Guest Reviews
- Ian (10/5): - This guest house has prominent position in the centre of Pogerola village, up in the hills 1000ft above Amalfi, with amazing views over the hills to Ravello and out to the sea. The village is small but well served with restaurants, bars. Walking to and from Amalfi is not for the faint-hearted, but there is an excellent bus service down to Amalfi, and the return shuttle runs till 11.30pm. Antonio is a friendly and excellent host, and nothing was too much trouble for him. Our room was clean, bright, spacious and a bit quirky - in a good way! Would highly recommend if you want to visit Amalfi and avoid the over-priced and eternally busy centre there.
- JoAnn R (10/5): - We loved Pogerola-a quiet town up above Amalfi with a few nice restaurants and a beautiful terrace with bar and gelaterie!
There is a bus stop nearby only costs 1.50 euro to get up and down the hill from Amalfi.
We walked down the path with steps to the town …beautiful walk took about 30 mins
It was a delightful stay !!
- NAMIR (10/5): - Thanks
- Lani (10/5): - Our room was on the main floor, above the restaurant, we could smell the food in the room and it was noisy until closing. We could hear them cleaning the kitchen. We could hear them bringing their trash containers when it was trash collection day, very noisy. The room was clean and spacious. Bed was nice and firm. Breakfast was very good and well organized. Lots of variety of fruits and croissants were fresh and delicious. Nice outdoor dining with view of the mountains. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
Neighborhood was quiet and safe. Bus was very convenient and very close to Villa.
We would love to come back but would like to have a room on the second floor, where it’s more quiet.
- Maggie (10/5): - Amazing and so safe! 10/10
- Linda (10/5): - Wonderful place to stay. Good dining options, close to transportation, excellent breakfast, lovely staff, and proximal to some great hiking. Recommend.
- Courtney (10/5): - Absolutely loved staying here. The views are stunning and it is out of the main area which makes it so much quieter. The restaurant underneath is exceptional!
- Robert Andrew (10/5): - Lovely little property. Had a family feel. Staff are excellent and everywhere is so clean. Cakes at breakfast are home made and added to warm freshly delivered croissants, you cannot go wrong.
- Sheena (10/5): - Comfortable and peaceful accommodation away from the hassle and bustle of Amalfi. Situated in a village called Pergerola, accessible by bus from Amalfi; not walking distance. Bus fare was very reasonable - tickets purchased beforehand at the cocktail bar or shop. Good spot to stop for drinks at the local Cocktail Bar which had splendid views of the coast from the village. Very friendly staff who helped with local knowledge like using the buses. Enjoyed breakfast outside on the terrace with the wonderful view.
- Gabriela (10/5): - Great peaceful location! Bus right outside to take you to Amalfi! Andrea very helpful with everything! Clean and spacious room!
- Jacob (8/5): Great service for such a tiny spot. - Clean room. AC worked but only while in the room. Overall positive experience. Hotel staff really do everything they can to help!
Didnt realize Pogerola was a 15 min trip from Amalfi when I booked. Dont underestimate the cliff!
- Yuri (10/5): - We had a great stay, the Villa is beautiful with friendly staff!
- Caleb (10/5): - Great small villa away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. It’s less than 30 min to walk or bus to town. Beautiful views from our room and the veranda where we had breakfast everyday. The staff was always nice and helpful. Would stay here again.
- Mitsuko (10/5): Amazing view - There are breathtaking views from the terrace. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and very clean. The breakfast was excellent.
The restaurant a staff recommended was delicious and excellent service.
- Jordon (10/5): - Our stay at the Villa Maria was awesome! If you are looking for a nice quiet place just outside of Almalfi, this is the perfect stay.
The hotel hosts are very nice and the rooms were clean.
There is lots of good restaurants within walking distance and everyone in the town is very helpful and friendly.
- Krisztian (10/5): - Large rooms and easy access to everything
- Paula (10/5): - Lovely decor. Across the street is a tea room that was open late where we had a couple of drinks. Our day didn't quite go as planned and the concierge called to assure that we were coming. We were and we arrived just in time to see him go. He was super helpful and we were so grateful for the communication.
- Merimae (10/5): - Amazing view from our bedroom and great breakfast.
- jesse (10/5): - Villa Maria is the gem hotel of Amalfi. Stunning views, privacy, less people and peaceful atmosphere. Breakfast was perfect daily and Andrea (owner) gave us the best advice on restaurants, hiking, private beaches where your not on top of each other like the one down near the center and more. This is by far the best boutique hotel we’ve ever stayed at.
