Guest Reviews
- David (1/5): no stay - NOTHING no booking because it is not a motel
- Michelle (5/5): Passable -
- Julia (2/5): Terrible experience. I paid in advance and they didn't have a room for me. - I arrived at Ascot Motor Lodge at 4pm. Reception was locked but there was a phone number on the door. I rang, and the woman that answered told me there were no available rooms, even though I had already paid. She texted me the address of another motel to drive to. When I arrived there it was run down, with no sign out the front. I rang her again and she told me which unit number to go to, and that it was open with the key in it.
There was a group of men hanging around my unit (they were guests, and they were fine) and I felt extremely uncomfortable.
There was no milk in the fridge so I couldn't make a coffee.
The whole experience was awful for a solo woman traveller.
- Suzanne (7/5): 2 bedroom unit was spacious, cosy and quiet. Decor needs to be updated but place was clean. - The place was clean and quiet location. We booked 3 units and our 2 bedroom unit had plenty of room, comfy couch. Our kitchen had a new stove. Property Managers were very helpful and attended to our requests. Decor needs to be improved. Kitchen items were basic. We booked 3 rooms and each room had different things missing ie. studio 1 knife, studio and twin room had a microwave each, 2 bdrm unit didnt have a microwave, 3 dinner plates instead of 4...
- David (5/5): Passable - Close to the town facilities Was a bit run down with simple things needing replacement like light bulbs and utencils and cups.
- Robert (2/5): Very poor -
- Antony (6/5): Pleasant - Owner tried to resolve issue re cooker by providing alternative option.
Place was clean. Room was smaller than expected. Cooker did not work. Had to use cooker in another unit, we were not offered to move into another unit!
Check in procedure was not easy as we are foreign travellers with no access to mobile phone and check in had to be done via the phone!
- Mike (5/5): Passable -
- Heather (8/5): Very good - The price
Location
Helpfulness of manager
- Martin (3/5): Poor -
- Olivia (8/5): Definitely room for improvement, but no complaints for the price. We had a great stay - Friendly owners. Great value for money The bed in our room was either old or cheap or both. Not the most comfortable sleep
- Kevin (3/5): Poor -
- Maree (9/5): Superb -
- Christine (2/5): Very disappointing. - Good location. Toilet door wouldn't shut. External door difficult to close. No light bulb and light over bed had been taped up so as not to be used. No extra bedding. No toiletries. Very rundown. No staff on-site, had to ring a cell phone no. for someone to come and show us our room.
- Brian (6/5): Worth the cost, and grateful for meeting our requests of suitable parking and four separate beds! - Location is great, it's a short walk to town, but still very quiet and peaceful.
The service was prompt, professional, and friendly, especially when asking for a couple of things to be attended to, such as the kitchen light. We appreciate the speedy attention, thanks!
Parking is as good as it can be, right outside the door! Can't do better than that!
The place is comfortable for the duration that we had it.
And finding it is so easy, with just one turn from the town centre, and a signboard to guide us. Some things were not working, such as the kitchen light, some smaller lamps, and the toilet flusher button gets stuck, and there were no wine glasses which was a pity as we enjoy a glass of wine with / after dinner. Not serious issues, but would be nice to have those things attended to. We do appreciate the problem with the supply failure of the lamps, I personally have this problem at home as well.
- Pauline (1/5): Won't be back, we don't mind basic but clean and functional are non-negotiable. - No breakfast, location was good. No-one on reception, had to phone to check in. No info in room re wifi, had to txt and phone to get the password. Double bed was so spongy and uncomfortable that I got a sore back and had to sleep in a single bed which was only marginally better. The unit was only superficially clean. There were cobwebs in corners, the floor in the loo behind the door was filthy (I could literally scrape black muck off with a fingernail), surfaces in the kitchen were sticky, the tinfoil under the elements was dirty. We were left only a tiny bit of loo paper for a two day stay, had to buy more ourselves. We bought food to cook for breakfast then couldn't use it because turning the elements on the stove top kept turning themselves off - the fuse wasn't blowing so there is something else wrong with the electrics, this may be a fire hazard.
