which we enjoyed at leisure. Esmeralda Suites worked perfectly for us. However, despite the lovely kitchen, basic cutlery and crockery is not provided which would be helpful for a longer stay.
• El-Yuca-Ingles (2/5): Stay away... - Stayed one night in Esmeralda's Hotel in Tuxtla Gutierrez this week, and it was one night too many. This has to be one of the worst designed hotels I have ever stayed in, with rooms opening directly off a central lobby. There is no soundproofing whatsoever, and doors do not close tightly. Therefore every sound from the lobby or elsewhere in the hotel can be heard. Additionally as the rooms have frosted windows to the lobby, and no direct daylight, they are gloomy and depressing. On the night we stayed, a group on a higher floor were having a party, which was clearly audible throughout the hotel. Finally at 2am I had enough, and went to the front desk and threatened to call the police if they did not stop the guests from making the noise immediately. To my surprise, they succeeded in silencing the guests right away, but it had still ruined our night, since we needed to get up at 6am, and were only in the hotel in the first place for a good night's sleep. The bathrooms are tiny, pillows are lumpy, and shower heads clogged (which is a shame as they are monsoon type and would have been great if they were not clogged). On the plus side, the room and bathroom were spotlessly clean, bed was comfortable (except the pillows) and the highspeed wireless internet worked well. The hotel is well located (but so are plenty others in the town). The plus points do not even come close to making up for the rest however, and I would not stay in this hotel again. Although it was relatively cheap I have rated value as poor, since if you cannot get a good night's sleep, I do not think it is good value regardless of how cheap it is!