- Carmen (10/5): - we have a good time in this hotel, service was excelent
delicious breakfast i hope go back again
- arianna fernandez (10/5): - It is a wonderful place, if you have never been you would not imagine it.
- Gerardo (10/5): - Amazing place located at the last bus stop to Pogerola, super clean, friendly staff, good place to rest and forget about any rush, time slows down. Choose breakfast, it's plentiful.... Opportunity for improvement is to provide instructions to use the shower, 😂
- Merton (10/5): - Beautiful location above Amalfi. We greatly enjoyed our two night stay.
- Beverly (10/5): - The staff were very nice ( Andrea and Antonio. They were very helpful and informative. I will surely recommend this property to my family and friends. I love the place being close to the bus station and to the town proper. I love the breakfast being served and the friendliness of the people in the neighborhood. Looking forward to stay there once again in the near future. Thank you, Villa Maria and more power!❤️
- Victoria (10/5): - As convenient as can be, clean, friendly, good value
- Lori (10/5): - This property is in an absolutely beautiful location. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Our room was great! Very clean, comfortable, and the air conditioning was wonderful! We would definitely stay here again!
- Omar (10/5): - This was a wonderful stay. Villa Maria is perfect for a wonder relaxing Holiday. The staff was great, they made it feel like home. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The Bus is 100 meters from the Villa so get around the is easy. There’s a beautiful Church right next store, we were delighted to watch the local children sing we are the world. The bar next to Villa is cool too. Great views. I will return!
- Jean (10/5): Lovely, peaceful B&B, with outstanding breakfast. - Lovely B&B with outstanding breakfast, right on piazza in less crowded Amalfi-Pergola. Really enjoyed the view from the hotel terrace and cafe across the street. The stairs down to Amalfi only take 15 minutes. Very peaceful, clean B&B
- Stephen (10/5): Great place - We had planned to stay in the town of Amalfi, but they were booked up. This one got great reviews so we gave it a try. It was just what others have said. Clean, comfortable and quite. Breakfast was great. There was a excellent restaurant down the street about 100 m. There was also a pub, Gerry’s place which was fun. Karaoke was going on with some people from US and Europe. Great time!
- John (10/5): - Awesome place
- Israel (10/5): Amazing - Reallly nice place amazing service
- Caroline (10/5): - Lovely comfortable rooms with breathtaking views. Friendly, helpful staff. Delicious breakfast.
- Marie (8/5): In the hills above Amalfi - The accommodations are very nice, clean and spacious. WiFi is excellent. The Villa is located in the hills above Amalfi. The city bus is very crowded, costs 1.30 Euros and runs every hour until 10pm. It was convenient enough, but it's not good for anyone who wants to enjoy any night life in Amalfi.
- Thomas (10/5): Excellent Hotel!! - The villa:
Excellently located right in the village centre with local amenties around. Rooms were very clean, spacey and modern. Staff were super friendly and extremely helpful with our queries. They were full of recommendations for good food or beaches that weren't full of tourists. Breakfast is served 8-10am everyday and there was a good selection as well as fresh coffee.
The village of Pogerola:
Pogerola sits peacefully above Amalfi town with nice sea views and a less touristy feel. It is a 20 minute bus ride down to Amalfi (€1.30, every hour down and back up) and the last one back up is midnight in summer. There is also a path down from Pogerola to Amalfi which takes around 40min. There are several quality restaurants within a stones throw, as well as a pub and a bar on the doorstep. We found these options to be better and far cheaper than down in amalfi.
Transport:
Amalfi itself is a transport hub and you can get everywhere on the coast very easily by bus or boat. We rented a car but gave up with it after a few days since the bus links were so good. Also the drivers are crazy, the roads are narrow and windy and parking was expensive (normally around €3/hour), so we recommend sticking to the public buses.
Overall we had a really lovely stay at Villa Maria and would encourage anyone to stay there!
- Jane (10/5): In Love - Beautiful room - the best A real gen
- Vernon (10/5): luxury hotel with sea and Mountain View - Our favorite hotel. Everything about Villa Maria was outstanding. Our room was large and bathroom had a jacuzzi tub. Beautiful view and convenient location to bus stop. Staff were very friendly, spoke English and helpful. We definitely will return.