- RK574 (2/5): Dirty and broken, not a 3 star motel - This is a very run down motel, definitely not a 3 star. The 2 bedroom unit we booked was dirty, there were stains on the bed covers and hair all over the floor. The stove and hobs in the kitchen did not work at all and there was only 1 glass to drink from in the kitchen. If the stove and hobs did work then you wouldn't be able to use them as there was very limited cooking equipment. Half of the lights in the unit either were broken or had missing light bulbs and some of the switches on the wall were broken so a child using the switch could get electrocuted. The windows would either not open or were missing the locks so they would not close. There is no reception staff on arrival so you have to call them and then they are confused on who you are and what motel you are staying in.
The manager said he would provide a full refund, 2 nights refund was received from booking.com but the manager is now ignoring me for the first night refund.
- Amf (2/5): Budget - The staff Room very dirty, dishers not washed and put back on shelf, sheets smelt unwashed and I could go on
- David (8/5): - A very comfortable room and exceptionally helpful staff. I definitely recommend.
- Nadun (5/5): Passable -
- Fatemeh (8/5): Comfortable and clean and value for money - The room was all we needed to stay for a night. It was very clean and confortable. Parking in front of the room was also convenient. In the ad it said there is a barbecue but there was no barbecue on site. We couldn't find the wifi username and password. It wasn't given to us either.
- Smr (2/5): Very poor - To get out of there as early as we could! Worse room we have ever stayed in. The motel looks run down. Everything in the room looks worn out, out dated and desperately in need of a make over.
The large sliding glas windows were dirty as. In the kitchen everything was greasy. In the bathroom, shower and the kitchen the drains were blocked or only drained very, very slowly.
We got a room with a kitchen, but decided to go out for dinner in this place.
- Dee (8/5): Very good -
- Lee (6/5): Pleasant -
- Paula (6/5): Pleasant -
- Christine (7/5): Good -
- Vivienne (6/5): Pleasant - Close to where we were playing Bridge. TV not operating. No obvious manager.
- Steve (3/5): They messed up our booking and found us a disused Motor Hotel which was better than nothing. - Don’t know. We didn’t get to stay there.
- Henry (1/5): Bad - We arrived on site to find office closed , manager upstairs and didn't come down, so I phoned and was told our booking had been cancelled . By who ? Service in my opinion was very poor.
- Kim (1/5): Bad - We didn't end up staying here. There was an altercation as we arrived that didn't make us feel very safe. We moved on and the owner was good enough not to charge us. Therefore rating is based on just that first experience and I cannot talk to anything else.
- Nathan (7/5): Facility as expected for the price, no onsite restaurant available. -
- Stasi (10/5): Exceptional - Due to the death of our mother our accommodation dates needed to be changed, the owner was very understanding and allowed us to change our dates and even upgraded our rooms at no extra cost. The owner was very helpful and lovely. Would definately go back.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - There was no one around to deal with issues
- Kent (8/5): Very good - nice but could do with an update just a bit dated
- Steve (3/5): Unclean, run down and hospitality missing. - The family unit with three bedrooms was well priced. Nobody was at reception - hard to locate them and felt unwelcoming. Cleanliness was not good. Broken window latches made us feel insecure. Asked to do dishes but basics missing like plug, very little detergent. No folder with information about wi fi etc.
- Tracy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dianne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Irene (1/5): Cold dank and abysmal - Nothing, we did not stay in our booked accommodation thankfully at least we ended up with a roof over our heads. The secondary accommodation was cold and partially set up, appliances didn't work and not enough utensils for 2 people.
- Sue (7/5): enjoyable -
- Jackie (3/5): Poor - Linen was clean Prefer not to comment as new owner needs a chance
- Todd (10/5): - Wile the place had everything we wanted the room we choose on wotif wasn’t correct not sure how they can sell a place which is not as described but it will fine all the same
- Doohandawg (2/5): Worst ever - Budget accommodation at worse. Was dirty and dusty. Found old shoes under bed. My partner and I sneezed all night due to dust. Booked for 2 nights and left after 1. Broken down car in yard and was run down. Needs to close and revamp.
- Megan (4/5): - We arrive on stay to be told they dont know anything about our booking. We show our booking details and payments. So assigns us our room which was not ready for us to check in. We get into our room. There are alot of updates that need doing to the rooms. We had 2 to 3 light bulbs that we had to change from room to room. We had 2 forks and 3 knives to share between us for dinner. Once leaving we get asked to pay. This had already been done by our company so we where abit confused to be told that they dont have access to see anything. So they are not sure what we have or dont have once again i showed the invoice. Dont get me wrong it was a bed and a roof over our heads but i am very upset with what we paid for to what we got. It wasnt enjoyable and could not wait to get home. Over all i will not be going back.
- Hazel (8/5): - This was a typical New Zealand motel with full kitchen facilities. Easy access and parking and friendly staff
- Chris (6/5): - The property was priced accordingly, rather dated and a few issues that need attention, otherwise a good stay and would stay again
- Scott (2/5): - Didn’t have a room for me even though my money was taken and I had confirmation
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Unique was the hairdryer in trhe bathroom! Never seen one like it! Big unit with evergthing you need
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly welcome, tidy room and clean. Suited our needs perfectly
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great room for our family of five and space.
- Barry (6/5): - Proprietor was over-protective of her security. The office was always locked. Allowed into the unit at exactly 1400, owner stranded out of town somewhere. No apology. Ran out of toilet paper. Frayed carpet at door. Would not return.
- Stanley (10/5): The true New Zealand - When you are on a budget this is the best choice. The location is quiet and the unit we were in was spacious and well equipped. WiFi was a real bonus when there is nothing on tv to keep the kids busy. There is a good kids playground in the block behind and some friendly resident cats. The units were well insulated and at no point it felt cold in summer. The shower was nice and hot too. Some of the photos are out of date the place is nicer than the photos lead you to believe. You'll enjoy your stay and save money while you are at it.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Very dated. Wasn’t the cleanest either, actually wondered if we had clean sheets as found a few dark hairs & wrinkles on bottom sheet. Floor was not vacuumed. Leanne did discount the room though as there was a hole in shower wall so that was good of her. I guess the price we paid was fair for the condition.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A spacious clean and modernised queen bed basic unit with kitchette. and ensuite. Made our 3 night stay a pleasure. thank you,
- pamelamura00 (6/5): Basic but me your needs - Bed was comfy, internet terrible,, just kept dropping off, 3 bedrooms was good, for 4 single ladies
Quiet no road noise
Good value for money
200 characters is an awful lot, I have said everything that needs saying
- Steve (6/5): - A rather tired establishment - enthusiasm seemed to be very lacking. Several basic missing in kitchen.
- Helen (10/5): Really cheap - Leanne was very accommodating, Hotel.com had double booked us but she went out of her way to make our stay very pleasant. Old motel and needs some attention to the up keep of the premises but we had everything we needed, comfortable beds, nice linen, good shower, nice and quiet location.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Poor quality. - Linen cleanliness was poor. Sheets and towels. Asked to clean dishes and hardly any dishwash liquid. Also couldnt cook "smelly" food and warned with a cleaning charge yet people in next unit had 2 big dogs. Office was hardly ever manned. Were asked to phone mobile if we needed anything
- ShelleyM512 (6/5): Good sized room - We had a 3 bedroom unit which gave us all a bit of space. It has a microwave, fridge and stove, jug, toaster etc which made it easy to sort breakfast out. Located a 10 minute walk from the main street in Westport, so it was quiet which was lovely. Plenty of room for vehicle to park and the unit is very dated and was not serviced daily. Great budget option for us as we used Westport for a base for 4 nights and had day trips from there which worked really well. Laundry on site was useful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - very clean unit, basic but had everything I required, only complaint was very poor shower water pressure
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Very old and tired. No Sky, wifi difficult, clock had stopped, nowhere to put luggage.