- Jordan (10/5): Great place, amazing views. - Wonderful atmosphere, wonderful staff, area around it (which is one hundred percent out of there control) sometimes has people revving their motorbike engines until 2-3 in the morning, though this was infrequent it happened more than once. But everything about this place makes it more than superb and would recommend to friends and family’s alike. For the young lovers out there, just don’t try and hike to the hotel from the coast, take the bus!
- Nicole (10/5): Clean Spacious rooms with beautiful vies - Friendly staff, clean spacious rooms, with amazing views of the mountains and lemon tree farms. Located in Pergola a 20 min bus ride from Amalfi. The hotel is located next to the SITA bus stop that runs every hour on the 30's. It is convenient and easy to get to Amalfi. The immediate location offers 2-3 restaurants a lively bar and a shop for bus tickets, gelato, snacks, and coffee. Highly reccommend especially if you like quiet.
- Tim (10/5): A great place to stay - The other reviews say it all - this place is excellent. A big thank you to Andrea, who helped organise transfers, etc. and to Alessandro the gastronomic expert.
- Farahana (10/5): A great place to stay with stunning views. - I definitely recommend Villa Maria. The staff was kind, respectful and very helpful even before arrival. The villa is in a beautiful location in the mountains with gorgeous views. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and the view from the room was stunning. There is a great restaurant that is open pretty late close to the villa.
- Ayza (10/5): - Everything was super amazing. The Villa is actually just above the Amalfi coast in pogerola and you reach it by taking a20 minute bus from Amalfi. The Villa itself was so clean and comfortable. The front desk people were so nice, I really enjoyed our view from our room and enjoyed our stay. We will definitely stay there again
- Moni (8/5): - Cute hotel with all the essential amenities. The breakfast is small but but enjoyable. ( espresso, yogurt, toast, cheese, bacon, juice, fruit)We had a vehicle so we did pay for the private parking . Amalfi was about a 17 minute drive from the hotel. The only downside is that there is Church across the street and the bell/clock rings every 15 minutes . It was loud and hard to sleep at night .
- Alicia (10/5): - Room and b&b looked exactly like the pictures. Friendly staff. We liked staying above the hustle and bustle of Amalfi and found that it was either an easy busy ride or a walk (about 30 minutes... wear your sneakers!) down to the shopping area/ restaurants. The local restaurants we ate at near the b&b were good and there is a small convenient store a few steps away where you can buy water, etc for very cheap. Overall, loved it!
- Joyce (8/5): - The view was amazing and the two men who run the B&B were very helpful.
- Avery (10/5): Beautiful villa overlooking the amalfi coast - The roads are crazy but the villa was perfect and the town on top of the hill was a great stop during our trip along the amalfi coast.
- Lawrence (10/5): Above it all in Pogerola - We were so relieved to be far above the tourist crowds in Almalfi where the loudest sound was church bells! Very easy to use the hourly local bus to get to Almalfi and back. Excellent breakfasts. Rooms are beautifully finished and furnished. Three good restaurants within steps of the hotel’s front door.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great place but far from town - The hotel was great and very comfortable. It’s in a very nice little town but it’s a 20-30 minute bus ride to downtown Amalfi. It had extremely great views. There is a little shop across the street that has everything and is very friendly. This was the most comfortable hotel we stayed at in Italy.
- Gary (10/5): Quiet village high above the bustle of Amalfi - Though it is a 20 minute bus ride down to Amalfi (40 min walk down the path) it is great being high above the crowds and noise of the town. Breakfast’s are great on a beautiful patio with a view, the rooms are very clean and comfortable and Alessandro is very helpful and cheerful. We were totally satisfied with our stay.
- Teco (10/5): Beatufil and cozy B&B - Receid by a very nice people. A litle a far from downtown but if you have a car is perfect
- Camille (10/5): Beautiful room with great views - We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Maria, which is located in the quiet town of Pogerola above the mountains. We took a SITA bus from the Amalfi port up to the hotel, which conveniently runs every half hour to an hour. The Junior Suite in which we stayed was very spacious with a jetted tub in the bathroom. We enjoyed soaking in the tub while streaming a movie with their extremely fast WiFi. The breakfast was delicious the following morning, and we ate it on the terrace overlooking the mountains.