- MH549 (6/5): Quiet location - Located in a quiet location handy to services. Clean basic facilities with warm, friendly reception. Great for short stays. Found limited power points. Advertised free wifi however found unable to connect.
- Jeff (6/5): - Room was clean and comfortable, to use wifi you had to go well outsude your room, reception was very rarely open, the laundry for the sie id the place only had 1 washer and dryer.
- Di_H011011 (8/5): Stop on west coast - This is a well equipped motel which is clean and tidy if a little dated. Quiet location near to centre with on site parking.
Check in and out were easy and had no issues. It was value for money if you’re looking for top luxury in a ultra modern look it’s not here but you pay for what you get and we were happy there for the night we spent!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quiet and central location in Westport, Friendly and helpful staff.
- Stephen CN (6/5): - No milk, internet not working
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Felt like home! Was very clean and comfy. Slept like a baby lol Would happily come stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bathroom needs a bit of an upgrade and so does the kitchen faucets.
- SusanFeay (6/5): Budget Motel - This motel is very clean and very comfortable. It had everything we needed but it is in need of modernization. It is close to amenities. The rooms are not cramped however and if you are a cat lover you will thoroughly enjoy the resident cats.
- RhellieKeith (6/5): Great value - Very friendly greeting by the host. Our room was very spacious and clean. Free parking and kitchenette with fridge, microwave and stove. Free unlimited wifi is provided. There is a guest laundry on the premises at a low cost. The motel is located conveniently to the main street. The host kindly allowed us to leave our car at the motel while we hiked The Old Ghost Road. This is an older style motel that is well presented and offers value for money.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room condition outdated, mattress worn out, but otherwise the place was clean, but need some updates and repairs. Would look for another place to stay next time.
- L2379NRrichards (8/5): Westport Wanderlust - After a long and beautiful drive from Franz Joseph we arrived at the Ascot motor lodge in the west coast town of Westport. After travelling to the iconic towns of Queenstown, Wanaka, and Franz Joseph, then Westport was always going to be a little disappointing. But the Ascot motor lodge made it more comfortable. The large room for 4 people was excellent with all the comfort and facilities we had come to expect in NZ
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was central, room was spacious but
Shower soap and body wash dispenser didn’t work, was empty.
Heat pump was noisey but heater did work.
Overall our experience was good. Room was very clean and fresh towels everyday.
Friendly service.
- Cheryl (8/5): Nice and clean - Great friendly service, good location.
- BuddhaBlah (8/5): All Good. - Me, Grandie, his mate, and two dogs stayed a couple of nights. Perfectly good for our needs. Pleasant people; clean, roomy, value accommodation. Internet a bit hit and miss. Overall, a quiet, unpretentious, functional and clean place to stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Property is getting a bit tired but was clean and warm, friendly helpful lady Want a low key comfortable place to stay I would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Even though an older property it had lovely fresh linen, towels, bedding. Was really clean and thoughtfully set out, would definitely stay again. Good layout, solid property
- Anthea (6/5): Ordinary - Very old style, tired motel in the back street. Needs a refurbish badly. Clean enough, and spacious enough.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean and tidy motel - Leanne was very pleasant and accommodating.
Good value for money.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything we needed for a night, and comfortable.
- DanielQuirke (4/5): Below expectations - The room was not clean and needed to be aired. The wifi didn’t work and the staff were not helpful in explaining what was happening. In the end we gave up asking and despite saying someone was working on it we never found out if it had been fixed. Overall very poor.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The room wasn’t clean and needed to be aired. The wifi didn’t work and staff not helpful. Overall facilities very outdated.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Dated property, could do with new paint and some updating.
Slow wi-fi -
- JocelynC885 (8/5): Comfortable quiet accommodation in Westport - We had an overnight stop here on our way to Nelson.
Our 2 bedroom apartment was clean, spacious and comfortable
Check-in smooth and trouble free, staff friendly and helpful
Kitchenette ideal for simple meal preparation
Close enough to the town centre to walk to restaurants, far enough away from the highway not to be bothered by traffic noise
Laundry facilities provided - $4 to wash and dry a load of clothes
Parking outside our apartment
- sala5000 (8/5): Comfortable and basic - Met all my needs. Had a microwave, a good enough bathroom and comfortable bed.
Everything was clean.
What was really terrific was the comfortable couch to kick back and relax on.
Great location an easy walk to the supermarket yet a quiet side street location
- habanachooky (8/5): Great value - A large clean apartment which we felt really at home in. Lovely owners who are very helpful. Close to town but set off the main road so very quite. Handy to everything. Able to cook in the kitchen with everything there.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The rooms were clean and we enjoyed our night there. Lovely spacious room. Would go back again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Easy to find close to town centre comfoortable room
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The room was spacey and the kitchen is good. And this is the only place we found out that has a Holy Bible in the room, I thought that was awesome. We all need Jesus Christ!
- Emma (10/5): Perfect place for families - Spacious and comfortable rooms. We stayed in the 2 bed family unit which was ample room for our family. Older style decor but super clean and functional. This is our 2nd stay at the Ascot and we love it due to the price, comfort and location. A 2-minute walk to the playground at Victoria park and a 5-minute walk to the pool. Will definitely stay again.
- Dianne (10/5): - the bed and pillows were super comfortable, loved the friendly cats
- Umbralady (6/5): Good Plain Accomodation - Plenty of space, clean and extremely quiet, generous parking. Staff very friendly. Would have liked a heater as it was a bit cold. No documentation in room (checkout time, laundry info, local restaurants - none of this was provided)
- Joe (4/5): old motel - outdated and past by use date, - Poorly located 4 blocks from main street. It was cold, the bathroom was ancient 1960's vintage, the bed was a shocker- most uncomfortable.
- TwistedGravity (10/5): Great value for money - Great location off the main road so no loud traffic noise. Nice large comfortable bed and very clean. Yes the decor is dated but that is reflective of the price and did not worry me one bit everything functioned and it was comfy and clean. Very helpful staff as well.
- NewZealandCarver (6/5): Good for a short stay - We had a good 2 nights stay at this facility. Complex is getting quite dated, however rooms are being refurbished. . Unit (#9) clean and tidy and nicely refurbished in the lounge area. Spacious room and bed comfortable.Kitchen , toilet and bathroom are well separated from the main lounge area. Kitchen partially refurbished, however cupboards and drawers desperately need revitalising. Heater was on in the lounge and whilst this (heater) was rather noisy) it was good to have a nicely warm room. Around 5 minutes walk from town centre and very quiet. Neville (on site manager) very attentive and helpful - changed a blown light bulb and insisted that he transport us into town (for a meal) as it was raining slightly and said to ring him and he would pick us up again after our meal. Great service - thanks! Overall good value for money.
- Courtney (10/5): Winter West Coast 2018 Trip - we were the only people staying in the entire motel because it was winter but more were arriving later in the week. Appreciated being on a quiet street.
- Carrie (8/5): A quiet, comfortable, affordable no-frills stay - It is what it is. An older style motel with the basics but having said that it was very clean, the bed was comfortable, the old heater cranked out the heat and the owner couldn't have been more helpful. If you are in Westport and you just need a quiet place to put your weary head, you won't go wrong.
- William (8/5): - This is a budget motel and was appropriate for the rating.Friendly owners. As it was the quiet time of the year, owners upgraded us to a bigger room, which was nice.
- Tania (10/5): - Good, clean unit. Comfy bed. Good water pressure in the shower. Would definitely stay again
- K (8/5): Clean and tidy, friendly staff. - We stayed for 2 nights. The staff are friendly. The room was a bit dated and needs some more power points, but it was very clean. It is in a quiet area and close to town. Wd enjoyed our stay.
- Ian (10/5): Spacious rooms - Large well equipped room and close to supermarkets. Friendly staff who helped with local information. Parking right in front of room so very convenient.