- Y (8/5): - Nice, family run hotel in a charming little village high in the hills above Amalfi offering an authentic Italian experience. There is a little bus that runs between the village and Amalfi. The young men who staff the reception are extremely helpful in arranging transfers to/from the hotel when required and in offering advice in how to get around. The hotel and village have lovely views and there are 3 or 4 restaurants very close by, convenient for dinner after a long day of sight-seeing. We especially liked the restaurant La Capannina and ended up having dinner there on 3 nights during our stay.
- Keeli (10/5): Excellent Value, Excellent B&B - Fab little B&B - can’t recommend it highly enough. Rooms are lovely and well decorated, everywhere is pristine clean and the family who own the place are lovely. Breakfast was great - hams, cheese, eggs, cereals and yogurt, great start to the day.
Couple of great little restaurants VERY cheap literally next door, and an hourly bus down into Amalfi which has great transport links for everywhere on the coast and Capri. Book now - you won’t be disappointed! Very reasonable for a great little hotel if you can’t afford some of the prices in this area A+++
- Antje (10/5): - Fantastic place to stop after a day of walking. We were so happy we walked on from Amalfi- felt to busy and touristy. This place was a gem, clean rooms, big bathrooms, great view from the Terasse and yummy breakfast.
- Michael (10/5): Jewel of Amafi - Amazing clean accomodation with stunning views and customer service was excellent. Great location away from the busyness of downtown Amalfi with friendly locals, and great food, wine and all amenities nearby. Bring hiking shoes or runners Ignacio younplan on walking down to the ocean!
- John (10/5): Amalfi stay - A great place to stay. Would stay there again if get back to Amalfi. Easy access to bus for transportation to the city or Positano/Sorento. Staff was very nice. Several places to eat close by. We really enjoyed this place and would recommend it.
- Tiziana (10/5): Superb B and B, be mindful of the location - Cleaness excellent, services very good, totally recommendable. Be aware of the real location and what is advertised. It Is not in Amalfi but in a small town called Pogerola at 6 km (with plenty of curves), a bus must be taken to rich it. I think is correct to say that Pogerola is a Frazione of Amalfi.
- Verified traveler (10/5): nice hotel in a small town uphill from amalfi - tranquil, good warm people and good food n views. warm n friendly host.
a nice quiet walking trail down to Amalfi town centre from pogerola town where villa Maria is located for 45-60 minutes.
church bell ringing often and nearby pub resto can be a bit noisy sometimes. other times, awesome experience.
breakfast was good.
- William (10/5): Room wth a view - This place was pristine. Nice little place with sea views, good location with beautiful views.
- Jaime (10/5): A B&B located in the hills above Amalfi. Italy - Villa Maria is a family run business that is delivering a wonderful B&B experience. It is located high above Amalfi, and has an outdoor patio where breakfast can be enjoyed each morning. The breakfast itself includes yogurt, fresh fruit, croissants, cheese, salami, cereal, juice, coffee, hard boiled eggs, and more. Something for everyone's tastes.
Our room was located on the second floor, and it was very spacious, clean, and had a good size bathroom. The B&B was constructed five years ago, and is kept in tip top condition. You would think it is a newer building.
Parking options are limited at Villa Maria. You can park for free at a nearby lot (for about 20 cars) if space is available, or you can pay 15 Euros per day to park at a private parking lot. We were fortunate to find a spot in the free lot, which is easier to do after 5pm. During the day, the free lot fills up quickly.
A public bus stop is located about 500 feet from Villa Maria, which we chose to use for our visit to Amalfi, since parking in Amalfi is limited and expensive.......about 4 - 5 Euros per hour. The bus was 2.60 Euros per person for a round trip.
There are 2 - 3 nice restaurants within easy walking distance of Villa Maria, and we enjoyed dinner at two of them.
- Cynthia (10/5): Reasonably priced and clean B&B - Quiet, away from the crowd yet convenient
Breakfast reasonable spread
Clean and well equipped
- Albert (8/5): The stay was most enjoyable, location was superb - Most enjoyable. Location was superb.
- Natasha (10/5): Beautiful home away from home with amazing views - We loved this place! The views are amazing and you can see the ocean and the mountains. The room is very spacious and clean. The staff are fantastic and very helpful. It's located outside of the town of Amalfi however the bus runs every hour and is cheap catch. We loved our stay and would stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stunning view, friendly staff, easy bus access into town. Not a bad a bad word to say!
- Rik&Lee (8/5): Nice hotel away from bustling Amalfi. - Modern, clean and well-located within traditional Pogerola.
Positives:
* Beautiful views
* 10 seconds walk from tea-room/cafe, shops, churches and car parking
* Helpful staff
* Quiet (except for the church bells every 30 minutes)
* Rooms are clean, modern and full of character. Most rooms appear to have balconies.
* Fantastic walks direct from the hotel
* Good value for money
Negatives:
*No pool. As the hotel is so far from the beaches it would make a massive difference to have pool access.
* Church bells! It was a novelty at first but after 5 days of incessant ringing at 30 minute intervals it got tiring (and woke us up)
- Stephen (10/5): Great place! - Fabulous place. Highly recommend it. The staff was helpful and the rooms large and comfortable.
Be aware that it is not in Amalfi per se but in Pogerola. A lovely bus ride away.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was perfect. Breakfast and room are outstanding
- Cesare (10/5): Awesome - Great location, owner's are locals and committed to give the best service ever. Rooms are very clean and all have a great view. Great coffee in the morning.
- Lillian (8/5): Cute and Comfortable - Great little Bed and Breakfast. Very friendly staff and a cute little neighborhood.
- Amanda (6/5): Friendly staff no frills hotel - The hotel was very basic which was f Me since we weren't staying in the room very long. We had to switch rooms after the first night because the bathroom ceiling was filled with mold which made the room smell very musty. They switched us with no problem and were very accommodating. Staff was very accommodating and polite. Breakfast was a nice bonus.
- Jackie & Ernie (10/5): Beautifully renovated villa - Villa Maria is in the mountains high above Amalfi in a small village. There are several good local restaurants and bars. The staff at Villa Maria were very friendly and helpful, especially Alessandro. Our room was large, sunny and spotlessly clean with a huge en suite with a shower. We decided to park our hire car up and travelled everywhere by bus, which ran every hour from a stop only two minutes walk away. We thoroughly recommend this hotel and look forward to going back again.
- leonardo (10/5): Beautifull Place - Surprised with the places. Excellent B and B. Clean and very comfortable.
Only six rooms, would stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Big comfortable well decorated rooms, amazing view - Big comfortable well decorated rooms, amazing views over hills from the room and of the sea from the front of the hotel. It is in a small village
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great view - Worth the hike up, or take the bus. Then enjoy the views.
- Barry (10/5): Nice hotel with damrastic views. - Villa Maria is a supurb place to stay with excellent staff, great breakfasts and stunnings views.
- SEYED VAHID (8/5): brand new nice and clean hotel - It is a brand new villa. Everything was set nice and pretty. No complaint about the hotel room it was perfect. Breakfast was also good. View is to the mountains and you will need your sunglass as sun is too intense during breakfast. Nothing around but 15 minutes bus from Amalfi. Good hotel.
- Paris (8/5): nice small hotel in Pogerola village - The place is nice located in a village outside amalfi. There is a bus every hour that goes to amalfi. Rooms were clean and spacious. Soundproofing is not the best. Little bit expensive but its a busy period and everything is full. Village has few restaurants. Nice mountain view from breakfast veranda. Private parking could be free instead of paying extra.
- Alfredo (8/5): Cozy hotel... - It has everything you need... nice view, restaurants, church...
- Debbie (10/5): Great hotel to explore the Amalfi Coast - Villa Maria was a great discovery. Spent 9 nights there. Quiet peaceful beautiful place to stay. Lovely bars and restaurants very close by with excellent quality of food. Great bus service to Amalfi which has excellent links to other places worth visiting. We did have a car but it was easier to take the bus as parking can be difficult. Would highly recommend Villa Maria.
- Peter (10/5): Fantastic view from a cute village above Amalfi - Great little village that had an authentic feel far above the "touristy" Amalfi. The owner recommended Carcara for dinner and it did not disappoint. Great views, fresh vegetables and seafood.
Will be back again.
- Amy (10/5): Pogerola not Alfalfa but close. - The Villa Maria was awesome. So beautiful. It is not on Alfalfa but a 20 minute €1.20 bus ride from the town of Alfalfa in Pogerola. Take the bus! You can put your bags in the baggage compartment underneath. The cab driver got me for €40.00 oneway. Take the bus from Alfalfa. Very clean and comfortable. A beautiful walk down a path if you enjoy walking. The B&B was perfect. Make sure you eat a Jerry's next door.
